Hi,
I have taken the plunge and got myself a Diamond - or rather a uk TMobile MDA Compact IV -
I have a small problem with it... when I am browsing the web using Opera, the browser always keeps the top and bottom bars visible - all the time. They never vanish, meaning that my web browsing is done on the rather small space in between them. I'm sure they are supposed to vanish whilst browsing and only return when needed.
Does anyone know how to fix this please?

Maybe a simple answer but have you checked that auto full screen is checked in the display settings ?
On another note the stock t-mobile compact 4 is slow and buggy. I changed to SwiftBL WWE Diamond v5.0 and havnt looked back since.

well i got my new Tytn II / Kaiser after selling my Hermes V1605 2 months ago.. I couldn't stick the awful A2DP from my sony ericsson..
Bluetooth stereo works fine.. I got the Motorola z9 blue tooth stereo phones.. all works great... pairs even better than the TYTN..
It's taking me time to get used to the keyboard sliding out the other way.. I've put all the tweaks.. got tomtom working google earth.. got mobile opera... soft key changer.. Running the original Htc Rom..
Only problem I have noticed is that sometimes the touch screen can be a bit unresponsive.. for about 3 seconds.. takes a bit longer to accept input.. and Internet Explorer freezes a little bit.. (is there a fix for it I don't know)..
Another thing i have noticed is I don't get the little H (sdpa) or the 3G as often as I would have with the Tytn. (the tytn was better after upgrading the radio)....
Transferring my tunes across to it is a sinch.. looking at buying a bigger sd got 2gig at the moment.. what's the largest I can go up to... I've seen figures of 6 or 8 up to 32...
I've seen some 8gig sd's on Ebay.. will they work...
Oh yeah... also is there anyone on 3 Three Ireland.. able to use their gmail through pocket outlook... I can recieve but cannot send.. i know 3 had problems with their smtp server before but they came up with a smtp relay but it dosent work with pocket outlook...
Currently, I believe the highest capacity microsd available to the public is 8gb. That's still a LOT of storage. Sandisk makes it I believe.

I had enabled tapping sounds and I noticed that this problem goes away if I disable this again.
3 second freezing
first thing I did was disable all tapping sounds when I got it... plus the keyboard slide sound (annoying) and phone dialler sounds (annoying)..

Except it doesn't seem to be available just yet -- I've had one on order for several weeks now. My guess is that it'll be a couple more weeks

Here is an excerpt from a Nov 2007 post in the HTC Users Forum:
"Users may perceive these instances as the touch screen being unresponsive or the device is freezing when in reality; the device is just processing a command (which is why there is no response).
.
.
.
At this time, the issue will not be resolved by exchanging the device however, this issue is slated to be corrected in the first maintenance release for this device."
Has anyone found a fix for this problem yet?
hey, I experienced the same problem, when I had the original tilt rom and then when I flashed to the original htc rom. however, once I flashed dutys cooked roms, this issue has gone away. im currently using duttys #7 rom, and no problems at all. btw, I've also noticed that having the cube will slow down ur phone, so I use the non cube roms. good luck

Hi,
I'm in the UK and renewing contract as I type. It's a business contract for approx. 11 sim card and 4 new handsets.
We go through a telecom company who provide the contract (this one is with O2) and the handsets.
Now, one of the handsets we've asked for is an HTC Tytn II...
BUT I'm not 100% sure if they plan to send an O2 Xda Stellar or an HTC Tytn II, as they are the same phone they may be planning to send either.
My question is this. Should I insist on an HTC Tytn II or would I be better with the Stellar?
I plan to use it as follows:
WIFI access wherever I can get it
3G/GPRS internet access on the phone
Use the phone as a 3G/GPRS modem for my laptop via bluetooth
Use a Jabra BT Headset
Use it as a tomtom satnav
Sync to Outlook 2003
Does a UK supplied Tytn II come with the tomtom taster software?
If not can the downloaded copy (of the taster software) I have got be used on it easily?
Can I easily put the tomtom software on a stellar (I'm concerned about the problems I've read about the internal GPS setting)
If I get the Tytn II will it be hard to get the 3G/GPRS and laptop modem stuff working with 02 setting etc.?
I'm concerned that the Stellar would be locked to O2 so perhaps less future proof (If I leave O2)
In a nutshell, should I be concerned which version I get given that I will be on O2 and want to use it as described?
I hope you can help as I want to send an email asap if I should be insisting on one version.
Regards
Bryan
I'll be very surprised if you get the HTC Tytn II and not the O2 XDA Stellar. My company is with O2 and we have been sent the Stellars (which do all the things you are asking about, by the way)
The other good thing is that, from my experience, all O2 phones are unlocked anyway (I've tried a SE K850i, a Nokia E90 and the Stellar and all can be used with other sims right out of the box)
The O2 doesn't come with the TomTom taster software though (We bought full copies of it and it works beautifully)
If you're really concerned, ask O2 to they will send you a O2 Stellar on trial so you can confirm everything for yourself. That's what I did
Hope that helps

Thanks for the quick reply.
O2 aren't sending the phone as such, we use an intermediary as we get a better deal from them. They may of course just be getting the phones from O2 anyway and that's why I'm concerned that I may be getting a Stellar when I asked for a Tytn II.
I'm just wondering if I would be better insisiting on a Tytn II or on a Stellar or should I not be bothered?
I understand it's the same device and the hardware is the same so they will both do the same job, just wondered which was best for me given that the O2 will be branded in the software (I assume) and maybe the vanilla Tytn II will be easiest to get working with other stuff. Or will the Stellar work better/easier with their 3G settings etc...
The Tytn II is a charcoal type colour isn't it? and the Stellar silver?
If so, I prefer the aesthetics of the Tytn II but can't just make a decision on colour now, can I
Well, from what I've read on this forum, it seems that the O2 software for whatever reason seems to run a bit better than the standard HTC stuff. If you don't want the O2 branding on there, hard-reset the phone when you get it and do a soft reset when it starts installing the O2 software. Hey presto, clean O/S.
From my usage of the Stellar, I've noticed a few things based on comments by other TyTnII/XDA users on this site.
1. Camera - Quality is reasonably good if you can keep your hand steady while you take the picture. The preview isn't very good but I think that's more the camera sensor constantly trying to re-adjust the brightness/contrast/colours more than anything else.
2. Screen Change (when opening/closing the keyboard) - I've looked at a few videos on YouTube showing some appalling screen change times. The Stellar that I have doesn't seem to suffer from this problem. It swaps between portrait/landscape extremely quickly with only a slight delay when going from landscape back to portrait.
3. Data connectivity - Overall, I haven't had a problems with data connections whether using Wifi or 3G/GPRS. Pocket IE is garbage but the new Opera browser is pretty good. Still not as good as the browser on the iPhone but it's certainly getting there.
4. Tomtom - The full version of TomTom 6 works fine with my Stellar. Set the GPS to Other NMEA GPS Receiver, 4800 Baud Rate on Com 4 and it works fine. To speed up Satellite acquisition times, I always use the QuickGPS software that comes with the Stellar.
5. Audio - I have noticed the occasional playback glitch that others on this forum are reporting although it doesn't seem to happen as frequently. There does however always seem to be a slight stutter when the audio hardware is initialised for the first time, whether playing back a MP3 or using a Ring/Message tone. I suspect this is a driver issue and may get sorted in time. It's certainly not a deal-breaker for me though.
That's all I can think of at the moment. If anything else springs to mind, I'll put another post up.

Nor me, I won't use it much for MP3 playback, I don't think. Stuttering ringtone? I'll learn to live with it I'm sure.

Unless some-one comes up with good reason

I think I'll just wait and see which I get.

Hi Bryan,
To answer in turn
Yes, a hard reset would bring back the branding unless you performed another soft reset after the hard reset (if you see what I mean )
Yes, they are the settings for the internal GPS. Initial satellite pickup after using QuickGPS (and using TomTom for the first time) was about 30 seconds.
Glad the rest was useful!
Hi all,
I've just got my grubby hands on one of our staff members Diamond (they were having mail problems) and found the UI (of the phone generally, not just the TouchFlo) rather sluggish.
The TouchFlo part doesn't seem very smooth at times, and the general browsing of the phone such as Programs etc is sometimes slow to respond.
Are the Diamond's usually like this? I was thinking of getting one as my next phone (couldnt belive the size of the Diamond compared to my TYTN-II, I just love the look of the Diamond ). I remember my XDA II was kinda slow, but it was due to the programs etc that O2 pre-load onto it.
I know this particular phone is pretty much straigh out the box as it comes ... if it were my phone I would of customised the hell out of it already
Hello,
I flashed a T-Mobile MDA Vario III with HTC latest official rom (WM 6.1) and now screen rotation on slide out / in is much slower. Sometimes it takes up to 4 seconds.
Any ideas?
Best Regards,
Craig Brass
I can't really point to a solution with the ROM you're using; in fact I'd be willing to guess that it's just a side-effect of that particular ROM - I don't imagine the Radio ROM in your device not being best-suited for the OS ROM would deliver slow screen rotation as a side-effect.
All I can say is that I recently flashed to AthineOS and EVERYTHING is quick on it. Screen rotation when sliding occurs within a second I'd say - it might be slightly over a second, I haven't timed it, but either way it's very quick, and quicker than the T-Mobile WM6.0 ROM...
Anyway, hope you get it sorted... Let us know if you find a solution for your current ROM.
Regards,
Rob.
T-Mobile considerations
I seem to recall HTCs fix for this in their HTC Branded WM 6.1 'upgrade' involved more than just the ROM but if the radio and spl are going to be upgraded as well, people need to make sure there are backups of the originals first because in some countries (and Craig didn't say where he's from or fill in that part of his profile), T-Mobile use customised versions and special network configuration. Perhaps a T-Mobile customer can comment whats reqd from experience? I haven't tried searching but I suspect that'd pull something relevant up as well.
Ok, I flashed with AthineOS as suggested. Nearly perfect. Couple of things :-
1. I flashed the official dialer for the voice calling. Before, when launched, it would show Contacts as the left button. Now it shows Hide Keypad. How do I get it to show Contacts again?
2. TouchFlo 3D shows the calender list but when clicked it launches the default phone calender app. I have Developer One Agenda One Installed and I want it to launch this. How do I do that?
hi,
what are the differences between the offical uk r2aa008 and the r2aa010 roms?
not a huge amount if you windiff them.. But enough to make R10 a little bit quicker.
i got r2aa008 installed at mo. i know it has a newer radio but not sure if its worth waiting till r3 comes out as it ok on speed at the mo.
does the radio make a difference? in cellphone (mobile phone) signal?
I just updated radio , from R2A to latest , just to see any changes , everything looks the same , signal , batery , its OK , but no change for me .
Its working as nice as before .
I actually did notice some difference signalwise, when i made this update a while back. I spend a lot of time in an area where there is a constant shift between 3G and 2G and after the update I now rarely loose the 3G signal, before I had to be in a ceratin spot in the room to catch it.

TBH, R2AA008 is slower than R2AA010, however, I've noticed a few glitches in v10, i.e. screen tearing after using QTv functions, as well as sometimes mo hangs for a bit... I did only a few tweaks, same as I did on v08. There was no such problem on that version.
Cannot wait enough to get my hands on R3
i upgraded my rom yesterday (lots of probs restoring backup) to find that it says i still have not got the latest radio.
so i will have to hardspl to put the latest radio on. i too cant wait for the r3 firmware.
What I found different between R2AA008 and R2AA010:
1. Touchflo scrolling smoother.
2. Speed seems to be a bit faster.
3. Bluetooth headphone is more stable (BT connection with headphone disconnected very often after the phone call in R2AA008)
4. Panel Manager is much smoother and quickier.
5. Have to reset about 2 or 3 times a week with R2AA008 and about once in 2 weeks with R2AA010).
6. Less touch screen driver crashes (R2AA008 has many touch screen driver crashes - can't touch anything and have to reset the device).

1. using the b3 cab of mainia, did not improve in anyway with upgrade.
2. think your right here.
3. dont use bluetooth handphone.
4. im using the new panel manager, no real changes.
5. never had to reset the phone much on any rom.
6. never had that prob.
i only really upgrade to get the new radio and everything else was extra but now have to upgrade radio separate with means hardspl (what i did not really want to do).
TouchFlo scrolling dies not have anything to do with Manila in this case...it's just the ability to scroll with your finger in any app...
the new radio .71 that i upgraded to (as .76 suppost to be not as good) seems to be good so far. although my signal has not improved, it does not seem to lose signal for no reason like the old one did.

Yeah, That's right. It is a scrolling feature in all programs. One thing annoying though, can't disable it for specific programs like in Ftouchflo. My favourite Phatpad software is not working well.
I tried to disable with class name but don't seem to work. HTC should have a config program for this. They have it what..? Only sound on/off.

Yes, it is. Very useful but very annoying too when you want to use note taking and drawing applications.
But buitt-in note program is fine. When SIP is active the scrolling didn't kick in.
