forgive I poor in English.
frist at all.
I use rom 1.37.832.4 CHT( Chinese version).
I 'd like to make my phonebook format is :
AXXXXX
AXXXXX
AXXXXX
BXXXXX
BXXXXX
CXXXXX
CXXXXX
CXXXX
DXXXXX
.
.
.
ZXXXXX
(XXXX are chinese word)
when I want to search TXXXXX(XXXX are chinese word)
I always press "down bottom" ..A B C D E F G H I .......T...
it is stupid to search contact list.
I have try to use number to serach , but I forget contact number.
..
main point:
have any idea to search the initial T in any way?
If I'm understanding you right, all you need to do is either tap the corresponding letter in the alphabet list to the right of your 'All People' screen (this is the standard contacts screen), or bring up a keyboard (by tapping in the 'Enter a name' box), and beginning to type the name you want.
It's as easy as that in the English version... surely can't be that different in the Chinese one??!!

when i place a phone call my normal procedure is:
1: press the green phone button
2: slide the keyboard out
3: begin typing a few letters of the name
4: use the arrow key on the keyboard to scroll down to the persons name <--- this is very important
5: hit return and talk
i am finding that i am unable to use the arrow keys to scroll down to select a contact on the Tilt as opposed to the HTC 6800. remember, i'm already have the kb open at this point and would prefer to just continue using it.
this then requires me to pull out the stylus or try and nail tap the contacts name from the list that appears.
it seems to only way to scroll through is to select Contacts first, start typing a few letters then scroll down and click the name then scroll some damn more and tell the phone to call. this strikes me as gratuitious.
has anyone else experience this annoyance and if so, has anyone found a solution?
i tried replacing the dialer with the touch dialer but it seems to simply skin the same lame functionality.
please advise.
I understand you want to use the kb at this point, but how hard is it to just raise your left thumb up 1.5" and use the D-pad?
I can duplicate the problem, but I've got a similar "OK... But..." comment.
Why use the keyboard? When the phone pops up, start tapping the numbers associated with the letters in the name and it'll intelligently start filtering the list. Then use a finger or the D-pad to select the one you want.

ok - i had never really done that. im just so comfortable typing on the qwerty kb that that has always been the method i have used which worked up until this phone.
only irritant i can find with the dialpad method is there is no space key for first letter first name first letter last name.
i can live with it i guess but its not nearly as bling when yer tapping on the dial pad like every other phone out there instead of using your kick ass slide out keyboard.
the habit may have transfered from my days with a treo where you simply type the name and dial.
very convenient.
guys...
any1 got any idea how come when I'm using the build in QWERTY keyboard, I'm having trouble typing words "near" or "haha" ?
Under options for the input types, I've already untick "Suggest words when entering text" and cleared stored entries.
For example, I can't type the words "near", it will prompt me if I want to add "a" after I've type "ne"
I do not have any problems when using the software based QWERTY keyboard though.
hmm.. dun tell me only my set having this prob?
I would suggest ticking "Suggest words when entering text" because with it unticked you wont get any words suggested!
I have the following settings on my MDA Vario III and it works perfectly:
Suggest after entering A SPACE
Suggest 4 word(s)
Add a space after word AND Enable Auto Correct ar both ticked
With that done you can add a word to the built in dictionary as follows:
1. Type the whole word you want to add e.g. near then type a space
2. Type the word again and it should be in the dictionary now (at which point it will be suggested in the list of words it brings up!)
FYI when I tested it just now my phone didn't suggest near or haha until I had typed them first, now both appear after I type a few letters!
I hope this helps, but please feel free to ask if you have any questions.
Cheers

Great. It is clear now at last how it works. Do you know also how to delet words from this dictionary?
The only way I have found to delete words is as follows BUT bear in mind that it gets rid of ALL the words that you have added:
Start>Settings>Input>Word Completion then click on Clear Stored Entries
Cheers

Thanks.
I have been trying to work out how to clear out suggested words.
Clear suggested entries seemed too straight forward

yes...press Menu->Check Names. OK?
Guys, what you are all refering too is the famous t9 bug. (already in TytnII diamond ROM releases)
Look for "disable t9" cab , run it and use original (not Diamond) keyboard and you'll see ALL names when one or two or more letters are typed.
You will also have word completion / suggestion running than.
it is a workaround as there seems to be no full solution yet to have all names visible with t9 enabled in Diamond KB mode

Press the left or right or down button to see another contact.
I have been searching about this issue and only managed to find this thread. Has this by any chance been solved? It is annoying me to no end. The Left or right button press dows not do it for me!
If I have "Adam Alpha" and "Adam Beta" in my contacts list there seems to be NO WAY to choose Adam Beta except through the add recepients function in the menu. On my old touch, I used to be able to add receipients by simply typing the first few letters of a contact and the list of contact options would show up! This sux so bad now! If I type in the name, there is simply NO way at all to get "Adam Beta"...you can only get Alpha!
Grrrrrr.... Using that cab and the WM keyboard is not a solution for me....I need a thumb capable solution....

Have you tried the check names option in Menu?

Thanks save ferris....I didn't realize that option was available....helps. However, it is still two keypresses longer than before. You have to press menu, and then check names....before, if you just typed in Ada, the names/options would show up to choose from immediately....
It seems to be a step backwards in design to me. I was just wondering if there was some kind of potential registry fix to show more options...
Anyone know if that works? Or do we simply have the on-screen-qwerty-keyboard?
Click on the Keboard button so you get a list of QWERTY etc. Pick other input methods . You will find what you need in here . eg Block Recogniser , transcriber etc
What I'm asking for is:
Can I use the pencil and "draw" letters that then become words like I can on SonyEricsson P1i
Yes, Transcriber and Black/Letter recogniser do just that.
Is that a program you need to install or is it included in the box? I can't get it to work...
What do you mean you can't get it work? Because by asking whether is included or not I suppose you haven't found where it is.
Well, try writing a text message. Click on the small arrow on the bottom of the screen right next to the keyboard icon. It should pop up a window mentioning the different keyboards the diamond has (phone keyboard, compact qwerty, full qwerty etc..) At the bottom of this list there is another arrow pointing right called other input methods. Click on it and then you get a new scroll down list with the options that were mentioned before: transcriber, block recognizer, letter recognizer etc. Choose letter recognizer for example and go back to the screen where you are supposed to type the text message and you will see at the bottom of the screen the area where you are supposed to "draw" the letters.
Furthmore, read the manual...
I think this is quite detailed
CarpeNoctum:
Thank you, thank you, thank you
I will try that once I get back from work and have my Diamond in my hands again

Just a heads up...
The transcriber in the Diamond, isn't as good as the one in the SE P series.
I was a bit disappointed. (I am used to the P series.. )
Another option would be - in HTC Diamond - to use Letter Recogniser.
Yeah, you can't write just anywhere on the screen with that (you have a line at the bottom, where you may DRAW - as you say - your letters and have them displayed..)
Personal view.. Letter Recogniser works better than the transcriber.
All the best
Is it possible to recognize a handritten note later after writing it. I mean i have old notes from an older device with handwritten letters. Is there a way I can make my diamond recognize them as letters ?

True.. Actually the Letter Recognizer works quite well for me.
transcriber works over the whole screen, only the block recogniser has a line to draw under.
Hmm i have neither block recognizer or letter recognizer on my danish 1.37. Is there some reg stuff to do to enable it? (and yes, i have looked the right places, only have the 3 htc keyboards and the standard ms full keyboard)

Same here
It should be simple enough for soemone clever enough to make up a cab file for Transcriber.
For example Bepe has taken it out of his ROM so I suspect could easily repackage it as an optional cab for anyone to use.
Just a thought.
I don't have any recognition neither... I can just type, not draw letters to be recognized
Also missing in my Danish Rom
Also missing in my Dutch rom.

No, you need a program like phatpad to do that.
http://www.phatware.com
Also while you're there, look at Calligrapher 8.6
no luck here either
Also missing on the Swedish 1.37 original rom. These kind of small missing things pisses me off, looking around in the menues for hours with no luck, but I am sure there will be some fix for it somehow.
Any news on this? Also from Sweden here and no transcriber...
hey guys, is it just me or is it normal that when you're typing an sms and select the suggested word in t9, it does NOT add a space, perform spelling or suggest next word. I find it a bit annoying that after selecting the predicted text that I then have to hit the space button again.
I've checked "Add a space after word" and "enable auto correct"
Is anyone else having this problem?
Same thing as you.....
also no t9 with keyboard option...would be good if had.
...and the T9 does not allow a new word to contain a number and letter combo. for example "2moro"
i know i should not be butchering the english language but it sure is handy.
previous winmo devices have allowed me to add number letter combo's so this seems weird
