How do you get the Garmin Mobile XT onto your diamond ?
hmm I had no problem with that. I just put few GB card in to Diamond, and on the pc run GarminMobileXTforWindowsMobile_42050w.exe. wizard appeared, you select the storage (if you want to install to device memory or to card) and thats it. then, if you want, you can install other support files - GarminMobileXTFreeBasemap_4xxxx.exe and GarminMobileXTSupportFiles_4xxxx.exe. then need to use a mapsource program to upload maps. working like a charm in here. all files can be found on www.garmin.sk.

How did you do that? The Diamond doesn't even have a card slot, does it? I thought it was 4Gb fixed internal storage.

Hi Peeps,
Its been a while since i've been in the PDA scene... the TyTN II tempted me back.
Took delivery of my SanDisk SDHC 4Gb card this morning, plugged in and working a-okay.
Now, I'm wanting to install all my apps now. The installer greys out the option to choose your own install location?! Wanting to keep system memory to the max you see...
Anyone know how i get around this?
Cheers,
Matt
Do you install using ActiveSync ? Which version?
I sure do... well i'm running vista so is the "Windows Mobile Device Center" now - version 6.1.6965
i am having similar problem but my sd install is not greyed out but there is a problem with programs that have to write to the SD card.
I installed 2 programs that I have installed on a WM 6 ROM on my 8525 - these programs have to sync data and the data is written to a folder where the program is installed. If I install the program on the main memory of the TyTN II then it works just fine but if install it to the SD card it will not work - it locks up when trying to write data on the SD card of the TyTN II.
Any ideas on how to change security or access to the SD card so the device has full access to it????
It looks serious problem
However, it could be that the application is not yet compatible with the Tytn II ?
I think it is worth to ask to the developer of the application, he might have a clue or could create somekind of debug tool to verify.
I have not installed anything to the SD though.

Try this, will you?
I've found this app on another forum, but couldn't try it yet since i still am waiting for the arrival of my sdhc card.
Also, try these too.

I'll try the drivers and let you know but the problem is that I this issue with 2 different programs both of which worked fine on my Hermes with WM6 Roms!
I tried the different SD drivers and the TyTNN II was not able to access the SD card at all until I uninstalled the driver.
Interestingly the problem is only when the applications try to write to the card while doing a "sync" process where the app writes updated data to the SD card. The program otherewise works fine and installs fine.
Btw , it is only a 2GB card. I tried reformatting it and using a different card but no luck.
I think the issue is some sort os a security thing where the OS is errantly preventing writing to the SD card within the application.
Any other suggestions? I'm going to notify the place where I bought the Kaiser but also going to try to contact HTC.
I contacted HTC and they said that the device hadn't "really been released" yet and that with third party software they would not be of any help !!!!!!!!!
Can't believe they were so unhelpful. I even explained that others were having some other issues with SD cards and that it was more than one progeam giving me problems.
His answer was to - "just install your programs in the main memory"
Hope i don't experience such a thing with my universal since i just ordered a 4gb sdhc 2 days ago!

Well, that won't work at all, since the Universal doesn't support SDHC!!!!

THAT SOUNDS Annoying
there are some programs that just dont work being installed on the external storage. spb mobile shell is one of them and i know their are others. its because of the way the os boots is has to be on the internal storage for it to work properly. its not a fault, its ben the same with wm5 some apps are just meant to be instaslled on the internal storage. so check on hte applications home page or where you downloaded it from for its compatability and installation instructions

Absolutely - however, in my case the program (according to the developers who are working diligently with me to solve this issue) say the program I have been sucessfully using 2003, WM5 and then WM6 installed on the SD card (for several years) will NOT work on the Kaiser.
There is undoubtedly something different about the device and how it handles communication with the SD card. I have tried differnt cards (size, brand etc) and still the Kaiser won;t allow the program to write to the card during certain phases of a "sync" process.
Hopefully this is not a major issue for others but for my sake I hope it is enough of an issue to get some attention form someone smarter than me so I can (selfishly) get a fix for my issue
Well trying to flash a rom, but wondering can my phone format my sd card? Laptop not working so have to try this step.
????
I don't think so......If you could I wouldn't use the phone.....if you think about it everything you do to your phone you use your PC not your PPC
I'd use a reader and use a program to format your card
hope this helps
why is your PC not doing the job?
use windows explorer....

My pc is broken (need a new one). I was read one of the post about flashing from sd card and I need to format first. I know a Samsung Blackjack you can format it from the phone, just wondering is that possible from a Kaiser.
This is do-able using some available software out there...none free that I know of.
I think Pocket Mechanic, Memmaid, and SKTools are capable of formatting an SD card.

So you made NO CHANGE (V2 to V2) and now can't FORMAT your card?
Formatting is not something that you do in the phone is it?
Are you sure that it is seated correctly - take it out and put it back in?
Can you write to the card with a computer?
Bill
soory, to v4 i meant. Yes, Can write to the card with my PC. I pulled it out many times, flashed also.
The icon of Storage Card has something like sim card on the half of it? Why it is so.
It is no big issue that can't format it, but to save time when need deleting all files it is inportant.
Any other suggestions ?
why are you formatting the card in the phone? why not format it via PC ?

Totally lost here...
You imply in your message that you had version 2 of this ROM and that the card was in the phone and worked flawlessly - no issues.
You imply that by simply upgrading that you cannot FORMAT the card now. Can you read from the card and write to the card in this new ROM? or is this card magically DEAD now that you have upgraded?
I am assuming that you REMOVED the card when upgrading and possibly that you took a static charge hit on the card while it was out of the phone?
Or that you did NOT remove the card - please note that recently (last couple of days) I remember seeing that someone ELSE messed up their card by leaving it in the phone while flashing a ROM update.
Bill

No idea - here are my current guesses:
1. somehow your card got write protected?
2. somehow the upgrade corrupted your card?
3. the new ROM cannot read cards of that size?
4. something else that I have no idea about.
Personally - without trying to read this card on a PC I would not continue to mess with it. You will FOR CERTAIN corrupt it if you keep trying.

umm.. buy one, they're cheap and handy...
I got one from Brando..
It's out of stock right now, but it was only $12 with $3 shipping anywhere in the world..
---I assume we're talking about microSd card here right?
Product link: http://usb.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=00293&dept_id=015&cat_id=031
I got a card reader that supports micro SDHC !
So, in the main directory i have a file named EncFiltLog.menc - and this is why i can't format from card reader or ppc. I even can't delete it, what I am gonna do ?
As I understood from this forum and google this file can't be removed after hard reset, right ?
i have this exact same problem too.
using a sandisk 4gb microSDHC
same message using resco and also on L26 V4

Same exact card, same exact problem.
Did you ever figure it out?
Im facing same issue, I think that root cause is within XIP.
i too have the same issue. i opened tom tom one day and tom tom closed on me and the micro sd had lost everything off it. now the card cannot be used.
did anyone find a way to format the card to use it again?
I think you can only format the card on the PC and not on the phone itself, if im correct ive seen a forum post here on xda-dev... (by searching: menc) give it a go and good luck!
I have already upgraded my ROM once with a Faria Rom which I thought was brill. The problem is I purchased and installed Tom Tom onto my PDA. I have to have the Tom Tom mini SD card in my PDA (I have tried copying the contents of the Tom Tom card onto a larger capacity SD card but that jus does not work for me) and thus can not put anything onto SD card. Given that Faria's Rom takes up such a large amount of space on my ancient Wizard I can not put much else onto my PDA. What would be ideal was if there was a ROM with the Tom Tom installed already on it (without the need for an SD Card). I know that you can buy PDA's with Tom Tom already installed; not sure if that means already installed on the ROM. Is there such a ROM that I can obtain anywhere? If so, does it still require a mini SD card from Tom Tom?
Any info would be appreciated.
Hi
Its dificult to find a Wizard ROM with TomTom already installed.
My Kaiser ROM have's it installed ye.but they are just for kaiser.
I advise you to look for the TomTom cab"Use my links and aceed my 4Shared folder,i think i have uploaded it there". If not just go to search feature in XDA Dev and insert the magic words (Tom Tom Cab) and search. Also use Google. Internet put the world in our hands, just type the Magic Words and on u go .
If you have the Maps, just put them in a SD Card wen Tom Tom installed.
Dont give up,try to think that we made the machine,so we are more stuborn ok.
Hope that this helps.
Many thanks for your post.
Thanks for that but I will sadly admit that I am not that techy enough to know how to take the Kaiser part of your ROM with Tom Tom and putting that into another ROM for my Wizard (if that's what you were suggesting; sorry if I got it wrong). I am to scared of bricking my phone to try at the moment. Can you suggest some threads with instructions on how to do this? If that is possible than I would assume it is also possible to put the maps I have onto the Rom as well?
I think I have found your CAB file but I probably have the CAB file on the Tom Tom mini SD anyway. So if I can figure out how to incorporate it into a ROM I may give it a shot. However, I warn in advance that I am really not a great techy.
I did a general search on Google for "ROM Tom Tom" and got a lot of spoof sites.
nonono, what he is saying is the there is a ROM for the Kaiser that includes Tom Tom, but that there is not one for the Wizard at the moment.
What you need to do, is download JUST the Tom Tom software .cab file from his link above, and then copy the maps for your region off of the Tom Tom SD card. Then, simply install the Tom Tom software (.cab file) onto your regular SD card, and copy the maps over to your regular SD card in the Tom Tom directory(or wherever they go/not sure).
I am assumeing that you know how to install .cab files on your phone correct?
Thanks for that. Do appreciate the explanation.
That doesn't, however, get over the fact that I want my SD slot free to store music, games, etc on. I might as well use the SD card I have now with Tom Tom if that is the case?
The problem is that the Tom Tom card is only 1GB (I think) and Tom Tom takes the majority of that. I have tried copying it on to a 4GB card but as soon as I place anything else on the 4GB card (other than Tom Tom) it is written over by the Tom Tom. Basically I want to have my SD slot free to put other stuff onto the SD Card.
Hmm, seems to me that you need to copy the Tom Tom card to your computer first, then copy what stuff you want to keep on your current SD card to your PC aswell, then load it all on there at the same time...and if that doesnt work...well, im out of ideas! Heh, but it shouldnt overwrite what you have on your card already(or vice versa), do you have a good file hirearchy? IE, things inside of folders and whatnot? Not just scattered around?
if tomtom takes all the space on your 1gig card then how the heck is it going to fit in a rom?
The ROMs with TomTom built in include only the executable- not the maps, so you'd still need to have that MiniSD card full of the maps. Sorry.
The folder containing the tomtom cab file is the 2577 folder but all you need to do is to just copy the whole of the sd card to a folder on your pc, then copy it all out of the folder on your pc, back onto your 4gb card. If you are still running out of space, or as you put it, tomtom overwrites the files then maybe you havent applied an sdhc patch to allow the wizard to see all of the 4gb card?
Oh as an added point if you just copy the map folder over to your 4gb folder and put that into your wizard then tomtom will work and you can try installing some apps onto it, you want have voices on it though, but worth trying just to see if it is the sdhc patch thats missing

Anyway, thanks for straightening me out....
all kidding aside, I agree that the SDHC fix is the only real solution to this problem (But does it work with the Wizard? It doesn't according to my searches.). Getting a ROM with TomTom preinstalled is no different from installing TomTom to your main memory. You still need a Storage Card to download Maps to. You might try a 2 gig card that isn't branded SDHC.
...
i have tom tom 7 which will fit onto a 512 card if you want it pm me and ill upload asap
Hi,
Had been running throught the internet but can't find an answer. I have GenYBoot installed and Android 2.2.1 running from Internal storage of my HTC Touch Diamond. I have a problem with SD-card in Android which ... does not exist. If I want to save something it says that there is no SD-card - please insert the card. Device desen't see any additional storage than own memory (<200MB). There is no need to say it's anoying as it doesn't allow me even to download ringtones....
Could you advise please?
Thanks,

Solution
Just a simple trick
I don know what rom ur using, but i had da same prob
Jus delete every single file in the 4gb storage first, then put ur android files fresh ther and start the haret file from file explorer. This should do da trick, it did it for me.

Alright first download this HP FORMAT TOOL
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,64963-order,4/description.html
second, copy all the contents from your INTERNAL SD only card onto your desktop
third, run the tool and choose between quick format [works for me all the time] or full format. Once done re-copy all your files back on the INTERNAL
