Can anyone get their cingular internet (edge) to work?
yea.. i did. you just have to extract the files from the Cingular EXT Rom. It includes a CAB to enable Edge and the Edge icon.
*In the attached EXT ROM, Signed_Edge_Icon is the Icon itself, and EONs is the cab that actually enables Edge. Install EONs first then the icon.
~Stefanelli~
Thank You !!!!!
Okay, I installed both like you said and it still does the same thing. When I click on IE, it says it can not connect with current connection settings. To change your settings, tap settings.
Is there a setting I still need to change? How do I access the edge icon you were talking about that.
Have you tried running this cab file?

am I supposed to do something after I install the cab file or is it supposed to work automatically?
You have to make sure that you have the correct settings in!
Go to Connections, then to advanced. Tap 'Select Networks'. Create a new connection profile, name it MEdia Net.
Then tap Modem and tap...
Create New
(name it Cingular)
Enter a name for the connection. From the "Select a modem" drop-down, select Cellular Line (GPRS).
Tap Next.
In the "Access point name" field enter wap.cingular.
Tap Next.
Verify the following profile settings, then tap Advanced:
Username: [email protected]
Password: CINGULAR1
Domain: Blank
Verify the following settings and tap Ok.
Use server assigned IP address: Selected
Use specific IP address: Unselected
Use software compression: Unchecked
Use IP header compression: Checked
Tap Finish.
Tap Ok.
Give that a try.
Just so you know... Those settings are for Cingular users... not AT&T... so if you are AT&T tell me and I'll give you settings for that... but what you have said tells me you are Cingular. Hope I've helped.
I am cingular.
okay, when i attempt to connect to the internet, it says the answering modem has disconnected. to check your connection settings, go to settings...bla bla bla.
Is the password "CINGULAR1" was the 1 and caps typo?
no it should be caps and there should be a 1 at the end.. the settings i gave you are directly off the cingular support site.. so they should work..
-Stefanelli-
Oh good GOD, I was the one with the typo. I was typing WPA (like the encryption) instead of WAP. Thanks for the help. I'd buy you a beer if I could
If you simply run the cab that golfernutnflorida posted all those GPRS settings are there.
I'm on Cingular and I'll be damned if I had to put those settings in by hand the numerous times, sometimes daily, that I flash a new experimental ROM!
In other words, I keep that exact cab on my SC.
Exactly! The less I have to put in under a Rom Flashing, the better.

Has anyone been able to get onto AT&T's (Cingular's) Streaming video site with their unlocked TyTN II here in the States?
http://cingularvideo.cingular.com/
It does not detect the phone as a 3D phone, or so it says.
I had no problems getting to the http://device.home/ page though.
I just get a blank, white screen.
doesn't work for me either... Same error. Not a 3G phone.

isn't there a reg hack where you trick the the CV side into thinking you have a Samsung Blackjack, which is a supported device?
This link has a 8525.cab that allows you to get technical difficulties (for me at least, i don't have wireless.cingular.com:80 set as proxy)

shogunmarks cab with realplayer could be your huckleberry too

I dont remember the exact change (been a while) but yeah look in the Hermes forum....also you will find MANY threads so look for the newer ones as ATT and WM6 went through stages of what works for this. It is a PIE issue.
Read into the first dozen posts or so:
I don't live in a 3G area so I can't test...

I got it too work, no problem. Below are my instructions.
TyTN II Users
Here are the instructions for access MediaNet and Cingular Video, or just about any at&t/Cingular link just like on the Tilt.
It’s really simple to access MediaNet. Even on at&t branded phones you have to switch from My ISP to MediaNet so you can access the MN home page or Cingular video. Here is how you do it.
Go to START, SETTINGS and select CONNECTIONS.
In the connections, select CONNECTIONS Icon.
At the bottom, select ADVANCED tab.
You will see a SELECT NETWORKS option.
Under Network Management, change the first option for MY ISP to MEDIANET.
Now click ok and reselect TASK (bottom left tab). Now your Connections now say MediaNet with a proxy option below it. We need to verify the proxy info is correct.
Select edit my proxy server, then select Advanced. You will see a window with server/proxy info. The first one is HTTP. It should have the following (wireless.cingular.com:80). If it doesn’t, select HTTP and enter the info. Now check SOCKS. It should have (LOCALHOST:1080). Again, enter it if needed.
Now you’re done. You only had to do this one time. When you done with MediaNet, all you do is switch back to MY ISP for normal surfing.
Before you continue, you have to make a change in your registry so that the proxy knows your phone as a branded phone. I choose the Tilt for this.
If you know how to use a registry editor, then look for this entry on you phone.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Internet Explorer\User Agent]
"CustomBase"="HTC_TyTN_II Mozilla/4.0"
You need to change the CustomBase to HTC-8900/1.2 Mozilla/4.0
This is what is listed for the Tilt
Save your settings and that’s it. By changing that info on my TyTN II, I am now able to access Cingular Video and MediaNet home page. I had to change my connection from My ISP to MediaNet so it would go through the Proxy.
I can now access my account information and a bunch of other areas I wasn't before on my TyTN II.
Cv http://cingularvideo.cingular.com
MN http://device.home
Note: In order to play the videos, you can download a PocketPC version of Real Player since the files are in RM format.
Does your HTTP setting stay?
Whenever I set the http to wireless.cingular.com I can then get to the CV but then after a while the screen says it cannot connect to the internet. I went back to the http setting and learned the http setting to wireless.cingular.com is not there anymore. Looks like it doesn't want to stay there.
I changed my registry to make it think I am using an AT&T Tilt instead of the HTC TyTN II.
Can anyone help?
Got It Working
I only had to do this on my HTC ADVANTAGE...
If you know how to use a registry editor, then look for this entry on you phone.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Internet Explorer\User Agent]
"CustomBase"="HTC_TyTN_II Mozilla/4.0"
You need to change the CustomBase to HTC-8900/1.2 Mozilla/4.0
MEdia Net Proxy info
I believe that the proxy info for the MEdia Net as ISP is hard coded into the ROM as it was for the Hermes.
So all you would really need to do is revise the "model" info for PIE in the registry to what they said earlier.
Do you need to do something to get RealPlayer to stream the video? I'm able to get to the video pages, but when I try to play them, they download instead (wow, there goes all my RAM!)
I did find that this only works in IE, my Opera browser still gives the error page for Cingular Video.
Read what I posted here. http://www.mobileplanet.com/ft.aspx?k=99281
When you select a video to play, it downloads a video.ram file, which contains nothing but a URL. Real Video opens this video.ram file, reads the internet URL, and then plays the video from that URL.
Note: Each time you select a video from the web site, it'll download and overwrite the last video.ram file you downloaded/saved.
Okay, changing the network settings on RP seems to have fixed it.Thanks for the great guide!

Check your e-mail accounts. POP/IMAP accounts allow you to set the connection they will use. If they don't match "Media Net" and go out to check e-mail, you'll get this error because the mail doesn't think the network's available.
There's also a setting in RealPlayer to specify the network that I had to manually change. Once I did all that, I was watching The Colbert Report clips on my phone.
ha im an idiot i was getting the temp difficluties screen but i was connected to wifi took it off and im fine that was dumb but i just tried a video and got failed to connect! lol well ill see if i did somethign else dumb lol
switched the real player settings to mn and were all good
That fix worked for me! I am able to surf/check e-mail while using the MediaNet connection - is there any real need to switch connections all the time? It seems about as fast as my non-proxy connections, but perhaps it isn't.
i can get the list of videos playingm, but when i click on it to watch it, it says " can not connect" real player......how can i change this
any still having problems with real player here u go
Go to ur tmp-file folder (normally "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp\"
u will find quite a lot of folders in there, but if u search (f3) for files ending with *.cab there will pop one file named:
"realplayer.cab" ^^
copy it to ur ppc by using active sync
this worked for me hope for u too
I have tried all of these things and it still tells me the clip is unplayable.
Hey Guys,
I am pretty much all set up. Thanks to all the help and information i was able to Flash it to Helimis Big Storage Dynamic version, added some programs. All works great. Only outstanding items:
E-mail -When i set up gmail pop connection it doesnt seem to connect to gather the messaages on 3g/Edge serivce. However, i did a test and turned on the wireless connection in the comm manager. As soon as i have done this Gmail POP3 works like a charm. As soon as i disconnect the problem persists. I have 39.99 3g data plan. Should the mail work through this data plan? or do i need to always switch to wireless in order to recieve mail? (HIGHly doubt it)
GPS- I have yet to put tomtom on, but i tried my google maps. It "worked" great at one point, I ran Quick GPS and it was able to triangulate my location (get a lock signal -7-8 satelaties), but now it doesnt work. I know i read somewhere not to mess with external GPS, but i switched to COM port 2 but i never un-checked the "auto-config GPS". Do you know what could be causing it not lock in onto my location now. I think it actually did work after i changed to COM2.
COMmanager - i updated my comm manager to duttythroy 10 button version. It has a 3g button to disable it since it drains a lot of battery power. However, how do i disable the GPRS/EDGE doesnt it drain power as well? i see in the Kaiser section there is also duttythroy_data_disconnection+_hspda-switch.cab (what will this exactly doo?)
Thanks all.
Other than these my TILT is amazing.. loving it.. Thanks to everyone who posted and helped.
Dmitriy
e-mail: Does web browsing work? If so, then you might have a server setup problem. If not, call AT&T's support and ask for the PDA help group.
GPS: In my case the GPS is COM4: and 4800 baud. You can set this in "Start", "Settings", "External GPS", then let Google use the "Use Windows Settings" checkbox.
COMmanager: Use Bandswitch instead. Works much better. Latest is 2.4.2, and much be purchased, but worth every penny. (30 day trial I think tho)

GPS: - do you put this under Program or Hardware tab? Or do i put com 4 port in both places
E-mail - internet works.. So i guess Server setup problem?
COMmanager- I just took a quick glance at Bandswitch. It seems that it can do everything that ComManager + Kaiser Tweak (kaiser can set time to termination of data connection. My question is.. in the com manager- you can terminate 3g, but GPRS turns on.. does GPRS drain battery? should there be another button to turn off GPRS too?

I would love to know the answer to that one. I can only get Opera to run if I click the Java link, then copy/paste my links over. Quite tedious.
I would also like a 1-click way to start Opera....

Opera issues
Hey guys, i dont know what happened, but now all the sudden when i use Opera EVERY link i click on i end up loosing Medianet connection and it trys to re-establish it. It ultimatelly suceeds and loads the page... but this does not happen with Internet Explorer (everything works fine there). I also have KaiserTweak set to disconnect internet after 1 min of inactive use.. but its definatelly not that.. since i am active during my "test" browsing period. (which i did)
Any ideas.. i mean ITS Extremelly SLOW (sometimes 4 attempts to re-establish connection) and annoying.. It is also weird that it does actually make the 3g connection but then it breaks for no reason (tested in various locations)
Thanks for previous help - all those problems been solved - Except linking opera to all links (i click on) -> I am reading the trade posted in this thread about it.
- Question though.. i dont need to place a link into windows folder i guess since when i click explorer softkey it automatically opens Java Midlet. Or do i still need to perform that step?

I'm not sure whats causing your disconnect i never have that issue...but about your question...with the opera shortcut in your start menu it skips the step of opening your midlet manager then clicking on opera...then when you put that selector file in your windows folder its never asks for permission to remember your session and whatnot...it just goes straight to the home page in opera...

Anyone can help me as far as the constant disconnects?
I have a Tytn II on UK Orange. I intend to use the wifi intesively with my Exchange server for push email etc , but when I am not in a wifi zone I dont want it to automatically use any of 3g/gprs/hsdpa.
I may sometimes need to use them (hopefully activating 3g manually) if I am out and about.
I can disable hsdpa, but cannot find a way of disabling 3g/gprs without deleting the profiles in connection manager (which would mean I would have to create the profile again everytime I wanted to use it out of the office).
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Tom

Hi dude
if your intend is only to not allow to any apps to automatically use your data connection but only the wi-fi try in this way:
settings -> connections (or networks, i'm not english, sorry!) -> connections -> advance -> network selection, and there put "office network" in the both options! In this way all your apps never use your provider data connection!
I don't know how to manage different profiles, as you said, however an other way to control the connections is by installing this CommManager or look this other one with the 3G button, so you can manually turn it on/off!
hope to help you!

Hello guys n gals,
I have been searching for an answer to this (google, many times)
I cannot get my ATT Tilit w/6.1 to act as an internet connection for my Laptop.
I disable Activesync, go into the Wmodem program, tell it to start, and my computer sees it as a Palm Treo Modem I have to dial out on. According to the program description, I should be able to use the Phone to just "share" its connection. Is this an issue with 6.1? Is there someting I have to enable that wonderful ATT does not allow me to use?
I thank you all in advance for your help. Like I said i have googled a few times and nothing comes up that helps me. They all point to a program called Internet Sharing, which i dont seem to have on my tilt. I suspect this is done intentionally by ATT but hey, I gotta ask first. Help????????
Google is indeed my friend!!! LMAO!! its 4 am here in NYC and I finally found it. Now forget everything I said above!! I just have to figure out how to pin it to my programs menu or start menu! for that i am asking for your help. I am too tired to do anyore googling tonight, err, today, or whatever it is now.

It's there. The file you are looking for is entitled "intshrui.exe". It is located in the \Windows\ directory of your device. You may need to enable "view all files" for it to be visible. Once it is visible, tap and hold on it. Select copy, and then browse to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and tap and hold a blank space. Select "Paste Shortcut". After the shortcut is created, tap and hold on it, and rename it to "Internet Connection Sharing", or whatever you so desire. This is the application you will be using to enable ICS between your desktop computer, and telephone. Be sure to use wap.medianet as the access point. isp.cingular will not work if you are only on a Media Net plan. (if you have a dedicated tethering plan, it is fine to use isp.cingular if you so desire).
I don't have the ATT stock ROM on my phone any longer, but in the WModem application, there is a options menu. There is a item labeled "Configure" IIRC. Select this option, and uncheck, "Choose an access point automatically". Change isp.cingular to read wap.cingular, and save it. Restart your device. You should now be able to use your PDA as an internet gateway. Be sure you have installed either ActiveSync or WMDC on your computer. And the awnser to your inquiry regarding ATT doint it on purpose is "Yes". The phone is fully capable of tethering, but ATT wants to charge you $60/mo for the ability to use technology that already exists in your phone.
Other files of interest:
HSDPASwitch.exe
FieldTest.exe
CSDType.exe
Yep, At&t doesn't add the shorcut to ICS on their roms, its in the windows folder.
Also a not of caution, its suggested that you remove the proxy from medianet while you tether. There's stories of people getting caught tethering without the tethering plan and ending up being charged per kb on their bill (leading to a phone bill around and above $1000!).
I always make sure i've disabled the proxy, actually only time its on is to use cellular video, and I've been tethering without the tethering plan for as along as i can remember and never been charged per kb on my bill.
To disable the proxy look for a cab named removehiddenproxy and then go to start settings, connections tab on the bottom, then connections icon. advanced tab on bottom, select networks, tap edit under the first drop down box (MEdia Net should be selected) then proxy settings tab on bottom, and uncheck the second box "This network uses a proxy server to cnnect to the Internet"
