i agree, would be nice with a nicer app to match the interface..

Could you be more specific? I am very happy with the sms speed on mine, I'd say it is the fastest I've had on a wm device. There are plenty of other sms apps but I feel the default one does it's job just fine for me. Smiley sms, PocketCM, Hush sms, Palm threaded sms and vito sms just off the top of my head. Google them and give them a try. Hush sms is cool because it allows you to send class 0 messages which can be fun!

AT&T Tilt Instant Message & Text Message?

Hello,
I was wondering if there is such a application for WM6.1 where an AIO instant messenger program is built into the standard text messaging application?
If that's confusing (which it probably is) It's a pain trying to switch back in forth between texts and IM's, so im trying to simple it down with combining the instant messaging with the threaded text messaging that comes with WM6.1.
-Thanks for all the help
Anybody have an answer? =)
Not sure what you mean by AIO, but services like yahoo messenger (for desktop) have the ability to send you IM as text messages.
I mean by AIO as in all the instant messengers like AIM, MSN, Yahoo etc. in one program.
If it helps, i'm trying to combine text messaging and instant messaging into one simple program.
I don't think there's anything that works the way you want. Truth be told, there's not many good IM solutions for WM -- Beejive and Palringo are probably the best and both have a few drawbacks.
I believe there may be a DESKTOP apps you can configure to send you incoming IMs as text messages, but that's not exactly what you're asking and I don't know any all-in-ones that handle it either.
It's a good idea, though! I'm a big fan of the built-in SMS messenger. Clean, easy to read, and usable. It doesn't have any sort of "buddy list," though, so that would be an issue.
I think the more likely solution would be to find an AIO IM app that ALSO handles SMS -- I think Nimbuzz might but I can't stand that app in general.

Dashwire Going Away!!

This sucks!!
http://blog.dashwire.com/2009/10/05/whats-happening-to-dashwire-com/
So, any suggestions for a replacement? Microsoft's MyPhone is OK, but it doesn't give me the ability to view and respond to SMS messages via my computer like Dashwire.
Sucks, sucks, sucks.
Jamie
Shame, Dashwire was pretty slick. myPhone is probably the best alternative now, though.
Well, actually, I'd say that the best alternative (and what I do) is to use Exchange to back up all your calendar / contacts info (I use Google Sync) and use MS Live Mesh to back up documents and photos.
Still no desktop SMS support, but I use Google Voice to handle that...
Google Voice
What does Google Voice do for your SMS messages? I'm not familiar with it.
Thanks!

It does nothing for SMS sent to your regular cell number, but you can send and receive SMS messages from a Google Voice number. These messages can be forwarded to your phone or email, and you can send outgoing messages through the GV number using various apps or a web interface.
I don't have a text plan, so I don't use SMS a lot. The Google Voice workaround is enough if I just want to get ahold of somebody, but it wouldn't be a good solution for a heavy texter until somebody figures out how to make it work more "natively" with WM phones.

Flexilis Mobile Security seems interesting enough, though it doesnt cover your needs for remote SMS sending and receiving.
You can learn more about it at: https://beta.flexilis.com/

Messaging apps...

I love Handscent SMS but there are a few problems....
When I sent messages people seem to get them twice...at least with MMS...
When I get messages my notification tone plays twice...and it's annoying. Even though I have already set handscent as the default messaging program it still does these things...is there a way to avoid it?
I tried Chomp SMS and it said something about disabling notifications in Android. I haven't got to test this much but it may work for Handscent also. I prefer Handscent so far over Chomp. The layout is a little nicer.

go into your stock messaging app settings (not handcent settings) and disable notifications. that should fix the double notification tone.
dont know about the double mms thing you are having though. i love handcent and i refuse to use the default messaging app
I sometimes get double replies from people through handcent though I don't think I'm actually receiving the SMS twice. It seems like some glitch :x .. as for MMS.. I'm not too sure but Handcent has a dedicated forum you should try visiting with a question as they would probably have a better answer X_x

What's the best sms app?

I'm literally looking for an sms app that looks like the iphone sms. Which is the best free and paid apps?
Handcent
Sent from my Zio using XDA Premium App
agreed. Handcent is what u'd be after if ur looking for an iphone-ish sms app.
That being said, it still doesnt hold a candle to the responsiveness of the stock sms app, even with the overclock.
I do however love the bells and whistles of handcent (mainly the popup box on incoming sms msgs.).

I totally agree with you Spz0, I've been using Handcent sms now since 2 days after i got my phone, the only other app I had used was GoSms which has alot of the same features as handcent, but I stuck the handcent just the same. I do have some issues sometimes though, like after deleting a message I'll end up receiving it again. I've been trying to figure that one out since day 1. However, I love that app either way.

Ive pretty much resorted to "Go" for everything but launcher. Go SMS, Go contacts, Go dialer. My opinion is that its smooth, functional, and has tons of features ( Easier contact search options for dialing ect )
Tried handcent sms and I didn't like the responsiveness. I just decided to stick with the stock sms app as it is more responsive.

Modding txt message screen?

Hi,
I upgraded my galaxy s (Canadian version) to gingerbread. I came across the youtube video for Kite UI and loved the IM interface. The default screen for my message from cell contacts looks bland, I'm not talking about those apps that tie in all your online instant messaging programs, I'm talking about incoming txt messages. I'm looking for something to give my txt messages a nice UI with avatars, if it is also tied into an app that would include txt's and IM's, then that would be good as well.
I know kite ui is kinda dead in the water right now, any alternatives to achieve my desired result?
Thanks
Try Go SmS app, very nice and you can customize the whole thing. Handcent and Chomp are also good.
