I dont know how long this has been happining because up to 2 days ago I dident use any bluetooth devices with my phone but I just found out yesterday I was having a problem and after hours of searching and narrowing the problem down I finnaly found that enabling wifi caused my bluetooth range to drop to just a cople inches.
The reason I need wifi is that I dont get anything past "E" were I live and thats not vary good for orb and streaming Movies and TV
The reason I started using Bluetooth is I bought a hands free headset and a BT Gamepad, both of there ranges are 1-2 inches but jump to the correct range when wifi is off.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the bluetooth and wifi probably operate off the same sytem in the kaiser?
If I had to guess, it would have something to with your battery. If you have a weak phone signal, your battery has to work harder to keep the call up. Just my guess
Thats another thing to try, try keeping the phone plugged in while you do this and see if the results vary from not having it plugged in.
I actually saw it to vary from ROM to ROM. On XDA Live 2.0, i could never use both simeltaneously. If i turned wifi on, my headset would disconnect. After I made my ROM, i had no problems whatsoever with both coexisting.
It's normal. Both interfaces use the same frequency band and must share it. When one uses a lot of the available bandwidth, the other is likely to be thrown off. Now if people report different behavior between ROMs it might be stuff like the prioritization between the 2 being different, or simply low-level settings like the number of retries in case of failed transmissions (as many of those will occur when both interfaces are used simultaneously) before a packet is dropped/connection is lost.
An example of the other way, if I use my stereo handset to listen to music (bandwidth-intensive), the Wifi will disconnect even if I'm 2m away from the router.

hrm this isnt good - it would appear bluetooth stops working when wifi is enabled - was listening to an mp3 on bt stereo headphones and enabled wifi and it killed the conn - not only that it seems i cant use any form of bt device if wifi is enabled (not even connected) on the device - wtf?

No, I use Jawbone BT headset with all sounds out BT using BTaudio.exe then start WiFi on home LAN and watch streaming video from Slingbox.

to me it seems as thought ewifi signal is overpowering the bluetooth or smt - does the bluetooth freq lie in the wifi freq range or smt? is there any way they could overlap?

I'm doing it as a type this. I'm watching 30fps video streaming at 300k over WiFi and listening to it thru a Jawbone BT headset. For sure this works fine.
I have a Hermes and it would not do this well at all, it would allow BT and 3G video streaming but not WiFi. Kaiser can handle it.
maybe you could try a differet BT headset, maybe yours suffers from inteference ( i don't know the frequencies of BT and WiFi but WiFI could be killing the connection because your headset jamms)
BT and WiFi are both spread specktrum radios operating at 2.4ghz. They are designed to co-exist and do so on Kaiser. Maybe there is a difference with Stereo vs Mono headsets, they do use different BT profiles. If I get a chance I'll try a stereo set and report back.

I found a problem with my kaiser phone last night. The problem is that if I listening to music with my bluetooth headset I am not able to connect to my WiFi at the same time. This problem is specific to A2DP because my headset can be connected to my phone and I can not browse the web with WiFi. Has anyone seen this problem before? Has there ever been a resolution for it?

I've seen this too -- when using A2DP, the WiFi connection goes down & won't re-establish itself until I turn off A2DP. I haven't found a resolution yet -- not that I'm looking for one as I almost never use A2DP, and when I do, I'm in the car, where WiFi isn't too useful.

I have a similar issue. If I am streaming music, from my HP media server, over wifi and using my Plantronics 590A bluetooh headphones, after each song I am asked to log back onto the network and as each song comes to an end my device starts to search for a network connection. I don't have this issue when I use wired headphones. Clearly there is an issue when both bluetooth and wifi are used at the same time. I don't know if it's hardware or software but I'm not happy about it.

It's normal. Without going too technical, WiFi and Bluetooth operate on the same frequencies. They will live together if they're not using too much bandwidth, but if the usage is heavy there will be problems.
A BT stereo headset represents a lot of data to send and thus bandwidth usage, which means the BT will use the spectrum heavily, stepping over the Wifi. Due to the many packet losses the Wifi connection cuts.
Other way around, if Wifi is under heavy load, Bluetooth might drop.
Nothing we can do, that's what happens when you pack 2 radios operating in the same frequency band so close to each other, or even maybe sharing the same antenna which might be the case in today's phones.
It is absolutely NOT normal. The reason I know this is that VoIP over WiFi has been running almost perfectly on my TyTN II for a year, until I installed the latest ROM by HTC which broke it.
I used to get no crackle on Bluetooth calls with WiFi turned on. Now I do.
I used to get great quality VoIP. Now it is beyond unusable.
Simply, their new ROM broke it. BT and WiFi used to live in harmony, until their buggy ROM came out the other day. I think there are many users who know this, and who expect a hotfix soon.
You're talking about calls, I assume using the BT headset profile, while the other people in the thread are using A2DP wireless stereo. They're very different in terms of bandwidth.
On mine the headset with WiFi is also fine, but not A2DP. You're apparently not having the same issue than what is mentione in this thread. Yours might be due to the ROM, but the A2DP thing is more likely to be related to what I explained. I could myself experience it with several ROMS (all WM6, never tried a 6.1).

My old TyTn II worked fine with BT and WiFi on at same time - never a problem. I always had WiFi on at home for emails etc... and always have my BT headset (Plantronics 8XX mono) working as I hate holding phone to my ear and get a lot of calls.
I recently bought another TyTn II and then unlocked it using advice form this forum (many thanks to all BTW!) and installed latest HTC rom and WM6.1 etc... Now I love many aspect of the new ROM but I can't use BT and WiFi at same time.
So from my experience it MUST be the new HTC ROM software issue.
Okay, chalk me up as another victim of this Wireless + A2DP = Crap Reception. I've tried three other Radios and the effect is the same.
I was using a rom I got in about April, and I could stream music from the internet over wireless listening to it on my Pantronics 590A's over bluetooth no issues (other than battery lol). Now with a rom I got this month, I can listen to music over bluetooth no problem, surf using wireless no issue but as soon as you mix them both it's all bad. Also, I need to re-pair my headphones whenever I want A2DP, where previously I could just turn on the headphones and have them connect. Also, no headset icon in the taskbar.
It's not a CPU issue as there's no excess usage when you both have them enabled. Personally I'm going to point the finger at the bluetooth stack here.
As far as I remembered when I first purchased the ATT Tilt with my Plantronic Voyager 855 I WAS able to stream via Wifi (Winamp Remote) and use my bluetooth without a problem. It's when I started to put cooked roms in the Tilt that it stopped working correctly...
Besides, I use a Macbook Pro via Wifi only and I listen to my Itune via my Plantronic Voyager 855 everyday. If it's true about WiFi overloading Bluetooth on the frequency. Why does it work fine on the MBP?
And Finally.... to make my point...
I also have an AT&T Fuze. Works fine there. Matter affact. I'm currently connected via bluetooth to my Fuze with my Voyager 855... turned off 3G/HSPDA on the Fuze. WiFi on the Fuze using Winamp Remote to connect to my PC streaming from there. Explain that....

i have this problem for a long time and didn't find anything about it in web or in xda forums.
I have a HTC Dream + HBH-IS 800 Sony Ericsson Headset.
When i listen to music via A2DP the connection is not very stable...
the connection interrupts very often for about 2 or 3 seconds, then works for about 3 seconds.
This only happens when i am outside, not in buildings. I this the reason is because of interferences. The connection gets better when i move the G1 into a specific orientation (upper side up) and don't turn my head to the right
On my old Windows mobile phone i played around with bitpool (=ratio between quality and connection stability by constant bitrate) settings... is there a possibility to get the connection more stable, when playing around with this setting?!
How can this setting be changed on android?

-ROM Cyanogen 4.2.5 but same problem on stock ROM
-HTC Dream has been replaced one by a new device -> same problem
-Headset was never exchanged, but worked perfectly on my old Touch Pro with WM 6.1

There is a known issue on the Bluetooth stack and is suppose to be fixed in the Elclair 2.0 fix, the temporary work around is to first pair and connect then disconnect and reconnect it again i'm having to do that several times a day when i use my RocketFish bluetooth stereo headset. Hope that helps

my G1 is set to connect to my stereo in my car. Pioneer BT head unit. I find that i have to manually tell it to connect every time i get in the car. When i had a blackberry before it would just connect every time on its own without me doing anything once i made the initial connection.
Any ideas?

Worked on Dell Streak A1.6
I have Dell BH200 headset as well, and I have the same exact problem its like the audio stutters but when I first connect it its more stutter than music so you can barely even understand the music until after 30secs when it starts to normal out.
ATM im runnning Stock 1.6 for G1, im going to try Cyanogenmod 6.0 tomorrow and see if anything changes.
but everyday I go back and forth with my laptop and phone since my headphones run for atleast 3-4 days.

I recently bought a orange SanFran and, as the device is fairly cheap, a nokia bh-504 along with it.
The connection isnt stable even when I put it in my breast pocket.
As soon as I move my head to the right, the streaming stops. Completely.
I can easily stop the music when holding my hand in front of the right earpiece.
so i will try the disconnect / connect again "workaround", but I don't think that will help.
I paired the same headset with my gf's netbook and I could walk through the whole apartment and the signal was stable even through up to 4 walls.

Got my One today... Pleased so far until I went for a drive and tried out the bluetooth in the car and found a couple of issues:
1 - Audio keeps cutting out every 15 seconds or so. It'll play, then quickly go quiet, and then work its way back up to regular volume. Really annoying!
2 - The meta data is completely wrong. For example, I was playing a podcast via Doggcatcher, yet the meta data was for a track I'd been playing previously in Google Music.
Tried with Beats Audio on, and off, but didn't make any difference. I have several other phones of different makes/models etc... paired with the car and none of them have these issues.
Anyone else having these issues?

The meta data issue is a common problem around Android phones I found out so far. I use N7player and on my car radio display it says Load 8.1 from Eisenfunk, but I'm playing I will be heard from Hatebreed. This happens on different phones with stock player installed.
The Load 8.1 from Eisenfunk is loaded in the stock music player, so the problem seems to be, that you have to find a workaround to get player X your standard player and disable everything else. Since I only use N7, I disabled every other player and it seems to work, but its a lazy workaround. Someone should find a fix for this. Maybe I should just use the stock filemanager and try to start a mp3 and than set N7 to default. Maybe this works.
For the BT cutting outs, I didn't recognize those cutouts. Don't ask me what is wrong at your side, I use a Pioneer DEH-X8500BT car radio and my HTC One is in my pocket. Do you have a bluetooth bridge like Belkin or Logitech BT Audio adapter or wireless speakers like Boombox or such thing so check if this happens with them, too? I had a issue once with a Samsung device and my Creative wireless speakersystem with BT connection and it was cutting off randomly until I found out that another app was causing this.

I had the same problem too and solved this by disabling the energy-saving-options. With energysaving all dataconnections will be disabled when the screen gets off.
You can also setup the energysavingsettings and disable the turn off from all dataconnections.

I used to have this problem in 1.28Rom with WifI turn on too, but it fixed in Rom 1.29. :laugh:

Thanks for the pointers guys. I installed AutomateIt so that when it connects to my car's bluetooth, it disables WiFi (and then switches it back on when I get out). Seems to work a treat!
HTC asked me to fill in a support call, but by the sounds of it it's hopefully all sorted in the 1.29 ROM Let's hope for a speedy release of it around the world :good:
Not sure what to do about the meta data though. I use quite a few different music apps (Soundcloud, Google Music, Sony Music, and Doggcatcher) so setting one to be default isn't really a solution for me unfortunately.
I'm getting both issues but I saw this thread before I got my phone and knew to turn off the wifi. A minor inconvenience but glad it'll be fixed in the next update.
As for the meta data, I'm using Gone Mad music player (the dev recently put it on sale and I fancied a change from the now-abandoned ubermusic). I can confirm that the track never changed from the first one I played. Haven't yet tried the stock music player, but I do recall that I had a similar issue on my SGS3 when using a combination of stock, ubermusic and google music. Very annoying. I think the same happened in the brief moment I had the Xperia Z too, so I would agree that it's an Android issue, not necessarily a HTC issue.

not specifically related to use with car sets, but I have general BT headset issues. I already tested two of them. I get dropouts every now and then, i.e. I don't hear the one on the other end, plus people absolutely do not hear me most of the time when I use the BT headset - I have to speak into the phone, and even then no sound at times. No problems with my former HOX though. Can anyone confirm? Am I deemed to NOT use WLAN while having a BT headset connected in general?

I've been having audio issues via A2DP - but again only with WiFi enabled. Not a problem in the car as Tasker will turn off WiFi for me. But in my house when using A2DP streaming, I want to use my WiFi.
Let's hope 1.29 fixes, otherwise I might consider a 5Ghz router...
An FYI. When these phones passed through the FCC I was such a geek that I actually read the transmitter testing. There is an affidavit in there about the BT and WiFI radios sharing an antenna and due to FCC restrictions that the two shall never transmit at the same time. All I can devise is they use a very fast radio switcher to ensure both can be on at once. That software that powers the transmitter transfer mechanism must be not optimized. Or worse, the hardware just really cant handle that. This is what happens when you have aluminum. Need to cram as much into antenna spots as possible. The I-phone 5 has the same setup but their software seems to handle it better. Hopefully this is fixed with a ROM release.
F*ck me, that would explain why I was able to make normal phone calls when I am outside my office - there is no WiFi to interfere! I will have to test tomorrow again, but feel a bit irritated about the fact that I cannot use Bluetooth for audio and WiFi at the same time. Thanks for pointing that out again!

If that was true you'd never be able to stream content over Wi-Fi (Hulu, Netflix, Pandora, Spotify) and listen to it over BT. That's done all the time. Wi-Fi and BT both use the 2.4GHz frequency. Maybe the requirement you read applies to via separate antennas which may be why both share a single antenna. Aluminum and wireless signals don't mix. Asus had BT problems with the TF201 because they had to compensate for the aluminum back of the device by amping the Wi-Fi signal to the point it overpowered the weaker BT signal. Since turning off Wi-Fi improves BT performance (and range) something similar may be occurring on the One. With so few devices in people's hands it's too early to call.
Here's the LTE SGS3 for T-Mobile that just passed through the FCC compared to the One.

That means this very well could be the culprit. Don't need to believe me. Check out the first letter from htc in the FCC registration. Clear as day.

Well, it's either the radio, h/w, s/w, or interference. The radio can be ruled out because the BCM4335 is specifically designed to reduce radio interference between competing signals. That leaves either something in the way the h/w is assembled, tuning of the radio drivers/settings or interference between the various radios caused by their output settings, antenna size/placement, or the aluminum body attenuating the signals. I guess time will tell which it is and whether or not it's a big deal to the majority of users.

Anand described the antenna structure but I don’t really understand whether he’s saying the entire horizontal aluminum strips on the back above and below the line of injected plastic are the antennas or that the design allows the discrete antennas to be more effective.
The One uses the top and bottom aluminum strips for antennas, both of which are actively tuned to mitigate unintended attenuation from being held. There’s a plastic insulative strip in-between the two antennas and the main body. In spite of being aluminum, the One also includes NFC, whose active area surrounds the camera region.
But his comments don’t seem to jive with iFixit’s after their tear down. They seem to be implying the signals are transmitted through the plastic surround which makes sense but limits the transmission area.
The daughterboard remains, but there is still a mystery left unsolved. No phone operates without antennas, and antennas don't transmit signals well through metal walls. Considering that this daughterboard is on the receiving end of the motherboard's antenna cables and sits directly under the plastic bezel at the top of the phone, we're thinking it has something to do with wireless signals. See those three spring contacts along the top of the board? They meet the rear case in an area obscured by the plastic bezel. If we had to guess, that's where HTC put the antennas.
I would like to post the declaration from the FCC site. Its says it and the model of the bt/wifi radio in the device as registered although the part number looks like the phones part number with a few extra numbers. I truly hope this isn't one of those situations where some BT is unaffected because of the other end having better or newer processors. A la modern BMW's. The professional radio BT sucks it. Always drops even the best phone BT. So, if this phone has a nice antenna split tech and can be very fast at switching transmission times, but the other side cant keep up with the chop, we have a long term problem. I cant post the link because I am too new. Sorry.

I tried today with WiFi off and must admit that this is the (temporary) solution. I am on stock with 1.28.401.7 and DO have issues with WiFi and BT being used simultaneously. Now I can at least use BT with my headset.
Friends ...... , HTC One it seems has a terrible Bluetooth range ....... I have a Logitech BoomBox (Bluetooth spks) and a Belkin Bluetooth receiver connected to my AVR. In both the cases, when connected to my HTC One it looses audio in just couple of feets. Specially with belkin receiver. But when I tested the same with my iPhone 4, it works perfectly, till the Bluetooth's designated range of 30 feet (10 meters) ... with both Belkin and Logitech ....
so it has something to do with HTC One's Bluetooth.
People with HTC One and having any Bluetooth audio device, please test this and report if you are also facing the same issue, Or is there something that I can try to increase the range. Its pathetic, 2-3 feets at the max. I am bitterly disappointed with this ..........

I think that Android 4.1 had a BT flaw that was fixed in 4.2.
so this means its more of an android issue than HTC One........ any alternatives to improve this, till we have an 4.2 update
I was using bt audio yesterday and it was horrible. I did some googling, try turning off wifi before you connect to the speakers, it solved my trouble straight away. I found if the music was playing when I turned wifi back on it would still be ok. Might help?

I was using bt audio yesterday and it was horrible. I did some googling, try turning off wifi before you connect to the speakers, it solved my trouble straight away. I found if the music was playing when I turned wifi back on it would still be ok. Might help?

Jiggle .... my friend, you made the day for me, how so ever strange may it seem, it did work .... ..... I switched of my wifi and then connected Bluetooth to Belkin receiver and vola!! :victory:... no drop outs and was able to use BT at full 30 feets, and then if I switch on the wifi later all is well.
Strange, if wifi is working before I connect BT, it drops and is very uneven ......... must be some bug, but anyway, solution is not as irritating as one might expect.
Thanks again Jiggle, for you input, saved me a great disappointment.

whew you had me in a panic here. (o; I'm still a little traumatized from my asus T201 wireless issues.
The Wifi/bluetooth issue is a drawback of the aluminum body design of the One. Bluetooth shares an antenna with wifi transmit. I believe wifi receive shouldn't interrupt bt though.
Then there should also be a problem if I switch on wifi after I connect BT. ,... in which case it works. It only creates a problem, if the wifi is first on and then I connect BT. ...... which is strange
Just for information. I had 3 htc, desire hd, sensation, onex and ALL had problem with bluetooth, weak signal, using a headset with the phone in my pocket already failed. I now have a note2 and this problem does not occur, being used in the same situation. So ....

My m7 (TrickDroid, elementalX 0.11 default overclocking and undervolting) is having the BT issue whenever wifi is on, regardless of whether I connect the BT device while wifi is off, and regardless of whether audio is playing when the wifi is turned back on. In other words, on my device, BT really really sucks if wifi is connected, period. Any suggestions other than not to use wifi if I want to use BT?
Update: My router (Netgear wnr2000v3) seems to use 2.4 Ghz channels. Any thoughts about whether swapping the router with a dual-band or 5 Ghz channel router would work around this issue?

I did pick up a new dual-band router and set up the phone to connect only on the 5Ghz band, and it worked! No more bluetooth issues at home. So if you run into this issue, a temporary workaround until (hopefully) HTC/Google provide a fix is to avoid the 2.4Ghz band.
Strangely enough, my Bluetooth range keeps decreasing with each software update. When I first bought this thing, I was generally impressed with how far I could walk from my BT speakers. Not as good as my evo 4g or 3d, but decent. Better than my gs3 and gn2.
Now I tend to make it about 5 feet or so with minor cut-outs while using apt-x. If I put my hand between the signal at 10ft, I can stop it completely. If I touch the upper-right of my phone with my thumb as I hold it in my right hand, I can kill the signal as well. Very much an antennagate going on here just like the iPhone 4.
