US Diamond confirmed to AT&T - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

This thread is to make searching easier, nobody made anything about it so I figured I'd prevent future questions. The US Diamond passed FCC with 850/1900mhz WCDMA, meaning it is undoubtedly an AT&T phone in the near future.

convert 3g from us to european

Hi,
I bought my HTC diamond in the US, but live in europe.
Obviously, I can't connect to the 3g network here.
Is there anything I could do? If I install European ROM will it work?
if so - which ROM should I install?
My current ROM - 1.93.422.4 WWE, 08/13/08
Thanks for your help,
Mike
It is not about the ROM but the hardware of the Diamond. There are different hardware revisions. Go to bootloader and check what you have.
It is something like DIAM100
Diam110, 64m, spl-1.93.0000
anything i can do?
thanks man!

Most european diamonds are diam100 i think, you need to check what bands you diamond supports then check the bands the network/s you wanna use, use for there 3G/HSDPA Services, see if any are compatible
how do i check which bands my diamond supports?
I just had a look on google for you mate and this is what i came up with
The US 3G unlocked Diamond supports AT&T's 850/1900MHz HSDPA network, but not T-Mobile's US 3G bands. It is dual band 3G, so there's also no support for Euro 3G. It's a quad band GSM world phone with EDGE (850/900/1800/1900MHz), and that means you can make a phone call anywhere in the world GSM service is available, and you'll have access to the slower GPRS and EDGE data networks across the world. Since it's unlocked, you can use it with any carrier's SIM.
So it looks like it duznt support Euro 3G Bands, Sorry
thats a shame..
thanks anyway
thats a shame..
thanks anyway
I cant get 3G/HSDPA with orange here anyway, it dont bother me, i just steal broadband from unsecure wifi routers lol
*Double Post* Thats wot u get for stealing broadband lol
I'm in an opposites position here...
Live in the US with a European DIAM100...lol
Hello I have a European and like to trade it for a US version.
Also I'm sure like in in almost any Phones the UMTS Antenna is the same it is only limited by the Software (Radio) Big guys even on XDA developers denid that on the new Google Nexus one but HTC/Google confirmed it is ONly the "RADIO". GUess there is the whole world with one Standard and USA/ Canada with least than 6 different standards not compatibel to the rest of the World. THe Hardware guys pruduce for this development Country USA 7 extra and incompatibel HArdware version. It is haard to beleive and from any manufacture standpoint totaly inefficent.
So i would try first the regular Radios and good luck.

using vzw LTE device outside USA ?

LTE cards are basically next gen GSM sim cards, right?
Will a Verizon (cdma) phone that is LTE capable like the droid bionic work outside the USA?
Since LTE needs an LTE sim card, would an LTE device work outside the USA simply by removing the LTE card and inserting a local country sim card?
Thanks!
No the radio frequency is different.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
If your device has an antenna that supports GSm then yes it will work. You wont get LTE of course.
Ala my Tbolt works in Europe.
I didnt' think the Tbolt had any GSM capability, where in Europe does it work az?
I have seen conflicting information on whether or not the Bionic has a GSM radio in it. On GSM Arena, they have the specs up now, and emphasize that it doesn't have a GSM radio, but when the phone went through the FCC, there are articles talking about how it will be a 'world phone'.
Does anyone work for Verizon, or actually know the situation? It baffles me that there are no LTE devices that are also usable in Europe.
Verizon piggy backs on Vodaphone's network in Eruope.
Check out http://b2b.vzw.com/international/Global_Phone/Europe/Germany.html for proof.
It isn't cheap though

Thanks for that page. I see that Verizon uses that network overseas, but it doesn't appear as though the Bionic has a GSM chip in it, does it?
There is almost zero CDMA in Europe.
Yeah, you won't get 3g speeds - but you will have basic voice and sms service.
My phone stayed at 1x the whole trip - but the vast aray of free hotspots in Munich kept me well connected.
Bionic is supposed to be a world phone with 3G service on European frequencies:

Thank you for that link. It seems that for every link that I find that says that the Bionic has a GSM chip in it, there is another link that says that it doesn't. Phonearena is a good site, so this keeps me being hopeful, but then I find sites like this: http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_droid_bionic-3710.php
They don't have a GSM chip listed, and specifically say that, "it will not work on any GSM network worldwide."
I guess that we will not know until after it is released and Verizon is finally allowed to talk about it? I tried talking to Motorola about it, and I have e-mails out to Verizon, but I'm not getting any information back that is relevant.
Check the FCC page for the Bionic here.
It's referred to in the user manual.
Though I will say, I couldn't find the GSM stuff in the tests, so it may not have made the final cut. I guess we'll see for sure on Thursday.
The link you had was for the original Bionic (the Etna). It got canned and reworked. The code name for this version was the Targa. This also has a model number of XT875 vs. the original's XT865.
I am currently living and working overseas. I can confirm that 4G LTE does not work in China. Actually, neither does verizon's 3G, which i believe is evdo (?).
No dice on it being a world phone it looks like it.
Phone Arena posted the user manual from Verizon's site. The manual's been updated from what Moto submitted to the FCC. It looks like GSM/UMTS was dropped from the final version. Makes sense considering it wasn't mentioned in the FCC test reports.
Bummer.
I would like to make a note that this phone can work in specific countries. Yes GSM is used throughout the world as the primary network (freq. band) which this phone does not provide but, it can still work in countries that has the CDMA network capabilities.
If you look in the "Getting Started" guide which came with the phone, there are Three sections about the "Go Global", "International Calling", "International Romaning" service provided by Verizon.
What I find odd is why mention this service if this phone is not a world/global/international phone..
HERE is an Example of some Countries that this phone should work in.
Japan, Taiwan, China, South Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Bahamas, Canada, Mexico, India, etc....
for a full list you can find it on Verizon's Wireless Site.
I also called Verizon to verify if this phone will work in Japan specifically as it is a primary destination of mine. They told me that in their records, The Motorola Droid Bionic phone will work in Japan. There is though, supposedly, an issue in texting where you can receive but not send
Even if its on the list, call them to verify to be safe before making a trip with the phone.
I did also ask about Europe to verify since they use GSM and they said that it would not work there. I was testing to see if they would say something opposite to what was mentioned publicly... something possibly hidden lol
Note: The primary focus was, does this phone will work in a specific country that I might travel to while still using the Verizon's plan.
If you are looking to try and get this phone moved to another service provider in that country on the other hand, I cant guarantee that it would work or is even possible. This was not a question that I brought up to Verizon.
Also I did not ask about the 4G/3G Data plan overseas.
Bionic in Japan and China
I went to China in 2005, my CDMA phone worked fine, however it was an old phone. No smart phones in 2005. I went to Japan last year with my Droid x. Everything worked well, Navigation text, phone calls. However the entire time you are in 1x mode. No 3G service in Japan, for Verizon customers. However ATT customers often had no service. I only had no service in once place. Not in a big city.
Since Japan is moving towards LTE there is no support for 3G on the CDMA network.
I do not think an LTE World phone is ready yet, for the difference band Frequency LTE operates on in different regions of the world. I would be happy if my phone worked in Japan, and it will but you will not get fast speeds and Data is very expensive on the network. When I went it was unlimited data for $64. Now Verizon has international plans. That will give you up to 250 Mb for $100. THe good thing is at 1x, how much data can you use.
not sure why this thread is spanning more than two posts.
it's cdma. no gsm chip.
there are about a dozen countries that support cdma. google it.
well the thing is the 4g chip for LTE uses a GSM network, thus the sim card... but the GSM chip works for 700 mhz OMLY, which is a LTE network frequency ONLY, so if you roam out of country, to do texts and calls, it would have to use CDMA. Not only that, but atm verizon is the only LTE carrier to use 700mhz. (correct me if I am wrong about that) so unless verizon has LTE tours out of country (vodafone?) you only will get 4G here, and if you do get 4G out of country, not only would it cost you a arm and a leg, but if there is no CDMA in the area, you would have data only. no calls, texts, or such.

[Q] Can GT P1000CWAXSG work on ATT voice and 3g?

I've spent hours trying to confirm whether it's possible or not but I'm still not sure. According to the specs I found, it has the 900/1900/2100 tri band UTMS for data. If I understand correctly, At&t requires 850 or 1900 for 3g. So it should work right?
BUT, looking on ebay all the P1000CWAXSG tabs say t-mobile for their carrier. Now, I think I read somewhere that t-mobile USA and t-mobile europe use different frequencies? Or am I just making that up?
I did see a thread where someone was trying to do just what I am wondering about and it seemed like it might be possible, but alas, the thread just drops off sometime in july w/o any conclusion. I think member rangercaptain was helping out with that. If you're out there, what do you say sir? Any conclusive answers? There's a few P1000's out there on ebay that are priced right and I'm seriously considering getting one, unless that is if it won't work out. Please advise.
Gracious!
Nope, you will not get 3g, just edge. You need 850 for 3g to work according to what your findings are the tab doesn't. But you should double check those specs, cause that's not what t-mobile claims.
Regardless T-mobile devices do not work on AT&T's 3G network. You will only have EDGE, if there is something that has changed recently that I am unaware of, maybe someone here can enlighten us further.
Besides at&t tabs sell for a good price as well.
hope I helped, if I did, hit my thank you button.

[Q] Note 3 AT&T(unlocked) vs international

So I am planning on pre-ordering the N9005. My problem is that I travel frequently between the states and Europe. So I either get LTE here or in Europe.
I have always gotten the international versions for my other devices (S2,Note2,S3,note 10.1 3g). But since I spend most of the year in the states I wanted to get the AT&T LTE version.
However, I don't really want the AT&T firmwares, so I was wondering if I could flash an international firmware on the AT&T unlocked note 3? One of the reasons for this is I know that for instance you could not do tethering without rooting your phone (I am planning on rooting mine) on your AT&T handheld.
I know it's not a big deal, but I want my phone to have the international firmware of my choice, not AT&T's. Thank you
AT&T / T-Mobile compatibility
I would like to know the answer to this as well. Here are the two versions I am eyeing:
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 32GB LTE (AT&T) (Unlocked)
SKU SMGALNTEAUB
3G/4G bands 1900, 2100, 850
LTE Bands 1700, 1900, 2100, 700, 850
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 32GB LTE (N9005 - International) (Unlocked)
SKU SMGN9005UB
3G/4G bands 1900, 2100, 850, 900
LTE Bands 1800, 2100, 2600, 800, 850, 900
Was hoping one of the versions would work on both AT&T and T-Mobile....
Well, the international version won't work on either, you need the 1700/2100 (I.e. 1700) band for the international version to work on either networks, and that's missing from the international version. So I want to know the downsides of getting the att version.

Not trying to start an argument or anything but just wondering, are you positive about that? The international version has the 2100 band as well as the 850 band and I have read in multiple places, as well as hearing during the Samsung unveiling that it would work on AT&T LTE...
Maybe I'm just confused?

Since I am new here, I can't post any links still, but if you go to newegg dot com or to negrielectronics dot com you can see the specs for the international version, they are missing the 1700 band.

Like the other user said you need the 1700 band to get AT&T LTE frequency. The 850 band is for H+ at&t so yes the international version will only work on at&t H+.
What Samsung probably meant by " it will work on all networks" is that they will support all LTE networks if you buy the correct model for your network.

You should only get the AT&T variant if you prove that LTE is faster than HSPA+ in your area. Either use your current phone or use one at an AT&T store and turn off LTE. Run a speed test, turn LTE back on and run the test again, and compare.
It's possible to some international ROMs on carrier branded devices, but not all are compatible. At the VERY least, you'll have to manually configure the AT&T APN, you may also have to manually re-flash radios in order to connect to AT&T towers.
Some crafty devs have made an Aroma installer to do all this stuff while it loads their ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2324565
Just know that you're in for a bit more tinkering if you plan on going this route. But there's no reason to go through all the trouble if there isn't LTE in your area or it currently runs poorly.

Im pretty sure by Unlocked they mean Sim Unlocked( u can use on other networks). There is no AT&T units that we know of to confirm whether its bootloader locked or not, but we are only assuming based on recent at&t attempts to lock down their devices.

Actually, according to AT&T's website and to their phones' specs, you don't need the 700 band, just the 1700/2100 (I.e. 1700) band.
I believe only Sprint uses the 700 band for lte
Edit: I looked at the AT&T website again, I believe they plan on using the 700 band in the future, but they are not utilizing it now. I might be wrong, so don't take my word for it.

May I ask why t-mobile's unlocked note 3 is not in your list? It appears it will work equally well on AT&T, and there's a much greater chnace of it having an unlocked bootloader. There aren't as many 4G frequencies, so maybe LTE when you're abroad won't always work, but if you want to flash ROMs then an unlocked bootloader is important!
I am in a similar situation to you, and I was planning to go with T-Mobile unlocked. Part of me wants to forget LTE and go with the Exynos, but I fear dev support will be limited.
Thanks for the thread and discussion OP and everyone, because I do not want to regret my choice!
On an unrelated note (no pun intended) - does anyone have experience with Negri electronics? It looks like AT&T will probably start shipping their Notes by October 1st, if not sooner. Do you think Negri will be in the same timeline?

I agree. FWIW, I remember reading a few month ago that AT&T released a semi-official statement (it may have been a tweet, or a response to an online article) that all of their android phones will ship with locked bootloaders from now on. Maybe if Samsung really pushed at&t to keep them unlocked, or at least offer a path to unlock (a la HTC's dev program), then it could happen... but I bet Samsung is happy the bootloader is locked; even though they ship the international model unlocked, I imagine they would prefer if it too was locked, but they don't have a convenient excuse outside of the US, where they can just blame AT&T. I LOVE samsung hardware, but looking at exynos documentation and other policies, they don't seem to welcome tinkering.

Darn... but maybe when LTE becomes more prevalent in europe, they'll use some of the same bands as the t-mo version?
I had an HTC One X on AT&T, and eventually a clever dev found a way to get root access and partially unlock the bootloader, but it was such a hassle. For developers, I'm doubt it seemed very hard, but for me, getting it unlocked, and then updating ROMs, flashing radios, boot images, older firmware, newer firmware, trying to find out what was causing a bootloop... It wasn't even worth the headache, I should have just kept it stock (and stock AT&T is pretty terrible when you've been using cyanogenmod for three years). I bought a Nexus 4 soon after, I never want to deal with all that nonsense again!
If only I could wait a couple of months to see what the developer/bootloader situation looks like, I'd probably get the AT&T version if a relatively safe and easy bootloader unlock exploit is found, but I'm too eager to wait, so unless someone miraculously finds an exploit by October 1st, I'm probably going international or t-mobile. It seems like international is the safest bet: 3G coverage everywhere and good support (unless exynos drives everyone away), but I live in DC and the LTE speeds are incredibly good. It's a tough choice!

[Q] Moto x phone in France

Hello, It is possible to buy moto x phone on official site and receive in France. The phone support french phone networks like Orange or SFR ? Sorry for my english.
Thanks.
i would guess the only way you will be able to buy it is say through ebay from a seller willing to ship to you (i sent a puerto rico XT1058 unlocked to a guy in the UK...)
they are GSM phones so it shoudl support at least HSPA+. none of the moto phones support the french LTE bands i dont think though.
I agree: you will have to buy it on ebay(like me) or use one of the services that gives you temporary adress in USA so you can order it(this will cost you more, but you can create your own Moto on moto maker, so it can be worth it if you want some unusual color).
As far as I know, majority of Europe networks are GSM, so you don't want one from Verizon or US Cellular(these are CDMA, although I have once seen GSM Verizon version, but they are quite rare on ebay)
Also don't be afraid of locked phones, 99.9% of them can by unlocked for something around 15$ and amount of carrier bloatware is minimal. (Mine Moto is from AT&T and I was able to disable everything except one contact synchronization service)

the verizon XT1060 edition , is GSM compatible, just no LTE (really no difference from your point of view in france). verizon's new moto phones have been GSM unlocked for a while from the factory (even the last generation).
i wouldnt recommend it unless it was very very cheap though as verizon updates are slow, and the bootloader is locked. you'd be better off with one of the puerto rico / chile ones since at least you could unlock and flash the dev images.
Hello all,
I live in the US now but gonna back to France eventually. I plan on buying a Moto X with moto maker using the 150$ coupon and using it in France at some point. My questions are :
- Is there any difference beetween the T-Mobile and ATandT version ? (I know that I don't want a CDMA version)
- Is there a difference beetween the GSM Developper Edition and the one from T-Mob. and ATandT ?
- When it's come to Android update, wich version will you think update the fastest ?
Thanks,
Julien
Different types of Moto x
If you want to use the Moto x in Europe (France) you should know these:
1 Basicly you have two different types of Moto x as far as concerns radio frequencies: GSM type and CDMA type. You can't use CDMA type in Europe therefore you must select between GSM types. CDMA types are phones branded for Verizon, Sprint and any others intended for their networks (US Cellular...).
2 Special case is Republic Wireless which seems to use the dedicated voip application (sip), working primarily on its wireless network and in extension on the Sprint CDMA.
3 On the GSM side you have in the USA phones for the following operators: AT&T, T-mobile and developers edition. In Canada you can get Rogers network which is host for the Fido operator as well.
4. In central and South America you can find Nextel in Mexico, Claro in Chile, Columbia, Peru, Brazil and Puerto Rico and Movistar in Argentina. I might have ommited some of them but they all operates on GSM network.
5. Moto x is sold on the contract in Germany as well for pretty high price and i believe that it is a T-mobile model.
So what is important for the Eropean to make a right choise? You must know that all this phones are more or less branded and some of them locked to the original network. You might experience a serious problem trying to unlock one.
The second fact worth to be considered is the LTE network. It is true that it is not so widely spreaded in Europe as in the USA but it can comes a point in the year or two. And you don't want to buy a fairly expensive phone for six months, do you?
Taking these into the consideration I've been learned so far:
Model XT1058 covered highest number of LTE bands among all. Model XT1058 covers LTE 700 / 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100/2600. It is sold by AT&T and some Central/South American operators. While is likely that AT&T's model lacks 2600 band as Jelly Bean and regarding some testimonies gains it with the KITKAT, the others seem to have even more LTE bands deactivated and are practically unuseful in Europe.
Unfortunatelly AT&T's model has others significiant disadvantages: the bootloader is not unlockable what simply means that you might never have opportunity to install the custum ROM. And what is worst: in the last time you hardly get unlock code and that might force you to be hooked on the AT&T network for a long time or forever.
T-mobile and developers models both work on LTE 700 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 frequencies, what means that they match only one european band - 2100. LTE frequencies which are mostly in use in Europe are: 1800, 2100 and 2600. Otherwise this two models come with unlockable bootloader and they are not locked to any network.
Rogers and Fido have both unlockable bootloader, they are not locked to any network, not branded and they work on LTE 2100 and 2600.
It's hard to collect these information and make an optimal decision. Feel free to correct or amend me if you find that I failed in any part of my explanation. But now I know for sure: if I had this knowledge before, I'd undoubtly opted for the Rogers model.
Thanks for this amazing explanation ! It should be pinned somewhere.
Here is what I understand from your answer and all I read :
- I might be able to have the 4G LTE in France with the ATandT version (2600) but it could be tricky to unlock. I'm not sure I understand the KITKAT parts (My english is not so good)
- T mobile are not locked and it's easy to unlock the bootloader. About LTE you say it has 2100. But I don't think we have this frequency available in France. From the wikipedia article it's more 800, 1800 and 2600. So I might not have LTE. Do you know about HSPA+ ?
- The rogers version could be the best option. What about the price ? Can I pick this provider trought the motomaker with Cybermonday deal ?
Now About the 4G LTE in France 2 things :
- The cover is really poor right now unless you live inside a big city
- The plan are way more expensive than regular 3G (HSPA+) except for ''Free Mobile'' who just add the LTE for free at no extra cost (But has a really really bad cover)
That's why I could go with a HSPA version only.
Thanks you again for you answers ! I'm glad I registered on the XDA forum today

Hi,
the detailed description of Moto x LTE frequencies could be found on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moto_X. The only question is how accurate it is. Regarding my experience you should be careful with Central/South American bands and ask the seller about details before buying one. I asked a lot and once got the information that Claro's from Puerto Rico only supports LTE 700/850/1700. And it is confirmed that AT&T's Moto x with initial operating system (4.2.2) doesn't work on 2600Mhz. Regarding Wiki and some claims, when you upgrade it to 4.4 (KitKat), you get 2600 on LTE. That's what I ment in previous comment about LTE and AT&T. But this is just unproved information though there isn't any 2600MHz LTE network in the USA and nobody has tested it yet. In the USA they prefer lower LTE bands (700, 850 MHz) because they can obtain better signal range and penetration through buildings. But you can gain broader bandwith on higher frequencies, that's why Americans later built more networks on 1700, 1900 and 2500 MHz.
To make the situation clear: AT&T has on the LTE the most suatible frequencies to European networks. According to the Wiki is the same with other XT1058 models, Central/South American Vivo, Claro, Movistar. But for the latest Wiki might be wrong, it worth checking before buying.
As I mentioned before, AT&T's models has other more serious disadvantages. But I wouldn't neglect the LTE capacity of the phone, the features of modern phones which firstly look uninteresting becomes very actual this year. I mean NFC (apps management, direct payment) and LTE. Although LTE is not even nearly as widely spreaded in Europe as in the USA, the situation might change in the near future. European Commission which is very innovative on the field of mobile communications, issued last year the Decision 243/2012/EU establishing a multiannual radio spectrum policy to year 2020. In this policy it not only encourages member states to develop the 4G networks but make them also commited to. The frequencies available for the LTE should be:
- 790 do 862 MHz,
- 880 do 915 MHz,
- 925 do 960 MHz,
- 1.710 do 1.785 MHz,
- 1.805 do 1.880 MHz,
- 1.900 do 1.980 MHz,
- 2.010 do 2.025 MHz,
- 2.110 do 2.170 MHz,
- 2,5 do 2,69 GHz in
- 3,4 do 3,8 GHz.
In fact most of the European countries opt primarly for 2600MHz, 1800MHz, 800MHz and 2100MHz. In concreto in France a rollout of LTE networks began, mostly on 2600MHz and less on 800MHZ. The situation regarding LTE coverage might be completely different at the end of 2014.
There is no problem with GSM and 3G frequencies, all GSM models opreate on: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 and 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 HSDPA (T-mobile and Developers edition additionally on HSDPA 1700).
To summarize, what should be advised to the European buyer of Moto x:
1. Buy a new phone (although the service is only in the USA you still get full warranty registering your phone on the Motorola website).
2. Choose the right model taking into consideration: SIM unlocked/locked, bootloader locked/unlocked, LTE band. Sometimes is worth pay more to have significant less problems.
3. Pay with PayPal (you have effective claim against the seller if you don't get the phone as described).
4. Run it at least 1 or better 2 weeks before root or change ROM. That is minimal sufficient time to find out possible malfunctions.
A few words regarding warranty, SIM unlocking, rooting, bootloader unlocking:
In Europe SIM unlocking, rooting and bootloader unlocking is legal and for natural person, any of these acts could not void the warranty regarding Directive 1999/44/CE if the warranty claim doesn't derive from such act and the operating system is recovered to the original. In the USA rooting the device is legal and couldn't void the warranty as long as the device is reverted to original. The situation with SIM unlocking and bootloader unlocking is somehow funny. As from January 26th 2013 according to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act unlocking SIM without operators permittion is ilegal. But this rule only applies to cell phones, not to for example to tablets and other devices which use SIM cards and at least data transmittion if not telephony functionality. As regard unlock bootloader the previous stand of Motorola was even more absurd: They sell developers edition of Moto x and they encouraged usesrs to unlock the bootloader but they warned them if they had done so, they warranty would be void. Latter they changed that collision by issuing an original system image for recover and announcing that they would recognize the warranty despite the unlocked bootloader.
In other parts of the word including Canada SIM unlock doesn't have inpact on the warranty.
Just adding one thing!
If you want to set your use the touchless control in French, it is not possible with Latin American phones, they don't have this option and you can't set your phone in French (only English, Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish available), so even if you set your voice search language to French in Google Now or in settings, the recognition is working well but it will never reply to you or do any action. Which ruins all the interest.
Now I think the AT&T phone got French in the settings but I am not sure, can someone confirm this? Not the Voice Search language (all Google languages are available there) but the phone language settings, is there French?
Thanks,
Tih

I read on another thread that the T-mobile version comes with french (I don't know for AT&T). For this reason and for the fact that this version is less locked, I bought it on the moto maker. Thanks piskr and all other XDA members for helping me in this choice !
I will let you know what I think of the phone once I received it.

I'm curious, how did you manage to buy it on motomaker from outside the USA? Do you have a US credit card? How are you shipping it to France? I'd like to do the same thing (but shipping to Canada) but not sure how to proceed...

I have the AT&T model, it supports touchless control in French. Though I don't recoomend it. I guess that all American and Canadian models support French. Better go for Rogers, Fido or T-mobile.

I can confirm that none of my credit cards worked on motos website (master cards issued in Sweden). They reserve money at your bank but you get it back a few days later.
I have a friend who studies in the states and he has an american credit card. He will buy it for me and take it to Sweden. I will design the phone at moto maker and save the design. He will then log on to my google account and choose carrier and do all of the "checkout".
So much work for a bloody phone.
