Diamond shuts down if there is no network - any help? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Well, I thought I fixed it with a ROM update but alas...
the problem goes like this, when I'm out of cellular reception area the phone shuts down and the only way to turn it back up is to remove and put back the battery.
I suspect this is some sort of strange power saving setting gone wrong.
Any idea on what can I do about it? Registry settings or something?

Backlight off/WiFi problem

I used to use one of Dutty's early WM6.1 ROMs, but have recently upgraded to Dutty's Diamond V1 ROM. Since upgrading I am unable to get the WiFi to stay enabled in either standby mode or even when just turning off the screen (using Screensaver.exe).
The KaiserTweak/registry hack seems to have no effect. If the WiFi is enabled and I turn the screen off the WiFi LED flashes 3 more times and then stops as the WiFi turns itself off. This never used to be an issue with the previous ROM, is there a registry setting somewhere or is this a ROM/Radio related issue?
After using the Kaisertweak to edit the registry, did you do a power cycle to make it go in effect?

Yes, I have performed numerous soft resets since enabling the WiFi Standby setting.
Wifi issues in ATT TILT
hi!
Even I am having the same issue and it bugs me a lot. I am using ATT TILT with original ATT ROM and I want to stay online on skype using wifi.
The only wat is that inside skype there is an option of "preventing device from entering sleep mode" which I have checked. This way I remain online but my phone's battery consumption increases a lot. I have not tried it on att 3G ( please tell me your experiences with 3g connection, does it go off even in 3g ). I even tried installing psshutxp and device lock, but no help.
I want my phone to go into sleep mode but with its wifi to remain on, so that i can keep on recieving skype calls.
One more thing:
I think in psshutxp the light off is same as pressing the on/off button once ( enters into sleep mode ), as in both of them the wifi goes off.
And the kaiser tweak also doesn;t seem to have any effect too.
I was hoping to get some thing that will only swith off the display of the phone, keeping the phone active, this can also keep me online and save some battery.
att tilt 8925, be Backlight closed, (be wifi closed)
How can I solve this problem

Screen turning on if I loose signal

Hello,
I've tried searching for an answer on this, but no sucess until now.
My Diamond 2 turns on its screen when it looses and get radio signal back. That is a good feature but the annoying thing is if I enter in a lift with the cell phone in my pocket, it will loose signal, turn screen on and the contact with my pocket will give it "crazy" commands that will mess it up or even call someone.
Is there a way (maybe via Registry Editing) to force it to never turn on the screen unless I press the power button? At least, an option to do nothing in case of signal loss?
Thank you.
Robert
I've just done a few experiements and if I lose signal and it returns, nothing happens. However, perhaps it would help you if you get into the habit of locking your phone before you press power. To do this hold the home button down for a second or so. The phone will buzz and it'll be locked.
Thank you. That's what I will do whenever I put the phone in my pocket. It is still not the best solution, even because I use my D2 to receive emails from work so I am forced to type a password to unlock it after sliding to unlock.
I know there is a Registry key to auto lock, but I prefer doing that manually as you said.
Which ROM are you using? In both original HTC English and now TOM's 2.02.1 it always turn screen on when looses and get signal back.
Thanks.
I'm using the original HTC. I've tried it again, I go to a place where I know I'll lose signal, wait until it does, then press power off. I go back into signal and nothing happens on the device. Only when I press power on does it come back on and show that I have signal. If I do it the other way, press off before I go out of signal, then the behaviour is the same (though I have to just wait and assume signal has been lost, since I can't see it!). Is it perhaps that the phone is set to light up when it receives a certain bit of data (such as a push email), which it's more prone to getting when it comes back into signal? Incidentally, it's 'lose', not 'loose'
I get similar behaviour after setting the phone to stream internet radio and then turning it off and putting in my pocket. Sometimes, after signal loss, I get it out and notice it's turned on and random things have happened due to screen contact.
Funny thing is, I've tried locking the phone too, and exactly the same thing happens. what's the point of a phone lock if it doesn't (lock)!
I've not associated it with a particular event except signal loss. But, when it's not lost the signal, I don't take it out of my pocket, so perhaps it's happening other times without me noticing.
Anybody with an idea to completely lock the phone will be my hero.
And, whilst we're on the subject of annoying traits, is there a way to get rid of the wretched WM "cannot connect with current settings" dialogue which appears after a few failed attempts to reconnect to a 3G network? I find this *really* annoying when all it takes is a few more attempts...
Hi
When the signal is lost or regained the phone is triggered to turn on, but in "unattended" mode. The phone will be on and applications will run however unattended mode is just that, and so no user input is accepted and the screen is not turned on, and the owner will have no idea the phone has switched on. After a short period of time the phone will enter sleep again. In fact many times a day the phone will be turning on in unattended mode without you knowing for one reason or another.
The problem with the phone awaking fully is going to be due to an application or feature you are using. The application will start running when the phone enters unattended mode and is for some reason raising the power state to fully on, this is due to bad programming as it isn't suppose to do this unless it has an alert and needs to show the screen and wait for a response, even then it should give the option for this to be disabled.
Incidently a lot battery problems where the battery doesn't seem to last very long can be due to applications keeping the phone running in unattended mode, so while the phone looks off the processor is still on allowing applications to run, this very quickly drains the battery.
You need to find the application causing the problem then get in touch with the author.

Phil
Thanks for that, Phil. Understanding is the first step to sorting a problem out. I wasn't aware there was an "inbetween" state.

My screen randomly switches/flashes on and off....

It's quite obscure... while the screen is switched off, it arbitrarily switches on, but within a split second, it switches off (causing a flashing effect). Anyone else experience this? Any solutions?
My girlfriend's xperia play does the same thing. while the screen is turned off, her phone will turn on as if you were to press the power button, then turn back off after about 5 seconds, and will keep doing that for hours. ive been trying to figure out whats causing it but i have no clue. did you ever figure it out?

simple,
1. diagnose what's ur phone problm...
- flash it to original ROM / stock ROM or any recommended ROM
- if problem still --> h/w problem
2. if u had xperience in disassembling phone, try to disassemble it, and see if something broken. 1st priority, check flex cable since it is usually broken. if nothing wrong --> service centre is least option

"Phone" and "Wi-fi" problem

hello xda
ive been reading these forums for a while checking out tweaks, software and other stuff, good stuff
but last night, when I wanted to check out my email, i turned on the wifi but after a few seconds, the wifi slider would go back to "off", i did a reboot and the problem persisted. meanwhile i noticed the "phone" was off too, so i tried enabling that too, no luck, same thing.
and something else too, after like 3-5mins of using it, the touchscreen crashes and i cant use it anymore, only buttons will work.
today i decided to do a hard reset, but that didnt fix anything. when i go to "communications" panel, everything is "off" except Bluetooth.
-if i turn that off, airplane mode goes on
-if i click phone on, it goes off after like 5 seconds, same with wifi
has anyone else experienced something like this ?
thanks in advance,
xerron

[Q] Stuck on Flight Mode ON - No Wifi, No Bluetooth, No Cellnetwork

I dropped my phone in the water. Got the battery out quickly and opened up the phone from A to Z (except the circuitry under the screen) and got it dry, left it to dry for 48 hours on top.
Now, my phone is back together and it boots, screen works, sound works, OS works.
But the phone is always in Airplane mode when I boot it. If I try to change the Airplane Mode to Off from the menu shown while pressing Power, it says it turned it Off, but it's then greyed out (can't turn it On and says its off). If I go in the Settings in Wireless settings, Flight mode is still on. If I try to turn it Off from there, it says, turning on wireless things.. but stays there.. If i go <-back and go back into Wireless settings, flight mode is still On. If I go in Wifi settings, the wifi is off, if I select it to be on, it starts scanning and eventually says: Unable to scan networks.
So, I'm wondering, what part is busted ? Anyone know ? My connections seem to be OK, I've put it back as it was. I'm basically bummed.
Also, in settings-status my IMEI is unknown and pretty much everything relating to connectivity. USB works though.
Any ideas? tricks ? anything ? other than buying a new phone to replace this one.
Cheers.
