Hi,
I've successfully re-mapped the PTT button by following the instructions from this forum. I imagine the same procedure would apply to the small OK button immediately below the jog-wheel, but I don't know where to start. Of course, the button is not present in the Settings/Buttons applet - that would have been too easy.
First, how to disassociate it from its present function (Start Menu/OK)? And once disassociated, what is the button code to enter in the registry?
I tried aebplus, and it sort of works - but the start menu still comes up on the first keypress if invoked in the Today screen.
Any ideas on how to re-map this otherwise useless key?
Thanks,
Mike.

You sound like a jerk for posting that I did not search when the reply prior to mine was 6 months ago.
Did you even read the thread? None of the links you posted had instructions/advice on how to remap the side "ok" button.

The side "ok" button is a tough one because it has multiple functions. In programs, explorer windows, and settings it acts as an OK button but when you're at the today screen it acts as a Start Menu button. I kinda get the feeling we're not going to be able to change this for a while. Not until someone releases a keymapper specifically for the Kaiser.

It's really easy with help of AE Button Plus.
You can pretty much map any hardware key on your device with this great app.
I have it setup to be able to copy and paste by using the sliding keyboard and pressing Window Key + C to copy and Window Key + V to paste among other cool shortcuts.
Cheers!

Thanks Rayan. I downloaded the AE Button Plus program for my AT&T Tilt, and it is working fantastic for remapping buttons. I was able to remap the side OK button to lock my phone by holding it for a few seconds. I love the way it also lets you leave the button with its default setting for one press, but create other actions for multiple presses.
By the way, the phone locking works fantastic. It allows me to answer calls, but doesn't activate any of the other phone functions until I unlock the phone. That's perfect for carrying the phone in my pocket. Also, incoming notifications don't unlock the phone, so that I won't accidentally turn-on a bunch of applications while the phone is in my pocket. The unlocking action is very simple.
I've also mapped volume up and down to a long press of the soft keys. That alleviates the need to use the stylus to select the volume button. Great.
The AE Button Plus program was what I've needed all along to customize my phone. It would've saved me a lot of time.
One other note, I downloaded the 2.6.3 version of the program, rather than the freeware version, but I haven't gotten any info on the cost. I may be disappointed in the near future if this program automatically deactivates. Do you know if I should expect a disappointment? I would pay for this program, but I'm not sure how much it's worth to me, but I saw no information on the cost. Do you know?
AFAIK there is only one version, if you want the registered version you buy a license and there's a procedure to activate it, otherwise it uses the free version with a couple features disabled and a nagscreen once in a while.
I want to remap the side ok button to calendar and long press to new appointment.
I have Pocket Plus 4 and it gives me the option to do it and it works when i have a program open, but when im on the today screen, it just opens the start menu. Any soluton to this?
You might try posting your question on the Spb forums. Developers over there monitor the threads, and might be able to help.

Try aebutton plus.
Ideas? Wouldnt want to register to another forum for this...
like the post above said, AEButton, or maybe HButton.
Ok, I posted to the spb forums.
Please refrain from posting suggestions you have not tried. AEButton and HButton do not work.
Even if they would work, when I have a program that’s supposed to do this function, the first answer on my opinion shouldn’t be to install more programs to my device.
Just do this via the > Settings > Buttons.
I reprogrammed it to the HTC Action Screen.
AE Button does work, however, much like the Red End-call button there is a small issue. I can map the button for single, double, tripple, and long press, BUT, the button works as follows.
Press button, upon release the start menu opens.
Press button again, then it acts as AEB's 1st press.
Press button, twice, thrice, hold, all work OK
So it's OK but you just have to ignore the first push.
Now this is all on the side OK button, the front OK button is mappable seperately with AEB+

Like your Avatar, Bahh Humbug. AnyButton + is easily one of the most useful apps for PPC phones. I have so many functions mapped with it that the phone would be crippled without it, so sometimes suggesting a must have app is helpfull.

the ok button on the side is extremely different from the ok button on the front that you are referring to
Is the side OK button similar to the PTT button? I wonder if the side OK key can be removed from the registry and then renamed so that it would not open the start menu first, before the first, twice, thrice and long AEB push?

THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT....
I dont need new apps, i have everything else the way i want. Like my avatar, i'm allmost good to go.
In Pocket Plus 4, first push opens the start menu and second push closes it. Unless i have some window open at today, then it works as i remapped it.
Their seems to be a problem with the camera when you press the side button to record a video.
I click to record and everything goes fine then when I go to end the video my phone freezes and needs a soft-reset.
This also happens when trying to save a picture.
::::EDIT::::::
I found out how to fix it.
If anyone else is having this problem this is what I did to fix it on my Wing.
Install SKTools -- Use search to find it
Open up SKTools and go to "Tune Up"
Keep tabbing to the right until you reach buttons.
Click on Button 3 and on top press "..." and press File
Put the Directory to \Windows\Camera.exe press Actions then Done
Press done once again and it should work fine.
I guess it was a problem with the shortcut.
Hope this helps out anyone having the same problem.
I don't know if anyone can help me with this, or has experienced the same problem, but .... when typing SMSs on the keyboard I frequently mistype and somehow send the message before I have finished typing it. But have no idea how, I have tried pressing every key to replicate but without success, seems like I must be pressing a mysterious key combination which is a Send short cut but can find no documentation of this. Can Anyone help and is there a list of keyboard short cuts anywhere?
Thought that I had found the answer to my own post - in the phone manual. You canbring up a list of keyboard shortcuts by opening up a message programme, eg SMS, MMS or email, then in message list press and hold H key. On list is S - Send, but if I try this in open message just get SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS repeated across doc. Any help anyone. Nearly there but not quite!
you're accidentally pressing the left softkey on the keyboard
You are pressing the softkey by accident on the keyboard. Its very annoying, and I dont know of any solution at present.
Surur
Same problem here. Happens alot.
Yeah, the only way is to completely disable the soft keys, but you have to completely disable them, as in on every screen & including the two on the front of the device. Not very practical.
Same thing w/me, i just learned to be more careful when typing the letter T cause thats when i always hit it.

Bingo "t" or "r" Stupid Large Fingers.
This was happening to me but sorted it by using a little app called AE Button Plus
It doesn't stop you catching the button but you can change the soft keys so that they need to be double pressed to activate. You can also change them to a long press or 3 presses but i found a double press was good for me.
The downside is that it affects the soft keys on the front of the phone too as essentially to the phone they're the same button. That trade off is well worth it for me though, was bloody annoying sending blank txts every 5mins!

Yeah, happens too often. I sent reply email today that said "It"
Thanks to all replies, guess that's what I must be doing - bloody annoying. I already have AEButton Plus so if I can't be more careful with the fat fingers I may try that solution.
The OK button below scroll wheel on the side of the phone. Can this button be reassigned through the registry?
I was going to try and create that entry but I am not sure of the button number.
Any help?
it think it can, one of the button mapping 3rd party apps that you can but was able to map it to whatever you wanted. I used it for a while but ended up using the button featuer within spb pocketplus4 since it was already installed for other features
Pending what ROM you use you can reassign.
Easiest fix is to search for PTT remap which, if I'm not 100% wrong, will give you a changed button application.
I am using the stock AT&T 6.1 ROM.
I installed S2U2 and wanted to map the side OK button for Volume control.
If I knew what button # it was I could create the registry entry.
I want to try and do it with a third party app.

I believe the question was about the button BELOW the wheel, the PTT button is above the wheel. Also, 6.1 already allows mapping of the PTT button.
I believe the software is Vito ButtonMapper, google that and you will find it.
I was aware that he was talking about the button BELOW the wheel but if I recall right PTT reassign gives a six buttun mapper. If not my apologies.

Yes the PTT would be 6 and can be mapped using 3rd party software for wm6 and natively in 6.1.
This issue has been batted around for a while now, and even with the Hermes as well. As far as I know, the ok button is pretty much hardwired. No one ever found a registry key, and no button mapping program recognizes its existence.

Well that sucks, that is the only button I never use and being able to assign it to volume would actually make it useful.
And to the others, yes I am referring to the OK button below the scroll wheel. I know the PTT button (above wheel) is #6 and I already know how to assign that one.
Time to go to WinMo 6.1. I have toggle backlight on short press, close all on long press. Works great at least on a Kaiser with ROMeOS.

If you are willing to spend 8 bucks this will do it and a bunch of other stuff.
(or reverse engineer the program and pull that piece out)
Worth the 8 bucks to me.
