I don't know how many of you have had issues with getting the weather to work on any of the Manilla builds, but I did finally figure out a solution for it. I am a Tilt owner, so this may only be a solution for those with Tilts.
First, disable the proxy that ATT has in place.
2nd, take the file HH409_Weather_Cities and open it with notepad on your desktop. After you open it, follow the same setup that they have already to add in your city. After this is done, save it and copy it into the /windows folder on your Tilt. It should ask if you want to replace it. Say yes. After this, locate the file in the /windows directory. It should say Copy of HH409 blah blah blah, RENAME this file! Just remove the "Copy of" and leave the rest. Soft reset the device. Enjoy!
There's a much more detailed guide to adding custom cities found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2638970&postcount=1089
I wrote it awhile ago, and it's posted in the FAQ's in the kaiser rom development forum, and the M2D thread as well.
Awesome, thank you.

No problem, i actually have several tutorials that i have written for various issues. There is so much that i'd like to post but i just haven't had time yet. Check the link in my sig to see what i have posted thus far though.
Scotchua, nice tutorial. I've been using several of your fixes since I discovered them. However, the one note missing from your Manila2D Weather Custom Cities tutorial is how to determine the loca="NAM|US|AK|KETCHIKAN".
I have the solution! For most US locations, you can use the 5-digit ZIP code, but to determine ANY location, including outside the US, use this link to AccuWeather's RSS.
Simply put in your location as instructed in the 'Choose a location' field and click 'Set'. (For this example, I used Whistler, Canada.) The page then generates a URL for you, which looks like accuweather.com/rss/liveweather_rss.asp?metric=0&locCode=NAM|CA|BC|WHISTLER. The piece after locCode= (which I've hilited in Red) is what goes in the loca="" field in the XML file.
Then complete your tutorial, and choose the custom cities! Hope this helps someone else looking to make a quick fix.
Thanks,
Charles

Hi Guys
Im loving my XDA Ignito (removed o2 Rom, now just like a HTC Diamond)
The contacts are displayed "surname, first name" this is soooo frustrating !! Please please could somebody help me convert my contacts to "first name, surname" I have roughly 220 numbers.
Thanks
Adam
Change the "File As" field in each contact. You might be able to do this in Outlook too.
umm... why is this such a problem?!?
are people too stupid to remember a surname?
my friend, when you only have 10 friends, as you must with responses like that, it probably isn't.
On the other hand when you have several Samantha's and such on the phone it can be.
So I would still appreciate some help please.
Cheers
fair enough, but i find it easier to go by surname (and i have many Chris' for example, and it is easier just to go to the one person with that one surname than scroll thru loads of Chris' to find the one with the right surname?!!?!?!?!
i think you will find that ur answer does not make sense.
and on this n00bish argument, there are fricking hundreds of threads about this, so sorry if i'm starting to get pissed off with the question.
Just use the smart dial feature, i have exactly the same problem as you, but i cannot/will not sit there and edit, in my case 286 contacts because microsoft is stupid.
i mean really, if they can file them the wrong way round, surely there is an option to file them correctly, i have been saying this since WM5!!!
NOTHING WILL GET DONE, and i dont think it will
Sorry, guess with frickin hundreds of threads on this there must be frickin hundreds of other people who aren't quite as clever at remembering surnames as you.
Thanks for the help.
Am I talking to myself? Edit the contact and change the File As. All my contacts are firstname lastname.
indeed.
there is no answer to this, most people with technology are used to it.
only Nokia 3310 still have first name first.
why dont u just type the name in one line?
Ruffage, I did try this but unfortunately "file as" only give me one option, i.e. "Smith;John/1"
mugglesquop - Have you nothing better to do than waste my time & yours by writing useless sh*t... F*ck off
usless sh*t??
i told you there is no way of changing them all (AFAIK, and i have read a lot of threads on this)
i also told you a way of storing contacts in the way that you want for future use.
useless?
There must be a way of doing this!!
Also if I do what you said for the future, then I would have half my contacts "firstname, surname" & half "surname, first name" how confusing would that be??

Hmm your contacts are messed up then. I get the choice of both ways to display. Perhaps the name is in one field only in Outlook? Can't check here as I'm not at home atm.
When i go to the properties of the contact, there is only a "Name Field" not a First & Last name field.... hmm ?

It displays like that by default, but there should be a drop down arrow at the right hand side of the Name field and, if you tap that, it'll pop up a further box which shows how the name is actually formatted with the fields Title, First, Middle, Last, Nickname and Suffix.
I changed all my contacts such that only the First name field was populated and had their entire name in there (i.e. "First: John Smith") and that means they all come out as you want with their first name displayed before their last name. That doesn't really help you too much though because you'd have to manually reformat all your contacts which is annoying I know.
Medulla, thanks for that!
I suppose I will just have to spend an hour doing it...

to show off that he has sooo many contacts apparently
i have to use the recent call list far too many people otherwise
This isnt just me showing off how many people i have in my phonebook (as you say) its obvisouly a common problem otherwise there wouldnt be so many posts about it.
Anyway, it was my old phone what f*cked it up, instead of "first" or "last" name it only put it under "name", so spent an hour or so editing them... now spot on. Also under stand the "file as" now too.
Thanks for all your help (or not for some people)

Hi all,
I don't like the feature that a word at the beginning of a sentence will be capitalized automatically when writing an E-Mail or text message. Does anybody know how to switch that off? I know that there are some related settings in the input section, but these settings have no effect on my upper case problem.
I guess (hope) there is some registry setting. Does anybody know a solution?
Cheers,
foo
P.S.: The reason why I hate this feature is that it works wrong for me. When I write an E-mail I start like:
Hello blabla,
how are you today? ...
actually the "h" will be capitalized automatically which is wrong.
haven't found one yet (although haven't looked hard). If you undo straight after the capitalization the word returns to normal (although undo is pretty hard without a Ctrl key on the hardware keyboard).

The setting is in the soft keyboard options. Tap the little arrow next to your keyboard icon and see the options tab at the bottom.
Uncheck the box "Capitalize first letter of sentence"
This may not work on some extra keyboards/sips you install and may need immediate soft reset to make changes.

This setting is already unchecked but has no effect.
Did any of you guys ever manage to fix the Capitalisation issue?
I've just bought an HTC Touch Pro 2 and am having the same issue.
Checking or unchecking the box, warm reset, cold reset, nothing makes a difference.
I'm someone who IS very much bothered buy auto-capitalisation, and so would appreciate any help anyone can offer.
Cheers.
Yup, have the same problem since I got this phone last year! I searched back and forth, up and down and NOBODY knew a solution so far. And I guess, not so many are bothered by this crap either...!
Some say its windows fault... BUT even in word (windows) we can DISABLE this crap... and why is it there to UNcheck if it does not work??? So this is definately a fault... from SE or MS, I don't care... just fix it...make it work as it is suppose to (unchecking means DISABLED!!!!)!!!!!!!!!!
If you find a solution, please share here. But frankly, I don't think there is a registry solution for this. So until SE or MS are really acknowledging this and fix it, there won't be a 'real unchecking' of this crapppppp!
Unbelievable, eh?
Reading other forums on the same topic I see that people all miss the point. Some people love auto capitalisation, which is fine and fair and good for them, while others - like us - hate it. It should up to the USER to decide whether or not they want it, not the manufacturer, and not other forum users either!
I too am at a total loss to find any solution. let's keep this thread alive, and anyone who finds anything at all that might help please do post.
Thanks.
i don't have any resolution to offer. sorry.
but i am another confused end user, highly bothered by this automatic capitalization setting. i share the ineffectual setting problem.
however i do have some good news. i'm running the newest NFSFAN ROM 6.5, and the setting actually does take effect in the ROMs custom text message input field. in all other text input fields, it doesn't.
if anyone can help us, it has to be NFSFAN, NFSFAN ROM's developer.

Not in English and formatted like that it's not
I'm one of the ones that doesn't mind it. 99% of the time it's right for me. I always E-mail and SMS with full words no shortcuts and it saves me an extra tap when starting a new sentence, whether the new sentence follows a full stop on the same line of comes after a full stop and then I move to a new line.
It definitely wont turn off on mine either though.

It's not an English lesson, but it's right more times than it is wrong. (When typing correctly).
Got it!
Well right or wrong... I found the solution.
There are two files located in the windows directory, that are responsible for auto-capitalization:compose_sms.htm (used when composing text/sms)
compose_note.htm (used when composing email)As the extension already indicates, these files are really html files.
You have to edit these files and remove every occurrence of the word "autocap" within. I used total commander for the job (it comes with an integrated notepad).
After I saved the files I had no more auto-capitalization. (It's not even necessary to do a reset)
P.S.: You should do a backup of the two files before editing them, just in case you mess something up.
Good job!
Pity the tick just doesn't work properly.
It's not because of the comma that you get the capital letter. It's because of the line break.
By the way.
Hello xxxxxx,
I was wondering what...
Is correct as far as I am aware. Every letter I get from anywhere has a capital letter in the first paragraph.

Yes, that's right, but there are other situations like using abbreviations (followed by a punctuation mark) in sentences where autocap fails.

The orthography varies of course in different languages. In German language it is a rule to start the first sentence lower case after a salutation followed by a comma. If I used an exclamation point, which is also valid after the salutation, I have to start the next sentence upper case.
In other words:
Hallo Herr Bla,
danke für Ihre Bla Bla...
is correct in German language but might be wrong in English language.
Thanks... YOU are THE MAN !!!

This is brilliant work! Thanks a lot and it WORKS! Just changed it and now this stupid auto cap is gone!!! Since this is a Read Only File, it should stay like that too!
Actually I don't know any language where one writes a Capital letter (except in english the 'I')! So this is just crap and an oversight from MS that this cannot be changed even though its UNchecked in settings!
This autocap was also capitalizing when just pressing the ENTER key and a new line was started, no matter if there was a Period or a Comma!!!!!
Thanks again from all of us who suffered from this...until now!
First up, as the guy who started this thread 100 years ago, my apologies for not being a part of it lately. I've been away.
Secondly, a thousand thanks to Foo for the HTML solution, which I'll try immediately.
Does this solution also stop auto full-stop (auto period in the US!) as well? No one in the thread has yet mentioned the REALLY infuriating feature: type two spaces and you automatically get a full stop and then auto captialisation as well. At least you do on my TP2!
There's certainly no harm in a healthy discussion about what is or is not correct punctuation (although this isn't really the right forum for that), but the truth is we're all free to spell and punctuate however we want, and it's not the place of any software or hardware designer to tell us how we should do that. If I choose to spell the word "Individual" with three Zs, a silent Q and a fullstop in the midle, that's my choice and the software should allow me to do so!
An hour later, and an update on my progress with Foo's HTLM fix:
The fix has eliminated Autocapitalisation after voluntary fullstops, for which a HUGE THAK YOU
However, it hasn't cured the "double-space = auto fullstop and auto capitalisation" issue. Does anyone have ideas on removing that one?
Cheers.
compse_*.htm in ROM and immutable?
I've just upgraded to an official WM6.5 release on my Touch Diamond 2, and have encountered the same annoying problem with first letter capitalization staying on despite the user visible configuration setting.
I've found the \Windows directory compose_*.htm files, with the 'autocap' flags in them .. but on my device these compose_*.htm files appear to be in ROM and immutable. I can't change their permissions to make them non-hidden and/or non-readonly, and I can't delete, edit or overwrite them.
Any ideas, or am I "Stuck" Capitalizing The First Letter Wherever Microsoft Though It Was A Good Idea? Heh.
Thanks!

This doesn't work for me. There is no data in these files that says "autocap", it's just a general template for SMS and Email messages.
I wasn't sure where a good place to post this would be and haven't found a thread in the Raphael or Diamond forum on this topic so hopefully I don't get flamed for starting a new thread. I asked 4 days ago in "Let's see your ATT Fuze Screens" thread on how to edit my dialer skin to make the number keys transparent so I can view my wallpaper behind it so it flows with my theme (this was after a screenshot from someone with a dialer I want and have not been able to find). I did not get back a response. Maybe I posted in the wrong thread. I am a noob, but I am trying to learn how to do things for myself. I have read the wiki and countless threads (yes sometimes the entire 200 pages), used search function within threads, within the specific forums and within the entire xda site. Alot of results come up and none are helpful. Maybe I am not using the right search terms. In any case, I've tried to find a dialer I like, but to no avail, so I would like to try and create my own. Yes, I would like to just be able to install a cab and be done, but I am willing to try and figure it out on my own with some guidance. If someone could please point me in the right direction to do this (maybe the files I have to edit and I can try and figure out how to do that myself from other threads) I would be very greatful. I would like to have a transparent key pad on the phone screen and the screen when receiving a call and be able to place my own wallpaper behind it (Need landscape as well since I have the Fuze). I think this is something others would want as well to keep there personalized themes consistent. If this thread is redundent, please point me to the existing thread.
Thank you.
Since nobody else is replying, I will at leas share what I know. Using your phone's file explorer, navigate to the device's "windows" folder and look for the two dialer .bmp files named "Assets_dialer_Normal.bmp" and "Assets_Dialer_Pressed.bmp". Those are the two files that you need to edit or replace to get the dialer to your liking. Note: there are also other files named similarly "_Assets_dialer_Normal.bmp" etc. so don' mistake the files with the underscore at the beginning of the file name. I hope this points you in the right direction. Be advised that the biggest obstacle will be finding a way to overwrite those protected files. Good luck
IM ACTUALY IN THE PROCESS OF CUSTOMIZING MY DIALER..
IM SKINNING 'UGGALO_x WHITE S2A CDMA'
customizing the dialer is no problem. the same as skinning any of the rest of the display, to get around permissions issues just use Total Commander CE to overwrite the existing file.
transparency is a problem as the dialer pad is comprised of bmp files and as such there is no transparency like you would find with gif or png (unless someone has found a transparency color and i've just missed it).
it may be possible to use your current background image as the background of the bitmap to overlay the buttons onto, thus giving the appearance of transparency. this of course comes with the downside that if you decide to change your background you would have to change your phone screen to one that matched. in addition it would not be just the files mentioned by tx_dbs_tx that you would need to modify in this scenario as the dialer only takes up the lower... oh, 3/5ths of the screen? you would also need to modify the "Calls and Contacts" / "All Calls" / "Speed Dial" fields and the field where the number you are dialing is displayed. i am not presently aware if this has even been attempted yet.
personally, i have only attempted a color change to the dialer to date, but have been successful with that. if somehow nobody else responds before i can check on the unknowns above, i will come back and let you know what i find.
Thanks
Thanks to everyone who replied. I will try and see if I can mess around with these files. I found a dialer to use for now. See thread below. I need to figure out what files are for the slide to answer screen in portrait and landscape and the dialing screen (the screen when you make a phone call). I think that is all of the screens associated with the phone. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Hey guys, I am new here and have no idea how all this stuff works. This probably sounds pretty stupid, but could anyone explain all this stuff to me?
You need to start your education here.
we could, buuuut, theres a wiki for that. ;].
A rom, to a phone, is like every thing you know in your brain. It has all the information the phone needs to function. without it, youve got an expensive paper weight, as everyone likes to say. When you change roms, you flash them to your phone. "Flash" is a term synonymous with change or rewrite, if you will. And its fairly quite simple to execute.
Before we start, I'm not responsible if you don't read my directions carefully or mess it up. So read and re-read, then ask if you're still unsure.
First, you need to flash the HardSPL if youve never devirginized your TP2. Maybe someone could help with that step, as i only flash the hardspl when i absolutely need to which has been... 3 times.
After you flash the HardSPL, download a rom from here. now, i know youre gonna ask "which one?".. its trial and error, find one that works for you and then follow that cook and his/her updates. I find that NRGZ Photon rom is very stable for 6.5. Everyone else seems to be in the market for 6.5.1, or Manila 2.5 as featured on the HTC Leo, which isn't completely stable or functional. I'd recommend that you start with a 6.1 or 6.5 rom, and stick with that until you pick up stuff and learn more. So stay away from the 6.5.1, as it is still very beta.
Before you open the file that youve downloaded, you need to download a program that will unpack the RAR file, which should hold the NBH file and the RUU. [ill get to that in a sec.] I find that the best program to use is WinRAR, which can be downloaded for free. Open your file with WinRAR and extract the files. Make sure your NBH file and your RUU are in the same folder, or else you will get an error. For me, I organize all of my downloads. optional: create a folder "roms" > photon, leo, or some other version > and the builds... Every time you extract a file to a folder, itll overwrite the existing file, and thats why i have it all organized.
Whats in the file: NBH file. This is the knowledge needed by your TP2 to function. Connect your phone to the computer and let it sync with activesync. Click on explore and it should bring up a folder with an orange phone, and the path name at the top should read Mobile Device. Drag and drop the NBH file on that page. The files name should be RHODIMG.NBH.
Once you've done that, double click on the RUU [rom update utility]. The name of that should read CustomRUU.exe, double click... once you do that, read all of the directions it displays.
Just a quick note, make sure your battery is at least halfway full, so your phone won't die in the middle of the flash, as it will not charge during this time.
Everything from there on is very, very simple. Once you get through all of the steps, [clicking all the check marks, making sure you've gone through the steps], you're phones screen will display three different colors, red, white and blue, i believe. Don't be alarmed, this is normal. It will start to flash, and a status bar displaying a percentage will display both on your computer and your phone. IMPORTANT: DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR PHONE DURING THIS PART. If you disconnect your phone, its done, dig it a grave, for the most part. Make sure your cable is of good quality, and that your phone will not fall or get yanked and disconnect.
Once it has finished and the RUU displays a message with "custom rom has finished" or something of that nature, click finish at the bottom right, and your phone should restart and start to configure itself. I wait til it's done configuring to disconnect, just to be safe. And that should be it. :].
i know its hard to understand some of the directions around here, whether it be from lack of definition or complication. I hope this helps a little. Sorry for the length. I had trouble understanding what to do when I first started because there wasn't any clarification.
Happy Flashing,
-josh.
reply if you have questions, or PM me.
What is flashing and how does it work?
You take off all your clothes and put on a long rain coat. You then go down to the park and wait in the bushes for someone to walk by. When they do, jump out and open your coat!

Have read of the stickies and the wiki. A lot of what you want to know is already explained, you have to read, and find out.
A starter... flashing is the process of updating the phones software (everything, including the OS)
