Have a look at this, it is cheap and very effective and light in resources on the Diamond.

What do you mean with "basic" ????
If you want to see simple position data or save track data give GPS Tuner a chance. If you look for anything with maps, TT or Navigon is the first choise.

basic GPS
Hi !
I am using "gps utilities" on Diamiond
Works like a charm.
You will get
Position
speed
elevation
trip statitics (average speed, length...)
It as the ability to switch on anf of the GPS ..
visual gps works great on the diamond. you have just to configure the connection (COM 4)
have fun
Yes, VisualGpsCe run correctly on HTC Diamond.
I have a htc Kaiser and i want to know how many software out there that can speed up the gps? I tried quickGPS and SeaSGEE. Does anyone know anything else beside those 2 softwares? thank you
Try enabling the A-GPS option via AdvanceConfig or KaiserTweak (both available on forum for download).
You can play around with Franson's GPS Gate. Its very good software.
Cheers,
Chris
I installed gpstest, then run it, and then Google Maps and Live search are almost instantaneous.
Why HTC Touch Diamond has Multitouch if it is never used ???

sry but thats not "multitouch" as people know it.
People reffer to multitouch when you the touchdisplay can handle more then a single input.

Let's say the touch screen (display?) is not multitouch, but the touch pad is.
The question of the topic has not been answered yet then:
why there is no ROM/Software using this multitouch function?
It would be great for control, for instance in games, to be able to use this multitouch function and other functionality of what seems to be one of the more advanced touch pad in mobile phone industry.
It looks like HTC was just trying out the hardware and drivers for this function and saves its use for future phone releases...
It's not true that no software uses the touch panel - any software using smart scrolling or zooming is using this fuction, also HTC camera uses it for autofocus. Some members here have also attempted to use it for locking/unlocking applications, among other things.
The problem is that none of the other 'big' developers are writing just for the Diamond.

TouchLockPro uses the capacitive hardware area for unlocking.
Yes but no one is using the "multi" touch properties of the touchpad.

True, but can you think of any uses?
Also, to be pedantic, this is not multi-touch - it's simultaneous use of separate controls, something that WM 6.1 has always been able to handle.

You must have missed the point of this thread and the point I was stressing in my post: Multitouch.
The program you're talking about, uses the capacity of touch panel for REPETITIVE touches at the same point, but not the MULTI-TOUCH capacity at the same time.
Same thing for smart scrolling, it does use the directional capacity of the touch panel, but not the simultaneous touch of different areas of the panel.

It's true that this is not pure multitouch, but at least it is simultaneous use different areas of the same control panel.
The question is not whether or not Windows Mobile has the capacity to use it. It is which program (except that specific HTC Debug Tool of course) available for Windows Mobile is actually using it... I can think of none.
If you're asking for ideas, there are loads of applications using it on the Iphone (games, browsers etc.). I don't see why it can be used on the Iphone and not on the Touch Diamond and Pro.
Except what I was pointing out in my post: lack of real will and policy to do it.
Apple has clearly focused its marketing policy on this multitouch capacity while HTC has not...
As I said, they just tested the hardware and drivers and saving the actual development for future devices...
But it is a fact that those capacities are under exploited. At least, they could have specially designed one or more games just for making use of this feature like they did for Teeter and the accelerometer.
here's an idea for the touch panel we all know our diamond has four buttons the two phone buttons a back and home button but with the multi-touch or whatever you want to call it you could have the ability to add four more buttons and then remap all of them for instance touching the phone button would bring up the phone and pressing it would launch a program. Maybe we can find some one to make that.
There is no multi touch because windows mobile 6.1 doesn't support it. When windows 7 comes out, it will support multi touch and we'll see the touch pro take advantage of that.
Hardware touch pad
The hardware pad reacts like an I-pod. If you open a photo, you can zoom in-and out with both fingers like an I-pod (zooming in by moving your fingers to each other, zooming out by moving the opposite way). It is a bit unsensitive but it works !
ok if there are apps out there that use this, does anyone know wher the API is?? Thanks!
may be HTC is waiting for WM7.0
I think touch pad can not be used often
yes but someone mentioned apps that use these features in another thread, also, the NavDbgTool uses it, so there definately is some undocumented functions!!
*prays that someone hacks it!*

yes , i started this thread to find out if someone can hack them...for example to answer a call just by touching the pad....
I think due Apple has patent on the multi-touch , so MS can't do it , about the patent u can see example:

Just to add comment on this... being able to use two fingers to zoom in and out does not mean it's multi-touch... it's actually calculating an average of your 2 touches, which is why you're finding that it's less sensitive. If you just use one finger and rotate it around the pad then it zooms in and out with a good level of sensitivity.

im using Google maps, the only downside that it need data connection
But the software's language is Chinese
GPS is a technology, not an app. Lots of apps use GPS. What do you want to do? For example:
