All,
I got a new MDA and for some reason, it just does NOT work in my house all the time. I move my SIM into Razor, works fine. MDA would only work 50% of the time. It can not find T-Mobile network AT ALL! I would go down the street and it will pick up the signal. They I go back home... it works fine... then it will either lose signal and that would be it until i leave the house or, it will be Ok for a while... Makes NO sense...
Are their upgrades or anthing i can do? This is specific to cell reception only...
Thank you very much!
try updating to the latest imate rom, not saying i will work bit worth a shot
impreves the speed + stability of your phones as well.

Hey... I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this. I went through the same B.S. with T-Mobile. You have to call and complain. It turns out that when the signal is relatively weak **but not weak enough for a RAZR to work** the MDA or SDA (as well as some other HTC devices) can't properly register on the network. When you call, just make sure that you keep escalating this to the highest tier (Tier 3). They are going to try to blame the SIM Card (make sure you have another phone nearby so that they can make sure the SIM is not the issue). They have to issue an engineering trouble ticket. They will eventually get back to you and tell you that they have to add towers/strengthen the signal and that it would be done within 120 days. Just F*&(in incompetent... Let me know how it works (and be dogged... don't let them give you the brush off or send you another device (which will incidentally be a refurbished one not a new one) this is a NETWORK problem).

Hi guys...sorry if this is already answered here, but I just got a supposedly 'unlocked' AT&T Tilt from eBay and put in my Rogers SIM card. It seems to work OK on the data side of things - gleefully accessing the internet and even syncing my email, but I can't get the voice calls to work. Even shows '3G' for the data connection.
Whenever anyone calls me, they get a couple of rings and it goes to my voicemail. If I try to call out, it dials, then immediately ends the call when it tries to connect.
The SIM card is OK I know, since it works in my Eten X500 just fine.
Do I have to do something to the phone to completely remove the AT&T stuff?
Help...I love the phone, but if it won't make voice calls....
Thanks.

I had this same problem on ATT in the US. They kept trying to tell me it was a problem with my phone, although I knew this wasnt the case because I had 2 tilts in a row that did this. I called them and eventually got through to a higer level tech, tier 2 I think. I'm not completely sure what he did but he fixed it. It was a problem on their end.
I was able to use data as well, just no calls. It would drop them as soon as I made them.
Call Rogers, they will probably work it out.
You need to flash your tilt with a different version of radio and it will work.

Thanks... any particular suggestions? I'm thinking of flashing the unit with QMobile 1.2, but I don't think that comes with a radio ROM...I guess I should pick one up from the Upload area?
Thanks again for the help.

I may give that a try, but Rogers doesn't provide support for phones they don't sell. I think I will be SOL once they find out I'm connecting with a 'non-standard' phone.

rogers is really bad when it comes to supporting phones they don't have. You may want to call them and lie, and say you and a TYTN instead of a Tilt, and see if they will try to help.
That being said, I know about 3 guys that have gotten either a TYTN II or a Tilt in the Vancouver area and have popped in their SIM card and everything has worked just fine, including myself. Have you tried flashing a different radio - I am using 1.27.12.17 - perhaps the At&T radios don't work in Canada?...just a thought
here is a link to the radio thread, where you can download the 1.27.12.17 radio...

OK, the radio I currently have is 1.27.12.11. Do I have to HardSPL before I install the new radio? Also, I notice you've SuperCID unlocked as well... do I need to do that also?
Thanks for the link to the radio file.
/drt
Well, I got it to work, but...
The ongoing saga continues....
a) HardSPL'd and Flashed in a new radio 1.27.12.17. No change.
b) Played with the network settings a bit, and could occassionally get the phone to 'downgrade' to an Edge cx, and voila! the phone started working. But AT&T's software doesn't give me the option to 'hold' it there.
c) Talked to Rogers tech support -- pretty helpful really. They asked for the # of my SIM card and said it wasn't a '3G' card (it IS pretty old) and suggested I get a new one from the local guys. Went up, got one for free (since I gave them my old one) and tried it -- No luck, same problem.
d) Flashed QMobile 1.2 ROM -- still getting the at&t screen on initial startup, but everything else seems good and the HTC-ish stuff it's supposed to be.
e) Went to configure the phone band settings. If I leave them on 'Auto', it finds the Rogers 3G network and hooks up, but the same problem arises -- when it finishes dialing and tries to connect, it just ends the calls. And incoming calls go directly to my voicemail. HOWEVER, if I specifically configure it for GSM network and the 1900+850 bands, then it locks onto Edge and the phone works fine.
I guess it's back to tech support with Rogers to see what they have to say about my account, etc.
Very Weird.

Yup...from that thread, the description sounds EXACTLY like the difficulties I'm experiencing. It appears to be a hardware failure... Unfortunately, I bought from a guy on eBay, so I'm not sure I can send it in for repair. It works on Edge though, and that will be good enough for now.
Thanks everyone for the help.

Folks,
(I've searched around a bit and seen some reference to this problem but no definitive discussion. I apologize in advance if I missed anything and humbly request a pointer to the existing info if so.)
Just got a Tilt last weekend. On 3 occasions so far I looked at the screen and noticed that the phone had no signal (triangle with ! next to it). So for several hours each time, no one could call me. Going into comm mgr, the phone radio was still on.
This was in an area with no signal problems; soft reset or pulsing the phone radio in comm mgr would restore functionality with 3-4 bars. I finally nailed this down to having been in an area in the center of the building where I work, where signal gets lost. It appears that my Tilt never automatically recovers from a lost signal.
I saw this problem on the ROMs that came with the device and now it also continues with the new one that was just released by HTC a couple of days ago. In case it matters the phone is unlocked (using jump_spl and the other related tools and procedures found here, thanks).
Do I just have a defective Tilt? I mentioned this to others in my office and a few folks also claim to see this, and like I said I have seen *some* mention of this on the internet... I'd be astounded if this were really a problem endemic to all Tilts -- would people really put up with this?
Anyone have any additional insight?
It used to happen with me when I had the stock AT&T rom. I flashed the stock HTC rom and I don't recall ever having that problem, and now I've flashed SNE v2.5 and I don't have that problem.
My suggestion is to flash a new rom and see if that helps, and to make sure you're using a correct radio.
where do I get official htc radio and rom downloads?
hi folks,
where can i get official HTC radio and ROM downloads? I have an HTC TYTN II (acquired in Hong Kong) with ROM 1.56.721.3, Radio 1.27.12.11 & Protocol 22.45.88.07H just last month and already I'm encountering problems with the phone just losing the signal and staying lost and I'm considering upgrading however since my phone is brand new (practically), i want an "official" upgrade so as not to void the warranty. any help would be appreciated.
thanks and best regards...
I'll have to decide whether I have the cohones to flash an HTC ROM. Might at least be worth a try.
try this, go into comm manager, than settings for the phone (right soft key), than over to the Band tab, if I select the network type as GSM and leave the band on auto mine will contstantly serch for signal. i know this because my office is as close to a bomb shelter as they come and it never stops searching.
another good to this is battery life is improved
the BAD, if you want to use 3G you have to turn network back to auto and band to auto. not really a big deal cuz i dont have 3G here (yet).
a little workaround that works for me.
Thanks for that... I am running an AT&T ROM and even though I've supposedly turned on the Band tab in phone settings via KaiserTweak, I do not see a band tab. Should I?
I have almost this same exact problem! As of two weeks ago, my tilt started not allowing me to make calls
I then realized that it was also sending all my calls to voice mail. Thing is, the phone says that I have signal and has the Edge connection sign at the top. Whenever I try to make a call, the phone says "operation cannot be completed" or it will simply beep at me as if the call ended, right after it started.
A soft reset allows this to work. I've had this problem even happen right after hanging up with someone, and then trying to redial another number 5 seconds later. I doubt the phone really lost the signal.
Any ideas?
Hello
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=367355
Thanks
I had the same problem with my O2 XDA Stellar, it was fine for a couple of months, then I could hardly call out on it, email wouldn't send, could rarely go online etc etc. It seemed to be better on GSM/GPRS than 3G, HSDPA etc. I assumed it was a harware problem & as it was under warranty I got a replacement from O2 & it's been fine so far.
AT&T replaced the SIM card in my phone and I believe this has fixed the problem. I have lost signal many times (elevators, garages, etc) and it recovers each time.
Sometimes people call me and get a message saying my phone is off or out of service. But when I look at it, it often shows 4 bars of service..
When I call someone, the problem disappears temporarily, and I start receiving calls again (and I receive all the SMS's I was supposed to get at once), only to appear again later for no reason (a soft reset also solves it). It's not related to location, it also happens when I spend the day at home (where I get a strong signal).
I don't think it's a operator problem either, since my operator is known for it's good services, and other people who use "normal" phones never had such a problem.
I tried 3 different ROMs (dutty's hybrid, Hyperdragon and AthineOS) and 3 different radios (dutty's radio (1.65 something), hyperdragon's (1.70 something), and eMo radio). Right now I'm using AthineOS with hyperdragon III's radio, and almost no programs installed..
This problem happens both in 3G and EDGE mode.
Anything I can do about it?
Send it in for repair?
Seems you tried all you could...
Don't think I can send it for repair, since it's an AT&T Tilt and I'm not even in the US..
Guess I'm outta luck then
Anyone else have any ideas?
have you tried the sim in another handset, sounds like a network problem to me.
3G Network
Are you using 3G Network?
Sometime I use 3G band and even It show good signal I loose phone calls.
I changed to GSM and no phone calls loose.
This happens in São Paulo/Brazil but...
EDIT: Sorry. Now I saw that you reported this problem also using GSM band.
Thanks.
I am not sure if you're using your US SIM card in a foreign country?
Maybe you just forgot to enable INTERNATIONAL ROAMING before you left ... ?
I'm having the same problem
I seem to have started with the same problem about a week ago. A couple people complained that they called me but it rang twice and went to voicemail - My phone never rang. However, after I made a call (or apparently did something to "wakeup" the phone), I would get the voicemail notification (2 hours later).
I tried reseating the SIM card, but then it went to "SIM Card Missing". I did a hard reset, but that didn't help. I took it back to AT&T and they replaced the SIM Card. That seemed to work again, and certainly would have been a convenient fix (bad SIM card - too easy). So I've just spent all weekend reloading all the apps, but now it's happening again!!
The symptoms are; After I reboot the device, I can receive one or two calls, then it doesn't ring anymore (the caller hears 2 rings then it goes to voicemail). If I cycle the Phone radio button in the Comm Manager, or cycle power, it comes back to life for 1 call, then craps out again.
I'm just using the standard AT&T ROM (without the Bloatware after this past reset) and the standard/default radio version 1.27.12.11
The only thing that I have noticed that seems different lately is that the "Comm Manager" task is always running when I look at the running programs (which I don't think it used to) I had also recently installed Garmin XT.
The device is of course 1 yr + 2 weeks (so I assume just out of warranty)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Hmmm,
what I would try, is, to just make a hard reset, load only my contacts to the phone and run it for a while to monitor its "Incalling" behavior. If everything seems to be fine, I would go ahead and start installing an application, then monitor my device again for a while, if everything is fine I will go ahead install the next application ... and so on. That is just to make sure that no 3rd party application causes this problems.
BTW:
I don't think that GARMIN causes this problem. I used to run Garmin on my HTC too (v5.0) until I came accross SYGIC McGuider (which works much better and card scrolling is much smoother than Garmin).
Well,
to come back to the point: if you get the same problems without loading any 3rd party application on your device, then I would recommend trying another ROM (best advice: go with the HTC stock ROM). If it also happens with the other ROM then it might be hardware related and difficult to fix.
Thanks - I knew that's what I should do, I just didn't want to do it after having spent all weekend reloading and configuring it. I thought I had read somewhere about Garmin having to have the phone radio on to work, so I was hoping there was a setting somewhere that I was missing that was powering the radio down. But..... I suppose it's time to go back to common sense and just do the reset
So far it seems to be working now. I'll give it a few days with just the basics and then start reloading one at a time.
Thanks for the quick response!
Spoke too soon
looks like I spoke too soon, it's doing it again - seems like it was fine for about 3 hours, but now .....
guess it's time to try my luck with AT&T - time to see how good their customer service is

no, I was just using the default browser.
I've got nothing installed on it at this point so I'm guessing it's hardware related.
Over the last couple months I had been experiencing some strange battery drainage (not related to the GPS issues). I don't know if that was a symptom or not. It just seems like the radio is going to sleep somehow - it wakes up for a little while if I sync my email, cycle the radio via comm manager, or cycle the power.
Anyone know if there is a setting somewhere that controls that? (sure would be nice if it were that simple)
The AT&T store was basically useless, all they did was give me the phone number for the warranty department (but since I'm 2 weeks past warranty, he doesn't think they'll help me), and of course offer to upgrade me to the Fuze for $375 - no thanks!
I've had the same issue (I think). I too think that it seems to happen when I have a 3G data connection active and moving back to GPRS (non 3G) seems to make it better....
I'm on a standard UK ROM and using BTMobile as a provider.
I was driving down the motorway the other day and overtook a friend. He rang me and went straight to voicemail. I then got a text to say that I had a voicemail and rang him back.
I was running TomTom Traffic at the time so would have had a data session enabled....
I think its something to do with the data session sometimes not letting a call through but can't put my finger on anything and certainly can't find an option to change any settings...
Also, even at home, I'm constantly picking up my phone to see that it "has no signal" and the exclamation mark is displayed - so calls aren't coming through - but it then connects and shows a three-bar strength signal. Don't understand why it keeps dropping out, but I get a 3G connection at the front of my house and an ordinary G connection at the back and I think that it sometimes to stay connected to the 3G connection for data even when the phone signal is very poor and it would be better dropping that and connecting at "old" GPRS speed...
Same on the train on the west coast main line out of London. I think having the 3G turned on causes the phone signal to drop out completely more than when 3G is turned off, as the phone tries to hang on to the signal of a 3G cell and doesn't successfully switch over to the next "non 3G" cell whilst in a call.
have you tried a new radio such as NIKI's?
well, AT&T warranty was even less than useless. Home phone, Internet, and Wireless all through AT&T and the best they can do is "see if they could get me a deal on a new phone" or refer me to HTC technical support. Nice customer service AT&T!!!
HTC technical support was actually trying to be helpful, once she found out I already did a hard reset, she referred me to their warranty group. They looked up the S/N and it's still under their warranty (I guess theirs is 15 months after manufacture date). Now the only problem is I have to send it in to them to see if it's covered under warranty, and of course be willing to go without my phone for 2 weeks (and pay them a yet to be determined amount if they decide it's not under warranty).
I'd like to try a different radio, but looks like there's too much for me to read up on - I need to get the device fixed, I've already lost too much time with it being messed up and me screwing with it.
Update
so this morning I was ready to throw in the towel and send the device back to HTC. At least they were willing to help me out, unlike AT&T.
I get to work, and of course the phone seems to be working (which isn't unusual, it works for a little while then craps out). Come lunch time, it's still working (now this is unusual, it must be a fluke, I'll give a couple more hours before I package it up). 4:00 and it's still working! Now I'm starting to wonder if it's got to do with the cell towers near my house (and the AT&T store since it did it for them too).
I email my buddy who lives about 1/2 mile away and also has a Tilt just to see if he's had any similar problems. He calls me back laughing. There's 5 People in his office with the exact same problem (and not all Tilts either).
So to make a short story long....... it appears to be a problem with AT&T, NOT the device (but Thank You very much AT&T for the incredible customer care you demonstrated and for trying to screw me into buying new devices for outrageous prices)
So at this point, I'm not sure if it's that AT&T has fixed the issue across the board, or if it was the "Resync the routing" that the online chat person tried last night that finally propagated across the network (I assume so that AT&T can find my phone in order to route the calls to me).
I guess we'll see if it does the same thing when I get back closer to home tonight, but I'm relieved that it appears to be fixed.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions! Now I have a little more time to read about how I can screw up my phone on my own schedule - all the practice of resetting it and reinstalling everything, and seeing how much faster it is has inspired me

I didn't tried asking AT&T for a new sim card. but I will call them to change the sim card. Does anybody know how to disable the 3G function?
Just a "me too..."
Hello everyone. I just wanted to report that I'm having the same issues...they started about a week or so ago.
I've had my AT&T Tilt for about 8 months now (it's a warranty replacement for my first tilt, bought in July...so of course, I'm out of warranty). I recently had problems receiving calls, and then I started being unable to make calls, even though my phone shows a decent signal...anywhere from 4 bars to 2 bars. When dialing, it'll say "Dialing..." for a few seconds...and then it clicks off. A soft reset will fix things temporarily, but that's it.
I'm running the stock AT&T ROM (I'll check the version number if someone thinks it'll help), and I've tried doing a hard reset AND replacing the SIM card. Same effect.
Someone please let me know if they resolved this problem. AT&T offered me an HTC Fuze...but I'm extremely wary of other phones by this manufacturer. I'm very, VERY tired of phones crapping out on me after having just spend a couple of hundred bucks on them. At this point, I'm just looking for something reliable. If someone else here has had problems with the Fuze, please let me know...not to start any fights around here, but I'm actually thinking about going with the iPhone.
Thanks.
Has anyone seen an announcement or maybe hear a rumor about an update for the radio.
I've read a few threads describing my problem with the lousy reception so figuring I'm not alone in this I wrote to HTC but they have yet to answer after almost 2 weeks.
It's not the phone reception cause talking to someone is no problem but trying to get an update using GPRS because the damn H wont work (should work cause it does so on other phones at same location) is agonizingly zzzzzzzzzzslow.
Worse than that is the fact that T-Mobile uses some kind of SSL downloads that you can't even get with GPRS because the connection is simply too slow to answer the securitycodes sent back and forth
I m also having issues... Connection dropping... Hard time to get it to work after reboot or after using wifi... etc...
I start wondering if it could be just the radio rom version...
On the south east asia, they have a rom update which include a newer radio version: 3.44.25.27
Where mine is: 3.43.25.19
I'm wondering if there is way to upgrade the radio and if this would solve the problem....
Well, my problem is not so much with my connection being dropped but more with the device not being able to switch to HSDPA eventhough the signal is strong enough for other phones.
I've not yet had a connection drop when talking to someone....
Mmmm. I've just emailed HTC Europe about a similar problem with my TD2.
I'm on Vodafine UK, and the strandard reception in my home is virtually non-existant, even though the area is supposed to be good quality for standard voice/sms. It' a case of hanging out of the window if I need to make a call!
The same sim card in my HTC S730 gives me two bars of reception anywhere in the house, so perhaps the VUK signal isn't the strongest (certainly not as good as my T-mobile signal) but the fat that the S730 has no real problems with the signal leads me to believe there is a real issue with the radio (version 3.43.25.19) on the TD2.
It's pretty disappointing really. I'm finding that I'm having to switch sims when I'm at home.
Neil
I'm on T-Mobile dutch and according to the T-mobile support center my HSDPA signal should be near-perfect even inside. Instead all I get is GPRS and the only time I get to see the H is when I'm standing on the roof of the annex outside and even than it's only one bar reception.
I hope you get an answer from them as I've been waiting for 2 weeks now and not a word...
Maybe if a lot of people subscribing to different operators complain things will be set in motion for an upgrade.
I have the sneaky suspicion that to save battery (people complained about this with the diamond1) they've somehow lessened the strength of the radio...
HTC Europe = Plonkers
Hi All,
I've contacted HTC Europe twice about the Radio. They advised that only two people have complained, me being one and that this doesn't constitute a known problem. We need as many people as possible to mail them advising that the radio sucks!
Well, I suppose that I'm that second person than. I'm going to mail them again and create a few zillion yahoo mailboxes and mail them from all of those too...
You never know, it just might work
Radio sucks
I agree, the radio in Topaz sucks. It is even worse than those in Diamond1. It's very annoying.
I've the same problem, also T-Mobile in the Netherlands. So what did I do? I searched the tower where they send from, I found it and when I was at 20 meters distance (couldn't get any closer) HSDPA was around 2 bars. When I tried to surf on the internet it went back to GPRS, really bad in my opinion...
What I did notice is, that if you have 4 bars (or 5) GPRS and it gets one more, it has 1 bar HSDPA.
It's strange as I have no problem at all with the radio reception, I am always on HDSPA, even when It drops to 1 bar It still works great. I can stream videos via skyfire no problem.
I'm on T-Mobile and according to their website I am not in a HDSPA area - just out of range.

Funny...I'm the exact opposite!
T-Mobile's website say I should have excellent 3G coverage at my home adderss...but I sruggle to get 1bar..and my TD2 is allways swapping from GSM to HSDPA
At work the webite say's no 3G but excellent GSM....in my office I have found 1 spot with a very weak signal....If I answer an incoming call I loose that.
I have only been with T-Mobile for a couple of month's.....Never had this trouble with Orange.
Trouble is, I don't know who's at fault....T-Mobile or TD2......
Got a reply from HTC.
"This is not a known issue. Therefore there may not be a planned hotfix for this. This being the case i would advise trying to perform a hard reset of your handset."
Sounds a lot like the stock answer from HTC to every issue they've ever had on every handset they've ever made!
I've replied redirecting them to this forum questioning the newer radio version on the Asian ROM.
Neil
It is a known issue, I've reported it to them a couple of times. The radio from the Asian ROM doesnt make much difference anyway
htc support
Following the stock reply from htc about the poor radio (soft reset, hard reset, wipe sim) I wrote back:
Thanks for the advice. I have tried all you suggested but the reception on my Diamont 2 remains poor. I did a dirct comparison at my work place (this is where I am having my biggest problems), between the Diamond2 and an old Sony Erriccson K510i.
With my T-mobile sim inserted in the D2 I got between no signal and 1-2 bars. With the K510i I had 3-4 bars.
With an Orange sim I got 2-3 bars on the D2 while I had full signal with the OLD Sony Erriccson phone.
I think the Diamond2 is an excellent device, but I feel let down by It's poor radio performance.
Can you tell me if this problem is being looked into by your tech's?
As stated else where on this forum if enough people take the time to complain to htc they may do somthing other than deny there is a problem.
The squeeky wheel gets the oil, as they say
Would it help if I took a FEW phones all on the same network and compared signal?
I too have really bad reception but have access to many devices including the Touch HD, Vario, Tytn2, various SE phones (c902, c905), Various nokias (N95, N96, 6500) and a few LG phones.
I am on the O2 network, and have enough simcards to fill all the phones up at the same time so I can do a comparison on signal tha way.
The best one will be the difference from the HTC devices but I can then draw up conclusions here and also with HTC.
It would be great if you could try the same simcard in a few different sets. This would give us a really good idea of how the TD2-radio really performs...
I got my reply from HTC yesterday and it was indeed a simple and standard (meaningless) answer.
They actually thought that no HSDPA and 3 bars GPRS was not so bad a connection
Thanks for your offer and awaiting the results......
hello all
i ve made a lot of radio test here with this d2
it is really poor in sensitivity
the gsm antena is located in the back but in the lower part of the device so when you take it in your hand there is a great attenuation of the received signal.
i ve made a lot of description and test about this known probleme on the french forum.
you can test the sensitivity with field test and you ll see the reception is always around -100 db when other device are -75 db (beter)
active the test with *#*#364#*#* code on your diamond2
Where in the program can I enter the code you gave ???
just enter this number in the phone

Click to collapse
I entered this code as a phone number and hit send...........
All I got was the automated message "Calls to this number are not being connected"
Any idea why?
