is there a difference between opera mobile and opera mini browser? is it worth the extra money to buy opera mobile instead of using the free opera mini?
Opera mini is a java app, though it is pretty good, I would say even better than opera mobile. But, it might have problem running on some devices depending on which java client the device uses.
would opera mini be just as good as opera mobile on my kaiser?
i recommend opera mobile since it installs as a program which can also be set as your default browser. Opera mini is a java app which is not added as a default browser and you have to load the java app to get to it.
if i was to buy the current opera mobile version, and opera 9 comes out, would i have to buy opera 9 as well, or would opera allow me to upgrade for free?
Opera 8.65 has been "finally" released few days ago.
However, it has few problems with license/registration if you check their website.
As for Opera 9, I am not sure if it will be released this year (or ever be released!).
Opera Mobile 9 = Duke Nukem Forever
I use Opera Mini 4 beta 2 and I must say: best browser ever. Sure, it's a bit anoying that you have to launch the Java app first, but you quickly forget about it when you work with the browser. Perfect experience I must say.
Maarten,
Which midlet manager do you use? JBed?
Can you download files using Opera Mini? I often download .3GP files from the internet
How is the performance when browsing a large site? I found PIE sucks in this area, often stuck and I have to soft-reset.

Much better than PIE.
I alo recommend that you ALL follow the General forum ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=256 ) in here as I've answered all the questions asked in this thread there in my Opera Mini 4 beta 2 review ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=326368&highlight=Opera+Mini ) and WM Web Browser Bible ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=301009 ).
Last time I used Opera mini I couldn't make a backup of or restore my bookmarks. That's really annoying, when you want to restore a backup or install a new ROM. The pro is that is reduces the internet traffic. Opera mobile is much better when internet traffic is not important.
If I have Pixelbrowser - would adding Opera Mini be redundant ?
Would you just add Opera Mobile for better default support ?
I just installed Opera Mini, and ... it works fine! fast! and nice!
I also created a shortcut and hack the security warning according to this info:
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-...ed-includes-info-new-java-midlet-manager.html
Then I changed the "IE button" to load Opera Mini
I like it so much
But there are several things I dont like:
1. When I download .3GP from a link, it will be picked up by Internet Explorer Why cant Opera handle that? I mean asking to download and save ...
2. The browsing History is displayed in the Startup Screen! Can this be disabled?
Anyone know how to fix them?

How!!!???? Please tell!!! I have it loading my midlet manager - but I don't know how to do this.
------------
FYI To do it create a shortcut in notepad on your PC and copy it over to your Start Menu with :
28#"\windows\jbed.exe" -run s0_
where s*_ is the number in the menu where opera is... brilliant!
I've been looking for a broswer that acts like Safari (you see the whole page, and then click to zoom in, etc....) Opera Mini does this, but I can't download files from it, and I always have to start java, etc.....Mobile doesn't seem to do the same thing (whole page, like Safari).....are there any browser that will duplicate what Safari/Opera Mini do, and still allow downloading, etc....??? Or does Opera Mobile have that hidden away in it's settings somewhere? I'm not really looking for favorites or opinions, just the function of opening a full page on my screen, then clicking to zoom in to a part.....
thanks in advance!

Theres a lot of Opera Mini stuff in the link in my sig, I've not read it all, but the mod who wrote it is an expert on Opera Mini and Java.
EDIT:
BTW you can now download files in Opera mini 4.1 beta
Download and upload files
On phones with JSR-75, you can now upload and download files using Opera Mini 4.1 beta, without being re-routed to your phone’s native browser. Update your blog while on the go. Upload photos to your web site or social network. Add attachments easily to web-based email, and download other non media-rich content to your phone using Opera Mini 4.1 beta.

what java emulator are u using dude?
the java us something called cloudy (something like that)
Normally I use Cloudyfa_EsmertecJbed (Cab in the Opera Mini Link).
At the Moment Sleuth's ROM has it cooked in version:
Esmertec Jbed Build ID: 20070726.1.1
Thanks
Dave
Opera mini is a super fast browser but some of it's functionality is scaled down. In general, you should be able to download from mini... but not as robust as others.
IMO Opera 9.5 (official version not released yet) is very promising. It has a very good download manager, browses similar to Opera Mini and is much more robust in terms of overall browser functionality, certificates, etc. It's worth a look. It's beta is all over this board if you do a search.
Hi all, i've downloaded Opera Mini because i find its quicker than full opera for checking ebay/quick google search etc. Its a java app but i can't seem to install it and keep it installed?
ie. i click on opera mini in file explorer and it installs it and runs but next time i want opera mini i have to do the same thing allover again.
I'm guessing i'm stupid and doing something wrong.

Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=493810
i searched some threads but havent found anything.
does somebody know how to do it?
want to sync for example the push pages on tf3d that they will open with opera mini...
Ive often wondered if this is possible. I always assumed it wasnt as its a program within a program ie, you open the java program the you open opera mini. I remember seeing some code somewhere once so you can just click on one icon and it opens up both java then opera in one fell swoop. Im just about to go to work so i dont have time to search for it...

yes, totally both 4.2 and 5.0 beta which im loving it more than opera 8.65 and 9.7
I'm afraid it is not possible.
alright, would have been nice, but its not a big thing.
i'll start it the old fashioned way with the icon in the programs-tab.
wooooooowww, opera mini 5 is the god browser, when it got finished and take back the download manager(`cause every time you try a download it redirect you to i.e) it will be perfect, loving it, much more than i.e and opera...
i wish setting opera mini as defaut is really possible...
