Does anyone know of a text to speech software for Windows Mobile 5/6? I'm looking for something that will read e-mail out loud.
Voice Command 1.6 will read email headers.
Thanks. I have VC1.6. I'm looking for something that will read the e-mail body to me while I'm driving.
As a follow up to this, does anyone know of an application to read out text messages whilst driving along? Its not very safe when the popup comes on screen covering up Tomtom.

I saw this one but didn't know if it would read the e-mail from within Outlook or if I had to copy/paste the words into a document. If you still have it installed, could you let me know if you can tell it to read an e-mail from within Outlook? At the very least, open a message when it arrives then this program reads the message after you instruct it to do so?

Thanks, this says it'll read the e-mail as it arrives and even allow me to reply or delete, etc. If you use it, do you know if it'll read over BlueTooth headset? If it will then It's most likely the perfect program and must have for the Athena.

I used an earlier version on the Blue Angel and it did what it said it would do. Not used it on the Ameo though.. But you can downlad a free trial and see if it works over BT.

Thanks. I've downloaded it but haven't had a chance to test it out yet.
I had been looking for something like this for some time. Well, thanks to this thread I have downloaded and tried it. Conclusion: very useful, though could be improved.
1. Voice quality is not very good.
2. Reads the emails and very accurate.
3. Functionally quite rich - though I have only tried reading emails as this is what I was after.
However, I havnt figured out how to read emails as and when they arrive. I seems tha I have to start the application to read the emails. If anyone has any ideas, please share them. Thanks

Hey I know this is several years later, but like me I bet your STILL using windows mobile ... so if so.... you need to look at this thread, post 8 in particular. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407630
the xda user posted a link to software (freeware) that will intercept incomming text messages and read them... EXACTLY what you were looking for. Now... if we could only find software that will take dictations and text them up for us freeing us from typing all the time.
Good luck peeps.
I did a search but couldn't find any topics, hope this hasn't been covered before.
Recently I've lost two girlfriends (one after the other) because of texts that should not be on my phone. I'm starting to get slightly annoyed with the repetition. I probably don't deserve help on this...
Obviously I could lock my phone with a code, but this raises suspicion. So what would be great is if I could edit the reg to disable any SMS notification at all (and perhaps rely on the HTC Home to show when I have new SMSs). Is there a reg edit for this?
Alternatively, is there a reg edit to stop the notification from showing who it's from and the first few lines?
Failing both of those are there any other suggestions, other than flight mode, that I could stop untimely texts from being seen by prying eyes?

You need a Bat phone aka 2nd SIM and only give out the number on that one.
Delete all incriminating txts from inbox as well as sent items, my mate got found out from his sent items. He has the bruises to prove it.

Instead of trying to make seem like you aren't unfaithful/don't care about the girls/flirt etc... Have you considered just stop sending the txts?
If you're getting messages that aren't supposed to be on your phone, call your provider. If you are trying to weasel out of the consequences of something you did ... suck it up.
I wouldn't date you either.

It's not the sending that's the problem, it's the replies! I'm not trying to excuse my behaviour, but it's not always that simple. That is to say that jealousy can blind the reader sometimes.
i guess your having problems with the girl actually going through your phone and seeing who sends the txts? if its just the pop up box you get when u get a new msg you can go into sounds and notifications and turn it off. i have been using palm threaded app for a while now and it has a privacy mode, it will give you the pop up box, but wont say what it says or who from. best thing i can advise to you is to just delete your txt msgs, its the easiest and only fail safe way. oh and make sure you delete them out of the deleted folder, hehe.
Thanks Cashin. I know deleting is the easiest and cheapest way, but doing that is actually quite laborious, as you have to remember Inbox, Sent Items & Deteted Items. Also, I don't like to guard my phone 24/7, I like it to sit on the bed side table sometimes without being paranoid about the bright screen powering up with an sms.
I've trialled SecretSMS for an afternoon and it's perfect, so I purchased it. For predefined contacts, the light still powers up when you recieve a text, but no other notification, and a password protected inbox/sent items. Great stuff.
Hi all,
due to the fact my provider has now started charging me for accessing voicemails and will not include voicemail access in my inclusive minutes I have turned off the voicemail answerphone on my t-Mobile MDA Vario III (Kaiser), what i'm looking for is a programto run on the PDA that will answer a call after say 45 seconds of ringing and act like an answerphone and record any messages direct to the PDA. I have searched for answerphone but without luck and the only program I can find via Google is iSecretary, but that aparantly isn't fully compatable with the Kaiser?. Has anybody got any ideas as to anything else available that will do this job, preferably free but if I have to pay for the ideal solution so be it.
Thanks

I'm afraid there is no solution, because of the limitations of the Kaiser (and many HTC devices) with the incoming sound.... (mic only)
A workaround should be available in iSecretary, recording loudspeaker -> mic, but this application crashed a lot on my Kaiser so removed it...
Also because it is not a nice solution anyway...everybody can 'enjoy' the voice message.

According to iSecretary the TYTNII is only "half supported" but it looks it would do everything you want.
- lifts the handset automatically when the preset time expires;
- plays the file to the caller;
- records your caller's message within the limits of preset time and hangs up;

I guess i'll have to try isecretary and see if it does enough to get me going, unfortunatly checking voicemail via a landline is not an option in my situation.

I did try iSecretary and it worked on some of the calls, about 2 out of the 10 I made to my phone. And like "Optimistisch_nl" said: the callers voice is on loudspeaker while leaving the message. Also the message that I recorded to tell people to leave a message doesn't play either for the caller.

You won't find a solution unless you buy e.g. a Nokia.....
Guys, ALWAYS check out the Wiki first. I've answered this very question at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...nswering machine for Windows Mobile released!
(also see the group http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Audio and call recording, answering machines )
In a word: no, don't expect much - WinMo is, by default, pretty much useless when it comes to local (!!) nswering machines. Should you really need them, go for Symbian.

I was also told that file sharing on WM is not possible by "CLEVER" people, but hypest told me that by setting up a ftp server on the ppc you could share folders that would be visible and able to be browsed by another ppc. Now if that is not "file sharing" then lets call it "sharing files". It works just the same as normal file sharing on Windows.

You should have asked me I've even reviewed & thoroughly compared FTP clients (along with mentioning FTP servers) for Windows Mobile - search for example for 'vxFtp' in the Wiki.
I'm looking for a lightwieght AIM client for WinMo. I have tried installing Agile Mobile but it wouldn't install. I would use the one that came in the ROM by default by ATT but it lowers your txt msgs with every IM you send. I'm looking for a free solution. When I had my iPhone I was able to use Mobile Meebo and/or iphone.beejive.com but none of these work on the kasier.
Which one do you all use? Much thanks.
Here you go, this one is my favorite. It was updated in 2000 but it's honestly the best AIM app I've found.

I use Slick.

i agree with the poster above me, use slick, it updates on occasion and is fairly simple to use.
Here i've attached the file. you need to update once you install it so don't be discouraged.
Seeing as you used Jive Talk in the past, you should try the WM6 alpha.

I assume that both Slick and the new Beejive use my phone's data plan so I won't be charged a text message for every IM sent, correct?

Palringo works nicely and on multiple networks. I use it for AIM, MSN, and Yahoo.
i've been using palringo as well...i like that it integrates google chat at well, and the FINALLY updated it about a month ago where you can continue to have multiple chats open rather than closing a chat w/ 1 person, to open up a chat w/ another.
but i'm always looking for something newer and better...
i'm really diggin the layout and the chat history function of slick...but i tried to get jivetalk up and running, the cab that i'm downloading from their website isn't opening up on my phone properly...anybody having problems w/ the program as well?
I've had Palringo for a while now and just installed BeeJive. Palringo uses less memory, connect faster, plain and simple. Plus if you have MSN or HOTMAIL contacts on your yahoo buddy list they show up in Palringo unlike BeeJive. Beejive is more appealing with alot of neat and promising features butof course uses more memory. I like BeeJive more because it's got a feel to it plus it has alot of option to mees around with.
I'm sticking with both of them for now, and will run either one depending on my mood

iChat either uses .Mac or AIM to chat. Find out if they use AIM.

I get this same error on my 8125 running the latest (213) TNT ROM.
URL Links
Does either Slick or Plaringo convert http links in messages to clickable URLs?
palringo does, slick does as well...the real stinky thing about slick is you can't just copy text from conversations...which i do a lot. Sometimes i like to just copy convos etc, palringo is nice because whenever someone sends you a link, whether it be a picture of a youtube, or website or w/e...it'll say "open in browser" or "copy to clipboard". slick you can kind of do the same thing, but it takes a hell of a lot longer

You know the lady voice that announces when the battery is almost dead, when you get a text message and reads it to you and all the other stuff...is there any way to change that text to speech voice to a different female voice? He's talking about Voice Commander. When you receive an email / sms you can run it and say 'Read SMS' or 'Read Email' and it will read any unread emails /sms
Very handy, esp. when driving

Come on now, of course I know what freakin' phone I'm using. That's like asking someone if they know what kind of car they drive and if they are sure about it.
Here's what you do to enable it:
Settings>Voice Command>
Check 'Enabled'
Check 'Messaging', 'Status' & 'Phone' boxes
The go to 'Notifications' and check 'Announce notifications through device speaker or wired headset only'
[/LIST]
Those directions above will read out loud the person calling you when you get a call, the person who sent you a SMS and what the SMS says, will read to you any email including the sender and subject line, but not the email and will also notify you when your battery is gonna die.
Trust me, it's a major attention-getter when your phone reads a text message to you when it comes in and people around you are like wtf was that. Plus it's great if you are lying in bed or something and your phone is across the room...you can hear what the message says and whether or not it's worth getting out of bed for. :-D
But anyway, if anyone knows how to change the voice please respond. Thanks!
Voice Command isn't installed on all Diamonds as standard and as I stated, there is no way to change the voices, I have searched for this myself before with no luck.
cool!

pretty sure you cant change the voice but i know there's a registry tweak to slow the voice down witch makes it easier to understand. I've just remembered I'm sure there's the tweak in Advance config hope this helps
yeah i have this enabled on my phone and its the best when your laying in bed and wonder if its worth looking at. You don't have it setup correctly, that's why.
Go into Voice Command and do this:
- Check all the boxes you want to use this service. (Phone, Messaging, Status, Etc.)
- Highlight 'Messaging' then click on 'Options' button then UNCHECK 'High Priority Messages Only' and CHECK 'Announce New Messages'. Do the same steps for others like 'Phone' and 'Status' to change it's options. Make sure you highlight it first.
