Laptop sees different Bluetooth device name???? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Seems a bit odd this. Have a HTC Tytn II and am very pleased (just trying to determine if I actually NEED the various software I'm trialling such as Mobile Shell or whether it's just NICE to have!!). Only one issue that's not a big deal but I cannot fathom how it's happening.
I flashed the device with the new HTC WM 6.1 ROM and before connecting or doing anything I gave the device a name under About/Device ID. Now, when I switch on bluetooth and make discoverable to connect to the laptop for bluetooth syncs the laptop sees the device fine but actually recognises it as my name and not the device name which I gave the TyTn. Like I say, no big deal but I can't fathom how to get the correct device name to come up. Is it something on the device or the PC. Main concern is that if I want to connect with other people's devices and tell them the device name I have entered, it may not show up. Odd???

this is just a case of your PC "remembering" the BT MAC address of your phone and associating it with the old name.
You can normally clear out your PC of old BT names no longer needed.
On PC - go to START> Control Panel> Bluetooth > Devices
Just click on device name and select "remove".
When you re-pair it should see the new name.
Hope this helps you.

That's great, thanks. I'm about TyTn'd out now having spent the best part of a week doing nothing else but learning it, flashing it, installing apps and inputting data. Yesterday was a particular marathon!!! I'll have a look at this tomorrow.

PC's WIFI going to pot when Kaiser is connected

Hi all,
Has anyone had/seen this problem? Whenever I connect my TYTN II (Vodafone v1615) to my laptop (Sony VGN-BX197XP) runnig XP sp2 the laptop's WIFI connection drops. It then keeps dropping out and coming back even AFTER I've disconnected the device - I have to reboot to get it sensible again.
As you can imagine, this is a little inconvenient!
Can anyone help?

Sounds like the same symptoms that some people were getting with Activesync 4.5 on some machines a year ago - I thought it had been solved by now - never bit me, but my wife had terrible problems with a Vario 1 and her Sony Vaio. Have a look under "Settings->Connections->USB" - is there a check box somewhere around there to turn off "advanced" functionality? If so, do it and see if that fixes it. Microsoft added the option of a sort of IP tunnel through Activesync which really seemed to screw some WiFi chip sets,,,

Unfortunately I can't see any similar function but your pointer towards active sync seems to be right. When I uninstalled Active Sync and plugged the device in, it was fine. I installed it and as soon as it synced, the wireless dropped out. Most infuriating!
It's not any odd software I've installed either as, due to another issue, I had to hard-reset it and watch it reset itself to defaults and I was only connecting it so that I could drop the backup software on so that I could restore my backup... The device was effectively quite virginal at the time.
I recall this being an issue with the wireless card drivers rather than AS. Are you up to date on those?

It's nothing that you did - it was a serious compatibility problem between ActiveSync 4.5 and some PC WiFi chip sets - including those used in many Vaios. I checked on my Vario III after my original posting and the setting is still there under "Settings->Connections->USB to PC" and its called "Enable advanced network functionality". If you turn that off, I think it may solve your problem. I'm not sure exactly what functionality you will loose, but basic synchronisation will still work...

Device ID

Since my Kaiser is Dutch I do not know if the translations are okay.
Ik have the following problem on my Kaser (TyTN II).
In Setting, System, Info, Device ID, I have name my Kaiser with a certain name. Probably (but I do not know for sure) the problem started because I put a backup back.
When I sync with my works computer (windows XP) the name stays the same, no problem.
When I sync with my home computer (Windows Vista Home Premium) the name is changed in HTC with to digits (like HTC62).
If I change the name back to the original name the device says: there is already a device with the same name in the network.
I have deleted the sync relation, I have looked in the register of the computer and the Kaiser, checked files, checked networks, etc but I can not find out why I can not name the Kaiser as I like. It even seems that I'm not able to use any name because it always goes back to HTC..
Please help .....

Activesync error 80072f7d

I am using Activesync 4.5.0 (Build 5096) on my WinXP laptop to sync the AT&T Tilt with my laptop and outlook exchange. I have no problem with Activesync over the cellular network or wifi, but when I connect the USB and it automatically launches Activesync on the laptop, I see this error on the PC side. Looks like it is able to sync everything except the Outlook data. I looked for this error code on Microsoft site, but I don't see much details about this error code. I have installed additional SSL certificates to see if that resolves the issue, but it didn't. I have had this issue from Day-1.
It is not an issue as long as I am in USA where I have cellular data service to get the emails/appointments/contacts into my phone over the cellular network. However, when I travel, I don't plan to pay for the exhorbitant roaming charges and so would like to use the USB link to sync the info.
Has anyone else faced this problem? Is there a solution?
I heard they had wifi overseas, too. Supposedly its not that exhorbitant, and possibly more convenient than keeping a laptop with you at all times to sync your PIM stuff.
I do carry a travel router with me everywhere with my laptop while on travel to create an instant wifi access point. However, if I am sitting in one of our offices and have a LAN connection to my laptop, I don't see why I can't get my USB connection to work. I am sure there are others who need to sync up Outlook while the phone is connected to the laptop for charging purpose.
Saw this on a site, might want to check it out:
http://devnote.stokemaster.com/2008/02/activesync-45-supportcode-85020006-and.html
" Support Code:80072f7d
Fixes:
Note that this involves registry changes so be careful with it.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services]
"AllowLSP"=dword:00000000
This site has the registry file that you can double click and modify.
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/LSPvalue.reg
This disables the Layered Service Provider (LSP) that use the Windows TCP/IP stack. "
Don't know if that will work, but worth a try.
Make sure to export your original reg key first so if it doesn't help you can always change it back.
Alemaker
I tried the registry addition on the phone just now and then rebooted the phone. But, it didn't help. I have seen this discussion on pdaphone forum, but it is not clear whether it should be done on the phone or the PC side. Chris Herrera's site is also not very clear about it. The file has a .reg extension. Does the extension indicate where it should be run? I manually added the parameter on the phone.
hmm,
good question, and searching both my Vista laptop and my Tilt registry, didn't even come up with that key, but it may be making a new key.
If it didn't work on the phone, try the pc, and if it that doesn't help, was worth a shot.
This is a two part problem.....
The first thing you need to do is add the reg entry to your PC not your Tilt. You can download and run the reg entry from
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/LSPvalue.reg
or you can add the line to your reg using regedit.....
The second part is changing the connection settings within ActiveSync....
- Go to File/Connection Settings within ActiveSync...
- Go to the drop down box that reads "This Computer Connects to:" and change that from "Auto" to "The Internet"
Those two items fixed my errors......
Good luck....
The last suggestion fixed it for me.
The funny part is that this is a problem only on my work laptop. At home I have no issues.
Thanks
worked for me too
...but it didn't work with dutty's...using RynCpprV6 at the moment.
I think it is something to do with my work PC..
Just want to chime in and say this fixed the activesync error 80072f7d for me too!
(added HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\"AllowLSP"=dword:00000000, didn't reboot, and File/Connection Settings within ActiveSync changed from "Auto" to "The Internet")
Another thumbs up. Works a treat. Didn't even need to reboot.

Activesync error 80072F7D on Toshiba TG01 comes up when try to sync Toshiba TG01 with company's Exchange server
Solution;
Start>>Settings>>Connections>>USB to PC>>Uncheck box: "Enable advanced network functionality".
Sync'd up fine right after.

Aaaaaargh!!! $£(% ActiveSync!

Hi folks,
Just having a problem that's really winding me up... I really hope some kind soul can help...
OK, I have a laptop running WinXP Pro and ActiveSync 4.5
I have a Kaiser (T-Mob VIII) running the shipped ROM...
Everything has been working fine for months, ActiveSync (never used it to Sync items with the PC, purely to explore the device and move files around etc), and Internet Sharing worked without any problems...
Anyway, I'm just visiting my folks and my Dad's been having a nightmare with his Nav Cam 7700 Sat Nav unit. Basically support for the device has folded and we've lost faith. I did some reading and it turns out you can 'tweak' it to run TomTom...
So, I connected his Sat Nav to my laptop (it runs CE Core 5.0), and used Mobile Registry Editor to adjust its 'init' values to kick-up explorer rather than the (terrible) preloaded Sat-Nav software... Everything went fine, we've now got his gadget working fine and all the problems he had with the terrible software it ran previously are solved
The only issue I'm having now though, is that my laptop completely refuses to connect to my Kaiser... The system-tray icon turns green and 'spins around' for a while when I connect it, but after a while it throws up the 'troubleshooting' tool because it can't connect. Needless to say, that doesn't help solve the problem.
I've un-installed and re-installed ActiveSync, checked all the old Application Data folders, DLLs and INFs are gone (removing some by hand where necessary), and I've been through the registry on my laptop to make sure none of ActiveSync stays behind...
The problem is exactly the same
I've even tried connecting my work phone to the laptop - that's a Hermes running a HTC WM6 ROM - it behaves exactly the same as the Kaiser...
Hard-Reset of the Kaiser and changing its device name didn't help either.
...The [email protected] sat nav unit still connects fine though! £%^$)%!!!!!!!!
I'd be sooooooooo grateful for any thoughts people have, as this is driving me nuts now - I really don't want to have to reformat and reinstall my laptop just to get AS working...
Thanks,
Rob.
Bro, I'm having a big problem with the mini USB plug.... when you plug the cable to your device, does it shake or it's very stable?
The plug seems pretty stable...
I guess it can be 'wiggled' a little, but nothing that gives me cause for concern - it seems as 'tight' as the connection on the Hermes I have with me (and two more that are back home)...
I was wondering about cabling/connections for a while, but I tried Internet Sharing too, that still works fine - so there's a solid-enough connection between the laptop and the PDA - it's just that ActiveSync isn't playing ball :s
Thanks,
Rob.
Try this...on you phone go to start...settings...connections..usb to pc and uncheck enable advanced network functionality. See if it works then.
jhernand1102 - you have got to be on the shortlist for the position of 'The Font of All Knowledge'... Based on your reply I should probably now be asking 'Why are we here?' or 'What's it all about?'
That worked (in case you hadn't guessed by the paragraph above! )...
I'm confused though...
1) Why did it work with the option enabled before, but not now...
2) What have I actually turned-off? The geek in me will be a little upset thinking about 'Advanced' functionaility that was previously enabled but now isn't...
Thanks
Rob.

You are not missing anything by disabling the advanced network functionality. As a matter of fact, the USB2PC application that runs on the Diamond and Touch Pro actually advises you onscreen that you should disable it if you have connection issues.
Yeah, when I went in there I saw it was the same on my Kaiser (duh!!! - silly me!)
The thing is though, I couldn't understand why it worked with it set before, but all of a sudden didn't want to.
That caused me to do some more reading...
So with that option enabled, Sync is handled via an RNDIS gateway, with it disabled, it's basic serial-over-USB. So, for basic things, disabled is fine; but for more unusual network communication configs involved in your ActiveSync, it might be better to have the advanced network functionality enabled...
I could probably manage with the serial-over-USB method, but I would a) like to know I can use RNDIS gateway should the need present itself, and b) as a bit of a geek, I'm not happy with something all of a sudden refusing to work - especially if it's an aspect of 'functionality' to some degree...
So thinking about RNDIS not working, I started messing about with Windows, and my Firewall...
I'd already set ActiveSync (all three main executables) as trusted apps in my Firewall config, and made sure that the ports required by it were open to everything inside my internet gateway.
I made sure that Windows Firewall (lol) was disabled...
I tried with my firewall 'disabled' - running, but allowing all traffic... Still no Sync...
So, god only knows why, I just quit my Firewall app, removing it from memory...
ActiveSync worked!
I re-started my Firewall, and made NO CHANGES WHATSOEVER to its configuration...
ActiveSync still worked!
...So, it's all working again - and in effect, nothing's changed.
I'd still really love to know how connecting the Win CE Core 5.0 device knocked out sync for anything which wanted to use RNDIS... I guess I might never find out... If anyone has any good theories, I'd be interested to hear, but I am prepared to cut my losses now it's working - Never look a gift horse in the mouth!
Thanks again for all your input folks,
Rob.

[Q] WMDC synchro never ends

My lovely Diamond don't want to synchronize anymore.
In fact, the synchronization starts, but it never ends (I've waited more than 30').
I've tried to remove the pairing on both my Win7x64 PC and the WiMo 6.1; but it doesn't solve the problem.
The PC and the phone to correctly interconnect as the pairing is re-created, the Wimo SW installation popup is shown.
I can navigate into both phone's flash and internal storage.
Additionnaly, a Generic RNDIS modem appears into the peripheral windows.
SplashID (I was a PalmOS user) is able to detect if I set different password on PC and Wimo; but report a sync fail when I set both password identical.
I've lost all my contacts due to device unpairing.
Can someone help me, it's driving me nuts !
PS: Note to moderator: perhaps I had to put my request in the "General discussion / Q&A"; if so don't hesitate to move it there.
