Screen turning on if I loose signal - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I've tried searching for an answer on this, but no sucess until now.
My Diamond 2 turns on its screen when it looses and get radio signal back. That is a good feature but the annoying thing is if I enter in a lift with the cell phone in my pocket, it will loose signal, turn screen on and the contact with my pocket will give it "crazy" commands that will mess it up or even call someone.
Is there a way (maybe via Registry Editing) to force it to never turn on the screen unless I press the power button? At least, an option to do nothing in case of signal loss?
Thank you.
Robert

I've just done a few experiements and if I lose signal and it returns, nothing happens. However, perhaps it would help you if you get into the habit of locking your phone before you press power. To do this hold the home button down for a second or so. The phone will buzz and it'll be locked.

Thank you. That's what I will do whenever I put the phone in my pocket. It is still not the best solution, even because I use my D2 to receive emails from work so I am forced to type a password to unlock it after sliding to unlock.
I know there is a Registry key to auto lock, but I prefer doing that manually as you said.
Which ROM are you using? In both original HTC English and now TOM's 2.02.1 it always turn screen on when looses and get signal back.
Thanks.

I'm using the original HTC. I've tried it again, I go to a place where I know I'll lose signal, wait until it does, then press power off. I go back into signal and nothing happens on the device. Only when I press power on does it come back on and show that I have signal. If I do it the other way, press off before I go out of signal, then the behaviour is the same (though I have to just wait and assume signal has been lost, since I can't see it!). Is it perhaps that the phone is set to light up when it receives a certain bit of data (such as a push email), which it's more prone to getting when it comes back into signal? Incidentally, it's 'lose', not 'loose'

I get similar behaviour after setting the phone to stream internet radio and then turning it off and putting in my pocket. Sometimes, after signal loss, I get it out and notice it's turned on and random things have happened due to screen contact.
Funny thing is, I've tried locking the phone too, and exactly the same thing happens. what's the point of a phone lock if it doesn't (lock)!
I've not associated it with a particular event except signal loss. But, when it's not lost the signal, I don't take it out of my pocket, so perhaps it's happening other times without me noticing.
Anybody with an idea to completely lock the phone will be my hero.
And, whilst we're on the subject of annoying traits, is there a way to get rid of the wretched WM "cannot connect with current settings" dialogue which appears after a few failed attempts to reconnect to a 3G network? I find this *really* annoying when all it takes is a few more attempts...

Hi
When the signal is lost or regained the phone is triggered to turn on, but in "unattended" mode. The phone will be on and applications will run however unattended mode is just that, and so no user input is accepted and the screen is not turned on, and the owner will have no idea the phone has switched on. After a short period of time the phone will enter sleep again. In fact many times a day the phone will be turning on in unattended mode without you knowing for one reason or another.
The problem with the phone awaking fully is going to be due to an application or feature you are using. The application will start running when the phone enters unattended mode and is for some reason raising the power state to fully on, this is due to bad programming as it isn't suppose to do this unless it has an alert and needs to show the screen and wait for a response, even then it should give the option for this to be disabled.
Incidently a lot battery problems where the battery doesn't seem to last very long can be due to applications keeping the phone running in unattended mode, so while the phone looks off the processor is still on allowing applications to run, this very quickly drains the battery.
You need to find the application causing the problem then get in touch with the author.
Regards
Phil

Thanks for that, Phil. Understanding is the first step to sorting a problem out. I wasn't aware there was an "inbetween" state.

TyTN II Problems

There seems to be a problem with the Kaiser. After finishing a phone call on the Kaiser the backlight goes off and stays off and I cannot access the Start menu. I can access all other functions but backlight stays off and one still cant get into the Start menu from anywhere on the screen. I have to press the power off button quickly once and then wait a second, press it again to be able to access the start button or the light to come on. This is definitely a bug in the tytn II and I hope HTC is doing something about this.
I have experienced the same thing.
After the phone call. I did not hang up.
Instead the person at the other end hangs up and I tries to navigate away then the phone appears to lock up.
Could not turn the phone off either. Had to wait until the phone turned itself off. Once restarted everything ok...

I noticed this as well...
pretty crazy.
Hmm I haven't that problem. Danish HTC TyTN II
Do you folks have the password set? I have heard that that can cause this problem. Try to turn off password checking.
Hi @ All, any news about that problem?
I have a solution
I had the same problems and after installing all the ROM's and still have the same problems, I found out that the problem is not in the ROM it is in the 3G network, disable the 3G network and set it to GSM and all the problems will disappear.
This was nothing to do with 3g.
It was a pre-programmed fast sleep setting that was flawed. Download Kaiser Tweak and turn off all the sleep during call options.
Difference in memory in use
I have problem with my TyTN II, I don´t know why, but when I control the state of the memory in use, it seems to be 112 MB in use and 19,4 MB free. But when I control every item (Applicationdata, Confimgr, ProgramFiles etc., even including hidden files) and calculate total then it seems to be only 45 MB in use. Can anyone explain this
thanks

Turn the phone off using software

Is there an application that turns the phone off via software rather than holding the power button down?
Ideally, with a small battery, it would be cool to have the phone auto power off at say 11:00pm time and then come back on at say 06:00am.
There are various apps than can power off the device (amongst other functions) - they are usually a secondary function of what its primary purpose is. One such example is SPB Pocket Plus - it includes various little tools, one of which is PowerOff which can be run from a shortcut, or scheduler etc.
I'm sure you'd have no problem getting the device turned off automatically at 8pm, but back on in the morning will be rather tricky given that the device is off hence unable to tell itself to turn back on!
Perhaps if you elaborate on what your ultimate goal is (i.e. why you want it turning off at night) then there may be another, better, way of achieving it.
Mathew
Thanks Mathew.
I dont take calls at night so its best to turn the phone off. With the battery not lasting that long it would be great.
I know that Sony Ericsson phones can turn on and display a reminder even when they are off. And I used to have a Siemens phone which had an auto-off function whereby I was able to set a time at which it would go off. A minute before the scheduled off time, a dialogue would appear on screen to say that the phone would turn off in 59 seconds. Then it would proceed to countdown the seconds. I had the opportunity to overide the auto power off if required otherwise when the countdown got to 0 seconds the phone would turn off. Cant remember if the siemens had an auto on function!
I think theres two ways of looking at this thread...
phone off - physically like a blackberry can do at a set time each day etc
or phone off as in the actual phone function. I think this is more suited to your needs and I really can;t think it would be that difficult to do for the average programmer.
You are in theory making something to switch "phone" on or off as you would in the communication manager
And then tie this in to an alarm style program

Broken power button

Okay i was out in the rain the other day and my Diamond was in my pocket.
Ever since my power button has stopped working. I guess my phone got wet somehow...
Now i always get the " Power will be turned off and you may lose data if you have not saved them. Do you want to continue?"
It just keeps popping up every minute or so it and wont bloody go away.
My power button wont turn the phone off/on or even lock my phone. So I'm guessing it's dead.
I'm guessing there is a part in the phone I can replace to fix this. Can one of you gurus point me in the right direction on which part I would need to buy?
I'm from the UK..
Thank you in advance.
Little bit of an update. My battery died last night. So I put it on charge when I woke up.
I obviously had to use the power button to turn it on. And for some strange reason it worked!
But It wont allow me to lock my phone when it's turned on. And i also get the same issue with the message popping up as I posted above. Could anyone help
anybody know what part i would need to fix this?

Screen won't timeout

Very odd...
My screen won't timeout anymore, unless I manually press the power button. It doesn't matter whether the phone is plugged in or not, and it isn't dependent on the screen I am on either. The screen just stays on forever.
Is there a way I can see if a certain program is preventing the screen from sleeping? Has anyone encountered this type of thing before?
Thanks!

Did you check the screen time out settings, maybe you got it at 30mins ?
Yeah, it's set to 30 seconds. It must be some program that tells my phone not to sleep?
Even more odd...
It fixed itself!
Rebooting the phone for the last couple days had no effect on the timeout issue I was having, but doing it this afternoon somehow resolved the issue.
Add this to the list of idiosyncrasies that my SGS has.
I'm having this annoying problem with my SGS (JPY) at the moment. Sometimes it'll go to sleep and turn off the screen by itself, but 9 times out of 10 I have to manually turn it off with the power button.
Has anyone else experienced this with JPY? I'm reluctant to wipe and start again, but it's really starting to piss me off now...
might be an old topic, but i am experiencing this right now
i just installed gingerreal guerilla version yesterday and it works fine
however when i connected my phone to usb for charging this morning, it wont turn off the screen unless i do it manually by pressing the power button
weird thing is as far as i remember there's a setting on USB debug mode to turn off the screen when connected to usb. i think it might be related to the rom or is it always like that on gingerbread? i assume that is the root cause,
although i couldn't post the issue directly on the gingerreal thread due to minimum post count.

Help! Moto X (XT1049) Constantly Freezing and Restarting Itself (RW)

I purchased a used Republic Wireless Moto X (1st Gen) and in the beginning I was happy with the phone, but then I got to school with it...
The first thing I noticed was the issue the phone was having with the college's network. The network requires a one time login every 10 hours to authenticate that you are a student. I would login and the phone would work normally on the school's network until it turned the screen off or I hit the power button once to sleep the phone. Once you did this and then tried to use the phone again it was like there was no network even though it was connected and already authenticated. I am forced to disconnect from the school's network and reconnect every time I want to use WiFi if the screen was turned off...
Well that problem was annoying as hell, but it got even worse as time went on (2 weeks). Now I can barely even use the phone at all on campus or sometimes even at my own house. I will be trying to do something very simple like open txt messaging and it will show my messages and then load the names to match the cell numbers (slowly). However when I click on a message it will stay stuck at a white text body with the person's name at the top and a txt enter box at the bottom that I can't do anything with (keyboard won't pop up).
If I hit back normally it will freeze the phone and it will restart, this is my primary problem. When trying to do basic things like txt messaging the phone freezes and restarts itself. Once it restarts on its own, nothing has fixed. I try to open txt messaging again and I get the EXACT same problem and the phone will restart again. The only semi-solution I have found is once the phone restarts itself, I shut it down through the normal hold power button briefly and click power off. Then when it comes back up, SOMETIMES it will act normal-ish.
The odd thing is a lot of the time once I get home on my network these restarts and freezes are much less frequent vs. on the school's network. This could be a coincidence, but I thought I should bring it up.

This is my first smartphone I have ever owned, but I have owned two tablets so I am familiar with Android and also with modding Android (rooting, boot loaders, custom ROMs, etc). If modding is the answer here then by all means tell me what I need to do so I can get a phone that functions properly.
I saw that Motorola is testing 5.1 for this phone now, perhaps that may fix these problems? Right now I am tempted to throw this phone out the window and go back to my flip phone that I can at least txt message on.
Not even a single idea?
Edit, found this:
http://www.androidauthority.com/moto-x-problems-528956/
Some users have faced problems with the device freezing, or randomly rebooting occasionally.
Potential Solution –
If the screen is frozen, tapping on the power button to turn the screen off, and turning the screen on again might unfreeze it. If that doesn’t work, a long press on the power button will reboot the device.
The likely culprit for this issue is a specific application. You can follow the instructions in Problem #4 above to find out if this is the case.
