Backup settings and data - Wing, P4350 Herald Upgrading

Hi, after flashing and flashing different roms, I finally found one and did some customizations the way I want. Is there a way that I can completely backup all the settings (including themes, color, menu, registry items, etc...) so I can still test new roms. Thanks

you can try the new spbbackup to back up the entire device, but you cannot restore it on another rom build, it is possible to damage your device if you restore on a different rom build.

Thank you. But it is not free. Is there any free method? I don't mind if it is a little complicated.

ROM Installation questions

I have looked into a few threads and found some information but nothing to answer my questions
when installing a new ROM will i be able to save my current ROM + settings + porgrams in order to revert back to at a later point in case the newer Rom I dislike?
also
Installing a ROM will probably delete my o2 Service settings how will i go about getting them all back/setting my phone up again?
Any help on these 2 questions will help greatly especially from o2 users who have changed ROMs
search for UC-user customization i believe

u can make a backup of your rom, then flash a new one and if u dont like it, u can flash back to your first rom and restore the backup.
What u mean by servise settings? Like provider settings for mms, internet, ....? If so, then almost every rom has app called connection setup that will automatically detect your provider and setup your settings.
lol i was about to post the same question as well. now that i know this i have one question, would it be better to get a start a new rom when i get a microsd memory or is it enough with the phone memory?

the rom is stored in phone memory, but when u want to install new apps, its better to install them to sd.

More info on the back up side of things would be great.. i have found some old thread on dumping.. but at the time of writing there was no way to compile the parts of the dump and re flash the ROM
Is there an easy way to do this now?

Back Up Question

I will admit although I am a seasoned mac user and program specialist im totally lost with my fairly new Touch Diamond,Sprint, I have don many hacks and mods and i really like the phone. I would like to try different roms but i will only do so if i can totally back up the phone, I mean so i can just restore to the exact same way it is now Is this possible? Sorry for the possibly lame question. Thanks,
Mike
NOw that almost 40 of you have viewed this can i get some kind of answer

U DONT need computer to do a back up or restore, unless you format internal storage on device.
Install the program and do the backup.
The back up is stored on internal storage, you can keep the .cab file of the backup program there to.
So when somthing wrong-(wipe device) and after fresh install of windows install spbbackup .cab and then restore what ever you backed up.
Somthing like this
and forgive my english
ah very nice. thank u muchh
Is there a way to "image" the phone, so EVERY thing is backed up? Like installed programs, settings, contacts, colours... everything?

There are many backup options available. You can use an app like Sprite Backup or Sashimi to backup anything you want to keep including the registry. Microsoft has the MyPhone service as an option.
You can always flash back to the shipped rom to get your device back to factory state. If you don't flash your device and you do some tweaks/hacks that screw it up you can always hard reset and start fresh. Good Luck!

Most backup options won't do a "complete" backup - like an "image" of the phone that can be put back on so that there is absolutely EVERYTHING on the phone back on it.
I'm talking like putting a ROM on, but it being my entire phone - settings, documents, call log, pictures, installed programs, etc.
The reason being is that I already had to hard reset earlier this week, and it's a pain to have to do EVERYTHING over again.

I don't know if there is anything like what you want yet. I was trying to help the OP.
I think the closest thing you can get right now is Sashimi but I seem to remember that someone was working on something similar for frequent rom flashers.

I'm going to try Sprite Backup. Sounds like it might work.

guide wanted for the following

I could search through the whole forum but maybe is a guide on it's place here.
Is there a way to backup all things except the installed Rom and Kernel, and maybe the launcher?
So smsses, applications and it's settings, keyboards etc.
Purpose: being able to install clean CM and applying a kernel and after that restoring all my applications, smss's etc...
Thanks for taking the time to explain this!

Why don't you just reflash new ROM without wipe? All you data you want stays and you have new rom.
I want to make sure nothing old remains. Why do they advise to do a wipe anyway?
wrong section but titanium backup should do the trick

To ensure that no remnants of the previous Rom/kernel remain. If you notice weird behavior wipe is advisable
With other words it is unclear. That is why I want to do that.
Now I have Tit. backup on my device, however never really used it. (I bet 90% of the people don't). So my question remains. A little guide to be fool proof to do this.

It's very easy. If you are using Titanium (the paid version) go into the app and press the backup all apps + data option. This will copy everything. Once you wipe and reinstall a ROM go back into Titanium and press restore all apps +data. Pretty much simple as that
Thanks man!!! That indeed is not to difficult!

[Q] Installing new apps or even restoring has become impossible.

I am fairly new to all of this but feel I have a firm grasp of things. Having said that, I have lost the ability go install apps from any source. My backups are just files and the market is juat for window shopping. Please help me... Oh yeah, already flashed 2 different ROMs to try to start fresh with no luck.

Could you be more specific what isn't working now that was working before? How are you trying to install apps? from .apks on the phone or by sideloading? Can you load apps from the market? What did you use to create backups?
Best way to start fresh is to flash to stock, and start over. Whats ROMs have you been running?
what isn't working
First off I'm on ROM 3 and I flashed to stock first. Anyways it asks if I want to install an app I click ok and get the action bar bug it never finishes. I've tried from the market and from my SD card. My backups were made with Titanium Backup.
Thank you for your time.

What is ROM 3?
You didn't explain which way you are trying to install an app before the bug happens. All ways?
To be 1000% honest, you're starting to sound like a customer... I'm phone support for a major cable/internet company, and when I ask what's wrong, and it can't be articulated, I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG.
Feel free to PM me for help or ask in this thread.
If your phone is not right, then flash to stock and start over. What is ROM 3?

[Q] How to restore previous downlaoded apps?

Hi I've been flashing different ROMs for some time now and it's quite irritating that I have to redownload all the apps that I've installed with the previous ROM after flashing the new one. So I would like to know if there is anyway that I can just flash a new rom and do a restore of the apps I downloaded? And if I can, how? or you can direct me to another link, I'll be very much appreciative.

Use Titanium Backup or My Backup Root to backup your apps and restore them.
Try the appbrain market app https://market.android.com/details?id=com.appspot.swisscodemonkeys.apps
Rerware's MyBackupPro seems to be the best solution for doing exactly what you are looking for, in a very simple way.
It goes to the extent of even backing up your home screen layout, app settings etc in one click.
If you need a little more complicity, Titanium backup would help.
My money is always on MyBackupPro, give it a shot am sure you''ll find it easy and convenient
Thanks for the replies! I'll definitely try them out!
