Hello there,
I have quite an amount of strange folders in \windows - these can't be opened or deleted.
On open TotalCommander says 'either not signed or component missing'.
I have always installed software to internal storage and my system storage is down to 14MB left...
Any idea what these are? Will I have to hard reset?
It's a German T-Mob CompactIV / original T-Mob ROM.
Thx

looks like a corrupted filesystem to me. I had this a few times with my SD card on my HTC trinity. Usually it happened when I played around with some of the speed optimizations that changed the blocksize etc. of the SD card.
ok - but if these were corrupted files, shouldn't this have at least some impact on the system itself? It's running great - no errors...
So what did you do with your sd - reformat I assume?
Only to have tried it I installed and ran f-secure -> no virus found (but also no access to these folders)
ok - as somehow my phone started to go totally gaga -> hard reset
- strange folders gone
- went from 14 to 65MB

Big thanx,,,, I'm an admirer of Indian Profissonal Works. Someone Cooked the rom and the other fixed my Mobile's board geniusly.
but still I have a problem/s.
1- Some programmes like MMS composer is only installing on the device ,, there is'nt any options to install it in any other disks
2- If I installed any programme in my SD card something weired happened !!
the SD card volume decreased,, the Storage of my device decreased and the programme volume decreased... !!!! why and how !!!
3- How can I merge the Storage and Programmes memories of the device ( not of the storage card ) togther to get only one with a big size..!!
4- what is the benefit of the ram disk can I do some manipulations with it to make my device faster !!!!!
Thing to be added
I have to install many medical books as well as some programmes such as Wisbar's, Resco Pack ( Explorer, Veiwer, Recorder ) , Real & Core Players , MMS Composer and some dictionaries .... etc.
Really 30 mb is not enough...
Another issue,,, I've been searching and exploring everything I can possibly explore to find where the 4 mb of the MMS composer is ?? but I unfortunately found nothing... where a hell it goes !!!
lastly, As I mentioned in the thread above,, I do not need the Ram disk and I need something / ideas to make it useful ?!!
First of all, "Program Memory" is not a place where you can put files. It's required by programs to run, just like RAM is required by your desktop computer. The RAMdisk is RAM used as a virtual storage card. What is called "Storage Memory" is flash memory. This is the root file system, and it's persistent. That means that if you hardreset your device you'll lost everything that's on your RAM (RAMdisk) but not what's on your storage memory. Unfortunately, it is small (32 MByte) and slow, whereas the RAMdisk is very fast. You should install all your programs on RAMdisk, otherwise you will not have enough space and your device will slow down. There's one other thing called "Pagepool". It's a part of RAM used for caching, so that program run faster, but you do not need to worry about it.
So, you can't merge Program Memory and Storage Memory. Both are required by your device to run.
What happened to your SD card is quite strange. Try to format it with a sd card reader on your desktop, and check if there are errors on it.
As far as I know, you won't be able to install the MMS software on RAMdisk or SD card because it needs to be in the \Windows directory to run.
Thanx Brother
Everything is clear now ... but Still there is questions to be asked later hahahah

1. you do need RAMdisk:
-it's faster than SD card or Storage
-it keeps Storage clean
-in any decent ROM it IS both hard and soft reset persistent, unless you format it at hard reset.
2. 30 MB is more than enough for almost anyone. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=338270
I currently have 18 MB free storage with lots of installed programs, plugins, navigators, dictionaries and so on. If I'd really cared, I could probably clean up more.
Hi folks,
i have my new diamond a view hours and i configurated ALL my programms on storage card to work with the name "speicherkarte" (as i use a german device).
so i want to change the name of the internal storage of diamond from "interner speicher" to "speicherkarte".
is this possible?
my old reg keys to change the name of storagecard do not work....
any ideas
TRy doing it through schaps advanced config...have a look on XDA for it. You might be able to do it through there.
sktools
thanks for this hint.
i did it with SK-tools, (http://s-k-tools.com)
is also possible!
Hi there!
i thought this question might be right in this thread ...
first day with the diamond, and the first strange things occure ...
After disconnecting my Diamond from the usb slot my internal storage is renamed to internal storage 2, is there any way to change it back to internal storage ? maybe this can be solved with sk tools or schaps config? did not find the right functions until now
i tried to move the folder with totalcommander but the files can't be moved :/
can somebody help?
when after reboot the "internal storage" ist renamed with a number then a folder with the same name existed BEVOR reboot.
when you move everything OUT of this folder and DELETE it your "internal storage" will be named right....
thats is a security function to prevent data loss when a folder with same name exists as internal memory is named in ROM!
NOTE: I FIXED MY PROBLEM MYSELF. I kept the thread in case anyone else has this problem, you might know the fix....explained under the quote (quote = original post)
Out of nowhere my kaiser errors now on startup (with startup apps or if I manually try to open them from programs folder) saying it cannot open any of the programs located on the memory card (says "either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found"). My ringtones on the card won't play and the error states they may be corrupt or unavailable.
So basically, all of the files are there...the phone "lists" them in file explorer....it just wont open anything (including when I click on files in file explorer....it doesnt do anything...just highlights them). It will open programs and files off the device's main storage just fine.
I have removed the card and placed it in a reader, and the card is just fine....all files open perfectly.
Has anyone else had this problem? I have never damaged the phone or got it wet or anything.
It made me late to work because the alarm (appointment in calender) didn't go off (error'd on playing the tone). I really need to get this fix.
Thanks a million in advance!

What had happened is that I have inbox tmp files or something pointed to save on the memory card....but at some point yesterday the memory card was ejected slightly in the port (so the phone counldnt save to it) and I must have received a message or something because it saved to that directory. Since the card was not there, it created a folder named "Storage Card"...thus when I found my card ejected, and clicked it back in yesterday, it named the card Storage Card 2....since a directory already had the orig name. Thus....since all programs and ringtones and such look at "Storage Card" .....all heck broke loose. I deleted the folder and re-inserted the card and did a soft restart...and everything was back to normal.
Thank you for your post.. I jsut had the EXACT same problem... and deleting "Storage card" folder and soft reset fixed mine as well.. whew...!1! Thansk for saving my tail!
Help! My Kaiser can't read my memory card!
After having transferred a few media files to my Kaiser's microSD card using Activesync's "explore" function, I noticed some folders with gibberish names had been generated in the My Documents folder. I tried opening some of them and found nothing in them. I dismissed this and continued with the file transfer. The strangely-named files eventually disappeared
Shortly after, I disconnected the Kaiser from my laptop, and started the Audio Manager, as I was on my way to the gym. An error message popped up saying the "file Audio Manager cannot be opened..."
I can't remember what prompted me to do so, but I opened the File Manager and discovered that my Storage Card was not registering anymore. That said, I had to settle with the gym's crappy music, instead of my the playlists on my Kaiser
Coming back from the gym I popped the memory card (2GB Kingston microSD) into my card reader and my laptop was able to read all its contents.
This morning I tried a friend's microSD card (same make & model) and my Kaiser still couldn't read it.
Is this a hardware or software problem? If the latter, how can I rectify this?
Thanks in advance for any input.
Put it in your computer's card reader and do a filesystem check.

Watch out because Kaisers are well known for loosing whats on a microSD card (I've had this happen 3 times now) so I hope you have backed up everything of importance on your card before going any further.

I cant help with changing the gyms music but when you say "wasn't registering anymore" do you mean no files were showing in file manager (ie possibly corrupted/lost files - you never mentioned if you checked the file integrity on your laptop) or that under settings => memory => storage card tab, nothing is showing (whats in there)?

If it's software try a soft reset and if that doesn't fix it then back up your data and perform a hard reset (make sure the card is out of the device when you do this) - this is the Windows Mobile equivalent of running a recovery CDROM on a desktop PC and it will restore your devices files and settings to an 'as from the factory' state (assuming you've not changed the ROM/Radio or SPL since). Let us know how you get on.

I wasn't able to do a backup (didn't have Sprite Backup installed yet), but have manually saved all the files to my laptop.

"Storage Card" doesn't show up in File Manager at all. I'll try doing a file system check on my laptop.

Already did a soft reset several times, didn't help. I was hoping to avoid doing a hard reset, but if it's the only way...
Much thanks for all your input

It's easier than that... If you have Win XP (and probably Vista has an equivalent option), there is an often under utilised program under Start => Accessories => System Tools called 'Backup'. If you put your microSD card into it's USB reader, this program will do everything you need and it's very simple to use.

As already suggested by khaytsus, that'd be a good idea to try before going down the last ditch hard reset route.

Interesting... thanks for this. There aren't really any critical files in my memory card, so a simple copy of whatever's in the My Documents folder will do.

Make that "memory => System => storage card..." ;-)
Nothing shows in the storage card tab. That's what I meant when I said the phone doesn't recognise the card.

The advantage with using backup is it automatically throws it all into a simple single archive and saves things such as the label on your card but yes if you have a simple set up a straight copy is an option. Bottom line is that additional software isn't needed for microSD card backups.

Yes, you're right I missed the 'System'. Thats the place where I'd trust more than file explorer to actually indicate whether the card is being read. Let us know how you get on!

I tested a friend's card from his TyTN II and put it into my phone and there was still no memory card detected. I gave him my card, and his phone was able to detect it.
I finally did a hard reset, reformatted my card, and the phone still can't detect the card!
It seems the problem may well be hardware-related. Looks like I'll have to send my phone in to HTC to be checked.
Thanks again to everyone who chimed in. 'will still give an update on how things go.

Got my unit back from the HTC service centre. They had to replace the part that contacts the memory card. The old one was toast. And to think I've only had this phone for just over a year now.
Had to pay about USD120 for the part
i've had my memory card not read all the files on it two times now but recently i've kept the file heirarchy intact and havent made any new folders on the phone and it seems to be ok
Hi, it seems like i've messed up my phone. It began when the phone hung it self so i just powered it off and then on again. And now all my progs/apps that I've installed to the memorycard stopped working and i also got an error message right after the boot up. But I think I've located the error but I don't know how to fix it. When I looked in the file explorer there is a folder called memorycard2 which my memorycard now is linked to and the phone is reading from it. Although all my progs/apps is linked to memorycard not memorycard2.
But there is a folder called memorycard too but it's all empty, any sugestion how to fix this problem, I hope hard reset wont be the answare to solve it
thx in adv.
Delete that folder?
Copy all of the card contents to a PC. Format the card and copy them back.
Easy fix...
Rename \Storage Card to anything else. Soft reset. Delete the folder you renamed (not storage card as it is now fixed).
WHen this happened to me i think i took all memory cards out - disconnected from the PC and deleted the Storage Card folder - put my memory card back in and it re-created a "storage card" folder instead of Storage Card 2
Thanks for all the replies guys. I think everyones solution will work although I went with buzz83 sugestion since it seemd sloppiest. My phone runs so much faster now and it also enabled the hardware acceleration for SPB MS3, the carusell is spinning like a chamber on a rustless revolver!
Oh yeah, it did solve my problem!

It's because you changed registry values to have things like internet cache/history etc stored on your storage card.
