is there a way to increase my wifis range? I know other people who could get better signals than me and i was wondering if it's possible to increase the range by doing curtain things.
Well there is a screen to setup the power save function for WiFi and you can set it to max performance but I don't know if that increases the signal range. From my experience, I don't get 100% signal from my own WiFi router unless the mobile is literally a few cm away from the antenna. As soon as I move to the next room the signal frops to 40% or less though still works fine for web browsing.

Does anybody know how to improve the tilt's Wifi Range? I have to be practically sitting on top of my router for wifi to work. I literally go behind a wall, or over 20 feet away, and I can't connect.
hmm i dun seem to have that problem i have my router set in the basement and i'm in my room on the top floor...two levels up and i dont have any problem connecting

I had the similar issue. I believe it might be the router issue. I had to set the router to use different channel. After I did that, it seems connecting without issue.
However, previously, I could connect my other wireless devices when I was far away from the router. However, it does not work well with tilt thou.
no issues here, excellent range and speed.
move the slider in the "battery saving - better performance" to "better performance" (dunno how they're called in the English roms but the idea is clear) in the wifi options and it should improve
you can increase the power in the "Wireless LAN" (in settings/connections) and go to the "power mode" and drag it to max performance (you'll loose some battery life).
Otherwise try reseating the router to a more central area, and move any microwaves and cordless phones that are close to it. Or get a better router.
(soz i have just repeated what Gpx85 just said as he posted just before me)
I think I will try the "Router Channel" issue. That sounds promising, as the other stuff I have already attempted.
Thanks for the feedback. Appreciate it!
Actually, I also did to reseat my router and increased the performance from WMob.
The range isn't as good as a laptop with integrated antenna. This is to be expected, as the Kaiser has a smaller, lower gain antenna. About 40 feet away through one floor and a couple of walls I get 1-2 bars, vs 2-3 from my Laptop with Intel a/b/g wireless.
as subject, i have speed problems with resco, it download files from my pc through wifi at max 39kb/sec.
Notice that a speed test with internet explorer, retrieve very good results. Has someone the same issue?
Same here
I have the same issue... it's unbearable to transfer a file over wifi from my home PC to the phone... a problem I didn't have with my old DELL Axim x50v or my Qtek 9100...
Haven't found a solution yet, please help!
try to upgrade to v 7.05 and set wifi power to BETTER peformances
Is your wifi set to best battery or best performance as this changes speed from 120kbps for me to 320kbps.
Also how good is your signal. The diamond has a very small and weak antenna, even right next to my router I dont get anywhere near full signal strength.
How much do you understand about wifi? Basically, the weaker the signal the slower it goes. To get the full 54mbps you need to be close and in clear line of sight. As the distance increases and the signal gets weaker it slows everything down to keep the data integrity and can eventually go as slow as 1mbps.
The best you can usually expect is 34mbps real world speed.
Also, for each drywall the signal is weakened by 25% and for each brick wall it goes down by 50%. So those who expect the range to be the 100meters written on the box are often left dissapointed. Generally it will cover your house and nothing more.
Also note thats 54mbps (Mega Bits Per Second). Most seem to think its megabytes.
Solved!
All right! Switching to BEST PERFORMANCE instead of BEST BATTERY improved the transfer speed over WiFi from 30Kb/s to 250 Kb/s!!!!
Thanks to everyone who replied!
my max is 520Kb/sec (peak of 5-6 sec) with a Belkin router + ddwrt firmware.
As the title suggests, I have very weak Wi-Fi reception with my Diamond. I already set the Wi-Fi to best performance, I was wondering if there was any other setting that might help enhance the reception. I hate to think the unit is defective.
I'm only getting Three bars of signal in the same room, it hovers between four and five within three or so feet, but if I leave the same room it drops to only one bar most of the time, occasionally shooting up or dropping all together. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi
It could be so many factors. Have you changed the channel number to see if that helps What other electronic equipment is close by the router and maybe bluetooth or wireless devices such as telephones etc that my use 2,4ghz frequency (if thats what you are using on 802.11 router. My diamond picks it up just fine.
But bear in mind the overall speed should not really be affected that much for browsing etc if at all
How would I go about changing the channel? Im a bit of a novice with networking.
you would need to change the channel on your route by going into its properties normally something like 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.2.254 etc. But read up if you are unsure so you done mess up any other settings that could disconnect or interrupt your current wireless settings
Anyone notice dodgy wifi 802.11 signal? I have dd-wrt firmware on my Linksys router with the transmit power amped up and still while in the same room the reception meter on the n1 shows 2out of 3 bars sometimes. Seem peculiar to me. I've tried different channels, lowering the transmit power on the router also.
I am an old iPhone user and I have noticed the same. My iPhone was always connected fine and then in the house I look at the N1 and it is on 3G.. i have to go back into settings-> wireless & networks -> wi-fi settings and connect to my wifi again....
No I mean it just has a poor signal.I look at the wireless clients from my router configuration and the phone has a low signal
ya. but it is essentially the same problem... mine is just worse..
Compared to my iPhone 2G, my T-Mo N1 seems to show the WiFi on full bars less of the time, but actually have better reception in real life marginal areas. In other words, my experience is that the actual reception is better, but the indicator graphic doesn't show full bars as readily as the iPhone did.
I'm having a strange issue with my Exhibit . I'm running CyanogenMod 11 20140714-UNOFFICIAL although I think I saw this earlier too. When I'm home on my WiFi, battery use it great. Under 2%/hour. When I'm at work on the WiFiit is pretty bad, around 6-7% per hour. If I turn off WiFi, it gets much better (maybe 3% per hour). Same thing if I forget the WiFi network at work. Sometimes in my battery use graph I can see it get flat for and hour and then get bad again -- I think this is losing the WiFi connection for a bit and then reconnecting.
Work recently moved and the results didn't change enough though my data service strength changed a lot. So I'm pretty sure it has to do with the WiFi network. Other people at work don't notice a drain when using WiFi, so I'm guessing it is a combination of the work WiFi and the phone.
The work WiFi is running tomato 1.27, which I administer. I sniffed the WiFi traffic with my laptop and saw a lot of ARP requests for 'who has address' for address not on the WiFibut on our unsecured network. So I separated that with a VLAN and that helped a bit but not a ton, and the ARP requests are much lower (maybe a ~1 / minute). Signal strength is as good or better at work than at home and at home there is way more congestion of neighbor's WiFi.
I know it isn't my phone usage as I would reboot my phone and not touch it for 3 hours and look at the battery drain at both work and at home and see these differences.
Any ideas on what makes the WiFi at work with a tomato router (vs some netgear wifi router) worse on battery than my home network. Work has maybe 7 clients connected at a time, vs probably just the phone at home. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot / debug. Packet sniffing on the WiFi didn't show anything that stood out.
Thanks!

try adjusting some of the settings in the wireless advance settings also make sure your wifi is using the least crowed possible channel and 1,6,and 11 can overlap without interference. easy way to find the best channels is to use an app on a laptop or smartphone with wifi.
Android Wifi Analyzer Free in app store
windows insidder 3 free
Linux LinSSID free
*NOTE too much interfernce may cause network delays which in turn force rechecking connection due to lost packets. also it after trying the above the second thing it could be is possible routers wifi is slowly going out. I've had a linksys router do that. new ping was awesome for e.g playing league of legends 81 when wifi notice her wifi connection kept droping. rebooted router and it worked fine for a a while then did it again and slowly became more frequent ping also increased to 106. replaced router with a new one and ping dropped to 73 and 0 wifi drops or slow downs. hope this helps
I'm pretty sure it isn't interference. At home there are 15 strong WiFi stations across all channels. At work, there are only 2 other WiFi stations and mine is at a channel far from them, so the X-talk from WiFi is way better at work. Also when work moved, I saw no change (although WiFi wasn't crowded at only location either) so I think it has to do with the WiFi network and not the environment.
did you test to make sure wifi isnt dropping packets either as well as check routers wifi intervals

How would you test if wifi is dropping packets? Just a ping on my phone? I can ping wireless consistently from my desktop, but that is over ethernet.
What do you mean by "wifi intervals"? Is that a setting I should see on my tomato firmware? "Beacon Interval" is set to 100, but I don't claim to understand that. "DTIM Interval" is set to 1.
Thanks,

yes that is correct for wifi intervals in the tomato firmware. look at This for better info for what each setting is for. the 3 main ones i would be adjusting as needed is Beacon Interval , Fragmentation Threshold and Interference Mitigation. To test pack loss anything thats on wifi and can ping router. So yeah your phone will work. just make sure you ping the routers ip address e.g for linksys 192.168.1.1
I haven't changed any of the wireless settings yet, but I do have more data. My phone sometimes is on the wifi and has normal (low) battery usage. Today from 9:30 - 12:30 it was great, but after 12:30 there was a discontinuity in the battery vs time graph as the slope decreased by over a factor of 3. Not sure what changed -- I don't see different devices on the wireless or higher wireless utilization. I'm thinking something in the wifi trips a setting or something on the wifi isn't completing on the phone and is draining the battery.
