Google Reader - iPhone version works well in Opera Mobile - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

For any Google Reader fans out there, I've found that the iPhone version works well in Opera Mobile (using build 1622).
The address is http://www.google.com/reader/i/ - enjoy!

hero! thanx

this is cool ! there are lots of "iPhone specific" sites that work well on Opera Mobile, shame the site owners advertise it as "iphone"

Cool, could you list some examples?
Thx!

Great tip:>
Others I know about that work well:
http://iphone.facebook.com
http://www.tvguide.co.uk/iphone/ (UK listings for all channels)
http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/iphone/sports/ US sports results, filtered by sport at the top.
http://i.wund.com/ Weather site, yeah we have a cool weather gizzmo already, but this one has satellite maps and all sorts.

skyfire beta

"Skyfire is a free, downloadable mobile browser that delivers rich web media, real fast."
You cant use it without an account, as far as I know.
No u cant. it wont let u access much of anything
I can confirm that it doesn't work either unless you're already registered and accepted into the beta team of skyfire. It's pretty much a waste of space too bad, i would have really liked to see this puppy in action.
I have been using it and I really like it. It is very fast, even for me in a non 3G environment. The user interface is simple. the only real issue I have is the book marks. I cannot figure out how to delete bookmarks you don't want any more! there is very little in the way of tweaks. I wrote a review with a ton of screen shots here: http://tiltsite.com/2008/03/skyfire-my-initial-impression/
is this java app???

No, it's not Java based.
It is pretty quick and looks great, but seems kind of sluggish on my device when viewing videos, which makes it in my opinion no better then opera mini if not able to watch videos smoothly. Anyone else had this problem? Damn HTC, they really need to get their act together and fix graphics acceleration on these devices!
Is there no way to activate this?
I tried the cab but it doesn't work.
Must say Skyfire looks for very promising.
what is its benefits??
It's looking good, only check this
Only available in the US.
Hi Ron,
Thank you for your interest in Skyfire, we do have plans to introduce our product internationally. It’s just going to take us a little time to get there and we ask for your patience.
Here's an update on where we are with the beta:
On February 8th, we began to release the Skyfire beta 0.5 on Windows Mobile phones in the U.S. To give you a sense of our product roadmap, after Windows Mobile, we will support the Symbian platform in the U.S. – starting with Nokia N-Series and E-series phones. It will take us several months before we support both Windows and Symbian phones in the U.S. In that same timeframe, we will be rolling out support for Skyfire in Europe and Asia.
As soon as we support your phone in your region, we will notify you by email. In the meantime, to stay up to date about what’s happening here, you can read our blog. You can also refer to our FAQ.
The Skyfire Team
I signed up on the Skyfire website back in January and haven't received an email.
I forgot when I signed up for the beta but i finally got the email last week. Skyfire is still missing a lot of features. True it does load a lot faster than anthing else I've had on Edge Network.
Some of the most obvious feature missing is the Tabbed Browsing capability. You can only be at one website at a time and although it streams mp3s off the website almost flawlessly, Videos play almost as if it were just GIF images (sometimes & depending on the speed it will play a little bit better) well I do have to take into consideration that I have a tilt
Even though it has its advantages I still find that Opera Browser is still better than skyfire so far. Maybe in their official releases they will include a lot more features
Still waiting for my invite...
I emailed Skyfire to check on the status of my invite and got this :
Thanks for your enthusiasm and interest in Skyfire. We cannot specifically tell you when you will be receiving your beta invitation. You are registered in phase 1 of the beta and we will notify you by email and by SMS as soon as there is room for you in the beta program. Please ensure that when you signed up for the beta you entered the mobile phone number you want to download Skyfire on. We need that mobile phone number to notify you when it’s your turn to download. Rest assured, no one in beta 2 will receive their invitation to download until all beta 1 users have been invited into the program.
As reminder, first we are supporting Windows Mobile phones in the U.S. After Windows Mobile, we will support the Symbian platform in the U.S. – starting with Nokia N-Series and E-series phones. This could take a couple of months as we continue development and testing. For all you Blackberry, Palm and Linux users, we hear you, but know the wait will be longer. For our friends in Europe, Asia and around the world, we are working as hard as we can to roll out the service internationally. We ask for just a little patience. We are a small team after all.
To stay up to date about what’s happening here, you can read our blog. You can also refer to our FAQ.
Thanks,
The Skyfire Team
So I'm verified by them to be in 'Beta 1' ...but still no luck yet....
I also signed up but have not recieved an email. I tried logging into the skyfire website and it says that my email isn't even in there? WTF skyfire?
I have been using sky fire for s few weeks now. it is very nice. my favorite part is i can stream audio and video over the media net and not have to use the ATT isp (where i cant get MMS and email) so i am very happy with it. it is ok fast and easy to use.

I had this same e-mail, but finally got my text last week. I will agree that it definitely loads up very quick over wifi, haven't tried it on edge because I cancelled my unlimited plan b/c ATT charges an arm and a leg. Like others I have no problem streaming mp3's or videos, but it just isn't smooth when watching videos, someone was exactly right a couple posts up when they said it was like watching a gif. It only runs a few frames a second for me, on youtube, nhl.com, gametrailers.com, etc. Imo, opera mini still takes the cake. I think once (if) the video driver business gets straightened out and v1.0 is released from skyfire, this will be a great browser.
my understanding is that Skyfire renders the page on the server and streams that to the client in a compressed format. It's the same as Opera and that is how they circumvent Flash video issues.
Honestly, I'm not that impressed with Skyfire, but I don't live on my phone. I usually am just checking the weather and email.

Any good programs for TD to monitor the stock market.

I saw this really cool bloomberg application on iphone that can generate nice plots for various stocks with different timelines and have company details and news. Are there any program that is similar to that bloomberg App on PPC, in particularly on the Touch diamond? I have been doing some stock trading lately, so i am quite interested to know. Thanks for the info in advance..

1800PocketPC.com -- What do you guys think ?

Hi fellas
I have a windows mobile site 1800PocketPC.com, its just over a year old. I was wondering if you guys have heard of it ?
We usually post about freewares and the latest hardware news about windows mobile. We dont have a forum for people to hang out coz we think as long as xda-devs and ppcgeeks are there why would anyone need a forum for windows mobile. I was hoping to get some constructive criticism about the site and ways we can improve the site.
You can also subscribe to our RSS ot Twitter
I know your site for some time and it´s very good, I like the format (exept for a narrower line of adds on the right)
Congrats!
I go all the time
I really like the site,
only thing is you could be be a little bit more "selective" or "picky"
At least what I think this could be "Pearls and beauty" of xda-developers.com for the average guy.
- I really like the category style!
- The Wallpaper stuff: Naaaahh I think you will catch some fishes with this but is it really needed? I think it makes the site look a bit cheap.
- RSS and twitter is great: every Headline was a hit so far (well some exeptions but I think beauty is in the eye of the beholder).
- Customisable rss and twitter by categorys and user would be the ultimate I think (but this would almost need the power of a socialnetwork)
- You are already on the top scores of google! (at least when I search for something)
- You can discover the real beauty of google translator when visiting your site Microfi Nitrogen -> Microfi Stickstoff (Germans get the joke)
but besides of the jokes it can be really usefull.
- I can´t test right now but have you checked "freedom from barriers"? The new "touchscreen generation" of phones might be great for handicapped persons. Would also be great to have a rating system for them as well.
So far really great
THX for this site
thanks for the kind words fellas.
@ moesfeld : Customisable rss and twitter by categorys is a great idea, I will look in to getting it done in the near future.
I am in the dark about "freedom from barriers" , do you have any links from where I can read more regarding this ?
Hi sajio,
You have really done a great job with the site, i actually am now quite addicted to your site to catch on the software which i miss on XDA. So keep up the good work and i hope with all the frequent updates and personal attention, you have made it full of valuable resources. What i think is keep your site fresh alway like you do now, and you would not need anything additional.
Regards
Sharif Ansari

Well it pretty much depends on what cms you use. Many have the "accessability for disabled" already inbuild.
I found the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
Also I found the Web Accessibility Toolbar that lets you check if you meet the guidelines.
I know your site a while ago, and I like very much.
Keep it up
I go there @ll the time nice job!
thanks guys
i love it and subscribe to rss for it. thanks for you hard work.
you are welcome

Augmented Reality news...

Layar has just been put on the Market.
A new augmented reality app like wikitude but with more scope (from what I can see).
Both very cool and great to show Android nay sayers that your Hero is bloody ace
bloody brilliant thanks this will shutup some iphone lovers.
Got it.
Its showing sod all up here but that's because there is sod all up here. Off to Greece followed by Amsterdam in September and then Vancouver in Feb 2010. I'm going to hammer this app.
I think there are plans for more layers in the app - most are Netherlands based.
The Layar search is the most useful being driven by Google.
Wikipedia works to a certain degree but Wikitude shows far more points of interest.
Very promising technology though.
Great app. Could do with a few more users. As much as I like it not been on the iPhone we might need it to be on it as the more users the better

Ah but we got it first
I've had a play around with it this morning, it's pretty cool.
I have been bragging about it to my iPhone friends, they're not too pleased!
Wikipedia entry keeps loading...
indeed very nice app!
But my problem is that if I use wikipedia layer and try to open a wikipedia entry, I just get a white screen with Loading... on top, but it does not appear. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
solved
yep, this seemed to be a related problem to the facebook and flickr login problems

Local bible app?

Hey guys -
I was wondering is there a bible app that does not use the internet. It is a WIFI only Xoom and my church does not have an open WIFI.
All the ones I have tried from the market are not formatted for the tablet, and also use an internet connection.
Thanks.
I use Bible by Youversion.
While you're on WiFi, just download the version you use to your XOOM so you can use it anywhere.
You could also use www.acrobible.com

I use the NIV Bible from Tecarta. It works well on the tablet and has good navigation, but it crashes occasionally. The Bible from YouVersion is also good, as mentioned above, but the navigation is not as user friendly.
I use tecarta nasb. Works perfectly for me but it does cost money

Thanks guys..
I have NewVersion I just need to download it directly for offline access. I never knew that.
I cannot log in though, for some reason it does not allow me to input any information for log in. It's just blank. Can some one confirm they are able to log into the software?
Olivetree has a program called Biblereader that is the Cadillac of Bible programs on mobile platforms. The program itself is free, but the various versions cost money. The versions are portable to other mobile platforms, and there are tons of additional resources that are supported in program. The current android version is one major revision behind iOS, but they are working on releasing a new one soon.
All in all, it is one of the best study tools out there on any platform. Check it out.

Will do, I am running into issues with YouVersion.
I use the Barnes & Noble Nook app, and you can get any version of the bible, (N.I.V., King James. Etc...) for about a buck. Has chapters, works off-line, can highlight, annotate, bookmark, lookup words) even does the little page flip like on the iPad, love it.

A little off topic
I've been trying to get the people at globible.com to add the android tablet platform. Very cool Bible app and the more people requesting it the more likely they will push development.
I am not a huge Olive Tree fan but it if probably the best offline Bible. I read that they recently updated the reader so I should give it another try. I have in my Kindle app, too, but find the YouVersion app has the best search feature.
I love youVersions bible. Tons of translations. I bounce around KJV and NIV during study, sometimes KJV is a little over my head.
If you go into the list of translations there is a green button on the right to download to the device locally.
I attend a pretty old fashioned baptist church, and get some pretty interesting looks from the older folks when I break out the tab
Glad to see so many other Christians on here as well, it's exciting.
Edit:
I got a little excited and didn't read the whole thread. But I saw one or two people say something about youVersion and logging in.
Even though it doesn't show your email or passwords in the field, they are in fact being input. Just be careful and you should be able to login without issue. It took me 2 or 3 tries to get the UN and PW right.

Yeah after playing around I finally got un and pw to work correctly.. :-D
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I'm working on a Honeycomb optimized bible and note taking app and I could use testers and people to bounce ideas off of.
I love youversion on my phone, but I can't stand it on my tablet. So I figured this would be a cool way to learn a bit about Fragments and just expand my knowledge in general.
Thread is here. I'd love any feedback.
I checked it out!
Thanks!
"ESV Bible" (free) and "LiveBible" (also free) support offline viewing. While offline is the default for ESV, you will need to download the texts for LiveBible first.
