Create a directory called "POI" in the Garmin directory and put your POI file in there.

Side-topic- does anyone here know how to backup favourite locations so you don't have to manually add them after each ROM flash?

I have the same question. Does anyone know how to, please?
When you run Garmin Mobile XT for the 1st time, it will create a folder \Garmin in the root. The folder contains GARMIN*.NVM and GarminDevice.xml. This is the folder to backup before flashing a new ROM. And you need to restore this folder before trying the run Garmin Mobile XT for the 1st time.
This works for me and I have Garmin Mobile XT 5.00.20wp on HTC Diamond.

Sorry if this has already been answered, I searched and didn't find anything, even on the TomTom FAQ thread.
My question is, I have TomTom installed and working great, but I have a bunch of files on my SD card now. What folders do I need? Do I just need the Vioces and Maps? If I need them all is there a way to relocate them all into a folder and point TomTom to them?
I have on my SD card...

It doesn't look like it will let me do this through Activesync... I can;t get attributes for folders, only files - and even with files I can't change them. I suppose I need an SD card reader?
I hid my using active sync, not sure why it's not working for you, perhaps someone might know why.
Using a card reader should definitely work though.

When I right click on a folder via Activesync, all I get is a box with a 'General' tab. It shows the folder name, type and location. I also tried to use Total Commander to change the attributes, but no joy. I can click it to hidden but it doesn't save. Thanks for you help with this!
Once the phone syncs with active sync, I browse the sd card via my computer, phone, then sd card

How did you install TomTom ? Did it come on your SD-Card
or did you install it from DVD ?
Mine has only one or two of the folders you name on SD-Card. A few of them exist on the device ?
2577 is used by autorun iirc, you might be able to rename it

He downloaded a pirated copy!
You could just make a back-up then keep deleting until TomTom starts complaining
I had exactly this problem and found that I only needed:
/<my map folder>/
/Voices/
/Zip/
/ttnavigator.bif
Which I guess in your case would be:
/USA and Canada 675_1409/
/Voices/
/Zip/
/ttnavigator.bif
Don't take my word for it ;D but TomTom seems to be working in its entirety with everything else removed.

Yeah that seems to be what I am going to do. Irritating though, as it takes forever to transfer things to the SD card via Activesync - although I suppose if I don't have to transfer the maps thats no big deal. I am going to give this a shot. And as posted earlier, 2257 seems to be for installation only, so that will be the first to go.
Thanks for you help friends!

He may or may not have downloaded a pirate copy. I installed mine from the original CD which came with the phone and maps bought from TomTom. I couldn't install main program to SD card. My SD card folder list is as follows:
Eastern Europe - (Maps)
Schemes - (Colour schemes for maps - not sure if these are necessary)
Voices - (As it says, can work without these)
Western Europe - (Maps)
Zip - (Post codes, can work without these)
I don't know where all the other folders came from or if mine are installed in the internal memory.
I kept these folders in the root of my SD...
USA and Canada (maps, of course)
Voices
Zip (doesn't seem relevant, as mentioned above)
ttnavigator (file, just sits in root)
And TomTom has not complained. This is much better, and saves room on my card.
Again, thanks for your help!
Hi,
I'm running TomTom6 on my HTC TyTnII, with maps on microSD card.
Now, I accidentally deleted file "ttnavigator.bif" from card root.
Now TomTom6 stopped working. It says that no maps were found. (but there are still in the card root)
Please help.
Is there any way I can get the file, or generate it? Or something?
Thanks
there's a ttnavigator.bif file in the \program files\navigator directory too

Mine has the same file under \Storage Card\Program Files\Navigator. If yours does too you could try copying it to root. If not, I'm sure reinstalling it would work.
What map was it??? Also, go DL TomTOm Home from the TT website. You can use it to back up map, POI, Color Schemes, etc.
With TT Home you can back up & transfer all of your TT data between your device & your PC.
Thanks for quick reply.
I reinstalled the whole TomTom6 software as advised.
And it has generated the missing ".bif" file.
It's working again.
Thanks

Its a known issue and it doesn't matter what radio you are using. There is a fix, but it takes longer and is more of a hassle. First I don't know if you have signed up at MyTomTom.com yet or not, but you have to because the version that does work is not English speaking voices, so you will have to download an English voice. Go to the link in my signature under Programs, its called "Working TomTom", download it and install it to the device. If you need help getting the voices set up just let me know and I will walk you through it.
TYKDKobes finally got that installed. hopefully its better then the other navigation softwares I've tried so far.
Thanks will try this, finally got Nav 5 installed, but would like version 6 for newer maps. Sorry to be a bit thick, but do you mean to install the file I downloaded onto my device and the try to install Nav 6?

That CAB is TomTom Navigator 6. So just install it from your device.
Got it working, downloaded voices, Thanks heaps for you help!
In my signature is a link for all the free TomTom voices instead of trying to find them all. Just download the Zip file and extract it to your computer. You will need to REPLACE your current "voices" folder with this one. For instance my TomTom is installed on my Device, under Programs, Navigation, and in that folder you will see another folder called "voices" that is where TomTom stores its voices. All you are doing is taking the one you downloaded and replacing it with the old one. **this will replace any current downloaded voices**
"the zip file is located under cabs"
will install and test the application.
thanks

Hi, can you help me, I'm trying to install Tomtom 6 to my HTC cruise. I keep getting the message to update my ROM, I tried to follow the advice in this thread, but have failed. Can you walk me through it? Cheers
what is the speed of tomtom like on your device mate? mine is painful, screen refreshes every 1.5 seconds, whereas i get 15fps on another sat nav program (which actually holds reception better than tomtom too!)
TomTom support were helpful, told me to hard reset and try again. I think its a software issue with 6.032.
The other sat nav programs arem much more graphic intensive too, so i doubt its the graphics drivers.

Which version of TomTom did you download and install. Usually that error appears when you download the TomTomWWE(World Wide English). The one you need to download and install if you get that error is the Working TomTom CAB which can be found in my signature under CABS, Programs. Should work then.
how do I install the program from you're cab to my HTC cruise? I'm a bit of a novice at this, sorry.
Download the cab file to your computer, and copy it to your Device or Storage Card. Remember where you place the cab file because you will need to open it from you Phone using File Explorer. Now navigate to the file and click on it. It will automatically start to install, usually it will ask you to install to the Device or Storage Card, but this CAB will just install to the Device.
when I do this I get a message 'there is no application associated with..' run the application first, I can't get the tomtom application off my CD? sorry for being such a pain. Thanks for you're help.

Check your GPS speed in TomTom.
Go > Change Preferences > Show GPS Status > Configure > Oter NMEA GPS receiver > GPS baud rate > COM4
The GPS baud rate should be between 4800 and 9600, if its too fast mine exhibits the jerkiness as described in your post.

Kinda confused now. What do you mean you cant get the application off your cd? If you have downloaded the cab then you dont need the CD. After moving the cab to your phone go open it, by using your phones file explorer program(single click or double click) should automatically install itself. have you made it to that point?
This is also a great resource to TomTom 6 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330235
I downloaded the cab files from you're signature and then had a list of files which weren't associated with any program (they had the generic icon next to them) I then put all these files on my micro SD and put in my phone. I then went to these files on my phone using file explorer and there was still a list of generic icons. Maybe I did something wrong in the download. I downloaded with winRAR and extracted all the files to a folder on my desktop. I really appreciate you helping me, thank you.

No these files dont get extracted before moving to your phone. When downloaded the file should be a blue file folder icon called a .CAB. Once downloaded take that exact file and move it to your phone. Here is the link to the cab http://www.4shared.com/file/47123724/832a2d34/Working_TomTom.html

Hello all.
I use Garmin Mobile XT and am very happy with it. It is installed on \Internal Storage so the good thing is that everytime I flash a ROM I automatically get prompted if I want to install Garmin and it installs in a few seconds- just perfect.
Does anyone know how I can backup my custom locations so that I can reload them after flashing a ROM or doing a hard reset? Where/How are they stored?
Cheers!
You can use MapSource from www.garmin.com
Great, here we go again!
I've been trying to install tomtom 7 on my replacement HTC DIAMOND after successfully installing it on the first phone but it's just wont find the maps.
The same files that I used to install on the initial diamaond and the same ones i'm trying to install on the new device.
The meta file has been created and all that stuff successfully, copied all the files the the internal storage, get my device id to create the meta file, copied the file created back into the map folder, start tomtom "no maps found".
Anyone got any idea what I'm doing wrong or is it that the files used (maps) have already been installed on a previous device?
cheers
You have a new device so a different devicecode. You need to contact tomtom support for a new mapcode.
From the procedure he describes I don't think that this is actually legal...

You sure its the same version of TomTom 7. Tomtom 7 stand alone VGA version is actually different (in terms of meta) than TomTom 7 for HTC Diamond.
Also, ensure your device ID has not changed.

Be aware of that the maps must be in the first level of the folder, not like
maps/maps only maps or whatever your mapfolder is called, usually the name of the map. This is a common mistake.

Yeah - just dump map folders in the root of the Internal Storage/storage card area
Yeap, the maps are in the first level folders on the storage card with the folder for voice & the raster folder.
So would the general consensus be that it should work on the new device ? I mean bear in mind I have installed it on the other device before and now I'm doing the same process on the new device and following the instuctions down to a T.
Hi, as far I know... After installing TomTom 7 you will have a "filename".bif in Program files\Navigator
open the .bif file and you will see your device code, use the code and you should find the cards.
