I have uploaded a greek rom file for the htc wizard.
This ROM has a second level of protection that can not be bypassed only by CIDunlocking a phone.
After installing the ROM, uppon second boot (first boot installs ext rom then restarts) it displays a message
"This rom is intended only for devices sold by ace hellas" and freezes.
I think it searches for a valid IMEI range but I am not sure.
I am trying to find the exe file responsible for locking up the phone (using WM5 editing tools my maimach) but I have no luck yet. If someone could lend a hand I would be gratefull. Even giving me a hint (like how to edit the registry from a dumped ROM etc.)
Anyway, the file is located here.

Thanks in advance
Below, you can find instructions to customize smartdialing for recognizing characters for any language
My best man has the EXACT same problem with his Universal.
We haven't uploaded the firmware yet but can easily be downloaded through qtek.gr.
Can someone help?
It's a pitty not to be able to use the device just because he bought it outside Greece.
It's an interesting challenge after all.
Andrew, maybe you can send me a PM with what you have tried yet.

Check your Extended_ROM files. They might be what you are looking for. Probable workaround might be soft-resetting your device before extended_rom files are being installed, i.e. hard-reset your device now and immediately soft-reset it when you will see message "Customizing will start in 3 sec..." or something like that...

The IMEI is stored in registry within "RIL" branch, but your IMEI is not touched within traditional flashing/reflashing
A Russian fellow had done this job last year, for the S100 Greek Rom (Anansky i think was his name). The lock is not on the extended rom, but on the main OS. And if i remember well, it has an IMEI checking ytility, and another one which checks Language settings for the Language selection utility to work, but this can be changed with registry hack. Well, we are all waiting...

no it's not in extended ROM at least for the Universal (and sorry for posting in Wizard forum) - we tried your method from the first moment
1. No, extended rom has nothing to do with it , for sure.
2. Yes, anansky has done it before for the htc magician (my previous phone) but never revealed a howto.
@NLS
I have found a suspicious file called langbootcheck.exe which I tried deleting (with WM5 edit tools) prior to flashing my device. But then the device won't boot at all. Maybe this file is needed, or maybe I did something wrong?
If someone could at least tell me, how to edit the registry hives with the wm5 editing tools. This way I could see wich applications are executed on startup.

Did you try to play with HKLM\Comm\BootCount value? To put it as 0 so it is always thinking of a just hard-resetted device?
no I didn't try that, nor the device is mine (to try)
andrew try having a 0 byte file in place of the exe - maybe it needs the file to be there but nothing to happen when it is called
maybe Ace (since I am 99.5% sure that they read xda-developers), could give us a hint on why they have done this (when nobody else did on the whole planet)...

No, but it sounds like a good idea. That would explain why it doesn't lock up during the first boot process. But then again there is no way to change it because the os automatically reboots itself. Unless it installs a cab file from ext rom that does the trick. Do you think this might work?

i realy doubt it! I mean giving us a hint
I will try to replace the file with a zero-sized one. But then again I'm not even sure if it is the file responsible. I mean, that I just guessed (because the name sounded suspicious). It could be any other file. The file name could be desguized. Thats why I need to know 2 things:
1) How to edit the registry with maimach's WM5 editing tools.
2) Where is the startup configuration located i the registry
I didn't say tell us "how", I said for the to tell us "why"...
anyway...
Yeah ACE sux, well it's been really disgusting to lock the roms so we anyone who want Greek language to buy only from em. ACE think theirselves smart enough and all the other like Russian, italian, norwegian, dutch and many more who have their Qtek rom unlocked are the "stupid"...
Anyway this is a different story..
I am available to help in any way but i'm not such an expert user as you to play with the editing tools.
P.S:I see the rom is uploaded on a TEI of Piraieus server, you have any connection with teipir? I'm in the Automation.

I'm in automation dept too! PM me!
NOone? :!: Buzz? Come on, you will make many people happy!!!!
I don't want to sound nagging but it must be very easy for you!!
I found another approach to our problem.
Instead of trying to hack the rom, I extracted some dll files needed for the greek smartdialing.
I dumped the Greek rom and followed the instructions here.
http://www.buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_simpleboard&Itemid=59&func=view&id=10204&catid=45
but used the Greek smartdialing.dll instead of the one posted above.
It worked very well. I even edited the smartdialing cab found on the ext rom and included the dll. So each time I hard reset the device, the smartdialing feature works for greek characters. I think the smartdialing can be customized just as easily for any other language, just as long as you find the .dll in your language. (For this, download a rom containing the language, and user WM5 editing tools found on xda-devs).
If someone needs it, I can upload the greek smartdialing cab to overwrite the one in your ext rom (for wizard only).
I also use AEKMAP for the internal qwerty and I find it very stable, simple and small.
So I guess there is no much point in hacking the greek rom (unless someone wants the menus customized - I don't).
how did you dumped the greek rom ?

the second is very helpful but the fact that im uncomfortable deleting registry values that aren't specicific cancels it out.
any help and the diligent yet apprehensive reader of this great forum that gets made fun of by his wife for staring at the screen to read so much usefull info would be greatly appreciated!

The MMS walk through for non-working MMS. ( Originally by ndiguy5 )
1.) Remove MMS from the registry.
2.) Registry: HKLM\Software\Arcsoft\ArcSoft MMS UA
3.) Now install Arcsoft_MMS_4281 to install MMS back to phone.
4.) Install network wizard, if you have it already installed skip this and goto the next step.
5.) Now use the network wizard to set up your settings.
6.) It should ask you to soft-reset.
7.) Now you should have a working MMS. If any problems post and I will try to assist you.

You can just normally post. I saved many spots in the beginning of this thread so it wont be a big mess.
Also as it grows I will always put the post numbers next to a particular application or fix so when people read they can get all info from the first page so you don't have to read the whole thread to solve an already solved problem or read about an application.

Once again many thanks to all who helped me papamopps who is a great teacher and will have you laughing as he teaches. I am sure all his students love him for his humor. And it was his idea for me to start this whole thread here. zcink who always quietly finds his solution and will always share. Dutty for his wonderful nbhtool as his work is legendary already. Dark Simpson for his htc rom tool. And all the others who helped me learn and the noobs who got me searching for answers.
And last but surely not least ivanmmj Who started this thread and brought this to our attention. Also ttran001 who wrote the original how to, all I am doing is making it easier for people to use and supplying all the files.

13.) Click on the Decompile NBH file button.
14.) Browse back to the RUU_singed folder and locate the new RUU_signed.nbh file.
15.) Choose the same location or the one of your choosing to save the extract files.
16.) Once completed it will extract a new file called PrimarySplash.nb, this is your new Splash replacement file.
17.) OK now goto folder step 3.

My Setttings -> Device Information -> shows ROM version as 4.17.405.2 WWE
what should I be entering?
Previously, when my device was a boxed-product it used to display the IPL, SPL on booting up, but after upgrading using the help found here, it only shows me the htc screen and I can only check the IPL/SPL if I go to the boot loader mode. The htcrom tool shows some options on the right side. Would entering the values there provide the values for IPL/SPL on booting?
How do I select the PrimarySplash.nb file? There is no selection box available. N checkin again, I see that nothing can be edited in the boxes on the right.
EDIT: Didn't realize that those were buttons next to the text boxes, so the 3rd question is answered. The first 2 remain...

Hi folks
I Just found a dusted "Blue Angel" Device in the cupboard, that I always wanted to use with Linux but had already given up some time ago.
Now, before selling it off at ebay, I wanted to give it another try and was delighted to see the "idiots guide" on this wiki page:
[xda-developers wiki ]BlueAngel_Linux
What happened so far:
I go to buy a SD-Card of 2GB (couldn't get a smaller one at my local store), put the image on it and give it a try.
It boots and brings up a familiar login prompt.
I login with root/rootme and get: "can't access tty; job control turned off" and a shell prompt.
The keyboard only works partially (only letters, no punctuation) so i can't even type "cd.." to navigate
Googling and looking at some (wiki-)pages here, at handhelds.org and linuxtogo.org didn't help me any further yet.
My Questions:
Did I do something wrong up to here?
What to do to make the keyboard working (did I mention it's a german Device?)
Can I launch some kind of GUI at this point (heck I don't even know if the Image contained GPE or OPIE ;-) ) or is the "can't access tty.." a problem i have to fix first?
Is there a more up to date image (to fix the keyboard-issue) I can use with the idiots guide or some evenly up to date documentation out there? I'm a regular Linux-User on the desktop and not afraid of the command-line?
Device Info:
Model No: PH20B
ROM Version: 1.22.01 GER
ExtROM-Version: 1.22.182 GER
Radio Version 1.06.00
I hope someone can help me on this before I go the ebay path

I must admit that I don't really unterstand the HaRET magic yet. Didn't find any documentation until now.
Can you point me to some usable Documentation for my project? At the moment I'm interested in:
- HaRET (how to configure and use it, up-to-date downloads)
- How to build a SD-Image by yourself (I stepped on something similar at handhelds.org but that seemed really outdated.)
- Any info readable by a non-developing but willing to learn human
Thanks again, Markus

I don't know much about HaReT myself, but I do know that you have to have the right parameters on the default.txt (or config file) otherwise, the thing will either crash or not boot (and this is where it can get tricky).
As far as the SD image, I was trying to get something to make an image of an SD not too long ago and I found a program called Winhex, which can make images of sd cards. However, you need to get the full version to be able to mount the image on a card. You mentioned something else in your post. Are you using a different program for SD images? I would love to know about this program if you have one.
I haven't forgotten about the things on the SD card, I will post them (SD image is not necessary though) but I just haven't had the time.
-go to: http://www.linuxtogo.org/~htcpxa/htcblueangel/Qtopia/
-download Qtopia-Linux-htcblueangel.exe and QtopiaPhone-image.rootfs.tar.bz2
-copy them to sd card, make sure you have at least 200-300 mb free
-start Qtopia-Linux-htcblueangel.exe,for the first time it will generate a 200 mb root file, so it could take a while
-next time you boot in qtopia it is much faster.
ps: you dont have to edit text files in this case.
ps2: also on irc-freenode there are developers who managed to install even ubuntu on there phones
Hi everyone, I searched a lot on this forum and others and I couldn't find an answer to my problem (or even if my problem is a big deal). I flashed Assonance with the include kernel, my first ROM flash =-) and I did a lot of research before I did it and decided to backup my Android ID...which I did, BUT I only wrote down the number and now when I enter it into "Android ID Changer v1.5" I click "Change ID" and it automatically reboots but does NOT change my ID...yes I have busy box and super user access. Can anybody help me? Is this even a big deal?
on the root of your SD card, create a file name udpate.id (yes, udpate, it's a typo, but that's what the startup script reads) and put only your android id in it. then restart your phone and check if the idea has changed. also it's not that big of a deal, but the problem with these custom roms is that everyone on the same rom ends up with the same android id (i think?) which causes us to queue up for downloads on the market instead of downloading instantly.

Kernal version 3.0.36+ [email protected] #396 (Wed Jul 22 17:40:16 CST 2015)
Build number RK3188-ENG4.4.4 23072015.09:09:11
CPU ARMv7 1.6Ghz (x4)
It is rooted via the factory settings method. But other than that it is pretty much still stock (I added a cooling fan). The only other apps I add where PowerAmp, PowerAmp Toast, Xposed Framework, XposedMTC, and Lucky Patcher (I believe this app fully unlocks the PowerAmp app). I have had no issue with it for the last 7 months.
However, the other day it took a long time to bootup. Now I have some google service errors: "the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped"
I have to keep on clicking "OK" in order for the error pop-ups to close. I have to repeat this several times until all the pop-ups finally stop. Other than that, everything else is working properly. Although I notices that Xposed and PowerAmp Toast do not start (no icons on the top notice bar).
I tried going to Settings/App Manager/Google Service Framework - and then I click Forces Stopped it, Disable, Clear Data, Clear Cache, Enable. Then I reboot, but I still get the same google service errors.
Can someone please help me fix this? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Galo
PS - One other thing. This is related to the XDA website in general. How can I get rid of that stupid side panel (Analysis & Opinion / More XDA New). It keeps on automatically scolling and gets in the way of reading and typing. It is really annoying. Can someone tell me how to switch this off. Thanks again
Lucky Patcher has a "clear cache" option. Maybe try that? Should force all the Android apps to optimize at boot and maybe fix your issues.
Hello BullGawd,
I already tried that. I also tried going into Settings/App Manager and clearing the cache for Google Services Framework.
I even tried by pressing the small reset botton on the face of the head unit. I am trying to avoid doing a factory reset from the recovery screen.
Has anyone had this issue with this these head units? How did you get this error fixed.
Thanks,
ggee
Hi guys,
My unit is stock. But I think I am just going to flash a newer version of the factory firmware (kitkat 4.4.4). In the old threads there used to be two repositories. One was the huifei-fileserver, and the other was a Google Drive site. Now I only see the huifei-fileserver.
Anyways, I downloaded the latest KLD RK3188 800x480 firmware:
http://huifei.fs-fileserver.de/cont...D 4.4.4/800x480/KLD 800x480 20150820 Factory/
However, it looks like the firmware .img file is made up of two parts. Both are zip files and each one contains a .img file.
-Am I supposed to merge both of these files into one .img file? If so, how do I do this?
-Or am I supposed to put both of these .img files into the root of the sd card (then insert to the gps slot)?
I know how to flash and update the firmware. However, I have only ever seen this process done using one .img file - not two. Can someone please clarify what to do with these two files in order to flash them properly. I do not want to gamble and brick my unit.
Thanks,
ggee
is one an mcu.img file? If so, remote that and only flash update.img

Hello,
The first zip file says Part1 and its 204MB in size. This zip contains one update.img (634MB when extracted). The second zip file says Part2 and its 91MB in size. This zip also contains one update.img (yet it is the same size when extracted - 634MB). This is confusing and should be something easy and straight forward.
I am not sure if both of these files need to be merged. If they are supposed to be merged, how would you do this (what app does this).
-OR-
I am not sure if both update.img files need to be copied to the root of the sd card. However, both files cannot have the same name within the same directory, otherwise one file will overwrite the other. One file name will need to be changed. But I believe once you change the name, the head unit will not recognize it as a firmware image anymore.
Can someone please clarify this.
Thanks,
ggee
ok you need to use winrar first to combine the two. Are you sure these weren't rar files NOT zip files?

Hello,
Yes, these are winrar files and I also use the winrar software. Sorry, I tend to use the word "zip" when talking about compressed file formats in general. Both files I am speaking about are winrar (Part1 and Part2). And each has an update.img file. How do I combine the files? Is there a special function within winrar?
BTW - do you have any idea about my original problem (google services stopped working)? Since I have not gotten a definitive answer, I was thinking about either doing a factory resetting, or just updating the firmware and mcu. I decided to update and that is why I'm stuck on these two "winrar" files, and how to combine them.
Thanks,
ggee
if you search that is a very common problem. Resetting won't fix it. Open first rar and extract. It will then combine the two into one update.img file.

Hello Dave,
Thanks for pointing this out. I honestly have never had to merge two winrar files together before. I was definitely overthinking this process. I guess this happens when dealing with the more complex issues here, and not wanting to brick the unit. I really appreciate it.
As for my google services problem. I have done several searches on this topic. I do see lots of people asking how to fix it. But I do not see posts answering them back with a fix. The only other answer I was able to search out is on the Old Threat Q&A sticky (Problems and Solutions Found by Users):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56791126#post56791126
This is a very vague answer and does not give much detail. I tried what they mentioned and it does not work for me. I think after the Old Threat was split, the answers are probably scattered around in partial chunks. If you have a the link to an answer/solution to this, I would be greatly appreciative. Otherwise, I am forced to have to update/flash the firmware on an issue that probably could have been easily solved. If it is a very common issue, maybe it should be its own sticky so that people can easily see it.
Thanks again.

There is no fix but myself and another person did try a bunch of different versions so search for it to find the most stable version.

Hello guys,
Yes. I was able to correct the problem.
All I did was re-flash the stock firmware rom. You can either re-flash your current version (if you have the update.img file for your head unit model). Or you can find the post in the Android Auto forum that lists most of the stock firmware roms. Make sure you select and download the correct one for your head unit type and model. I simply went back to the seller and asked them to send me the latest official stock firmware rom.
If you have certain apps and setting that you want to keep, make sure you make a back up before re-flashing the rom. Otherwise you will have to reinstall the apps and setting. Since I am basically keeping my head unit in a stock status (except for normal root), I just skipped the back up step and re-flashed the rom.
Extract the .zip or .rar of the firmware rom image. Then copy it to an SD card and insert it into you head unit. Reboot the head unit into recovery mode. Make sure to clear caches while you are in the recover mode, before re-flashing the rom. Then follow the menus for flashing the rom.
Later,
ggee
