So I'm a ROM junkie and I flash whenever I can. I found out late that I didn't need to purchase software to get the Tilt to do what I wanted i.e. Weather Items, Today Items, Contact Photo Dialer etc. So I purchased alot of the SPB software and since I bought it I'm going to use it. The problem I have is everytime I flash it I have to redo the registration info. I use Sleuth's UC so I don't have to do most of the setup but all Registration Numbers are a pain. I was hoping they were registry values but I can't seem to find them....
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated....
Thanks
What you can do is use Wince Cab Manager and pre-reg it through the registry so that you don't have to do each time; save changes to the cab and you should be good to go.
Use SKtracker before and after registration to find the keys affected.
Then add those keys to the cab.
I use SAMASHI instead of UC as it's fairly easy to automate and can be run at any time. To get the SPB Registration codes I installed the unregistered apps once and then use CeRegEditor to take a snapshot of the registry. Then enter the registration codes then do a compare. You'll find that most SPB apps add a registry key to the CLASSES_ROOT. At least I know that Mobile Shell, Backup and PocketPlus do.
As CrazyC says SKTRACKER works but it's another app to pay for. CeRegEditor is free.
It's SASHIMI, lol. I use it to and it works GREAT. I would go ahead and use the SKtracker because it does make things easier.
Thanks Alot
Thanks all....gotta love this website....

The free one, CeRegEditor (runs on your PC) doesn't do file compares, only the registry, where as the pay for one, SKtracker (runs on the PPC) does both, which makes it a great snapshot tool, as some apps don't just store such info in the registry.

Downloaded WM5 Pocket Mechanic Professional 2.61.204 and tried to install on my MDA and I keep receiving that it is not a valid PPC application? I have unzipped it and tried various versions to no success.
Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.
Did you tried running the setup on your PC instead of Wizard? Many PPC software requires installation from PC.

I was hoping that someone would not come back with that answer. I cannot use ActiveSync and have had problems since 09/2006 and cannot connect using ActiveSync. So, normally I download all CAB files and install directly from my MDA. I have tried everything to get ActiveSync to work. I have spent many hours using and trying all suggestions posted on this and other forums to no avail.
So, if PocketMechanic does not have a CAB file, I am not going to be able to use/install it.
Thank you very much for your reply and time. I greatly appreciate it. I guess I will try to use SKTOOLS.
Thanks again STARKWONG!!!
I just checked, and pocket mechanic does have a cab file installation version. Maybe you just downloaded the desktop installer by accident. Try redownloading the cab file version and try installing it again.

Thank you for your response. I did find the CAB file version of PocketMechanic. I downloaded V 2.61.204 Trial Version and just my luck the Trail Version expired. So I will continue to search. This is where I obtained the TV:

Did you already have a trial version of Pocket Mechanic installed on it before? If you did, then it won't matter which trial version you try because once the 30 days is done with on the first version you installed your 30 days are done on all of them. The only way to get another 30 days worth of trial is to do a hard reset on your phone and then install it again.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my posting. No, I have never installed PM before. I would not do a hard reset as I have too many other applications that I would have to reinstall. I gues I will just call this a 'write-off.'
I greatly appreciate your time and knowledge.

Thank you for your information. No, I have never installed or tried to install a version of PM on my MDA. I would not do a hard reset as I have to many applications on my MDA to reinstall. Yes, I could do a restore, but I don't believe it is worth the effort. I use SKTools (free version) and that will suffice my needs for now.
Thanks again, I greatly appreciate your time and knowledge.

If you've never had it installed on your phone, I'm not sure why it would tell you that the trial had expired, it shouldn't. I just downloaded the newest version and put it on my wizard and didn't have any problem. It still had 30 days left on the trial. What tools that pocket mechanic has are you looking for? I may be able to help you find freeware versions that work just as well.

I just like to try different software. I am online a lot and do a lot of searching for new/different apps. I am tired of sinking money into apps and then finding out they do not live up to their overviews.
Examples of some are SPB Weather, Traveler and Finance. Weather is off by 4 - 5 degrees, Traveler looses the weather when you do a soft reset, Finance is not compatible with Quicken 2007. I have a lot of sw loaded on my MDA and constantly look for better apps. I will post a list of what I do have and use later today.
So, with PM, it was a matter of comparing it to SKTools. I do use SKToolsLite as it is free. I also use SKTools and only get the 6 results.
I do appreciate your time and help.

Since you've never tried pocket mechanic before, maybe you mistook how it opens as the trial being over. When it first opens, it plays an alarm bell sound and shows you a page that says Notice at the top, if you read it it tells you how many days you have left in the trial, then when you click close it pops up another page that asks you for the serial number and if you click close again it will let you access all of the modules.
If you're looking for a really good weather program, try Weather Panel. Just go to this thread to check it out - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=307781. By the way, most weather apps get their info from the closest weather station to your location so if it's off by 4 to 5 degrees it's propbably not that close. Also, the difference between the temp in the city and the temp in a very close rural area can easily be 4 to 5 degrees different, sometimes even more.
As for finance software, sorry, can't help you there. My entire finance method is keeping track of things in my head and an occasional checking of my account online to make sure I didn't lose track.

You still ca install most of the progs which come only with a PC installer even without Activesync being able to sync.
Just install the app, at the end it will tell you the software will be transferred the next time you do activesync.
Now the trick
The installer has created a folder with the required CAB files.
Either directly under "Programm files" or under "programm files\microsoft activesync"
Just pick the CAB and put it on your HTC

Hi,
I hope you can help me
I am trying to find a Notes application that can have photo inside the notes ...
Even better, if I can do something like this :
- Open (or create new) notes
- Type something (creating text)
- Snap a photo and the photo is inserted into the notes
- Type something again ...
- Save the notes
Well, that's fine if it cannot use the camera, but at least it can load image file.
I cant find an application like this ...
I like taking photo of a meal in a restaurant and make notes about it
Thanks.
NICE!
Hey- great idea for a Notes app! Personally, I don't think I would use it the way you do, but that is a great idea. Sorry, I haven't seen anything like that available though.
Hey there,
Its not free, but I use the mobile partner of MS One Note which does exactly as your suggesting - text notes, direct access to the camera (and attaching photos) and access to the voice recorder. IMHO, it should really be included as part of the mobile office suite!

Have a search for Microsoft OneNote Mobile, It will do everything you asked.
If you have Office 2007 on your PC it will offer to install this on 1st Activesync/WMDC connection to your device.
I'm sure I have seen a cab floating around here somewhere.
Interesting, I dont mind commercial app (I bought all apps that I use in my Kaiser anyway).
However, I use Office 2003 already.
It would be too much if I must buy Office 2007 just to get the OneNote ...
Found the .cab
The build version is 12.0.4518.1014
Is this from Office 2007?
On my device the Mobile build version is 12.0.4518.1010. This came with my UK Office 2007 Home and Student version.
Nice application, this is exactly the application that I was looking for
However, one thing that I dont like, there is no option to store the data into the "Storage Card" !!!
I am not sure if there is a registry hack for this, but storing OneNote images can be quite costly in terms of space
And this tricks below dont work with the onenote cab !
Make WM5 ask where to install a program (1)
If you wish to be able to specify whether to install a program on WM5's Main storage, or your Storage Card, regardless of installer setting set:
HKLM\Software\apps\Microsoft Application Installer\fAskDest = 1 (DWORD decimal)
To disable again:
HKLM\Software\apps\Microsoft Application Installer\fAskDest = 0 (DWORD decimal)
Please note that many applications do not support being installed on the Storage Card and may behave unpredictably, including crashing.
Make WM5 ask where to install a program (2)
An alternative method of making WM5 ask where to install a program is by adding the "/askdest" option to the Windows CE loader:
HKCR\cabfile\Shell\open\command = 'wceload.exe "%1" /askdest' (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
I was browsing a thread on Modaco (probably this one, maybe this one) and there was an application to remove entries from the today screen item list and it mentions that this could save memory or something (not really why I want to do it - it's mostly because there are piles on my machine and I will never use most of them and I can't uninstall them (some are plugins for an app I use, others I just can't uninstall)).
I don't really want to permanantly remove these items and would want to back them up, but it would be nice if there was a program which was able to relocate the registry keys somewhere else.
If not, I don't mind doing it manually. I assume that I shall need to mess with
HKLM > Software > Microsoft > Today > Items
but if someone can post the details of anything else I need to remember it would be appreciated.
I think that is the only way to do it. Maybe you could make a shortcut directly to "Today" applet so it is a quicker to access?
What you were reading may have been about UltimateLauncher.
It allows you to scroll through multiple tabs of desktops, each one customized with their own Today plugins. What it can do is "Deactivate" whatever plugin is not active. This causes a slight delay when moving between tabs as the plugin is reloaded. However I tried with and without this feature and it only seemed to save 2-3% of my RAM (w/ HTC Home, SPB Weather, MS Live, and one or two smaller ones).
The plugins are disabled on the today screen and I do not often use them. I therefore want to remove their listings as they mostly just get in the way.
The plugins installed include....
Stuff I actually use
SPB Phone Suite
SPB Weather
Pocket Plus
Battery Status
GPRS Monitor
Calendar +
Stuff I might conceivably use
Windows Live
Skype
The following just get in the way on the Pocket Plus "Add to tab" option and on the today item list. I just don't need them there but might eventually need to put them back if a related program complains they are missing.
Standard WM6 I don't use and probably won't ever use
Date
Calendar
Messaging
Tasks
Owner Info
Device Lock
Mobile shell plugins I don't use
SPB Mobile Shell
Home Tab (Mobile Shell)
Time Tab (Mobile Shell)
Weather Tab (Mobile Shell)
Dial Tab (Mobile Shell)
Dial Tab 2 (Mobile Shell)
Dial Tab 3 (Mobile Shell)
Other items which just came installed and I can't de-install
Shortcuts
Running Apps
Meters
Last Call
Windows Live Search
Hence the problem, and I don't think it was related to Ultimate Launcher as the program looked older than that.
So, I'm not sure where the Today applet gets its list...but it is either looking in a folder or in the registry. (I'm sure someone can chime in with the appropriate location)
So, if it is looking in a folder, simply move the items you don't want to a subfolder so it doesn't populate them in the list.
If they are in a reg entry, export the reg entry and then delete the keys. That way you can import the reg entry if you need them again.
As far as I know i have not seen any program that will remove them from showing up as choices.
Also, as far as uninstalling programs that you don't want. Sometimes, though not always you can find a cab of the application you want to remove. Then, install the cab on top of the existing one, so it shows up in add/remove programs and then remove it, thus removing the application. This trick worked on removing some apps from my PPC6700 before I knew how to unlock the ROM.
Alternatively you can open up the cab and find what files and reg entries are used and manually delete them.
I'd recommend using dot fred task manager or CeRegistryEditor to backup \HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items and go ahead and delete whatever you don't like.
If you want to go the extra step, you can also delete the .DLL file as specified in each key. -- Don't delete the DLLs used for the Mobile Shell today plug-ins, as they may be shared with other SPB applications.
FWIW, this isn't temporarily disabling your today plug-ins. It's as close as you can get to deleting them, without deleting the whole application.
Hope this helps.
You might want to give this a try too... (Just found it while answering another thread)

I am new to this forum and have seen a lot of tweaks here that could improve the performance. I have a Diamond but do not know how to tweak i.e. where do I go on the phone to get into regedit mode. I know on my PC and Laptop, I have to go to 'Run' and type 'regedit' and press 'enter' to get in to the registry editor. How can I do the same on the Diamond? Pease help.
Registry editor
You need a registry editing program. There are a number of third party programs available. One of the simplest is included in _Total Commander_ a file manager which includes a registry editor. There are also a number of free standing editors, at least one of which is free. Check this forum for threads.

Omnia2MessagingAppMgr v1.0
Hi Friends,
Got my shiny new OmniaPro B7610 3 days ago. Great phone I must say. But I find the Samsung's own messaging app bit too restrictive for me. Plus, on my WM 6.1 stock ROM, phone hang many times after selecting to add contact from phonebook. On the Internet, i found a few registry entries that can enable the default messaging app, but due to the way Samsung has designed its MMS application, you cannot use MMS functionality if you use the default messaging application.
Now, MMS is not something people use everyday AFAIK. So I decided to write a small utility around the above mentioned registry entries to make this process easy. So, here it is, my app, Omnia2MessagingAppMgr, for all of you. It allows to quickly switch between the two applications without the hassle of digging into registry every time. I've been using this for 1.5 days, and its doing its job fine. But as there is always scope for improvement, your suggestions are welcome.
Since writing to privileged registry areas from .NET CF apps requires signing the app with a digital certificate (paid or the SDK ones) and then install those on the users device, i skipped the process. I instead have used the excellent Task Manager / Registry editor by DotFred available here. I hope he wont have any problem with this, as I am not selling this for monetary gains. But if he has, by any chance, he can contact me in this thread and I will remove this app and recode it.
Cheers!
Nice! I will try it later today

hey thanks i alwaysgo tothe registry to do this manually and well i was abou to create the app to do it thanks!
@charly_mx: My pleasure. Actually the registry path is a bit cumbersome as first you need to go and change the value and then kill tmail.exe and restart messaging. This app makes it easy by doing these two tasks. Good for someone who do it in routine.
@all: BTW, I am thinking of adding the functionality to enable default windows contact suggestion and t9 dictionary when the default messaging app is enabled. I'm thinking of giving a checkbox for this. Any views on this guys?
Thanks alot
Hi! Sumit
can you please add some more functionality to ur app for switching the messaging app in omnia
I would like to use quick switch buttons for--
*default settings visible/hide
*disabling samsung dialer
*enable/disable touchviz
*soft reset
Hope you would entertain this request & develop something for us
Thanks
Yeah! Thanx, very useful app, thx a lot!
Well you can always change it manually in win mo...
