Hi,
When I don't use my diamond, after some seconds the screen just gets a bit darker but never disappears. the buttons don't seem to block ether...
In settings/system/advanced I changed first and second item to 30 en 40 seconds...
When I push the on/off button everything seems to be turned off...
What to do?
Thanks

So "Turn off device" doesn't work? What ROM are you using?
When I push the on/off button on the upper left edge of the diamond, the screen turns black and all buttons are turned off... just like it should..
I want the same thing to happen after (let's say) 30 seconds..
Now the screen gets a bit more "unclear" but never really trurns off.... (completely black...)
Hop you understand it better now.
Thanks
I think I understand. I'm trying to localize the problem. If, in the Power settings you set Turn off Device to 40s, it should do just that.
If it doesn't, there are two possiblities:
A program you installed won't let the device to turn off.
A bug in the ROM you are using.
Please note that the official ROMs don't have this problem, so if that's your case, perhaps you can give a list of the software you installed to see if we can identify the culprit.
I don't consider a hardware failure, as the hard button seems to be working.
I downloaded the HTC new rom version 1.93.404.1 NLD and installed it (Diamond works much better now)
Installed programms:
Tomtom
Data on the run
Nodata
TF3D config
Total commander
Spb Time
Advanced config
S2P
Sprite backup
That must be all I think
Thanks you for your kind help
Your reply rang a bell!!!
In Spd Timer there is a setting: "No sleep on timers"
It was checked.
I unchecked it and now everything seems to be OK...
I still need to study what the setting itself does
Thanks (helping without knowing it... must be great)

Glad I could point you in the right direction

Hi, I have discovered that Direct Push e-mail is causing the wizard to power on at certain intervals and for me at least was causing significant power drains under crossbow. Here are 2 fixes.
1. This is for those that use an exchange server and/or direct push email.
-Locking the device stops the wizard powering on and still allows use of direct push email.
2. Those that don't wish to lock their device and don't use direct push email.
-Change the following Registry values:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\
HeartbeatIncrement DWORD: 0
InitialHeartbeat DWORD: 0
MinHeartbeat DWORD: 0
MaxHeartbeat DWORD: 0
Reset
Hopefully this will work for you guys it did for me, no power on all night.
EDIT: Sorry after longer testing No. 2 appears not to work however I still think it has something to do with Activesync and Direct Push E-mail. The settings reset themselves after soft reset.
It works!
Confirmed. Locking the device via the Today screen plug-in prevents the undesired power ups.
I am using a small program called Device Lock with the Suspend option. I set Button 4(Hold) to Device Lock. Sometimes it wakes up immediately after suspending, but I can press the power button and it stays off.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=261277
I discovered this yesterday also.
He means using the today screen plugin to lock it, not just having buttons locked except power in case you weren't aware of that.
No wonder I never had this problem. I use batterystatus to lock my screen all the time. Isn't the lock nice? Very convinent. My only hope is if there is anyway to unlock it with one hard button.
Oh. I was using the Lock in the control panel set to lock after 0 minutes of idle so when I pressed power it would power down and lock.
I'll have to find a better way to lock.

using the batterystatus, not the lock in the control panel.
i meant the regedits, it didnt fix the problem...i dont like to lock my phone when not in my pocket...
i hit the lock button on the today screen and i watch it turn on and off every minute... still... it didn't help ...
I wonder how did faria fix it in his ROM.
any update? wokring solution ?
Faria has the only known solution to this but is refusing to share that knowledge by looks of things, maybe so he can forces users to use his own cooked ROM or something...
the only working solution i have seen was the one rusigor suggested and that was taking the device password off. and im believer because it worked for me. so im sticking with that. Also i noticed that my battery is lasting like alot lot lot lot lot lot lot longer now. before i would go to bed with the phone at 80% battery and when i would wake up it would be like at 30. The last couple nights i would go to bed with it at 59 and woke up and it was at 55. I was shocked. so thats why im sticking with this method.

I hope it's just a case of him not knowing of this thread! Has anyone PM'd him?
I will if no one has yet.

Sorry meant to update this, fix has been around for a little while now.
Untick Turn off backlight for both battery and mains power and this will cure the problem however you may still have automatic power offs.
I don't use push, nor do I have an Exchange server configured. I also had a problem with automatic power-ups. I found that having the device configured to display the owner info screen when it is switched on caused it to power up on its own shortly after it was switched off.
Getting rid of the owner info display on power-up did the trick for me.
I'd love to know how those two things are connected.
I found a solution for me
I also think is more related with the screen light as I used the WM6 MB and i put the screen auto off after 30 sec, and it was waking up very frequently. I completly removed the screen light auto off and now my phone never wakes up alone (just when it should be =D).
Hope it helps!
There seems to be a problem with the Kaiser. After finishing a phone call on the Kaiser the backlight goes off and stays off and I cannot access the Start menu. I can access all other functions but backlight stays off and one still cant get into the Start menu from anywhere on the screen. I have to press the power off button quickly once and then wait a second, press it again to be able to access the start button or the light to come on. This is definitely a bug in the tytn II and I hope HTC is doing something about this.
I have experienced the same thing.
After the phone call. I did not hang up.
Instead the person at the other end hangs up and I tries to navigate away then the phone appears to lock up.
Could not turn the phone off either. Had to wait until the phone turned itself off. Once restarted everything ok...

I noticed this as well...
pretty crazy.
Hmm I haven't that problem. Danish HTC TyTN II
Do you folks have the password set? I have heard that that can cause this problem. Try to turn off password checking.
Hi @ All, any news about that problem?
I have a solution
I had the same problems and after installing all the ROM's and still have the same problems, I found out that the problem is not in the ROM it is in the 3G network, disable the 3G network and set it to GSM and all the problems will disappear.
This was nothing to do with 3g.
It was a pre-programmed fast sleep setting that was flawed. Download Kaiser Tweak and turn off all the sleep during call options.
Difference in memory in use
I have problem with my TyTN II, I donĀ“t know why, but when I control the state of the memory in use, it seems to be 112 MB in use and 19,4 MB free. But when I control every item (Applicationdata, Confimgr, ProgramFiles etc., even including hidden files) and calculate total then it seems to be only 45 MB in use. Can anyone explain this
thanks
Hi everyone,
I just switched from the Touch to the Kaiser and have a problem with the device not going into powersave mode. I am NOT talking about the backlight settings but the power settings that turns off the device after x min of inactivity. The device never turns off for some reason.
This was working fine on the Touch. Is this a common problem on the Kaiser ?
Thanks

You don't mention what settings you have it set to. When you tap the battery icon (top bar) and then "advanced", are there time limits set?
If there are - untick the boxes and exit the screen "OK"
Then return to the screen and tick the boxes again and enter time limits exit with "OK"
Personally I always turn to standby manually. WM5/6 often seems to prefer this. WM5 in particular has a habit of not coming out of standby if it goes to standby by itself. The Kaiser seems MUCH more tolerant of this but I just got the habit of doing it manually.
Mike
My backlight settings are not set and my Power settings are as follows:
Turn off device if not used for "1 min" is SET for batt power and NOT SET for external power.
I will try unchecking everything and rechecking to see if that helps.
Thanks,
BTW, TouchFlo scrolling is horrible on the Kaiser compared to the Touch especially in the Internet browser. Surprising for a device with so much more memory and horsepower over the Touch...
i had a same problem with my kaiser... Try to hard reset u phone after hard reset you wont see any problem...
Thanks for the suggestions..
I did a hard reset and the problem remains. It is very strange because if I manually power of the phone it does wake up when I call comes in bit stays on after that.
During a call however the screen goes off !!!
I did the recommended reg hack to stop the screen from blacking out during a call but it still does it.
Has there been any updates to the original (HTC) firmware since release ?
Thanks again.
check this:
\HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastDormantDisplayDuringCall
from "1" to "0" will leave the screen on long enough for voicemail use (probably falling back to the backlight/power settings)...

From this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330583&highlight=screen+off
My Tilt is my very first WM device, so hopefully I'm not completely clueless here. I had a few hangs a week on my Tilt, so I thought I'd go ahead and flash the HTC ROM to it. Since then, however, it still hangs occasionally and seems to be much more laggy than it used to be. A host of new annoyances has popped up too. Hopefully just little reg tweaks, but I have to ask.
I don't want to overwhelm with a laundry list, so I'll just try and get these solved one at a time. Obviously I'd like some advice on the performance as well, but here's the first annoyance:
Under the "Power -> Advanced" tab, I have it set to "turn off device" after 10 minutes "on external power." Similarly, under the "Backlight -> External Power" tab, I have it set to turn off not being used for 5 minutes.
So why, I wonder, when I charge my phone at night, does the phone shine brightly all throughout the night?!?
Thanks for being so helpful.
they stay on when they are charging by default. it's how they work

I do the same thing it charges fine.
-McMex
Thanks - I've been hitting sleep up 'til now. It's just that under the Tilt ROM, the thing used to put itself to sleep while plugged in just fine. Now it doesn't. Oh well, I guess I can just hit the button.
So my next problem: On the HTC Home plugin, under the "applications" tab, there's a button that rotates the screen. When I hit that, however, it rotates the wrong way - so that if the keyboard is open, the screen is upside down. Similarly, when I start a slideshow "optimized for landscape images," the slideshow starts "upside down."
My tilt is upside down, too!
Hey, did you ever figure that out? My tilt is upside down now in landscape mode, too. I have the Dutty v3 Dual Touch on there but I swear it worked for awhile... I installed the HTC Home customizer and ran the kaiser tweak program so maybe something in there messed me up...
Did you ever get yours fixed?
So i just got the Tilt last week. Been using it every day and would say that I am in pretty good understanding of how it works.
My understanding:
Screen dim is set to 10seconds - Meaning after 10 seconds of no use screen will dim (wont be as bright) this works perfectly every time
"Turn off divice if not usef for 1min" - From my understanding it should turn off the screen after 1 minute of no use and shouldnt come on unless I press the power button on the right.
This is where I am having issues. It wont turn the screen off.. it just stays at dimmed.
First let me explain how i have the phone set up since I think it has something to do with that.
I use it for phone calls, email (through Exchange), and text messaging.
Ive tested it a couple times and the screen turns off just fine if I have direct push (email feature) turned off in the Comm Manager.
However with the Direct push ON it seems to not wanna turn off... just dims.
At first I thought... well maybe it cant get email pushed to it if its turned off... but nope, if I manually turn the screen off (by pressing the side button).. and email myself.. sure enough the phone comes out of the turn off state and tells me I got an email... same deal with texts.
So I am dumbfounded. What is not letting it turn off the screen? The only thing that is running in tast manager is ActiveSync.
Thanks in advance for any help
Where do you leave your 400$+ device that it is unattended for over a minute? Mine is out, on, check mail, off, back in pocket.
it has nothing to do with being unattended... i just feel like i should be able to..
Pick it up -> Turn on -> Glance for new emails -> Put it back down.
Without having to turn off the screen every time... seems like it should do that on its own.. otherwise it would be kind of pointless to have that auto turn off after 1 min function.. right?
So... since that function is there.. and its not doing it.. that means something is wrong. so im trying to figure out what is wrong.
It could be a lot of factors so its going to be time consuming to find the exact cause of the problem. Not sure if your willing to hard reset the device to attempt troubleshooting from a hard reset with no other programs installed to rule out the ROM itself your using or if its third party software or possibly other changes/tweaks you might have made.
I know it works as it should for me with the Q-Mobile 1.2 ROM. Both the dimming and device power off setting work fine. And I have Push email enabled so activesync is always connected.

Some of us have a life...
I have the same issue... stock ATT rom, with lots of stuff on it. I'm pretty accustomed to using the power button to turn off the screen when I'm done. All 3 tilts I've had have this issue. I know it also happened running the stock HTC rom.
I am interested in a solution if anyone has any ideas.
I believe I had the same problem. There are two places to change the dim settings. One setting is under:
Settings\Systems\Power\Advance
Another is under:
Settings\System\Backlight\BatteryPower.
At that point I would make sure all these numbers match up that way you know it will dim and shut off at the correct time. One time is to dim, the other is to shut the screen off. Hope were talking about he same problem, and see if that helps.

Welcome. I had the same trouble, as I was irritated that the screen would shut off at 1 minute. Sometimes programs or installations take longer then that and with Wifi it can disconnect. Glad I could help.
The problem is related to Activesync and Exchange direct push.
I had the same problem. As long as Activesync is connected to Exchange the phone does not enter standby.
Try disabling direct push and kill activesync and then see if it works.
I had to configure activesync to check for mail every 30mins instead of direct push to work around the problem.
If anybody has direct push and standby working please let me know. I'm sick of this workaround.

Excellent.. changing the setting in both of the places mentioned above to 1minute fixed the issue.. now i have direct push and active sync on.. and it turns off after 1 min yay
Just curious, anyone have any problems with their screens turning back on after being off? I'm pretty sure this is related to my check email interval. Its not a problem for me anymore since I've been using slide2unlock, but before then Id pull my device out and all kinds of programs would be running...but I still get awakened in the middle of the night by a bright screen if I do not put my phone face down on my nightstand.

I've had that. Mine's related to SPB backup which runs at 3AM. Also, pressing any key brings this device out of standby as opposed to my Hermes where only the power button would do this. I don't really like this "feature" much as I now need to have keylock enabled to keep the phone from waking up.

Hi:
I hope I understood your issue correctly.
If you want phone to ONLY wake when you push the power button, you need to go to Start/Settings/System/KeyLock There, select the first option, which is lock all buttons except power button.

That is really strange. I'm using Dutty V3 and just tried activating Direct push. Setting Backlight and power timeout to one minute. After leaving the device for one minute the screen dims but does not enter standby.
If I kill activesync it does enter standby but Direct push stops working.
