Installing TomTom maps - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

I have TomTom7 installed on my Diamond with the sample map working correctly. I have an additional map that I wish to install. I've manually extracted the files and transferred them to my internal storage. TomTom sees the map but refuses to load it stating "not the correct activation code". I have a code but not sure how to supply it.
Do I need to install the maps via PC software or is there another way to provide the activation code that I'm missing?

Much probably your activation key is wrong. TomTom requires a unique activation key for each phone that has been created for that special machine's unique device-ID.
Contact TomTom office, and ask for a new activation code.

In order to install the maps legally, you need to use TomTom Home as far as I know.

The maps were provided with the phone but I now suspect they're not legal as TomTom says they don't support V7 maps for my location!
Is there a process for installing non-standard TomTom maps?

yes. i know of a way, but you cannot discuss how to on this board.

Good try... But no operator or no provider gives TomTom maps... Only map you are gifted is from tomtom, just a local city map. I know it's expensive, but be legal and buy the maps.

Need help to install latest maps on my Go530.
Hi Everyone
I am new here on Tomtom,
I have tomtom go 530 with the
following details
Device AK7AA 8AH9S
App 9.430.890926.1. OS 842337
(2008, 21/03/2012)
64MB RAM (free 12.9MB)
GPS V1.20, Boot 5.5120
Map: 'United_Kingdom_and
_Republic_of_Ireland' v805.1801
Language: English UK
I bought this device in 2008 and then updated the maps, Now I can not afford to update to latest maps.
I know the latest maps available on tomtom website is V9.05. As I am new I will really appreciate if someone could help me with step by step to install latest maps on my Go 530 please.
I know I am being cheeky and asking
for too much but I will really
appreciate your help.

TomTom and other maps...

I have a feeling that this will become quite a discussed post. The *taster* version of TT that comes with the Kaiser allows you to download only one map - and the selection is limited.
I have a TomTom Go in my car and was wondering if I can use the map data from there? I have all of Western Europe. Obviously I'll need a memory card capable of holding it but the real question is - can you use TT Go maps on TT Mobile?
R
I suspect that the maps are attached to a particular device.
Depends on the map version you have.
I guess the Kaiser has a version 6 Tomtom. Therefore you need at least map designed for that version.
In general the maps for the Go and the WM versions of TomTom are identical. Theoretically it should work.
BUT:
Apart from that you also need a device specific activation code belonging to the map/device combination. Your maps are obviously allready activated for your Go, so you cannot activate them on a second device.
Maybe the TomTom helpdesk (forum on their site) can help you out.
Taster version of TomTom with Kaiser......is it possible to uninstall it so that I can install my own tomtom which I have got on my current sd card in trinity, as it is activated and with all maps? I mean, is this tatser verison included in ROM or is it removable from settings?
Thanks

I believe i noticed in the "retail TyTN II unboxing" video, that TomTom resides on a CD with applications in the box.... So that would mean you have to install it yourself, and in that case you can go with your own full copy of TomTom...
What i would like to know is, if version 6.030 from my Trinity will run smoothly on the Kaiser...???

tomtotm isnt on the rom. so there will be no need to uninstall anything. just put your version on and use it. its supplied on the software disk. I'll be putting my own version of tomtom onmine when i get my micro sd card hopefully tomorrow
but the version on the CD Rom is the latest (6.0.32)
the 6.0.32 version of TTN6 is specific for WM devices with built-in GPS, like the Kaiser.
So, best option is to use the app from the kaiser package and your own maps.
I think you can just copy the map folder from the TomTom Go to an microSD card and see if it is working.
I bet it is.

Legally? No. TomTom licenses you maps per device, so what you have is licensed to your GO.
Practically? Yes. You'll need one of the many keygens out there....
Can you nav guys help. I've never used GPS with my TyTN. I'm considering a TyTN II and have some questions.
Can you use the built in GPR without an external antennae with Google Maps with the TyTN II? Or do you need the TomTom or other software?
I like using Google maps.

You don't need an antenna or extra software like tomtom. Sometimes it's a bit fiddly setting up the ports to use to get say Google Maps or other software to see the inbuilt GPS - but you get there in the end!

Mike:
Thanks again for your reply. I think I may pick up the TyTN II here pretty quickly. I just wanted to hear that the built in GPS actually does something.

What port are you using in Googlemaps? I've left it at auto, which doesn't work :S

People said that Googlemaps is not so friendly with long waiting to get satelite fix. So, Googlemaps tend to disconnect and wont tell you anything.
The workaround (not nice btw), is to start TomTom to get satelite fix, then quit.
After that Googlemaps will be able to connect to the GPS and works fine.
But, sorry for asking, what are the good things of Googlemaps compare to, let say TomTom or Route66, etc. Of course, it is FREE, but other than that?
Is Googlemaps available for all continent (Europe?) ?
bear in mind that google maps is an API, not just a web site.
It is possible to write location sharing apps etc for google maps, a mobile interface would be very cool.
Guys where on earth is the tomtom cab file for version 6? I only got 2 cd's, 1 applications which only has 3 apps (but not tomtom) and the starter cd which I did look all over? Is there more than 2 cd's?
Please help, I just got the kaiser today and want to install tomtom.
Thanks.

I don't have Tomtom6 on any CDs either , I got the units from SuperiorGadgets, they are HTC Tytn II. And I tried Mapopolis, map4pda, igo 2007, Destinator 6, none can see GPS.
What is the hardware port? I checked the GPS CP app, it shows COM4: as software, none for hardware. I tried couple of settings there, none worked so far.

TomTom 6. Need assistance!

Ok I d/l the tt6 taster version I assume? It comes with with the software and one map to d/l. My question is.....where the heck do I get new maps from? I went to the site and clicked on maps and it says their system is down! It's been down for like 2 weeks now!
I open the prog on my Kaiser and it doesn't give me the option to purchase maps on there. Well at least to my knowledge it doesn't. Where do I go from here? Suggestions? I've searched and searched and all I can find is the "tasters" version. I tried d/l some other cab file for my device but it tells me I need to update my ROM for it to work.
I just want to get some maps dang it!
please!!!!! haha

Thank you! But those come on DVD disc. There is no section where I can purchase online and download map instantly?
I think you may have to install TomTom Home, which is installed on your PC. From there you can purchase maps and install it on your device. I think you can get TomTom home from TomTom's website.
I downloaded TomTom taster for Trinity (p3600) from HTC and installed that. Now to get maps
Try this link for TomTom Home (It's found under the Plus Services tab on their website). Don't forget to download the version for Rider and Navigator 6.
When it's installed, run it when connected to your phone and it will find the GPS receiver. This will pair your phone with your TomTom account (I think this pairing is generated using the IMEI) - you can then buy maps through TTHome which will be associated with your phone.

TomTom Maps

hey guys!
i "acquired" tomtom 6 for my Tilt, but it only included a US and Canada. I again "acquired" a european map. I copied it over to my SD card where my US Map is, but TomTom did not recognize the map.
What should i do?
Stop "acquiring" maps and buy them from TomTom licensed if you're going to use them.

Just put the european map in its own folder at the root of your sd card.
you cant put it inside the us map folder.
i tried putting 3 different maps into the root folder, and tomtom only recognized the US map.
piracy can't be a crime if its this easy
aquiring maps can be hard, especially for TomTom, cuz you need to make sure all of your aquired content matches... all numbers match up. so there is your problem, you probably dont have maps that match with the version of tomtom.
For the purpose of this answer I'm going to assume that you have a legal copy of TomTom and it's Maps ...
The Maps should be in the root directory of the SD card and often end in the directory name "xxxx_map".
TomTom's latest version of Maps are at v7+.
TomTom for PDA (or mine, at least) is at v6.x and will not load these maps. If you have TT6 you will need maps of v6.00 - v6.75
TomTom maps of v7+ are designed for TTGo, 5xx, 7xx, 9xx etc. and the TT O/S will be upgraded via TT Home.
In summary, the solution for TT on a TytnII - Use v6.xx maps in the root directory of the SD card.
If you do not have a legal copy of Tomtom, please do not search for answers inside this forum !!.

If Tomtom o IGo does not have maps for yor country, use a program like GPSTuner in which you can create maps for any area in the world taking them from Google Maps.
You can also use Google Maps mobile or Windows Live Search to load maps on the go and perform local search.
Maltese maps
Hello daniell
If you are from Malta you can check at Medcom Gzira (the one infront of Paul and Rocco carwash in Testaferrata street). I know a person who have a kaiser and installed Garmin software with maltese maps and he's using gps without problems. Only drawback is that maps and software are about the old LM40.
Regards,
I broguth the HTC Kaiser, and i though i have 1 free download from TOmTom, but i cannot seem to find where i cna get this download, can someone tell me, thanks
There are Garmin Navigator Maps for Malta, which are able to route you to your destination (not only showing your position on the map).

TomTom6 - how to turn on GPS

I've searched the forums and bnot found the answer to this question.
I've installed TT6 on my diamond, and it works fine, however, in order for it to get a GPS signal, I had to run google maps, and then in the menu click the turn on GPS. Presumably to turn off the GPS I'll have to go into google maps again and turn off the GPS. Is there some way of turning the GPS receiver on and off without having to go into google maps?
Thanks
Hope you don't mind me asking but how did you get GPS to work with Google maps?
When I try i get the following error;
"This programme require a data connection. Please contact your carrier or visit www.google.co.uk/gmm/configure.html on your computer for more info.
(Error: connectError [183])
With Quit or Retry the only options.
Sorry
@mcvpjd3: Believe me, you do NOT want that thing running all the time because if you do, your battery will be dead in under 2 and a half hours!!
Google maps should turn the GPS reciever on and off automatically when it is needed, as should TomTom or any other GPS program.
When nothing is talking to the GPS reciever, it goes into powersave and turns off.
Google maps has the option to use it with or without GPS and so you have the option to turn it on and off, but it should be turned off automatcially when you close the program.
@so3:does the message "This programme requires a data connection" not give you a clue?
You need a data connection for google maps to work. Just like google maps and google earth on the PC, it downloads the map and satellite images from google over the internet. If you haven't got a data connection, then it won't even start up. Sorry for the sarcasm, but that message is really self explanatory and it really does tell you what the problem is. of course, if there is more info that you have not given that would help us figure it out a bit more, i apologise and please feel free to elaborate.

How did you get TomTom Navigator 7 to work with your TomTom 6 maps, or are you just restricted to the single city trial that comes with it?
I found no mention on the TomTom site on version 7 and I have no way to buy maps or switch to another map within the software.
My TomTom home on my PC recognises it as a tomtom device and lets me load my Western Europe maps onto it, but I don't have the option to switch to the maps from within the software? Instead I have a button that has Voucher written on it that takes me to some HTC website???
just restricted to the single city map as far as i know. I don't think 7 likes the version 6 maps, but if you have any version 7 maps, they should work fine.
As for TT6, I did get that working on the diamond, but i had to set 'other NMEA' as the device type, 9600 as the baud rate and then com 4 as the com port.
Then seemed to work on and off, but got much better when i turned aGPS off using schaps advanced config.
TT7 just picked up the internal GPS chip staright away, and this thing is SOOOOO much faster than my Athena to get a signal it is unbelievebale!

Thanks - any idea how I can buy the v7 maps? I'm actually quite annoyed because I bought a brand new copy of TT6 2 days ago and it came with version 6.6 maps, and the tomtom site is now trying to sell me an 'upgrade' to v6.75 maps, but it won't let me buy v7 :s

You can't use the V7 maps within tt6. You can buy the v7 maps thru the tomtom store but then you need tomtom 7 wich isn't official released yet. If you have tt7 you can use the old v6 maps.

Hmm... Well I have a licensed version of tt6 with licensed tt6 maps (v6.6) but I can tell you for sure that these v6.6 maps don't work with tt7.
With tt7 installed, my tomtom home recognises the tomtom device and lets me copy the maps to it, but they don't appear as an option under manage maps in tt7. The only option I have is the map I downloaded from HTC or a button that says 'voucher' which takes me to the same download page on the HTC website. It also doesn't recognise 6.75 maps so unless someone is doing something dodgy to get the maps to work, I can't see how it will work with them.
I managed to get tt6 working on my diamond now though, so I'm happy for the moment. I don't think the extra features of tt7 are worth it but maybe I'll get an upgrade if they offer one when it's officially released.

I had TR home installed on my PC - V1.5 (with TT app version as 6.010 and maps. I updated to version the latest version of the maps for version 6 and then install the Cab of 7 on my device over-writing the 6 app.
