I have a bricked herald an I hope that I can Flash the ROm with a SD card.
In some posts I find someting about flashing the ROM with an (Micro) SD card. Can anyone tell me what files I have to put on the SD card and is it correct I have to hold the camera button while pressing the power button?
Thanks

take the .nbh file and rename it HERAIMG.nbh. Make sure that your device is HardSPL'd (thats the key).

First of all THANKS!!!. I hope it works but till now it runs through bootloader without chenking the sd card.
I am not sure that my device is HardSPL'd. How do I do that withour activesync features?
i read your other thread. It seems your device is NOT hardSPL'd, but it is also below the requirements of hardSPL (SPL/IPL of more than 4).
I suggest you refer your question to papamopps or some of the more proficient people.
In the other thread, i suggested that you use the RUU for your device. Do that, and wait for Papamopps response about HardSPL-ing with an SPL under 4. Actually, ivan might know too....

There was a problem with people flashing a ROM from their SD card and it turned out to be the SD card itself. You have to have an SDHC card and either have it partitioned or use a small one like a 128mb card because with bigger sd cards, the device doesn't have time to read the whole card . Personally I used a 128mb card and it worked fine.
i suppose you mean "not an SDHC card"
i have a 512 and it works. If you somehow get your device HardSPL'd, be patient when you try to flash using SD. It takes a long time (longer than you expect. You'll know what i mean when you try it).

Thanks for the info
err, u dont need a sd card though.
u can just flash it from the computer.
xorphan, as imatrix said, you don't actually need an SD card to upgrade. I thought what you thought too - probably because you read the documentation. It does suggest that you need one but I can tell you that I've just done mine without it.
Have fun
you can't flash on the computer with a 4gig SD in the slot
Hi. My Windows computer is on it's last leg; I'm not sure if it will be able to run long enough for me to flash a ROM and I don't want my phone to break. Which brings me to my question:
Can you install ROMs from the Storage Card?
Thanks.
your device must be HardSPL'd.
for the Herald, drag the .nbh file to the root of the card after renaming it HERAIMG.nbh.
SDHC cards are not compatible, and the larger the partition that the .nbh is on (usually the main one), the longer it will take to flash.
Be patient. You will think that something has gone wrong, but nothing has. It takes a really really really long time (like 10-15 mins)(for real, not like the RUU)
is it better?
is it better to flash it to the sd carD?

Your not quite flashing it to the sd card, the sd card acts as the img file needed for the phone to accept the flash. Another thing is to make sure the sd card is formatted fat32. Personally I have a 1gb card that I partitioned down to 100mb formatted fat32 for my flashing needs
its not necessarily better or worse to flash it from the sd, its just useful if your device doesnt feel like connecting for some reason.
thanks! i appreciate the quick response.

will it work if it's formatted fat16? how long do you think it would take for a 2gb card (1 partition) to flash a rom?
thanks,

I'm trying to flash my HD with a custom rom.
I save the om image file in the root of my sd card with name: blacimg.nbh
I turn power off, press volume down and turn power on!
The HD always say: No image file, and it goes to bootloader (tricolor screen).
I flash it using my pc with no problem, but i prefer to flash it by SD card.
What am i doing wrong?
Any help please.
Try renaming to BLACIMG.NBH
I think that will help
If you have named the file correctly BLACIMG.NBH and still doesn't work then your memory card is not compatible. Some memory cards work while some don't. No problems with Sandisk here.
I've already tried with: BLACIMG.NBH, blacimg.nbh or BLACIMG.nbh
Always the same.
The card is the one that come with my HD. A Transcend MicroSD HC 8gb.
Try to change sd, i have the same problem, and same sd, after change, work wery well. Coincidence?
Ok, I have the same problem and I find solution. SD card should be formated in FAT32. You can format it on your PC card reader.
P.S. and don't forget backup your card before formatting!
My SD is already in fat32.
Same problem with me... with the file in the root and tried with all different names and still doesn't work.
But the strangest thing about it is that the first time I tried, it worked perfectly!
My card is also a Transcend HC 8gb
Transcend sd card is the problem try a sandisk or an another
I tried to flash it with another SD.
I used a 2gb Kingston.
Same thing: Image not file, and got to bootloader !!!
Compra um Sandisk 8GB SDHC e acaba-se esses problemas... Também os tive com o Transcend de origem e com o Kingston.
The only way without problems is... Sandisk
u are using USPL when flashing via PC?

Right, with HSPL even a fake 8GB Sandisk Made in China can do thi simple flash, I hate open the cover to Reset, though.
Does anyone know how to format the SD from within the HD?
With Resco Explorer per example... but is better format in FAT32 in PC with a card adaptor...
hi guys i try to flash my hd from sd too and it found nbh file on white screen it write loading and then stay like that can someone help
I have same problem with 1Gb PNY. (FAT32 formated)
With my 8Gb Sandisk, it is the same.
I precise that this is stock ROM. No HPL done yet.
Can we avoid HPL with SD card rom flash ?
-------------------
Solution : I just got it.
If I use the USPL first, then everything goes fine !
SD card ROM flash works only if HSPL or USPL has been used.
BlackstoneCustomRuu.exe has to be on your sd-card, along with blacimg.nbh

Hey guys, i've got a 8gb Apacer card. I've installed successfully the HardSPL (it shows Olinex's name), i've downloaded Smaberg's latest rom, which is already renamed. I'm taking off the battery and then putting it back, i'm pressing the volume down key and at the same time the power button. It takes me to the 3 color screen but it stays stuck to "Serial" which is written down on the 3 color screen.
Am i doing something wrong?
Bill
Which is the filesystem of your SD Card?
Have you renamed the ROM with this name: kovsimg.nbh?

I formatted it with FAT32,
Yup ROM is already renamed to kovsimg.nbh
Can't understand why it stucks to 3 color screen when it says down to the screen "Serial".
U not press volume down long enough
start again
I pressed it for 3 minutes and still stucks to serial screen.
Is the nbh file at the SDcard root?
Yeah it is. I have some other files too at sd root, does it messing up the things?

Just did it but no luck, still the same issue!
I've had the same problem. Formatted my 2Gb a dozen of timeswith my laptop and it didn't function. Finally I formatted the card with another PC at the office and now everything works as planned.
So, not every format is the same??
Just tried to flash a rom with another SD 2gb and worked fine!
What the heck is going on with my devilish 8gb card...the card is working great but no flashing...maybe i'll have to find another computer too to format it.

Are you sure of you???
Because I have a Kingston 8Gb SDHC card and I use it for flashing my phone with SDcard method when I can't flash it with my PC...
Where is your original 8gb card guys? Did you change it for a reason?
Sorry but the 8GB is not included with every Xperia, at least not in every country.
My german operator send it without sd card, I had to buy my own one.
So I think this may differ from country to country or provider.
I had the same problem, could not flash it with SD card method, tried it via PC (USB), also no success and tried it again with SD method and tried it for like 10-15 times and then all of a sudden it worked.
I tried putting hard-spl on there again, while I knew it was on there already, even this did not work and started working after some tries and then I was able to do the SD method.
I have a sandisk 8GB mem card, so it's probably not brand related..
We have the Kovsimg.nbh, how do we create the ROMUpdateUtility.exe?
Hello guys,
After this huge problem i've got http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517752 (i can't flash any rom with the 8GB card) and we couldn't find a solution, i'm asking if there is a way to convert the Kosvimg.nbh file to ROMUpdateUtility.exe file so i can flash the ROMs through the PC?
Looking forward to heard the good news! It's too pitty everyday to read about these new ROMs and i can't flash them!

Just put the ROMUpdateUtility and the NBH file in the same folder and run it, it will flash whatever NBH file is in the same folder as it. If you need the RUU exe, just extract it from a shipped ROM using WinRar. Or use this Custom RUU : http://rapidshare.com/files/164933503/X1_CustomRUU.zip
Please don't create new threads for existing issues.

Which file did you rename to blacimg.nbh (that's correct and not blackimg.nbh)? Did you save it to the root of the sd card as suggested (although mine is in a folder and this also works)? Because the steps you are describing are correct and should work (work like that for me). The only thing I can think is that there is possibly something wrong with the file you are using. Is it one of your own cooked roms?

faced the same prob long time ago with a old 4 Gb card...no matter what i've did was not able to flash. However I sugest to reformat your sd card (FAT 32 and not on your pc/laptop, do it with your phone) and then try again after formating, altough it may not help. to be sure that you are not doing wrong try another SD card if possible.
Another option to check your self is flashing with ActiveSync after formating.
Good Luck
p.s. It seems this is happening often if you used your SD card in another device
I'd a similar problem while flashing on my old P3300
To avoid the problem, I'm using a 1gb micro sd dedicate only to rom flashing but with a single partition of 256MB.
dunno if this could help u
cheers
I was having exactly same problem today when I tried to flash - mine's 8gb mini SD which came as a part of package from Orange, U.K.. I ended up using normal USB cable but I was wondering why it didn't work...

Fashing with some big SD >4gb could generate some issue. Use one small dedicated to that and format it first in Fat32.
Hi Carl, thanks for your advice - it actually worked like a charm. I didn't really thing 8gb would cause this problem. I used just a plain 2gb ScanDisk card, formatted in Fat 32 and put only blacimg.nbh following normal procedures - thank you very much again!
My 2 cents
I had a similar problem not long ago with my 8Gb Micro SD that came with the card. I'd re-formatted it via the PC and altered the default settings based on a thread I read on here which was supposed to speed up access to the card. If I remember correctly it was changing the default allocation size.
Long story short, reformatted back to default settings and I was able to flash again from SD. IMO it's moreso the format of the card, not so much it's size as I never had a problem with flashing from card before tweaking it's format settings.
SD Card
I always flash from my SD card.
My latest card is a 16Gb class4 SanDisk, and I must have flashed more than 50 times from this. I always put my blacimg.nbh file in the root of the card.
Size of the card is not important, it just have to be formated in FAT32.
There are several reports that some brands of card do not work very well with Windows Mobile.
One time I purchased a Kingston card that simply would not work.
