How to use regedit to twaek the Diamond?? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

I am new to this forum and have seen a lot of tweaks here that could improve the performance. I have a Diamond but do not know how to tweak i.e. where do I go on the phone to get into regedit mode. I know on my PC and Laptop, I have to go to 'Run' and type 'regedit' and press 'enter' to get in to the registry editor. How can I do the same on the Diamond? Pease help.

Registry editor
You need a registry editing program. There are a number of third party programs available. One of the simplest is included in _Total Commander_ a file manager which includes a registry editor. There are also a number of free standing editors, at least one of which is free. Check this forum for threads.
anson

read wiki about diamond tweaks there are plenty

Thanks
Thank you very much ansonr and xdaking for your feedback.

2 Questions

1st, how do you clear the recent programs that appear when you click the start button?
2nd. can somebody explain to me what you do to edit a registry. download the editer to my pc but then what?
Please use the forums search function. I found a few posts relating to clearing the recent used programs in the start menu. Look at this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=325396&highlight=clear+recent+programs
There are programs that run on your pocketpc to edit the registry, Resco Registry Editor, for example.
Search for "ClearTemp".
o.k., found cleartemp, works good, but anybody else for my second question?
I already answered your second question. You can get a registry editor like Resco Editor in either cab or exe form. If its a cab, copy it to your phone and install. If its an exe, activesync to your phone and then run the exe on your computer to install it.
last2kno, do i install the reg editor to the phone and use it there or leave it on the computer and edit the phone that way?
Ramsport your sig is perfect!
Edit: Here is a tip from a web surfing pro! Get Google toolbar, then whenever you see someone say something you dont know or mention a name of a program or a term. Highlight the words in question > right click > Search Google for "XXXX"
You will get answers to your questions in seconds, rather then waiting for a response, hours or days.

SPB Registration Info for UC

So I'm a ROM junkie and I flash whenever I can. I found out late that I didn't need to purchase software to get the Tilt to do what I wanted i.e. Weather Items, Today Items, Contact Photo Dialer etc. So I purchased alot of the SPB software and since I bought it I'm going to use it. The problem I have is everytime I flash it I have to redo the registration info. I use Sleuth's UC so I don't have to do most of the setup but all Registration Numbers are a pain. I was hoping they were registry values but I can't seem to find them....
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated....
Thanks
What you can do is use Wince Cab Manager and pre-reg it through the registry so that you don't have to do each time; save changes to the cab and you should be good to go.
Use SKtracker before and after registration to find the keys affected.
Then add those keys to the cab.
I use SAMASHI instead of UC as it's fairly easy to automate and can be run at any time. To get the SPB Registration codes I installed the unregistered apps once and then use CeRegEditor to take a snapshot of the registry. Then enter the registration codes then do a compare. You'll find that most SPB apps add a registry key to the CLASSES_ROOT. At least I know that Mobile Shell, Backup and PocketPlus do.
As CrazyC says SKTRACKER works but it's another app to pay for. CeRegEditor is free.
It's SASHIMI, lol. I use it to and it works GREAT. I would go ahead and use the SKtracker because it does make things easier.
Thanks Alot
Thanks all....gotta love this website....

The free one, CeRegEditor (runs on your PC) doesn't do file compares, only the registry, where as the pay for one, SKtracker (runs on the PPC) does both, which makes it a great snapshot tool, as some apps don't just store such info in the registry.

Registry access denied- ideas/theories?

Hi all. Sorry to revisit an old topic, but much searching and experimentation has failed me.
I'm running the official AT&T 6.1 ROM, which supposedly has .NET CF 3.5 built-in. However, I installed an older version to get some other software running. Then, I uninstalled the older version and tried to reinstall 3.5, only to get installation errors. In trying to get my 3.5 installation to stop giving me errors, I've been trying furiously to delete the HKLM/Software/Microsoft/.NETCompactFramework registry key, because I read that might be the problem. No matter what I try, I can't delete that key.
After XDAGoogling "registry edit access denied" and several variants of that, I came up with loads of different registry editing options, all of which I installed, and all of which failed.
Here are some of the programs that give me either an "Access denied" or "This key cannot be deleted" error, after I read that they solved the problem for others:
PHM Registry Editor
Resco File Explorer
CERegEditor (tried the "unlock registry" option)
Torchsoft Registry Workshop
BitsInside RegEdit
I also tried every other freeware registry editor I could find on the usual freeware sites (freewarepocketpc.com, pocketpcfreeware.com, freeppcwarefreepcwarefree.com, etc)
I also installed the sdkcerts.cab and Basic Security cabs I came across, with no luck.
So, I'm at the end of my rope, and that's the only time I'd reach out to this forum. Does anyone have any idea:
A) what might be causing the problem,
B) a registry editor I should try I might have missed, or
C) something else that might be causing .NET CF3.5 to give me installation errors (I've searched the hell out of that one, too).
Thanks very much in advance, I hope you're all having a good weekend.
Just one shameless bump, no more, no less.
Maybe it's time to do a hard reset... this could be quicker than trying to find a fix and implement it.
marty, thanks for the reply. I have yet to set up a whole SASHIMI autoinstall scheme, so it's always hell for me to do a hard reset. I'd love to avoid it if I can.
I'm hoping that someone might have had the same issue as me, and gotten out of it. I see lots of .NET installation errors when I search for this issue, but they're all a little different.
I had a similar problem but found I could get around it using MortScript. It's slightly more laborious than using a registry editor because you have to write a small script to set the registry key and then run it. But it did work for me. I find it useful to keep a script with all my registry hacks (and other stuff like program installations) so that I can re-run it after a hard reset.
Cheers.
Just make a cab whit a Post-XML.

If you do not know how to make a cab you can make a xml and use Dot Fred's task manager to import the xml.
What happend when you tried to use CeRegEditor and edit the registry directly from your PC?

HKLMWTF?

Ive never hacked a WM device and I have no clue how to get to the HKLM so I can make changes. Trying to find this information is exhausting so I figured Id just ask and get a simple answer.
Thanks in advance.
registry editor
as mentioned already, it is a registry value (abbreviated)
HKLM would be HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

Right, that Ive found out already(through my research). However, my question is how do I get there to use it to change things on my Diamond found here(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=417873)?
you need an application to search the registry, try googling for PHM registry editor, I use that and it's good.

Well, if you are not that good on computer stuff maybe you should not touch the Registry Editor.
You could use simple installable .cabs to modify your Jewel how ever you want.
Why don't you state what mod you want to take forth and Members here will help you.
Greetings
if you download an exe file like PHM registry editor
if it's an exe you run it on the computer and it use activesync to install
to the pda
if it's a cab file you copy it to the pda and run it there
but as stated if you dont know what you're doing
messing around with the registry is not adviced

Ok, fair enough. I installed the .cab file for the blackberry connect but have no idea where to go from there.
Secondly, Id love to be able to do the things found on the updated diamond tweaks thread.
ie:
Wake Up on New SMS --> HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL : DisableSMSWakeUpEvent <-- set to "1" by default. Change value to "0"
Prevent screen switching off during phone call --> HKEY_Local_Machine\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastD ormantDisplayDuringCall to 0 (Note: does not work on all ROMs)
AND (tested and works on EU ROMs thanks to Rod65)
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\Sleep switch value from 1 to 0
Adjust screen sensitivity: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\TouchPanel
Value = PressureThreshold
Change from the default dword:00000027 or 34 to dword:000000f0 or 240 in decimal
Automatically lock your Diamond --> HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight\AutoDevic eLockEnable from 0 to 1 and everytime your backlight goes off the device is locked
Enable Better Power Management
HKLM\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class\SIM_Class
Set DisablePowerManagement = 0 (default=1)
HKLM\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class\MMC_Class
Set DisablePowerManagement = 0 (default=1)
HKLM\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class\NAND_Class
Set DisablePowerManagement = 0 (default=1)
Thanks. Sorry for being such a pain.

Part of my problem is Im running off a mac mostly. I have a PC on the side but I hate using it. I figured thats the only way I can get to the registry on the phone though.
Prob best to install either Diamond Tweak or Advanced config which is like a GUI interface to do alot of the registry tweaks plus alot more.
I would also suggest that you'd get a little more help if you wouldn't use such obnoxious terms as "WTF" in the title of your post.

I didnt realize it was obnoxious. I was trying to reiterate my confusion in an extreme fashion. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Anyone know where I can find the registration for these soft in the registry?

I'm trying to use Sashimi auto installer, but I can't find the registration key for these software in the registry... Anyone know a fast way to find them?
- Anton Tomov Pocket Mechanic
- DinarSoft.MemMaid.v2.3.Build.230
- PPCLink HiCalc v2.5.1
- Resco Explorer 2008 v7.05
- Resco.KeyBoard.Pro.v5.01
- Resco Registry Add-in
- z2remote v1.2
Not that important
- Resco Audio Recorder
- Makayama.com Pocket Live TV
- Astraware Solitaire
- Glu Mobile Super Slam Ping Pong
- Hexacto Soccer
I'm not asking for the registry key (that's illegal). I'm asking for the registry of these softs which I've already installed and registered in my device.
The only thing i can think of (and im taking a long shot) is download a registry editor and use it to see if there is a folder with the registration there.
Can you dump the registry, before and after the registration and then compare the Hive using something like Winmerge?
I keep meaning to this my self, but never have time

Some mod Suggested me to do the samething, but I don't quite understand how to do that.
So I have to backup all the REG in 1 reg file, then install my program, then do another Full REG backup and finally compare them?
Isn't it way too much especially the *.reg file is like 0 000001000 021? What do you mean by comparing the Hive? can I just like compare the folder name?

The Hive is just another name for the whole Registry.
If you have two .reg files they should be plain text and easy to read. Find and download WinMerge and just use it to compare the two reg files. The difference is the probably going to be the registration data.

Havent done this for a while, but I used to use SKtracker. Basically it makes a log of your registry. Then apply the registration and run sktracker again. It will then compare the two logs and list everything that has changed.

Is it a good idea if I put all the cab in the CAB folder and the full registry backup file into the REG folder, instead of making 1 reg for each cab?
The only problem I can see here is if I switched to a completely new Rom. So if I make 2 registry backup files for HKLM\software and HKCU\Software, it should do the trick right?
