Diamond internet trouble on AT&T - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hey guys I need a little help I just got a new diamond and it is working great. So far I am in the process of HardSPL and then will install radio .05 however my question is that it will connect to at&t fine with phone service but when I try to open internet or download weather data it says there was a connection error. Can anyone tell me how to set up this internet I will do HardSPL tonight and put on the new radio and see if that does anything. Thanks

I had trouble with data on the .03 radio as well, but have had no troubles at all with the .05 radio. Also, go to Settings/Phone and set Network type to GSM, and Band to 850+1900. That seems to help with battery life (since the Auto settings cause it to constantly search for the best option), and it might have also had something to do with getting data to work, but I'm not sure because I updated my radio to 05 at the same time.

Hey thanks that seemed to work as now I have data access I did think it would make much difference switching radios but it does thanks a bunch.

hey one more question have you figured out how to use weather in the USA as the internet works but when I hit update weather it shows in the status bar updating then comes up with an error message saying "connection error" any idea?

Problems with GPRS, wont connect. Many ROM's and Radios

My Location: Fort Worth, TX
My Provider: ATT
I've got this problem among several ROM's and Radio's that I get from time to time. I'd like to know how to fix it. Then once in a while I'll flash a new ROM/Radio combo and it works fine. Here's the story:
I can open up and browse the net fine with Pocket IE. It shows connected as MediaNET (HSDPA). Internet is fast and reliable.
However, with just about any other application it fails. E-Mail, QUICKGPS UPDATE, etc. I have the [H] icon.
Here's what happens if I open up "QuickGPS" and click download:
I get the [3G] icon.
* Click download
* Bubble that says: Connecting to My ISP, GPRS.... opens.
* Bubble above disappears. Bubble re-appears with identical info.
* Bubble says:
Dialed:
Could not connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change tem if needed, tap settings. If the problem continues, reset your device according to the manufacturers documentation and try again.
I've done the following to troubleshoot:
* Ensured GPRS auth is set to CHAP.
* Under connections setting my only connection is Media NET. It is a:
** Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
** Access point name: wap.cingular
** Username: [email protected]
** Password: is unknown. Censored. Probably CINGULAR1
I have tried adding a new cingular connection.
* Without a user/pass/domain.
It simply says Connecting to My ISP, GPRS.... but nothing happens. TCP requests seem to time out.
Any ideas? I'd much rather connect with HSDPA instead of GPRS anyways if it's possible.
I'm thinking it's a ROM/RADIO mismatch.
I flashed back to a ATT ROM with an included radio, and it works fine.
I was having problems with L26 ROM. Anyone have a link to a suggested radio for US with this ROM?
Here's a ROM with problems:
l26 rom
WWE 3.02.405.0
RADIO 1.64.06.04
Any ideas?

I can confirm similar difficulties with many ROM/Radio combinations. One difference for me, though: it's VERY rare for me to get the HSDPA icon anymore. I can get EDGE via most radios, but establishing a GPRS connection in general is also difficult. Often I'll get data working, only to find that the phone connection no longer works!
I've tried using PAP and CHAP, many different radios, many different ROMs, isp.cingular, wap.cingular, entering settings as MEdia Net, entering them as My ISP. Turning proxies on and off has no effect.
There was a ROM I used here ages ago (seems that way, anyway) that gave me excellent HSDPA coverage. I'm still trying to find it in the forums so I can flash back to it.
I'm using an AT&T Tilt in San Francisco. Is there anyone else here in my neck of the woods who's getting HSDPA?
If so, please post your settings! wap? isp? chap? pap? radio version? ROM version?
Thank you!

Yes: When it does work, the EDGE connection I establish will work with any app. However, it may take a while for any signal to be found. Should I be limiting my BAND settings, or allowing it to run on Auto/Auto?

I should add that I've now tried:
Ruu_Signed_Duttys_WM6.1_5.2.19700_Hybrid_V2_1_65.14.06_CubeV2_
Ruu_Signed_Duttys_WM6.1_5.2.19700_Hybrid_V2_1_65.14.06_No_CubeV2_
Using radio 1.65.14.06 here in San Francisco I get only EDGE, with a little triangle that I assume indicates that it's roaming. Roaming here, where I used to get very fast HSDPA? What on earth is wrong with my poor Tilt?
Ditto for 1.64.08.21 with Dutty's ROM above. Though with that radio I used to get better performance (i.e. no roaming) from another ROM.
Side question: I continue to see TNT's logo when I restart my Tilt, despite re-flashing both the radio and the ROM several times. The radio version changes, but the TNT logo sticks around. I've also done a hard reset after flashing these ROMs. Any help?
Just a silly idea...
I had the same problem. The login (username and password) was wrong. in fact, the password from the modem account...

Not a bad idea at all. However, I've tried lots of combinations and I don't think the password is the issue.
I found the ROM I used a while back that used to give me lightning-quick connections: XDA Live 1.2. I re-flashed to that one (along with the 1.27.14.09 radio it came with). It immediately gets full bars of 3G (the "H" icon is still disabled in the registry, I believe), but I'm unable to (1) get anything other than EDGE to connect to GPRS and (2) unable to place/receive any calls while it's on 3G mode. If the signal gets weak enough to drop to E, I can make/receive calls.
This is worrisome because that ROM/Radio combination used to work great for me. Is it possible that something on my account was altered at some point, preventing me from accessing proper 3G? Even if that were the case, why would that prevent my voice calls from going through?

Interestingly enough, AT&T's support site recommends using NO username/password, and enabling IP Header Compression.
When I try this, it works on some occasions, but most often I get:
Dialed: wap.cingular
The answering modem has disconnected.
I too am having a similar problem. I updated to Dutty's and Laurentius's new roms and have been having the same problems.
under connection settings for selected networks chane from my isp to media net.
also some roms don't have att connection settings built in so u might have to install them using a cab.

Internet Sharing problem

So I connect to internet on PC via Kaisers USB which connects to HSDPa.
Problem is that HSDPa connection disconnects aprox. every 8-10mins.
I dont know why, on my Wizard everything works fine.
Where is the problem?
Thanks.
BUMP
So, im using kaisers internet connection on mine PC (internet sharing, usb) and every 10minutes connection drops.
Where is the problem?
Thanks.
Please provide some additional information. Such as: Carrier, ROM version, and Radio version.
I frequently tether for several hours at a time and do not have an issue with disconnects, so there is probably a settings issue that will not come to life until we know a little more about your situation.

Carrier name is "VIP" , location: Europe(Croatia)
ROM: WM 6.1(nothrills)
r 1.65.14.06
g 25.81.40.02H
d 3.14.00.00
I had the same network setup on HTC Wizard and everything worked just fine...
Have you tried any other ROMs or radios? I was able to tether using the NoThrills ROM back when I was running it.
You can also try reflashing the same ROM and radio again in order to eliminate any possible problems stemming from a "bad flash".
Do you have the kaiser tweak installed?
No i didnt try any other ROM or radio..
Everything works fine on that ROM and radio ,only internet sharing is a problem..
And yes i have installed KaiserTweak.
Do you have it set to disconnect your internet?
No i didnt set to automatic dissconnection...
Maybe try another tilt or reset the phone????
huh...i've finally setup everything on this ROM and everything works very nice...so i dont want to flash another ROM (of course if this is only solution, i will..)
strange how nobody had this problem..
NoThrills is a WM6.1 ROM, and your phone would have shipped with a 6.0 based ROM since 6.1 isn't out yet. Did you have this problem prior to flashing to NoThrills?
Well i didnt try on 6.0 original rom...
I've flashed it same day i've got it..
Think i will flash some other ROM..
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
When you say that HSDPA disconnects are you sure it's disconnecting or just downgrading to idle. On my Kaiser I see that when the connection needs to pull data from the net, the icon changes to H (HSDPA) and when idle it changes to just 3G but remains connected. I can see that it remains connected because the signal icon has the 3G logo on top of it.
Cheers!
Rayan
I noticed too that when connection is idle stands 3G icon and when downloading there is H.
But yes, it just disconnects..
When I'm using connection on Kaiser(not internet sharing), it doesn't disconnects..

Need connection setup for S730

Please help me the connection setup cab, because my S730 cannot setup my network.
Need more information, do you want the cab for the initial connection setup wizard thing?
What type of network are you trying to connect to? WiFi? Phone's network?
If its your home wifi then make sure you have the wep correctly typed in, or is it the other encryption? and you might need to tweek the power options for the wifi so it wont nerf it...
Expand your question and give us as much info as to the problem, might not need to reinstall anything, could but might not need to.
I hv some problem with phone network, during i setup phone network then appear for error in the database. Pls help me for solution.
Phone network is going to be a hard one for us to trouble shoot since we dont work for the phone company, easiest way to try and get it working would be to go into a store and have an employee take a peak at it, however if you orderd it over the internet they might not be able to help you unless they support the device. Going through HTC could take a while.
Now what exactly does the error say? Just "Database error"? Or does it give a refrence code like a windows BSOD will give you a stop code?
To start with I would make sure your SIM looks okay as it could be having issues reading the network info off of it, next take a look in your phone settings, Start>(Option 8) Settings>Phone, theres several in there to look at but mostly go to the next page and into Networks, is your even listed? What options do you have under find a new network?
If you go back into phone under Band Select what is it set to?
If you go back into the main options menu what is under Regional Settings?
And, do you have a signal where your at?
Thanks for your explanation, i only have a problem with appear "error in the database" therefore i can't using GPRS or 3G network for HSDPA etc. I need some setting to run my GPRS or 3G network, because previous HP i'm using i have no problem with above matter.
Did you change anything in the menu's I listed above? It sounds like your saying the issue is only with the network as it applies to data and not voice (phone calls).
Go into your GPRS settings section and let us know what it says in there, did you go into a store and pick up the phone or just order it online? Was your old HP fully 3g / hsdpa ready? Did you change anything on your account that might be killing it on your phone?
Need to know what your settings are before going after it being a phone problem internally, setting, or something up with the network interaction. What are you trying to access? Sending an SMS / MMS or something with the browser or another application trying to use the internet?
Error in the DB sounds almost like its getting a connection but cannot locate your information?
If your browsing something online and get that its usually a browser error in which you can delete your history / cookies or reinstall it or its a website error and its no longer connecting to the DB properly etc.
Do you see an E or 3G on the top of your phone (by the battery Status) at any time?
I never change anything in my S730. I only try to setup my connection wizard in S730 but failed (It called error in the database)
Before i'm using S730, all the network likes video call, HSDPA, GPRS is running well but when i'm using S730 all the above network can't be running well. I only can use for phone and SMS.
Yes Error in the DB is almost like its when getting a connection setup but i never successful to find location the network. Do you have a cab to run the connection setup like HTC Tytn II?
I cannot browsing anything when the connection setup can't be done.
I see in my S730 the icon E or 3G on the top of my phone but cannot running well due to connection setup can't be done.
Hmm, I will see what more I can do when I am at home later tonight. Most of the connection settings will be network specific and read off of your phone, to use 3g and Edge you shouldnt have to set anything up. I just put in my new SIM card, turned the phone on and away I went. The only setting up I had to do was for the Wifi.
Since your phone is recognizing the networks I dont think its an issue with that aspect of the phone, something in the drivers could be causing issues with how it interacts with the network. Could be the sim having corrupt information and a few other things.
Who is your provider?
Many thanks for your assistance. I'm using provider INDOSAT in Indonesia.
I have not seen any other similar errors for INDOSAT on google (didnt dig too deep however).
For giggles go into your start menu and select more until you see the connection setup wizard (earth with a magic wand on it) and see what that does for you.
Does the phone stay in E or 3g mode or cycle between the two at random while your at home? How is the coverage in your area? I dont have 3g available here but every now and then my phone will slip into 3g mode and while its trying to connect for those 10 seconds the handset lags a little but always reverts back to edge and resumes normal life.
If you still have your old handset can you pop your sim in it still have have everything run perfectly? (Assuming you reset the device so the settings are back to stock).
For now my best advice (I am no expert like some of the people here...)
Go into the settings menu, make sure your GPRS settings are as correct as they can be (contact your provider to verify the info the phone is telling you) From the main settings several pages into it is a GPRS Auth... place verify that is set correctly as well.
If you bought this handset brand new you really should be able to just pop in your sim and fly away, MMS requires some setup but the rest is plug and play pretty much. Have you tried a reset of the device in hopes that it flushes out a possible bug and allows your settings to take over?
Thanks for your help, now my S730 is running well for video call and over GPRS.

HSDPA Idle Problem on o2-de

Hello,
i have a strange prob. on my o2 xda Diamond...(on o2-de)
When i start a Data 3G Data Session the Diamond will switch to HSDPA when Data is transfered..... works gerat.... but when the Data transfer is Idle the Diamond switches Back to 3G (this is how it should be....configured by the Network Operator) BUT then when Data is transferred again the Diamond switches to HSDPA for a short while and nothing happens.... the connection seems stuck.....
Somtimes the Data begins to flow after some Minutes, sometimes I have to dis/reconnect manually.
After a manual reconnect the Connection works immideately....but then.... the Problem appears again..
Is there anyone who encountered the same Prob?
P.S.: Yes, i did a HardReset and triple checked all Connection entries...
Same for me on the o2 branded original german rom. But now I'm flashing the DiamondProjectTeam-ROM.
Maybe the bug were fixed in the course of time.
Phew.... so I´m not alone with this Problem...
Im not quite shure if this problem was there a week ago.....
Even if i Update the Wheather Widget two times in a short interval (after fallback to 3G) the connection is stuck....
As far as I remeber this wasn´t the case a week ago after i got the Diamond.
Pleas Report if the cooked ROM behaves different...
Regards, Jan
Yes jkb770 ...
let me set up the settings on the new ROM. After that I will edit this post and report ...
.Edit.
Hey guys, sry for the delay ... But I was very busy.
After flashing to DiamProj V1 I determined no difference
But I was very surprised when I surf with PIE. There was no problem to be idle for a while. PIE connected immediately to the requested page; without reconnecting. Maybe is a opera problem? I tried it with the newest version of opera (9.5.1522), no success.
Great!
Thanks in advance...
...im just installing the unsingned HARDSPL......
German
Hmmmm it seems to be no WWE ROM
No German UI
And i still have the HSDPA Idle Prob...
..Nah.... worth a try
As far as I know this is normal behavior. If there is no data transfered the "3G" symbol is shown as indicator and as soon as there is data transfer the "H" symbol will be displayed in case HSDPA is available.
I can remember I also read this somewhere in the manual of my TyTN.
This is also no disadvantage because transferring no data with HSDPA or UMTS will take exactly the same time.
Read...
The Problem is that after the idle (fallback to 3G) the Connection freezes....
Means..... after every fallback from HS to 3G no Data will ever flow until disconnect...
Sorry, I missed that part somehow
My E90 use to do same thing aswell. Am on 3 network in UK.
I think its network deponded, not some think to do with handset.
Edit on post #4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2398651&postcount=4
exactly same problem here, connection freezes after few minutes, works absolutely fine after reconnecting. Has anyone found a solution for this problem yet?
HTC Diamond with Duttys ROM v1.8, radio 1.00.25.07; and I am on O2 network in UK
Oh and one more thing. I don't encounter this on my Stellar (Kaiser) with exactly same network settings. I will try different SPL today. Will update after.
Regards,
did you guys try do install the new O² HTC Rom Update? 1.93 is the version, maybe it will fix that issue you guys have.
i barely use my diamond for surfing over hdspa - only wifi - so i can't tell about this problem.
btw hello, i'm the new guy
Hello to the new guy.
Now I have changed the Hard SPL 1.24, different radio as well and the problem still exists!
When disabled HSDPA and working only on 3G everything is perfect. Is it only problem with O2 network or has anyone experienced it with any other networks? (but then again, if it was a network problem Kaiser would have the same problem but it DOESN'T) I don't know what to do next...
At least it seems it's not just me experiencing this problem!
My connection also gets stuck when switching back to HSDPA (not always though) and this seems to be causing issues when I connect to my office VPN aswell (when i try to complete data intensive tasks).
I'm 99% sure it's caused by the phone and not the network operator since I've used an older model HTC with my current SIM (Vodacom) and I don't experience this at all then. But when I put a different operator SIM (MTN) in my Diamond I also get this problem.
Anyone figure out what it could be yet?
so looks like it's the phone's fault...
hehe... am not alone in this...i think its network dependent.. ve
tried several hsdpa device, usb modem.. same ...
There should be a kind of solution maybe a software that will keep injecting data requests at intervals to keep hsdpa from falling back to 3G..
bR
My problem is definatly not network related. I've tried with another HTC Touch Diamond (on another network) and I've got the same issues connecting the VPN.
It really seems as if the phone has a problem dealing with large chunks of data (or a certain type of data).
Don't know if this makes sense but that's just my experience with it sofar...
so is there any solution for our problem?
This is driving me crazy
I have the same problem as you guys on my X1. I've tried almost everything and nothing works. Has anyone found a solution to this?

[HELP] GPRS not working

A strange problem..
I recently got GPRS activated on my sim..
When i try connecting on my Diamond, the E becomes active and it tries to connect.. But after abt 30 secs to a min, it says "Cannot connect for an unknown reason... etc etc.."
I initially thought it was a problem with the network..
But, when i put the same sim in my old Asus P525, set up the connection and tried to connect, the G became active and got connected within a few seconds!!!
From then i've been tryin to connect on my Diamond and have got connected about twice with E in the signal bar.. But that must've been some freak accident cos after a few hours i tried connecting w/o changing any of the settings and absolutely no luck!
I've tried almost all the cooked ROM's. And different radios.
Right now i'm on the Official WWE ROM 1.93.
Hard SPL 1.23 or 1.24.
And 1.00.25.03 Radio.
Any idea about what's wrong, guys?
Make sure you have the correct GPRS/WAP settings installed on your HTC Diamond.
There are different settings for Payandgo and Contract SIM cards.
You can try searching Google for them, or if you live in the UK try this website: http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html

prank1, the settings are right..
That's why it's working on my old phone..
I think it may have somethin to do with Edge and GPRS..
Maybe my service provider does not have Edge capabilities..
If i'm able to restrict my Diamond to try and connect to Edge and connect to GPRS instead, it may work..
Any way that could be done?

My bad - didnt see the 'set up connection' bit so I assumed you didnt have the correct settings.
I had this problem once but it went away with a ROM upgrade - that was when I had the XDA Orbit.
The problem may be that my phone does not try connecting to GPRS and directly tries to connect Edge..
Isn't the connection supposed to be G-E-3G, in that order?
Is there any way i can prevent my phone tryin to connect to Edge?
Can i make GPRS as first preference instead?
Anybody? Please?
From what i heard my diamond doesn't support US( or Canada which is where i live) 3g because of diamonds hardware so that's why it only connects to edge which is really slow... anyways to connect i had to phone rogers my wireless provider and they gave me my username and password which was needed to connect online. So i'm guessing it's the same for you if you go to
Settings > Connections > rogers internet( for mine) > Manage existing connection
from there you'll go to the next page where you can input your info.

Hey.. That doesn't seem to be the prob since i can get it to work on my old PDA with the same settings..
That phone gets connected and it shows 'G'.
What might help me is somethin to block my phone tryin to connect to Edge before it even tries to connect to GPRS..
I don't think that's practical, but wishful thinking..
I've had the same issue with my Diamond, I know for sure that the network settings are correct as it sometime connects fine and other times I keep getting the "Cannot connect for an unknown reason..." error- only a soft reset would resolve the issue. Seems a bit random but am trying to monitor what is causing it.
It always used to work fine on my Hermes. BTW I'm using Dutty's ROM on my Diamond.

Yeah.. Sounds almost like my prob..
Could it be a rare manufacturing defect sort of thing thats affecting our phones?
Cos nobody else seems to have such an issue..
And i keep changing between Dutty's and Panosha's ROM..
I don't know if it's same problem you have ,
but I had kinda same problem..
I found that the lame ActiveSync change the proxy of my internet connection and put in the internet connection proxy my local proxy at work, even I removed the proxy it didn't help (dunno why) , just by adding new connection from the advance and adding new name etc.. it solve the problem...

I've only had my Diamond (MDA Compact IV) for only about 3-4 weeks. I was so keen to flash to a different ROM that I did so within 10-15 hours of receiving the device; my point being that I didn't get to try out my data connection on the stock T-Mobile ROM.
The connection seems to be fine today...!

Ok.. Note the "E" in the first pic and in the second..
The first one is 'clear' and the second one is 'hazy'!
When the "E" is 'clear', my GPRS connects!!!
I found this out after putting a different sim card of a different network and connecting..
When i put the other sim card, i got 'clear' "E" and GPRS worked..
Then i put back my old sim card and on switching on the phone, the "E" was still 'clear'!!
On tryin to connect, it worked!!!! Even after several manual diconnections, it worked only cos the "E" was still 'clear'..
Then i reset my phone with my sim card and got the 'hazy' "E".. And back to square one.. Not connecting..
My question is, what does this 'hazy' "E" mean and how do i make it 'clear'???! Only then my GPRS seem to work!
Help!!!!!!
This is how it is when connected properly..
Cannot connect for an unknown reason
I also had this problem. To make my story short, I have a data plan with Claro Peru which I have been using with my Touch (not 3G phone) with no problems. 3 days ago I acquired my Diamond 3G US version. When attempted to connect to the HSDPA I got the error mentioned here (cannot connect for..., sometimes the "H" symbol was difusse [like in the picture in a previous post in this thread], etc). The root cause of this was that my data plan only have GPRS/EDGE activated, my network provider (Claro) differentiates 2G internet vs 3G (so no HSDPA/UMTS until subscribing to a new plan).
The **SOLUTION** for my case was to select under "Select your network type" the option GSM (Start, Settings, Phone, Band tap). The option Auto was the default. Thus restricting to EDGE my data connection (which is according to my plan). Also, on the same tap I selected UMTS(850+1900)+GSM(850+1900) under "Select you GSM/UMTS band". You have to select here the frequencies according to your country.
P.S. The problem was the same before and after I updagred my ROM to RUU_Diamond_HTC_WWE_2.03.405.3_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.51.25.26_1.09.25.23_Ship. So, two things to mention here. 1, A ROM upgrade is not the solution for this problem (in my case). 2, you can upgrade the Diamond US version (my is DIAM110) with a WWE ROM upgrade.
Hope this help someone.

I have the Diamond on T-Mobile in the UK with the web'n'walk plan (HSDPA enabled - although not the higher-speed "plus" version). This happens to me every single time I'm in a GPRS-only area - when I have HSDPA coverage, it connects fine. In order to get it to connect, I have to open the Comm Manager, turn off the data connection and re-activate it.
Before anyone asks, my connection settings are all correct and I've tried numerous different main and radio ROMs - nothing makes a difference. I'll give this a shot, see if it makes a difference.

OK, I would try the option Auto for the "Select your network type" so the phone auto negotiates the technology in use (between GPRS or the much better HSDPA), but change the option for the bands according to your country.
Let us know the results!
