Keyboard? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Anyone have any issues with the keyboard on the diamond? I see everyone say its alright but how good is it compared to other phones?

I've used the Diamond and the iPhone and I must say the Diamond's soft-keyboard is much better than the iPhone's. I'm only talking about the Full Qwerty keyboard though.
The Diamond's keyboard can interpret which key you meant to press if you accidentally hit multiple ones by judging the pressure you used. It also has multiple values on the same key, so you can hold "Q" for example and get "1", this removes the need to constantly switch keyboards to input numbers or punctuation.

Try to use touchpal keyboard, it's fine.

help!
oryt?..
jus upgraded my rom on my htc touch diamond
but the keyboards have been scrambled, there is no qwerty, no keyboard and no phone keypad inpuit methods, just a retro small keyboard difficult to use,
any ideas on how to get the old keyboards back?

The Diamond onscreen keyboard is very usable. I was used to the Hermes keyboard and I thought I would struggle with the onscreen keyboard. But I soon find myself liking the onscreen keyboard. One nice feature is the way it is layout and I rarely need to swtich between letters and numbers modes.

HTC touch keyboard

How do I disable the phone style keyboard, and only have the proper 123/qwerty one, in contacts the keyboard changes to the 3 press phone one, but on other apps is the proper wide one?
touch keyboard changes its layout depending on what app you are using i think.
Can't really answer your question though.. lol sorry :O
I'd still like to lock, or remove some screens.
This bothers me too. I've tried playing with all the various XT9 options.
It would also be nice to have the HTC Touch keyboard work in landscape mode with out having to slide out the keyboard
is there any way to ALWAYS use the touch keyboard? no sometimes the touchkeyboard and sometimes the touch T9 keyboard?
bothers me too... I want to use the keyboard that I can see when there is nothing to type... but the keys are big enough and seperate from each other...

I've gone back to this, even though it is a bit unstable.

Looking for List of Keyboard Apps

Anyone know of a list of available keyboard apps? Haven't been able to find much on the forum.
Thanks and sorry for the noob question.
Here's a few I can really recommend...
1. Touchpal: http://www.cootek.com/intro.aspx
2. Resco Keyboard Pro: http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/keyboard/
3. PocketCM Keyboard: http://www.pocketcm.com/keyboard2.php
Hopefully people can add more to the list but these 3 are my favorites... Touchpal is the best imo and it's the one I use the most...
I'm really starting to like PocketCM Keyboard. It's quick and unobtrusive and has pretty good spelling correction.
What about Phone-pad T9 keyboards? Touchpal is seriously lacking when it comes to the phonepad layout; its so fiddly and buttons are way too small still. All my HTC SIPs are broken since installing the Softbank Keytouch (Japanese) SIP, and i am desparate to find another T9 solution.
Every T9 keyboard i have seen tries to fit too many buttons on the screen, and the space is always an afterthought (tiny little button next to something else). On a regular phone you ONLY need 12 keys to provide text input, maybe 13 to allow you to change input modes. The Keytouch layout is perfect, 12 biiig buttons and 4 tiny buttons down the side for options; but it doesnt have T9 predictive text
Anyone know decent options?
Finger Keyboard works wondefully, see this link, http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=163013&d=1236103349 or search here in xda.
thanks
Here are my findings (keep in mind this is just MY opinion)
- I'm using a HTC Touch Diamond
- I'm using the default orientation, NO LANDSCAPE
Rankings (best to worst):
---------
Touchpal
- largest learning curve
- FASTEST for typing (I'm using the 20 key layout)
- most features (smileys, arrows, macros for web, etc)
- full version costs 12$ (a little steap) but might be worth it, great product
2.) PocketCM and Finger Keyboard TIE
- both are great for FULL qwerty but can't match the speed of touchpal
- had to find skins for both to increase the button size to make it easier to type FAST with thumb(s).
Didn't try the Resco Keyboard Pro
Thanks for the links guys!

HELLO
I am not a devolper and mostly a free user, BUT IVE MANAGED TO get japanese input/output with iphone skin keyboard (without the gestures and loss of t9 and suggested words).
I use a wwe wm6 rom on a HTC TOUCH DIAMOND *s21ht emobile* I didnt necessairly change the regional setting, i used resco file explorer and registry editor. I DONT USE touchflo but spb mobile shell 3.5
IT ONLY WORKED FOR ME AFTER I RESTORED MY DIAMOND TO FACTORY SETTINGS. if you have any other keyboard, resco, spb keyboard, letsjapanno6, im sure it wont work as well, or wont work at all.

TO SELECT SKIN, go to happy tapping input options and browse for required vga or qvga skin for portrait and landscape> I WOULD SUGGEST DOING THIS AT THE VERY END after the soft reset
**for those unaware of happy tapping keyboard, it has an ime button which enables the device to switch from jap to eng. NO Need for ctrl shift, shift ctrl or having to deal with small ms keyboard or other keyboards that dont work appropiatetly with japanese input.
** The ugly side: The loss of t9 function and suggested words, requires more space on your device

I would like to thank flinx1 for the ime and sip name fix and A_C for his happytapping keyboard post.
I hope this helps.

[Q] keyboard help!

when ever i try to compose a message and when i go to the "to" field the qwerty keyboard turns into the number pad and its really annoying because i want to type in peoples name!??? help. i am running the holicakes rom.
try installing the "hackers keyboard" from the market, its a fairly nice keyboard replacement thats free, see if that one has the same issue
I use it because in wide screen it gives you arrow and other function keys.
warning: it is much uglier than the htc sense keyboard

[Q] Is there a way to disable the onscreen keyboard when using an external keyboard?

Hi all,
is it possible to stop the onscreen keyboard being displayed when you are using a BT or USB keyboard?
It just wastes half of the screen when you don't need to see the onscreen keyboard.
thanks,
Rich
Try disabling the keyboards from language and inputs.
but I presume on of them is system persistent. But just try and let us know.
There is a Null Keyboard app that just does nothing. I installed that and select it when I use an external keyboard.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wparam.nullkeyboard
Thanks Null Keyboard is what I need. Shame there isn't an option to do it through the system. It seems pretty obvious that if you have an external keyboard connected, you aren't going to need the onscreen keyboard.
It is actually quite easy, all you have to do is tap the return (back) button and the keyboard will sink in. I use a BT keyboard with both Samsung's QWERTY and Google's Japanese input (Beta) and in both cases I can get rid of the onscreen keyboard without a hitch.
What I'm really curious to know thugh if there is a good tutorial for keys you can use to edit while writing, selecting, copying, pasting, making bold or cursive, that kind of thing.

Keyboard lag

There is a slight delay switching from the letter keyboard to the numbers and signs keyboard. I would be texting and trying to put a ? But because I am typing to fast it appears as a k instead of a ?
Is anyone else having this problem?

I find the HTC keyboard also a bit laggy. But I switched back to the official paid version of Swype. No lags and better imho.
I tried Swype didn't really like it. Gonna try other keyboards. But the lag is gone from Swype but I don't like how the keyboard has a Swype key where the symbols key suppose to be. Also the vibrate on the Swype key is too intense compared to the HTC keyboard.

I use swift key for typing. Very accurate and better than stock. Don't like the design as much though. Also like it better than swype which I tried out for a bit.

I'm trying to use swift right now which is a lot better the swipe Imo. But I am used to traditional way of inserting symbols and numbers where the numbers were on top and symbols at the bottom two rows. Because I came from iPhone which I've been using for the past 3 years.
But this one gives a number pad with symbols on the right side of the keyboard. But I set so I don't have to hold down as long for symbols which is very good and I might stick to this keyboard. I feel it is a lot better then the stock keyboard. I feel I would be typing a lot faster once I get used to holding down keys for symbols and numbers.
But is there a way to add words to your dictionary? Cause tapping the word on the suggestions doesn't say added to dictionary.
