AT&T Tilt - TomTom6 cost question - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I recently received TomTom6 and have used it a few times to make sure it's what I want. It works great btw.
But my question is how does AT&T calculate the service cost? Is it Media Net? Don't want to think it's free and find a $100.00 bill. Also looking to get unlimited whatever it runs on, as I plan to do alot of traveling.
I already have a map of my hometown, and just us TomTom to navigate through the city, nothing else.
Thanks!!!

There is no additional cost to use TomTom. It will only use your data connection if you have A-GPS or TomTom Plus Services enabled.

TomTom 7 works like absolute garbage for me on every ROM I've tried. I downloaded their free map, but within 5 seconds of starting navigation, the map stops drawing, and TomTom goes into an infinite recalculating cycle.
Of course TomTom 6 wasn't much of an option either since their POI's are all out of whack. Veteran's Stadium in Philadelphia was demolished in 2004, so It makes sense that the latest maps from 2007 would not have this stadium. But Citizen's Bank Park and Lincoln Financial Field, both built in 2004 to replace Veteran's stadium, are not listed either!
I switched to iNav since I can also run it on my laptop.

Good experience here
I recently enjoyed 3 weeks in the Los Angeles area, which is very far from my home, and it's safe to say that I and my family relied heavily on my TYTN-II with tomtom6 and the North American map I bought for it. I don't know how we would have navigated without it.
It works like a charm - only one time during the 3 weeks did I need to reset the TYTN-II to get a GPS fix.
The maps are on sale from www.tomtom.com occasionally. I bought mine for like $80.

Well I didn't go TT7 because I'm new to using GPS entirely. And I only found [wasn't really looking for] the cab to TT6.
It came with a free city map, and to me TT6 is great! [On point, gives lat & longitude points and good mph reading].
I'll look into both TT7 & iNav.
Thanks guys!

I keep hearing this from a lot of people.
What ROM are you currently running? Ever since I left Death v4.1, I've tried HyperDragon IIIi and IIIr, ROMeOS 3.x and 4.x, Garmin.DK 1 and 2, and now IBI private beta. I have have various issues with GPS on all of them. In order to get iNav to refresh the screen at full speed, I have to use GPSGate and redirect my hardware GPS to a faux COM port.

TOMTOM and GPS

Hey all!!! I just purchased an unlockled TYTN II and using T-mobile as the carrier for my wife. I installed TOMTOM navigator and I can't get it to detect the GPS on the phone. Do I have to go through T-mobile to get it working or what. I believe these phones already come with the GPS enabled. Any clue on how I could get it working??

Start tomtom and go outside. Without using QuickGPS you should get a fix within 3 minutes.
Maps and traffic
I just giot the tomtom nav6 And I cant buy the maps on the website because it seems to be down. Can anyone help me obtain a map of N.A. or at the minimum Brooklyn and Long Island which is where the NY free map is limited.
Also How do I get the traffic to work? Anyone?
For traffic you need to have a data connection.
I just waited till the GPS got a lock, set my route, tap the screen, hit tomtom traffic and it worked...
if our on AT&T i think some people had to disable the proxy for tomtom to be able to connect.

Don't ask for warez, cause if you can't purchase one from their site are you gonna pay one of us to "obtain" it for you? Use your head. If you wanna look for maps like that try Google.

You guys try downloading TomTom Home and buying maps through the program? The tomtom site's map store's been down for a long time now and I had to go through TT Home to buy my NA map.

GPS Software?

Okay, so I am trying to get a decent GPS software for my AT&T Tilt. I have been using DeLorme Street Atlas 2008 (bought it when I was lost in Seattle last year) and it's pretty limiting. I was hoping to find something better.
Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions, please post them.
I thought I was going to try Tom Tom, but I don't want to buy an old version. I saw a cab for version 7 on here, but I went to Tom Tom's website and I can't find any North American maps for version 7 (and I can't even find version 7 for sale on their website). So I don't know what's going on there. Is version 7 just a beta or something? Is it any better than version 6? I don't feel comfortable buying version 6 knowing that there is a later version...
If anyone can suggest a good GPS program (and where to buy it) with North American maps, that would be great. Or if someone can tell me where I can get Tom Tom 7 (and a North American map for it) that would be great too.
I'm using iGo8 on my Touch HD, and also my el cheap Navigo GPS system.
It's nice (3d building display, so you actually get a visual impression in 3d of your surroundings), but it runs fairly slowly, even on the Touch HD.
However, my father loves his TomTom, and I think it's an easier program to use, so it depends on your tastes and availability - skins are available for iGo to make it look like TomTom, but it's still a bit too feature heavy for the CPUs. It can be toned down to run smoother though.
There are various other apps out there, but I think these two are highly regarded.
Regarding availability, of course, retail is the place to go. But, they can also be found elsewhere...

By newest version, do you mean version 6 (the newest on the Tom Tom website) or version 7 (they sell version 7 maps on the Tom Tom website but not the North America website, and I can't find version 7 for sale but you can download the cab here on xda)...

Illegal request... TomTom 7 is not freeware.
TomTom itself is free - the maps aren't.
It is a valid request, I believe.

Tell me in which country do you live ! In my country, the copyrights exist, probably you never bought TomTom or you bought it and never read the end user licence... By the way, if TomTom was free, don't you think you could easily download it from TomTom website ?
Unfortunately for us, TomTom 7 is not sold anywhere except preloaded on some mobiles... Even TomTom technical support people don't understand this actual marketing strategy.

Actually there is a cab file hosted on TomTom.com which you could download (but think it only works on "real" HTC devices).
There is nothing you can really do with the CAB file, other than get the free local map that TomTom offer.
However if you have paid for maps in the past, then why shouldn't you be able to run them on a different mobile?

Since you asked, I am from the US. You can download the program off the TT website, but it has trouble fitting into our screen due to the resolution. TT makes money by selling the maps for about 40 USD each. And yes, I did pay for them. Please do some research before you make more idiotic remarks, please. I'm not here to flame, but am here to help.
I did some research, and I would be pleased if you could give me the link where you can download the TomTom 7 binaries on the TomTom website, as in Europe, TomTom is looking actively for websites that deliver TomTom illegally to make them close.
I'm not here to flame either, sorry if I may have hurt you in any way. The only places I could find TomTom for free download are all piracy sites... Being a TomTom legal user since release 4, I contacted TomTom support to get TomTom 7, and they told me TomTom 7 wasn't available legally up to now.

HTC has updated its exclusive app Locations which brings Offline navigation of HTC Windows Phone devices. Locations app which was hardly noticed by us so far has now become a must have app for HTC Windows Phone devices. Similar to Nokia Drive app, Locations app allows you to download the whole maps for offline viewing for various countries around the world. Just in time for HTC Titan II launch in USA, HTC has tried to equal the mapping experience on HTC devices on par with the Nokia Maps/Drive on Lumia 900.

Yeah just re-installed and downloading 'United Kingdom' map (about 400mb)
I'm curious to see how it compares to NDrive. I read on wmpu that the maps expires after 1 month but I don't have time to test.
Also, I want to see how good it is compare to NDrive i.e. does it have options to set hwy as preferred or options to avoid tolls, etc.
If anyone can test this out it'll be great.
Awesome! Looking forward to testing this out

It looks like the navigation part is controlled by Route66, you can see it quickly pop up saying this.

Great. Good job.
So HTC Locations is supposed to be a navigation app or is that secondary? Based on the description it seemed like just a way to see a map of a particular region.
Isn't the navigation free for Nokia Drive users? Shouldn't navigation be free for HTC users of HTC Location? Come on.
first 30 days are free, after that it needs a fee
press on 'get more' in the bottom of the navigation tab to find out what i am talking about

Here's the XAP. I've got it running on my Samsung Focus. Pretty nice app.
HTC Locations 2.1
I am really disappointed in the cost for navigation feature. It is a great upgrade, but HTC still falls behind Nokia with Nokia Drive due to the costs.
i'm not really sure if it is paid or not, because I wonloaded maps of Poland and polish voicestarts using. In section get more still have only worldwide and description " start using before....", so maybe it is something different, because I just starded using polish maps yesterday.
edit: sorry, Today it changed to "Expiry date: .....". So it will be paid
I think so, if that app will not be free and she will cost 29,99 euro (~ 125 Polish Zloty) for full version - this price isn't expensive beacause we take aplications without time limit.

Google Map random rerouting

Has anyone had Google maps reroute them mid-route without telling them?
I will try to explain what I mean as clear as possible. Sorry for the long post.
Last weekend I went on a trip from Illinois to Kentucky. I have made this trip a few times so I have somewhat of an idea where I'm going but I like to use google maps to remind me where the exits are etc...the exit I wanted, and what maps has always used to direct me to was the Leestown exit (the place I was going was just off of Leestown Rd...Anyway, it wanted me to get off at an exit like 5 miles before there, so I drove on by since I was pretty sure that wasnt the correct exit...then it wanted me to get off at the next exit...I decided to listen to maps this time and took the exit...It ended up taking me way out in the country with basicly 1 lane roads until it finally took me back to Leestown road...Where I should have been in the first place. There was some construction, but no stoppage on the road at all.
Then next time was when I was leaving. I decided I wanted to go from Lexington KY, and go up to Cincinnati, OH, then Indianapolis, then Champaign, Il to get home. That was one of the 3 routes it offered me when I put in my home address to get home. The "faster route" was through Louisville, KY vs Cincinnati, but Louisville had many areas that were under construction and they tend to have worse traffic.
No matter how many times I would tell it to take the route through Cincinnati, it would always default back to Louisville. I finally just told it to take me to Cincinnati vs home...Once I was on my way to Cincinnati, I told it to route me home via Indianapolis, then Champaign IL. using the interstate...That was the route it suggested. It took me to Indianapolis, but then decided to take me off the highway and onto 2 lane highways the rest of the way.
I could not get it to stick to the original route no matter what I tried. Avoidances were all turned off. It was incredibly annoying and ended up wasting a lot of extra time.
Has anyone ever experienced this? I am on Maps V 8.0.0
Green is what I wanted, Red is what Maps kept re-routing to, and blue is what path it ended up taking me.

I have seen some random things but not quite that bad. When I drove a lot for work a TomTom was more reliable than any phone navigation app.
My biggest gripe is that as I'm driving it DOESN'T update the route enough. I see pop-up boxes that say "6 MIN FASTER" if I take a different exit/etc. Uh, why isn't the program telling me to take that route? I find myself constantly looking down at the screen during my morning commute to get there faster. Previously, it would just randomly tell me where to go and re-route -- but with much less information. You're almost there Google... almost!
I had another instance of it happening again on Monday when I drove to St. Louis for work...I was driving from Decatur, Il; So I take I72 west to Springfield, then take I55 South toward STL, then I270 into STL (my destination was right next to the airport)...I was about 9 miles from the 270 exit when it suddenly told me to stay on I55 for another 19 miles which took me right into the heart of STL...which is way south of the airport.
UPDATED OP WITH MAP
Heres a pic of what it did...disregard my poor drawing skills.
I'm definitely having the same problem with Google Maps v 8.1.0. It rerouted on a trip from Vermont to Indiana last week and screwed me up since I wasn't watching for it. Today, on the return trip it has already rerouted to a slower route 3 times on my Note 2. Perhaps Google hired some former Apple Maps programmers on the cheap? It makes the app unreliable and sort of useless.

Kinda glad I'm not the only one. At first I thought it was trying to re-route for traffic or construction, but neither route to STL had any major construction or traffic. It actually took me back via 270...Very fustrating
Same here as well.
Randomly told me to turn round and take a different motorway which would take an hour longer. Also re routed me off the main road to get to my destination via some back roads which would take 40 mins longer :silly:
For me, the strange routing started happening more with this latest update that included the little "5 MIN FASTER" stuff. Is that the case with y'all?

Yep
I drove up and down the east coast the past couple weeks and had GM do this fairly persistently. Luckily I knew where I was going so I called BS on it when it rerouted me a way I knew to be longer. It seems like it isn't aware of all the connections between streets and routes around them. Ironically for the routes that it did route fine, the ETA values were spot on, even accounting for traffic conditions (for 10+ hour drives).
Yes! Same here. You're supposed to be able to deny Google Maps/Navigatoin from rerouting you if you don't want it to.
I don't know why the Moto X doesn't allow this option. It automatically reroutes you based on traffic and it's annoying because sometimes you want to stay on the main road or highway regardless.
Has anyone figured this out yet?
Also, this.
My solution works great http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/google-maps-version-6-14-3-runs-moto-x-t2785516
