Anyone knows if there is a really small navigation software (w/maps) out there??
TomTom 7 inkl european maps is allocating almost the whole "internal memory" on my Diamond...

TomTom Navigator 2 map size

Ive just ordered the TomTom Navigator 2 - I cant find much information as to how big the maps are.
Does Anyone know how big an SD card im going to need to fit the whole UK map on it.
maps
I don't know how much space the whole UK would take but just as an example Greater London is about 3.5 megs whilst Cambridge is about half a meg, also it would take yonks to install
99mb to install full uk map and the program

THANKS - THATS WHAT I NEEDED TO KNOW

What GPS software

Does anyone know of any other GPS software available for the Kaiser I'm currently using TOMTOM but was wondering what others were available. I need it to have UK maps and I also travel to Florida fairly often so maps for there would be nice too.
I dont want this to turn into another " What is the best GPS software" thread. Just what is available out there and possibly a link to trial versions (if your feeling nice)

No NEVER!!!! use orange maps lol
Windows Live Search Mobile. Great software from Microsoft. Since you're UK based it has maps available for the UK and US. Hope you have a data plan though because it downloads maps on the fly.
I use a combination of tomtom, garmin, google and live search moblie....tomtom is more responsive, performance wise compared to garmin. Garmin is more refined and has some neat features.Bottomline, it all depends on personal preference.

garmin seems nice. i know you can load your own custom poi's, and not be limited to 10mb like on a gps unit!!!
How about Navigon MobilNavigator.
I have been using it on my Kaiser ever since I got the Kaiser (I used it on a Herald, a Wizard and a Universal before) and I have always been very happy with it.
I find that the route planning is the best available.
Give it a try.
Good luck with your choice.

I've tried a few different GPS apps and I think that the new iGO8 beats them all. Give it a shot... can't say anything about the maps in UK and US though.
Destinator...
Wayfinder - can subscribe to another country for a month or more.
did anyone had problems with wm 6.1 and igo 6 plus?
since i had instaled wm 6.1 (the official htc release) ..i couldn't reinstall igo 6 plus...

Totally agree, this is some great software, the maps are in great detail and the signposts/exit direction signs are lovely. Really easy to see. Then theres the TTS, best one yet - it actually says 'take exit off motorway, junction 3a' in a non robotic way. Its all good..
Google this - Sygic McGuider - and you'll find it..
I personaly use miomaps mainly becasue, you can put on whatever maps you want and all the United States are divided up. The program plus Florida maps is under 92mb
I use iGuidance 4, it gives you door to door directions and works well with my at&t tilt. I use GPS Utilities if I am out camping and hiking.
maporama is pretty good - used it on my i780
http://shop.maporama.com/index.php?cPath=43
but I use tt6 on my kaiser
My personal choice...
I've tried destinator, route 66, sygic...
was a staunch tomtom 6 fan until I got my hands on ;-) a copy of IGO 8 - it really has all the best features from all the other systems in one app. The speed camera support is phenomenal - if you pass the start of an average speed camera, it monitors your average speed and tells you if you go above it until you get past the average speed camera zone... and with static cameras, it only beeps if you're speeding, and keeps beeping until you slow down (Route66 is the only other that does this)...
There is also a Text to Speech engine (TTS) so if you want it to, it will actually speak the road names.
You can just copy the relevant files to your sd card and run it from there without installing it...

Copilot Live 7 Diamond Edition

Just came across this while bowsing the pocket GPS site. Anyone tried it, looks like a good alternative to TT7 and would be less hasle installing the maps.
http://www.alk.eu.com/diamond/
I'm already running Copilot 7 on my Diamond. I don't think this version is any different but I could be wrong. Installation of the standard version was easy anyway.
I purchased the Diamond version of CoPilot 7 from Handango. It installed quickly & easily. It's VGA & uses the scroll wheel to zoom in & out.
I haven't fully tested it yet but first use on foot lagged. I have messed a bit since so hopefully it will be better.
The gps picked up pretty quickly and accurately so happy there.
Copilot 7
hello,
Can you test it in your car ? and report if it lag like Tomtom navigator 7 or not.
tanks in advance.
@++
Lag? I've not noticed any lag and having used TT for several years now I'd likely be quite sensitive to any delays..

I've been using the 7-day trial version of CoPilot7 on my Compact IV, and I have to say, the route planning seems to be WAAAAY better than TomTom5 on my MDA Pro! Not to mention that it seems you get traffic info on the CoPilot. Apparently, T-Mobile customers can upgrade to the full license for £50 all inc. Alternatively, for those that have a Diamond but not on T-Mobile, they might consider downloading it from Handango for just under £56:
http://www.handango.co.uk/PlatformP...pe=2&sectionId=0&siteId=172&txtSearch=copilot
For the price difference, I'm wondering whether I'd be better off paying the extra £6-odd and getting it from Handango - that way, if I do load a cooked ROM, I've still got the full software for CoPilot?

It may be an idea to pay the extra. I have flashed a new ROM 3 times in the past week so it's been useful having the files at hand. The CoPilot software auto installs when the Diamond boots up again which is very useful. I keep the files on the root of the internal storage as it recommends.
I don't know if it's the same for the normal version of CoPilot 7 but as I said the Diamond version is VGA and uses the scroll wheel to zoom in and out of the map.
I have been busy at work recently and haven't really thought about testing the software properly but I have some free time soon so will check it out more. In particular I want to check it when walking as alot have complained about the GPS on the Diamond when walking.
I've used quite a number of GPS navigation programs, Tom Tom 7, Co Pilot 7, NavMan, Garmin and I can say personal experience with Australian Maps is Tom Tom routes the best for me. I've had Co-pilot do a huge loop around a destination when there was a straight road to the place or choose really interesting routes.

Normal version also is VGA and supports scroll wheel zoom. I think the only difference is a specific install for the Diamond (due to lack of SD slot). Normal version is easy install anyway.

Normal version also installs on Internal Storage if you want it to. I had tried the normal version before and I'm now setting up the Diamond edition. If I spot any changes I'll report

May I ask where you got this from? I've searched high-and-low as I'm keen to try it out before parting with my cash...

So, its been about a week, found anything?
I'm also very intersted in this.
BTW, the 7-day trial is only officially available with T-Mobile. I have asked ALK if there is a demo version of the Diamond edtion, but there isn't.
The other thing that puts me off is that for the combined price of the TD and CoPilot (with Euro maps) I could get a nice standalone sat nav solution. However, I have bene told by ALK support that if I buy the Diamond edition of CoPilot and then change my phone, I will need to re-purchase CoPilot. I don't know how true this is, but two different ALK support guys have now told me the same. However they did also say that the standard version would run perfectly happily on a Diamond.
It would be nice to confirm whether or not the Diamond edition does have other benefits over the standard, apart from the ease of installation. If not then I can't see any reason to buy the Diamond version.

The normal version is not VGA, if you look closely at the splash screen and the graphics you will notice a slight pixellation of the images/graphics. This is because the regular WinMo version is designed for QVGA or lower.
But the maps do not pixellate because I assume they are vector graphics (or some equivalent).
I have the normal Copilot 7 and can confirm that all the veatures mentioned for the Dimond version appear to work the same for the normal version.
I installed by using the Copilot Central to install the program, then I just copied the folders off of my SD card to the internal storage.
Some instruction for copying the SD card can be found here:

I think that like for TT7 the maps are registered to a code that is valid for the device it is being used on....change your device then there is a code bust and you cannot use the maps.....hence the need to get the maps again
.....not sure if/how you can transfer your maps from one device to another (when you upgrade)

Destinator 7 too slow

Hi,
Is anyone here running Destinator 7 (forced to VGA) with a ~200MB map?
I got an updated map to Brazil (2008.q2) and Destinator now runs like installed in an 100mhz device...
It's true that with the map used before (just my City - São Paulo - 50mb) it was not so fast (Tomtom runs much more smooth but has older maps).
Any idea to optimize it? If i move the main app to internal memory make a great diference?
Thanks for the help Bros.

i have the same problem with tt7. recalculating takes too long.
more than 10 seconds. (which is long when you have to know when to take the alternative turn if you take a wrong one)
I'm a bit frustated with the GPS usage in Diamond
The best map for my country is Destinator compatible but the program itself runs very slow (almost not usable).
The second best map is Igo 2006 compatible but i cant make any navigation software based on its core run in Diamond (igo2006, MioMap3.3, onCourseNav, V7... )
The 3rd choice is TomTom7 but the map has some errors in some regions (downtown) of my City so i dont trust in it anymore.
I'm trying Garmin XT V4 this week. But i guess the map is a little old and designed more to inter cities roads than to urban (streets and avenues)use.
Igo8 runs but dont have maps to my place.
So i dont have a good solution at the moment.
Is destinator 6 more light that the 7 version? Is it deservs a try?

[Q] iGo 8 Problem

Hi
I installed the Igo but on my Galaxy Note but it appears only 1/3 of the screen
How can i make it full screen? There is no other problem with it, all functions correctly but it is not full screen
The SD card was taken from an device (optimus 3D) which had 840x600 resolution.
(Still the displayed image is not 840x600)
Also my phone is not rooted and the apk it taken from torrents (cracked)
Please help
Thank you!
There is no iGO for 1280x800 yet. The best people can get is 960x540 with black bars on the sides (with one of the skins, don't remember which but read about it few days ago). In the meantime I recommend sygic. Not as customizable as iGO but more reliable in my exprience. Full screen + full resolution.
Does it have offline maps? (That is the only reason i use Igo, otherwise i should use google maps)
Yes it does. I know what you mean, if you really use GPS, offline maps are a must. Mobile data connection is too unreliable, it lets you down when you need it the most.
CoPilot can run on full screen on GNote. iGO request specified skin file to run in GNote which is not available yet.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium

Which Sygic version is Full screen + full resolution for galaxy note?
Is there any navigation which can use iGo map files ?
I'm from Serbia, and unfortunately the best maps for our banana country are for iGo, I've tried many others and they have only major roads
iGo is functional on Note, but its annoying that it doesn't support our resolution
