Contacts Photo ? Where to store them ? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi,
Sorry for my english
I made 256x256 photos in order to associate with my favorite contacts.
I save my photos where I found ~-Avatar-x.png files (My Documents\My pictures)
It works well, except that now I have my contacts photos in the photo album ! And I don't want to see it here.
I don't understand why the ~-Avatar-x.png files are not visibles in my album, and my photos files are visible
Can you help me ?
Thanks

best way of adding contact photo's is with outlook.
just synchronize your diamond with outlook.
add pictures to all your contacts
synchronize again.
were the pictures are stored, i do not know, but i works great.

That is not what I can read on few posts here.
Everybody say in order to have a best quality you have to do this on the HTC not in Outlook....
And It don't explain to me, why ~Avatar-x.png files are not showed in photo album.

ease of use vs best quality.
personally i want to use my storage space for other stuff than contact photo's

how i did it:
1. put the pics in diamond.
2. use the favorites contacts (important!) to add the pics to contacts.
3. sync with yr outlook.
4. delete pics from diamond.
not sure that 256X256 is the best size. use 480x640 (diamond resolution) or even bigger and the diamond will take care to fit them. i am using the old pics from trinity (240X320) and i get some black margins...
first do it with 2-3 pics and check out if it's ok. complete for all yr contacts you wish to add.

These are also the steps I followed and I have very crisp pictures in TF3D- I previously thought the ones in the Diamond ads were fabricated but if you follow the above steps you get the best quality. Also important to note that once you synchronise all your pics will be on Outlook/Exchange (whichever you use) so you'll not have to do them after each flash/hard reset

TF3D crashes adding contacts to shortcuts

I have noticed that syncing contacts with my mac through "missing sync" when I try to add a contact to the "shortcuts list" (the tab "people") tf3d crashes on save.
I think it happens with contacts with a picture added.
no problem if I sync with exchange. the problem is that I am giving up my exhange account in order to keep mobileme and no other mail service.
any suggestion?
You are right, i have the same problem.
This must be a bug in Missing Sync.

I don't think its a bug in missing sync because the pictures load properly in the phone agenda. You can see them when you clic on a contact. Maybe there are stored with a different format or size that is not supported by TF3D.
Anyway this bug is really annoying, and still not fixed in ROM 1.93
A lot of my contacts have a picture, can't add them.
How can we report it to HTC ?
Same here, but ...
I have the same problem , but not for all contacts.
Sync with MAC. I think that the problem with internal pic format the contacts application is compressing the picture. If pic. size is small enough (not too big , let say) everything is OK.\

Today i wanted to test the problem with SyncMate.
But i couldn't get it to work with my Diamond.
Could anybody test it with SyncMate, if there is a Picture-Add-Problem in TF3D too?
I have tested with syncmate and I have the same issue
I get an answer from the MarkSpace-Support:
Hello
We have received reports of this from other customers. I am checking with engineers here and will let you know when I have more information about this issue.

I have the solution!
When you reduce the pixels of your photos in your contacts on the mac to 120x120 pixels, and then use Missing Sync, all will work!
Now you can add your contact to the favorits in TF3D!
is there a way to do this with the mac address book.app ?
i only have this zoom slider for my pictures but no way to actually reduce the size of the picture, do i?
thanks for help

yeah i figured it had to do with the size..i noticed that after i changed the sizes of my contact pix and added them to the diamond, problem solved...but then once i synced with my mac, i noticed it changed the pix some how some way...it added some sort of a black frame around it which caused the crashing...
but is there a way to lower the size without having to add every pic again?
can i just somehow reduce size?
i use this as a template, then i crop the images to fit this, and it works great

Quick contacts photo quality

Hello.
I've been wondering, why some of the photos which I place in quick contacts (in the touchFLO thing) looks good or bad?
All of those photos which I place there are big and I have no idea why some of them are shown very badly.
Do you know to fix that?
Possible Solution...
Hi there.
I also had this problem. What I found out is, that reloading the picture directly using the TouchFlo Interface (should be: Menu->Change Picture...) helps to improve the quality.
Re
yes, just go to the camera album, and add them to a contact via the option there, then they are perfect, I had the same problem before...
I might be wrong but this is most likely to do with Outlook
I sync my contacts with Outlook and all my pictures but the recent ones had pictures assigned via outlook.
Those few that were assigned by the phone (in contacts) come out very clear and excellent quality
Those assigned in outlook are grainy at best
Outlook compresses (heavily) the pictures so unless there is a way around this, you are better assigning the pictures on your phone
as they said, you have to asigne your pictures threw the htc album, then will then keep all the good quality

If this is the case I reckon it is a crap solution. Wonder if there is a way to tell Outlook not to compress the images so much. Also I notice if you change the photo on the phone side the new photo does not migrate across to Outlook. So if you ever reflash your phone all these changes will be lost.
check out the thread below for solutions on how to add contact pics at better resolutions...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=412202
This is proving to be a real pain. At first when my phone synced with Outlook all the pictures where bad quality, so I placed a new folder in My Pictures called contacts and placed 15 contact pictures of good quality in there to use. I asigned each picture to the contacts and all looked great.
Next day I sync my phone and all the pics are imported from outlook again and look ****. Sooooo, I change them all back again with my contact pictures and change the sync settings to "replace items on desktop". Trouble is now, those 15 contacts will not sync at all and I get an error.

Contacts photograph best size

Hello,
I created this post because I didn't find (even in Google) any answer to the following question : what is the best size of picture attached to contacts ? Because I was using WM5 on my ETEN M600 that displayed a very small picture, so I attached small photograph to all of my Exchange contacts, but on my Diamond these pictures looks horrible. So I will have to make new pictures of my contacts, but which size ?
Thanks
Hakkai94
not sure about the exact size, but i had made pics of about 200x200 pixels for using as caller ID...they look pretty nice on the screen.
i guess since the screen width is 480 pixels, and the pics occupy about half the width, u would be safe with using a res of 240x240 on ur pics
u have to add them separately thru the touchflo 3d interface, coz the images get resized if u add them thru the contacts app
it's quite simple adding them too...
1. resize the pics on ur pc and copy them to ur phone
2. go to the people tab in touchflo
3. select a favorite who pic u wanna change
4. the right softkey will have an option to change picture
5. navigate to the right folder, select a pic, and the highres pic gets added
if ur flash ur rom or hard reset, u would have to do it again...else u would get pixelated pics from the standard wm contacts app
260*260
+ the above procedure
Synchronize contacts
On my phone I'm using the 200x200 size, but you could go upwards without any problems. The trick is to make the photo association on WM's Outlook and then let the Active Sync do his job. This way you have the large photo and the "backup" assured.
Thanks !
For the procedure, I prefer to modify contact informations directly on Outlook on my PC, then synchronize my Diamond to my Exchange Server using Activesync and Wifi.
If you add the pics through touchflo they get stored aswell in the wm contact app(hi res).
If you sync them with outlook they will be updatrd hi res on your pc aswell.
the method above works also.
gr
Something to remember if you make your photo associations in Outlook on the PC is that only low resolution pictures will be generated and it will look bad on the phone. The best method is to do it through TouchFlo like described earlier.
I had the same issue with trying to get clear pictures and all I ended up doing was actually taking a photo with the phone of a photo of the person on the computer monitor, very easy and quick way. You can even warp the photo's if you twist the phone upwards when taking the picture.
the problem is with the resolution outlook saves the pictures in...i had added hi-res pics thru outlook n synced them with my htc touch (elfin)...but outlook by default saves them in some thumbnail format (32x32 i suppose), and comes up pixelated when seen at a higher res
that's why i found adding pics directly thru touch flo gives u the proper resolution/clarity
If you take the picture with the Diamond, it will store it with a 240x320 resolution, so I think this is the best resolution to use.
I took my pictures with the phone and Outlook seems to manage them properly (I get the picture of the contact also when I receive an e-mail on my desktop). No loss of quality.

Please recommend me a photo sharing site.

I've spent a couple of hours looking at the big photo sharing sites but I'm sort of confused as to which one I should go with. I'm mainly going to use it to share photos with friends and family. Nothing public. I've looked at the following sites:
Flickr
Windows Live Photos
Picasa Web Albums
Photobucket
My ISP's own photo sharing.
Here is my criteria:
1. When inviting friends, they should not have to sign up before viewing photos. Most will not bother signing up. I should be able to send them a link via email and then when they click on it, it should just bring them to the gallery.
2. When I upload new photos or update an album, the site should automatically notify my friends and family via email that something has changed.
3. Possibly have friends upload their own photos to the same album or new album. I could create a public user id on that site so that my friends and family can log in using that account. Rather than creating an account of their own. Couple this with #2 above, I think it would work well.
Can somebody recommend a photo sharing site that can do this or anything that is close enough to the criteria above?
Thanks in advance.
you wanna so much
maybe if you have a server and make your own you can give all this offer to your friends.
I use both flickr, ms photo sharing and googles Picasa
all of them are free and works for my needs
I've decided to use Windows Live Services because it does most of what I need... and also because I have a hotmail account. Those of my friends that have live or hotmail accounts can be on my "network" and they receive updates of new photos that get uploaded by me and vice versa. they can comment on my photo and I've given them permission to upload their own photos - like when we go out to a dinner party and they have pics of me, they can upload it to my album.
Those that don't have a live/hotmail account are still able to view my album, but they will not be able to add additional photos.
With the addition of Windows Live Photo Gallery, I don't even need to open a browser to upload photos, I can do it all from within that app. I found that it uploads to flickr accounts too.
Nice, I think Microsoft has done a decent job with these Live services.
with the program gladinet cloud desktop
you can access your live dirs such as photo sharing as a drive
Z in my computer
I use that to easy navigate files around using total commander

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try.
This might sound obvious, but have you tried facebook?
So many people have a facebook account these days that you shouldn't particularly need to worry about them having to sign up just to view your photos, and it should do everything else you need.
Alternatively, flickr is probably your next best bet.

Actually, yes, I've tried facebook. The problem with it is that I haven't figured out how to share photos with specific people (like family only). If I upload some pictures of my kids, it seems like your entire friend list can view these photos. Not good considering that I have some friends who are just acquaintances.
I've been playing around with Windows Live and the more I use it the more I'm liking it. The Windows Live Photo Gallery (an install to your PC) makes uploading photos so easy. Also, the web interface for Windows Live Services looks very good... unlike Google's.
The one thing that I love about Windows Live Photos is that you can share photos with people who are not a part of Windows Live. You basically send out a specialised URL to an email address and that person just clicks it to view the photo gallery. People who are on Windows Live and are a part of your network have even more options. They get instant updates on when you add photos or comment on a photo. Not only this, Windows Live is about permissions. When you setup an album, you have several options on who you want to share it with and what they can do with it (ie. upload their own photos). I don't think anyone else has this kind of functionality.
The other thing that I just discovered with Windows Live is that if you have a camera phone (who doesn't nowadays) and you have a data plan, you can actually upload photos to specific albums from your phone. All you do is enable the feature in Windows Live and for each album assign a keyword + secret word. This keyword+secretword combination makes up a unique email address. Hence, once you've taken the photo, just email it to the unique email address and it gets put into your album automatically and instantly. All the people on your network will get notified of a new photo. That's pretty neat...
Microsoft has really done a good job with their Live services.... now, if only they could get the Live calendar to sync to my WM device OTA... then I would consider becoming a MS fanboy.
ckl...that's very good info on windows live! I'll check it out since it sounds a lot more flexible than the Flickr I'm using...
I've always been a big fan of Picasa. It's one of the Google services that's being integrated with mobile devices along with PC and Mac platforms. So not only do you have online access, but also mobile/desktop access. I likey :].

[Q] Contact picture / TouchDown

Hello all,
I have the program Touchdown from Nitrodesk installed on my DHD.
Although I have used the copy function in TouchDown to copy all contacts to my phone I notice that most of my contacts with pictures are not actually copied with pictures. They are available in the "persons" stored on the phone, but I am missing the picture.
The result is that all HTC applications are not showing the pictures. This is highly inconvenient :
-incoming call show only the name, not the picture
-HTC widgets show only the name, not the picture
I am quite sure this is not a foreseen situation, but I do not understand what I am doing wrong, any hint would be appreciated !
regards,
Ruud
