There is a slight delay switching from the letter keyboard to the numbers and signs keyboard. I would be texting and trying to put a ? But because I am typing to fast it appears as a k instead of a ?
Is anyone else having this problem?

I find the HTC keyboard also a bit laggy. But I switched back to the official paid version of Swype. No lags and better imho.
I tried Swype didn't really like it. Gonna try other keyboards. But the lag is gone from Swype but I don't like how the keyboard has a Swype key where the symbols key suppose to be. Also the vibrate on the Swype key is too intense compared to the HTC keyboard.

I use swift key for typing. Very accurate and better than stock. Don't like the design as much though. Also like it better than swype which I tried out for a bit.

I'm trying to use swift right now which is a lot better the swipe Imo. But I am used to traditional way of inserting symbols and numbers where the numbers were on top and symbols at the bottom two rows. Because I came from iPhone which I've been using for the past 3 years.
But this one gives a number pad with symbols on the right side of the keyboard. But I set so I don't have to hold down as long for symbols which is very good and I might stick to this keyboard. I feel it is a lot better then the stock keyboard. I feel I would be typing a lot faster once I get used to holding down keys for symbols and numbers.
But is there a way to add words to your dictionary? Cause tapping the word on the suggestions doesn't say added to dictionary.

How do I disable the phone style keyboard, and only have the proper 123/qwerty one, in contacts the keyboard changes to the 3 press phone one, but on other apps is the proper wide one?
touch keyboard changes its layout depending on what app you are using i think.
Can't really answer your question though.. lol sorry :O
I'd still like to lock, or remove some screens.
This bothers me too. I've tried playing with all the various XT9 options.
It would also be nice to have the HTC Touch keyboard work in landscape mode with out having to slide out the keyboard
is there any way to ALWAYS use the touch keyboard? no sometimes the touchkeyboard and sometimes the touch T9 keyboard?
bothers me too... I want to use the keyboard that I can see when there is nothing to type... but the keys are big enough and seperate from each other...

I've gone back to this, even though it is a bit unstable.
Anyone have any issues with the keyboard on the diamond? I see everyone say its alright but how good is it compared to other phones?
I've used the Diamond and the iPhone and I must say the Diamond's soft-keyboard is much better than the iPhone's. I'm only talking about the Full Qwerty keyboard though.
The Diamond's keyboard can interpret which key you meant to press if you accidentally hit multiple ones by judging the pressure you used. It also has multiple values on the same key, so you can hold "Q" for example and get "1", this removes the need to constantly switch keyboards to input numbers or punctuation.
Try to use touchpal keyboard, it's fine.
help!
oryt?..
jus upgraded my rom on my htc touch diamond
but the keyboards have been scrambled, there is no qwerty, no keyboard and no phone keypad inpuit methods, just a retro small keyboard difficult to use,
any ideas on how to get the old keyboards back?

The Diamond onscreen keyboard is very usable. I was used to the Hermes keyboard and I thought I would struggle with the onscreen keyboard. But I soon find myself liking the onscreen keyboard. One nice feature is the way it is layout and I rarely need to swtich between letters and numbers modes.
Have any of you tried the GB keyboard on the vogue? I've been wrestling with it for a while but haven't had much success.

I quickly tried it yesterday, and the keyboard was all "mushed" together at the bottom, didn't really have any time to try figure out whats going on with it
i got it to load on my vogue it worked but it took up 3/4 of the screen your going to have to wait till the source drops to get one that scales to 240x320
Wierd, all I could get to come up is the squished down version of it too. The kb works on the wildfire which has the same resolution as we do.
This may be a little off topic, but I was wondering if there is any way to have 4 rows of letters on a android keyboard rather than the current 3 rows of letters. I find that I often mistype words because the keys are too small. I would prefer to have 4 rows of letters which would mean less letters per row but wider keys. Does anyone know if a keyboard like this exist?

You can try a compact keyboard. I'm not sure if the HTC IME keyboard has it. But I do have Ultra Keyboard which has the "swiping feature" and the compact keyboard. PM me if your interested.
I got the keyboard loaded up and working on my vogue and it does take up a lot of screen real estate. That is not such a bad thing in my book, it's a bit easier for me to type on in portrait mode than the stock froyo keyboard. Doing the sequence of resolution changes was a pain in the @ss on this tiny screen.
So I've been using swype recently and some things really bug me and have no idea how to fix it. Every time I want to type something and the swype keyboard comes up, it always has the selector arrow present. So if i want to type anything that starts in the upper left right where W is, I have to wait like 3 seconds for the arrow to disappear otherwise, accidentally hit the arrow.
PS. can someone also tell me how to DELETE words. "Soooooo" is in the dictionary for some reason -_-
Not sure to what selection arrow you are referring, but if you go into Swype settings (long press the Swype key) there is an option to manage three user dictionary.

when you first hit a text box, the swype keyboard comes up. there is a selector slider arrow in the text field, light blue right where the "W" key is on the captivate portrait mode.
i know of the user dictionary, however, is there a way to delete the built swype words..

I dont think there is a way to delete from the prebuilt dictionary unless you modified the root file somehow.
Heres a little bit on swype though. I love it. I have used it for almost 2 years now as my only keyboard because Im sold on texting and typing with one hand. Heres the bad part. Swype tries to be an application that can go on almost any Android phone. This attempt to be universal really makes for an application that doesnt perform to its peak on any one phone. To elaborate, swype always has background processes running. Why? Why does a keyboard need that? Second, it does have bugs. More than once it just stopped letting me input text and I was forced to uninstall and reinstall the beta application.
So pick your poison here. You can deal with an app that isnt going to ever be what it could be, or pick a keyboard made for your phone or just one made better. (I stuck with swype.)
Pretty sure the stock keyboard runs in the background too. And when it locks up on you, just switch to the stock keyboard and it will have frozen too. Then switch back

Swype pet peeves
It turned out to a bloatware with Swype connect spying on you.
I'm using stock Samsung KB on ICS, it has my 2 languages. Not ideal for everyone. There is also Android KB which has all the langs.
Hi all,
I'd like to get an smaller onscreen keyboard that doesn't take up half of the screen. This would allow me see more at a glance. Currently I hide/unhide the keyboard when I want to see more, but that is annoying because half the time when you unhide the keyboard, it covers up the part of the document you want to edit.
I've found SlideIT keyboard which lets you resize the keyboard, which is pretty cool.
It has a Swype like function as well as normal tap. The swype like functions works pretty well, but it doesn't seem as good as Swype in terms of picking the correct word. I think this is partially an accuracy thing (you have to be more accurate with SlideIt) and also there are quite a few common words that haven't been in the dictionary (but I've been adding them as they occur, so this should reduce over time).
Does anyone know of any other keyboards that aren't as big as the stock keyboard?
I'm in the 15 day trial of Slide IT, so if I don't find another, I'll probably end up getting this one.
thanks,
Rich
Thumb keyboard lets you alter the height and width, but no swype function. I've been using TK for almost 2 years. Developer is very responsive.

I believe swiftx keyboard allows you to change the height and width of keys

Thanks guys very helpful. Neither of those keyboards say that you can resize them in their market descriptions, which is why I didn't try them before.
I liked Swiftkey the best out of the 2. The word prediction is pretty amazing in Swiftkey. I could be incredibly sloppy with my typing and it still picked the right word most of the time.
It does require thumb typing to be fast though, and I realised that most of the time I hold my phone cradled in one hand and then use the other to swype or tap out words with 1 or 2 fingers or the SPen.
I like the word prediction of Swiftkey, but the input method and smaller keyboard size of SlideIT... I'll keep trying both of those for a bit longer before deciding...
Cheers,
Rich
Smart Keyboard is also an option. You can customize it in various ways. Among others you have the possibility to adapt the size of the keys and therefore the entire keyboard.

Thanks. I like that you can get Smart Keyboard to take up less screen space than Swiftkey.
But I think I like the word prediction on Swift Key better.
And I still think swiping is quicker for me, although the SlideIT keyboard is not as good as the Samsung Swype for word prediction and being lenient on how accurate your swipe path needs to be.
