Hi,
Bought a Diamond on my trip to Canada last week. The wanker told me it was a 3G model but it is the GSM/Edge version which does not work here in Japan.
Anyone interested in swapping a mint condition kaiser (pref HTC branded) for my Diamond perhaps with a few bucks cash as well.
If so drop me a PM with your offer.
Thanks...
i have a at&t tilt which is a kaiser unlocked.. might be interested..
dave

Is it a UK/European phone? The 3G there is the same as Japan's. Otherwise, is it the US/Canadian version?
i thought 3g wasnt supported in japan, because there was a whole thing with nokia n95 were they released a version which had the umts/3g 2100 mhz removed because its not supported, niether is wifi
although that might china

That's the version for India market.
The current Diamond that supports 3G will not work at 3G speeds in the US due to its supported frequencies. However, I read this week on Engadget that a US-compatible Diamond has made it's way to the FCC for approval.

Tmobile 3G
New York for now
Running on 1700 uplink and 2100 downlink
page with info, not much
http://www.phonemag.com/t-mobile-3g-its-alive-052654.php
ps. post the device that you used
I'm in NYC, have a TyTnII on T-mobile using Dutty's 6.1 and not picking it up...
Still getting Edge network.
I think this is because UMTS 1700 is not a band option in the phone settings in this rom.
I am hoping that someone can confirm or deny this for me.
I don't have it, but a colleague of mine has it and enjoys it. He says it's much better than the old network.

its also that the system is not letting the 3g icon to come up or something like that

what device does he have?
T-Mobile's 3G uses the AWS spectrum (1700MHz/2100MHz), which isn't compatible with ANY Windows Mobile devices, AFAIK. So we're pretty SOL for now.
so that would mean that for people on tmobile, will have to buy new devices
I couldn't help myself. This phone seems perfect so i ordered a diamond that will arrive tommorow. Now my question is if anyone thinks the bands for US are present and need to be unlocked or if this will end up on ebay . Thanks!
There's several topics about it there.
You won't get any 3G in the US with it, and you'll only be able to use the 1900 band for voice/GPRS/EDGE.
Actually you are incorrect. 1900 Mhz is supported w/3G w/AT&T in certain areas. Unfortunately my Diamond is not even getting an EDGE connection. From what I am hearing the Diamond is only supporting 2100Mhz frequency w/3G according to HTC. Which to me makes no sense.. I am blogging my experience with it as it is the first production unit in the USA.
You just said i was incorrect and correct in the same paragraph lol
This is where all the confusion starts.. For GSM/GPRS/EDGE it does 900/1800/1900 MHz - only 1900 would work in the US. For UMTS (3G) it only does 900/2100 - neither of these frequencies are used in the US.
The protocols and modulation used are completly different for GSM/GPRS/EDGE vs UMTS. The dispersal of uplink and downlink frequencies is completly different. Just because it can do 1900 for GSM doesnt mean it should do 1900 UMTS.

You should get edge. Edge is an extention of GPRS but requires a different BTS (radio tower) setup. Its possible you don't have a strong enough signal, but it sounds like your confident you should have edge in that area.
The only thing i can suggest it to try in a different area - like the centre of town. Also, confirm your APN is setup corectly, the [G] may just be telling you GPRS is available, but not that you can attach.
I know with my elfin it takes a little stronger signal to initiate the Edge icon the first time (ie. after a hard reset). I can't get an edge signal inside my office but once I walk outside for a minute or two, bam I have it. Then when I go inside I still have it.

Diamond had UMTS(2100)+GSM(900+1800),UMTS(850+1900)+GSM(850+1900),UMTS(800+2100),UMTS(850+2100)+GSM(900+1800),UMTS(850)+GSM(900+1800) and UMTS(1700) depend what rom you had in your Diamond and where you bought your Diamond , At&T should be show 3G in US and T-mobile used 3G (1700 Mhz) in New York area
The platform in the phone can support all those bands, so you might be able to see them (like in the test rom) but the antennas are not there. So you won't actually be able to pick up a signal.

I guess all of us US early adopters must hope the hardware is there and can be enabled with a future flash.
T-mobile in the US uses 1900mhz for GSM/Edge and only has 3g in NYC, so I'm figuring that it's a cool stop-gap device until something is available for T-mobile 3G.
so anyone have the rom that had thoose bands....
confused
so im a little confused.... If I buy a diamond on ebay, it wont work in the US? or 3g just wont work? does the diamond accept a sim card?
On AT&T it will give you only GPRS! On Tmobile (NEW) it shows EDGE!! I dont understand this at all!

Voice and EDGE will work just fine as long as you are in a major area that uses 1900 band. You might have weak or no signal when you are in smaller rural areas since those usually extend into the 850 band.
You will not be able to use 3G since the Diamond only supports 900/2100, neither of which are used by AT&T
It looks like if you have ATT you are hosed for both voice and data, as most of ATT voice and data (Edge) is 850mhz. Most if not all of T-mobile voice-data-Edge is 1900mhz so you will have at least Edge. If you're looking for 3g data you're SOL until the US version of the diamond is released.
this fn blows htc has really screwed us here in usa...i was willing to spend 800 for this device and htc doesnt even see this? by the time it comes out here in quadband ...the x1 will be out and not mention the 3g iphone...oh well

We will get the diamond, have to wait for the US version that does the different bands.... wich leads me to my next question. What carrier do you think will get the diamond??? AT&T seems to get all the cool stuff.

I don't think HTC cares about America too much any more because it's iPhone territory. As they haven't used their own branding until recently, I think HTC are looking to gain market control and loyalty, and that's easiest where the iPhone hasn't been a huge success.

Again, HTC seem to like doing exactly what Apple are not doing, so they may go for multiple carriers. As far as I'm aware the Touch Diamond, and its branded versions, are launching on every network in the UK. That's the complete opposite of Apple's 'one network per country' policy, and they consequently seem to have dropped it (for example, in Italy).
AGREED 100%!! I have been saying this on my podcast for quite a while.. It is a huge mistake. I am now saying since I just received my Diamond that I took one for the team.. I will post my review as the days go by...

Exactly like the title says I have a US 3g diamond and unfortunately have t-mobile so I need a euro model anyone wanna swap??
Oh god!!
and i need a US because i have the euro model but....i live in Argentina!!!!
Im in Florida and t-mobile runs 1700/2100 for 3g here not 850/1900 like ATT.
JFYI the T-mobile 3G is NOT compatible with Diamond, because either version lacks the 1700mhz required to upstream. Is a well reported issue. Those bands are not available.

2nd... I don't understand why everyone assumes it works on 3G with T-Mobile, aren't half of the posts in this forum about how the Diamond works on no US 3G at all?

hmmm interesting I was under the impression the euro model supported the 1700/2100 that t-mobile requires in the US. I know the 850/1900 works great for 3g on ATT in the states.
Hi,
I bought my HTC diamond in the US, but live in europe.
Obviously, I can't connect to the 3g network here.
Is there anything I could do? If I install European ROM will it work?
if so - which ROM should I install?
My current ROM - 1.93.422.4 WWE, 08/13/08
Thanks for your help,
Mike
It is not about the ROM but the hardware of the Diamond. There are different hardware revisions. Go to bootloader and check what you have.
It is something like DIAM100
Diam110, 64m, spl-1.93.0000
anything i can do?
thanks man!

Most european diamonds are diam100 i think, you need to check what bands you diamond supports then check the bands the network/s you wanna use, use for there 3G/HSDPA Services, see if any are compatible
how do i check which bands my diamond supports?
I just had a look on google for you mate and this is what i came up with
The US 3G unlocked Diamond supports AT&T's 850/1900MHz HSDPA network, but not T-Mobile's US 3G bands. It is dual band 3G, so there's also no support for Euro 3G. It's a quad band GSM world phone with EDGE (850/900/1800/1900MHz), and that means you can make a phone call anywhere in the world GSM service is available, and you'll have access to the slower GPRS and EDGE data networks across the world. Since it's unlocked, you can use it with any carrier's SIM.
So it looks like it duznt support Euro 3G Bands, Sorry
thats a shame..
thanks anyway
thats a shame..
thanks anyway
I cant get 3G/HSDPA with orange here anyway, it dont bother me, i just steal broadband from unsecure wifi routers lol
*Double Post* Thats wot u get for stealing broadband lol
I'm in an opposites position here...
Live in the US with a European DIAM100...lol
Hello I have a European and like to trade it for a US version.
Also I'm sure like in in almost any Phones the UMTS Antenna is the same it is only limited by the Software (Radio) Big guys even on XDA developers denid that on the new Google Nexus one but HTC/Google confirmed it is ONly the "RADIO". GUess there is the whole world with one Standard and USA/ Canada with least than 6 different standards not compatibel to the rest of the World. THe Hardware guys pruduce for this development Country USA 7 extra and incompatibel HArdware version. It is haard to beleive and from any manufacture standpoint totaly inefficent.
So i would try first the regular Radios and good luck.
Hello All,
I have brought an unlocked HTC HD7 (T-Mobile) from USA and according to the specs given at HTC US site, It says that it supports UMTS 2100 and AWS 1700/2100 band for 3G.
Can anyone confirm on having used HTC HD7 (T-Mobile) in India on Tata DoCoMo or BSNL network for 3G?
Thanks
Shaju
well, i already bought mine from us and i use it in Saudi Arabia with no problems at all with 3g, just to be sure contact your telecom company and ask them if it is supported or not.
regards
Theoretically, yes, it should work.
I'll be giving it a shot on Vodafone (in Mumbai) once they launch their 3G service, shortly, but if anyone else has confirmation, that'd be great to know.
Hello saud_19, what is 3g band used by your service provider? Is it UMTS 2100 or AWS 1700/2100?
Thanks,
Shaju
well Shaju, unfortunately i am not sure but i think it is 2100.

Most likely you wont get much out of your HD7 cellphone in india..
you will be combarded with spam because thats where all the marketing place is ring ring and they spam you with advertice. Infact indian doesnt have the best coverage at all... its a poor country to beging with.
Its best you buy a phone that works in your town and that make sure it has coverage all over with your local provider.

First of all lemme tell you all, that HD7 works great in India, got hold of one in Nov last year and have been using it with impressive results.
There are some issues with the marketplace, but a workaround is available.
Secondly about India being poor, I guess this is not the forum to take offense, to what clearly is OFFENSIVE.
3g services are lagging, as its still in a nascent stage. I'm getting between decent to good speeds on Airtel 3g in Delhi
Cheers

Dumb-ass ignoramus comments.
A TMOUS HD7 will get 3G on 2100 band.
Great, this means I won't regret my impulse buy of a TMOUS HD7 last week.
It works too where I live, we a UMTS 2100 network. But speed sucks!! think it does not support hsdpa speeds on UMTS 2100 networks cuz mine cant get pass 35KB/s download speed
