Wifi - connection lasting < 15seconds - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

I just got my diamond today and am having problems with the Wifi on the device. I connect to my wireless router which is using WPA-PSK (with TKIP) security which other WM6 devices can connect to without a problem. When i connect with the diamond, the connection last 10-15 seconds before dropping out and reconnecting after 30-60 seconds.
Is anyone else having this problem? has anyone discovered a fix?

Hi,
I have had exact the same problem using HTC Touch, HTC Touch Diamond and HTC TyTN II. I have tried many things without success. No matter it is a secured network (WPA/PSK TKIP) or just open, the WIFI connection gets hanged after half a minute (or something). I think this is a wlan communication bug in HTC wlan adapter/driver which happens with some accesspoints.

What kind of router do you have? I have a D-Link DSL-2740B which is a Wirless Router/ADSL Modem with Wireless N1. I'll have to try it on some other routers and see what happens

Make sure your settings are for "the internet" and not "work". i had this same issue and this fixed it.

D-link are widely known to fu**-up wi-fi. Try a different router!

I have an unlocked AT&T Tilt (HTC TyTN II) and I too cannot hold a connection with any AP. I would love a solution to this issue so I can save on data charges and access a feature that is suppose to be available with this phone!

Same problem.
I have the same problem. The Internet is working less than 1 min then nothing.
Any solution until now (except a disconnect/connect procedure)?
Regards.

same problem here too, to bad this phone dont use symbian
if the problem still persist im back on nokia

Unable to connect to Cisco Aironet AP

We have three brand new Tytn IIs which are unable to conect to a Cisco Aironet AP. The AP is configured for WPA2-Enterprise (auth by a RADIUS server). An XDA Exec and an XDA Orbit and numerous laptops all connect to this AP fine. The Tytn IIs connect to various other APs ok too.
Anyone else come across problems between the Tytn IIs and Aironet APs?
I am having a similar problem using Cisco Aironet APs with WPA2-AES-Enterprise. I can connect fine but occassionally the Tytn II crashes at various times during the wireless session (the screen goes blank, and I have to perform a soft reset -- none of the buttons are responsive, however the green light still flashes indicating the phone is still active).
Also, the AP is configured to accept connections using WPA-TKIP, WPA-AES, WPA2-TKIP, yet the Tytn II will only connect to the Aironet with WPA2-AES.
A Belkin WAP with WPA-AES and a preshared key works perfectly, however.
Sorry to bump an old thread... just got through doing a dozen or so hard resets trying to debug a lockup problem.
Turns out even if the wifi radio is OFF, the Tytn II will lock up hard if I've added my Cisco Aironet 1200 series access points to the list of access points (WPA2/PSK AES). It'll take a few soft resets before I'm able to boot past the HTC logo screen.
I connected to a few random open access points without problems... the hard lockups seem to happen only on the Cisco access points.
I have also have the exact same issue here with a Cisco 1100 (G-only) AP. Has anyone found a solution yet?

Flashing my Radio to 1.27.12.17 got rid of the lockup (now it just resets the phone when connecting to the Cisco 1200). However, my enterprise network Wi-Fi (with 802.1x/RADIUS, WPA2/PSK EAP) on 1130 access points seems to be working fine now.
See here for various radios.

I have exactly the same problem, I have an ISR at home, and the TYTN II will not connect to it, I have tried everything possible, go round to a mates house, and it connects fine to his AP (cheapo one).
Somebody mentioned disabling ccx on the AP's, but i dont think my ISR has that.

At&t Tilt / wifi problem

Hey everyone!
I've just bought a new at&t tilt and determined a problem. I couldn't connect to the internet through neither my home wireless router (netgear), nor any free wireless routers in the apartment building were I live. I connected the tilt to my router, but I wasn't able to acess the internet. I tryed to change different setting but everything was unsuccessful. After I called to at&t( probably 10 times or more) I was told that I can use the wifi connection only within certain special at&t "hotspots". Is it true? Can I somehow remove this restriction?
Thanks,
Mike

Not true. You can use any wi-fi - just like your laptop (assuming it's unsecure or you have the security code). Is your wi-fi turned on via Comm Manager? Are you using the stock ROM or have you flashed a new one? Is your wi-fi set up correctly via Comm Manager (search for Comm Manager and WLAN setting on the forum).

I had the same problem when I got my tilt. After just fiddling around it started to work and I really didn't do much that would make a change.
Use the connection manager and try the wireless settings to make sure it sees your wireless networks.
Power it down and turn off the cell portion and just have wifi running.
I too am having problems with WIFI on my new Tilt at my home location. I have flashed the stock HTC rom (WWE rom: 1.56.405.5 / radio: 1.27.12.11) and everything on the device works perfectly. Even before that I had tried to connect using the AT&T rom, still no luck. I can get the WIFI to connect and stay active, but when I open up internet explorer or opera mini I cannot get any pages to download. I can get a connection from other places that have wifi, both secured and usecured networks and the Tilt's wifi works fine. I have other WIFI devices connected to my home wireless router and they work perfectly. I have tried playing with all the settings on the phone and even on the wireless router, still no luck.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I just tried your suggestion about turning off the phone side of the Tilt, and having wifi running, still no luck.
You are not alone
I had the same problem as you. I tried different configs on my router. I could not even connect to other open wifi spots. I was finally able to connect after flashing to another rom with a different radio. I have tested about five roms so far. Wifi worked most of the time. I am using Dutty's 6.1 and it is working like a champ now. It seems as though many stock Tilts have that problem.
I may be wrong, but I think I remember reading somewhere that the rom and radio version do not really effect WIFI?
I got my WIFi working! First I updated the router through Netgear. Then I went to a friends house that uses a secured router as well. Then I slid the WIFI to 'best performance'. Then I successfully connected to internet at my friends house. Then I came back home, signed in to my secured router, and voila! It works like a charm now. Pretty fast too.

My Fix
So I had the same problem. Could not connect to home network after ROM. Go to "wireless manager" at first the icon for wifi would not allow selection. I selected bluetooth, closed it, then wifi could be selected. then select settings in wireless manager, if your network is unsecure, just next, next, finish. I was then connected. hope this helps someone out.
I've had a few problems with wi-fi. I've seemed to narrow them down to using unsecure/secure networks. I've found that my Tilt doesn't like to play well with "B" unsecure. Tested this with an older D-link, and Linksys "B" router. Haven't really had any problems with "G" networks.

so can anyone help me ? ive never had problem like this with all my other wm phones lol
i dont have any problem connect using WIFI @ home.. did u set the network correction? (if use wireless , each set got it own network point & password) did u set correctly
I'm experiencing some problem like this also.
With my Hermes, I was able to get a working WiFi connection @ home. With my Diamond I simply can not. My Diamond can see the WiFi network and than wants to log in to the network, but it gets rejected for what reason. I tried every possibility in my router (WPA1, WPA2, even unsecured, Turbo off etc --> not random, I know enough bout networking to know what I'm doing). It's really strange, by a friend of my I can connect to his WiFi network. Let's me conclude that it is my router.....
hmm not sure about router being problem

Tilt Wi-Fi Problem after WM6.1 Upgrade (official)

Hi, I've had my Tilt for a while now, and I just updated to the new WM6.1 ROM this morning. However, after the upgrade, I could no longer get the wifi to work. I can connect to the wireless networks (tried different networks both open and secure), but when I try go to a website or use the internet, it just sits there and then says cannot connect. I have tried everything I can think of to fix the problem. I tell it to connect through work and through the internet, and messed with some other setting but that wouldn't do it. I plugged the tilt into activesync and it used the computer's connect just fine. Anyone having or had this issue, or have any suggestions?
Chris
Did you install the remove hidden proxy CAB?
If not, go here and get it:
http://www.4shared.com/dir/6996097/3f1f5d36/cabs.html
It's the removeHiddenProxy4CWS_0522 file
There may be others that do the same thing.
I installed the hidden proxy cab on my tilt, and the wi-fi still isn't working. Any other suggestions on fixing this problem. It's killing me. I though I'd be able to upgrade and reinstall all my files in just over an hour before I ran into this issue.
Update: Okay, I reverted back to the previous WM6 ROM and the wifi worked with absolutely no problem right off the bat. I don't understand what the issue could be and whether anyone else is having the problem. I'm going to try the WM6.1 ROM one more time, and then give up. I have to have wifi because I'm not willing to fork out money for a data plan. Any solutions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
change the power mode for the wireless mode to 'Best Performance'. This worked for me. Start -> Settings -> Connections -> wireless lan -> Power mode -> Best Performance.
Work Around For Wi-Fi Problem
I have found a work around for this and have tested on my "Tilt" which works 100% for the windows mobile 6.1 rom. On your device go to start, settings, connections then click on the connection icon then manage existing connections. Create on new setting on top of Media Net settings which you will have two connections. Name it Cingular GPRS, Enter Cingular GPRS, then Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G) for your modem, click next access point name wap.cingular, click next then User name [email protected], Password encrypted. The only thing you need to do is when using the internet & text messaging to have settings set on bullet mark Cingular GPRS. When using MMS only check check bullet mark for Medit Net and have proxy settings enabled at all times which will not affect your Wi-Fi connection to browser the internet once you switch back to Cingular GPRS in your settings. https://www.wireless.att.com/suppor...tutorialsCategory=MEdia+Net&tutorialId=614410

Hi, I tried you solution several times, but still could not get the problem fixed. I guess I am just resolved to going back to the WM6 ROM. Thanks for the info though.
@abhijitray: I already tried changing the power settings when I first began having problems, so that's not it.
i have the same problem with my Tilt. But i found that when i connect to my PC with the USB cable, ActiveSync is on, my IE works fine. With Wifi connection, IE is still dead.
maybe an off topic question, but what does the new rom have that the original rom that came with the tilt doesn't? anyone have a link or something, or is it something like better batter performance? thx
i have tilt with the latest official WM6.1 ROM, and have no issues with Wifi.
Ok - here's my story.
I had a default WM 6.0 Official ROM Tilt and upgraded to ATT's 6.1. Immediately my WiFi stopped working. I waited for updates on this thread, and with my temper rising at such a poor release, I decided to go to Dutty's 6.1 Hybrid. Same thing - Wi-Fi didn't work. (To qualify, it would connect and get an IP address, but any attempt to access the net - ping, ftp, Gmaps, Activesync - would fail) I upgraded to the latest eMo radio and still didn't work. I scratched my head and decided to check my router. It's an older D-Link 802.11b and sadly the last firmware was released in 2005. I changed the settings on it to not use Turbo mode and voila, it connected. All happy and such.
But now the problem is slightly different. It will connect once, but after it disconnects (either because I manually turned off WiFi on the phone or the phone entered Standby mode) I cannot connect again. I literally have to reboot my router. This is great a home, but I worry when I have to use a public wifi hotspot. Any thoughts on that?
And yes, I have played around with the power settings.
Kojak
another thing I have noticed on my router is that my Tilt is not sending a hostname along with the DHCP request. Could that be the issue on the WiFi connection? I am wondering if that confuses the router.
Tom
I have the same problem too. tytn II with latest rom. At home with my old linksys which is a 802.11b device. If i disconnect wifi and then try to connect - the phone say - Unavailable. I notice that if i change the channel the phone connect just fine.... very strange
ps. sorry for my bad eng.

I see the same here - I think that by changing the channel it reboots/resets the router and allows you to try again.
ps. don't worry about your english. If this board was in a different language, I am sure that most people here would not even be able to post a thing.

Well, your problem sounds exactly the same as mine (WM6.1 official). Maybe I should have tried a public hotspot, but it just wouldn't work on my home network (I even cut off the encryption and made it open). I downgraded back to WM6 ROM and everything working fine, so I guess no WM6.1 for me.
It is definite a router by router problem. Had problems with the D-Link but I tried it on a Buffalo 802.11g router running Tomato firmware, and I had absolutely no problems. That being said, this could be either a:
802.11b problem?
D-Link problem?
Something must have changed in the WM 6.1 code from WM6.0 as it pertains to WiFi. If only it was as easy as a toggle setting to fix.
For me, it was the opposite. I could get WiFi to work at my office on Mobile 6.0, but I couldn't get my network at home to work. I have a Wireless-N network at home, and even though I set it to B-G only mode, it still wouldn't connect. As soon as I hit WM6.1, everything was fine.
Unfortunately, this happens more than one would think with Wireless network equipment.

Kojak_nyc,
You hit it on the head. It is a router issue, although its not limited to the D-Link router because I have a 2wire HomePortal 1000HW and it also doesn't work. It is also on 802.11b, so that could also be the issue. Something must have changed between in the settings the WM6 and the WM6.1 upgrade. I'll go ahead an inform HTC of the issue (not that they'll do anything).
I believe that the once the tilt is updated to WM6.1, it no longer works on IEEE 802.11b.
I think this is a Dlink issue. I've got a linksys router at home and it connects to that fairly quickly. ssid on that isn't hidden cuz i've got vista machines that have a hard time connecting.
anyway, at work i've got a dlink di624, 802.11g, router and i've not been able to connect the kaiser to it. i think tomorrow i'll do what was suggested and just play around with the channels and find which works. the dlink's set to automatically choose the channel it uses so i'll hard code it for a channel i know the kaiser'll scan for and then see what happens.
if it doesn't work i'll juts keep using the 3g connection... i do have 6GB/mo and haven't come anywhere near using it up.
Experienced similar problem just now. I just upgraded to WM 6.1 and my WiFi connection's been unstable since last night. I have a wireless router with excellent signal on my room and enjoys streaming video before I upgraded to WM 6.1. When I reset the phone it restored WiFi connection again.
Hope you could share some tweaks to resolve this problem.
Thanks.

Any ideas on problems with Wi-Fi losing network key?

Hi
I've got a problem with a Diamond which keeps losing it's connection to our wireless network. The Diamond is used in a school with multiple wireless access points and a WPA-TKIP key. The Diamond works fine for a short while then loses it's connection and asks for the network key. Obviously this is quite a major problem when a person is trying to sync etc. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing the problem and how it can be fixed?
