Without meaning to sound defeatist, I have been looking into alternative devices, given the current issues
The Eten X800 is fairly similar in specs to the TyTN2. Has GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, no keyboard though (but VGA screen). But reading reviews, users are very criticial of the build quality, stability, usability, and customer support/ update frequency. The recent M800 has similar specs but with Qwerty keyboard. Again, I am reading bad reviews about stability and poor quality - apparently the key markings is rubbing off within days.
Other similar specced device is Toshiba G900. Again, seeing a lot of negative reviews, and lots of users sending theirs back. Apparently the interface and usability are appaling.
These seem to be the most directly comparable devices. There is the Samsung Imate range but I'm not too keen on the clamshell form factor for a PDA.
From what I am reading, HTC's devices are actually the most stable and well built devices with this sort of feature set. I realise there are huge issues with support and implementation of some features, but overall there is a reason why HTC stills keeps coming up again and again in "Top 10/Most wanted/ Most popular lists". Of course, they know that too, which is probably why they don't really care about the issues we are trying to highlight. They know that they are at least equal to any direct competition, even if no better.
Which is why I am sticking to my TyTN2 for now. It certainly does most of the things I want it to do, and does them fairly well, if sometimes (graphically) slowly. Put it this way - I bought my TyTN2 in October 2007 and have only ever soft reset it after installing cabs etc, never due to system freeze or crash. And I have certainly never had to hard reset. Have never had a device of any class I could say that about before. (course, guess what's going to happen in the next 24hours....!)
Anyone got any other comparable devices I missed out? As happy as I am with the TyTN2, if there was another device with same features but proper display drivers, there would be no question about swapping.
The at&t tilt is another name and the T-Mobile MDA Vario III.
+1 from me. Add the tilting screen, I'm not sure any other device has this and it's very practical. Likewise the QWERTY keyboard, limited competition for that. True you could get a bluetooth, or external keyboard, but that kinda defeats the all in one nature. Videos are fine with re-encoding (Ican live with that), sat-nav, perfect for the applications I run, I have tried TomTom now, and the jumpy screen really isn't that bad (IMHO) (however route calculation requires a bit of work, my 8yr old Garmin gives better, more direct routes. The Kaiser is quicker on calculation, but still has the same map errors the 10yr old map set on the Garmin has)

Optimistic ain't ya?! I'd be surprised if you lasted the day....
I just purchased a Tilt last week. I did not know about all the issues with slowness and lack of video drivers till after I brought it home. After reading through this forum I have determined that I should probably take advantage of AT&T's 30 day return policy and return this phone.
The problem is I do not know what the alternative from AT&T is. My new employer is requiring that I have a PDA/smartphone that supports MS activesync. So that eliminates the iphone. What is the best alternative from AT&T? Treo? Moto Q?
Thanks for the help.
I have had my TyTN II for two months now.
I have NO issues with slowness or anything else. I play full feature movies, games and many apps and it is definitely much faster than my iMate KJam (Wizard).
My advice is keep it and enjoy it.
There are many posts here that don't slate the device.
Some people want live feeds from Mars etc.
I can honestly tell you that I am very very happy with mine, but then again I don't fix things that aren't broke.
It is the best business tool on the market at present IMHO, and I did lots of research before buying the TyTN II.
Yes please take advantage of the 30 day return policy by taking 30 days to get to know the phone.

My brother once told me of the phenomenon of being awakened to negativity of something while being completely ignorant of it before. in other words, from the way it sounds, you did not really notice all the "bad things" associated with the product until someone told you of them.
I sometimes fall into the same trap. I got my phone right around when it was released, and I was completely blown away by it. I've never really had a pda phone before and it was just amazing for me. I then read all the negative comments about it then got worried and wanted to blindly replace it for the "perfect device".
I know realize that it doesn't exist and most likely, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. play with the phone and if you are happy with it, keep it regardless of what other people say is wrong with it.
BTW, you most likely won't get helpful advise about what other phone to get on a fanboy forum about the product you want to get rid of...
just my 2 cents
Oh this is a good one. I'm sure you won't have any performance problems with this one.

You will also read that some of us with the Tilt do not notice the issues you are speaking about. I don't feel that my Tilt's driver issues affect what I use it for. I don't watch movies all day long and play games with it, if I did I might change my tune...
No matter what, it's a step up from my 8525!
I looked through AT&T's VAST selection of PDA/smartphones and read the reviews there and elsewhere, and came to the conclusion that the Tilt would do what I needed. Mostly Office functions and what not. The Wifi was another major reason. I didn't get the phone for it's multimedia reasons.
IMO, stick with the Tilt, and if you want to watch movies, get a portable DVD player.
man I stream movies and watch them on the SD. It all works well enough for me. I just think the damn thing could run a bit smoother.
A lot of these posts are niggly things and not majors.
I see both sides and whilst this is slower than my Wizard for screen orientation flips, its got GPS built in. Big win immediately.
That alone wins for me, and ok, some things are slightly longer but let's face it, these are PDA's with phone functions, not phones with PDA functions (in which case look at s730 from HTC as an alternative).

This sounds like the best advice to me...
Don't flash a new rom or hard-spl (in case you want to return the phone - instead try as many programs, games, videos etc over the next week or 3 and see if the phone works ok for you - stress it a bit. If everything works ok and you want to keep the phone then you WILL get better performance from a cooked rom - if not then you've lost nothing except for a bit of time.
FWIW, I love my Kaiser - a few niggles but I know my way round them - I'm not going to change and will probably upgrade to Kaiser 2 or whatever in the future.
Here's the thing... there is no perfect phone on the market!
If you visit the forums for any phone on the market, you'll find things ranging from minor nits to severe bugs.
The best thing you can do is ask yourself if the issues of a particular phone are things you can deal with. Some are fixable with utility programs (tweaks) and some need new drivers. Some just plain won't ever be fixed in the lifetime of the phone.
What's a severe limitation to some, is not an issue to others. For me, the video driver issue isn't a problem, since I don't use my Tilt that way. But, for others, it's a show-stopper.
So, yes... do your research (preferably before buying the phone) and use your new phone for everything you can think of during the trial period. Ask yourself what your requirements for the phone are, and if you can live with whatever limitations/issues it comes with.
Hey,
just found this very interesting board and read through many of the articles here so that i may finally be able to pose my questions.
I'm currently using a old brick, a Nokia 6310. Since this thing is slowly falling apart I thought about moving to a new device. Normally I would take the cheapest thing availabe, because I don't really do lots of phone calls a month. But I miss my old Palm 1050 and instead of buying two seperate devices I thought of buying a smartphone.
The Kaiser seems to combine everything I want. Its quite uptodate, GPS UMTS and all this stuff included plus the hardware QWERTZ (and I think I want this thing, those touchpad-versions are just not fast enough). In addition it seems to be quite easy to modify this thing to fit your own special purpose (adding all these new ROMs, progs etc. pp.). The only problem is this damn video driver thing you read about everywhere.
So, my question is: How much of a problem is the driver situation? How bad is it, considering that I want to use the phone from web surfing over office use to multimedia and games (those Duke 3D videos are really cool, you know ), will it really bother me or is the phone still very useful (not as fast as it could be, but fast enough)?
If no, where are the alternatives? The Hermes seems to be faster, but it lacks GPS. Even if the Touch Pro is coming soon, it may cost far more than the current Kaiser. Same with the Xperia. Is there any other device which is as well equiped as the Kaiser and also good to customize?
Thanks for your help and maybe some recommendations
I think that the Kaiser should be able to suit your needs.
As a business phone it should very easily be able to handle almost anything you throw at it. And as a multimedia phone it lacks, to some in gaming performance, 2D/3D rendering and such, but as for viewing videos and surfing the web, these can be quite easily solved through tweaking and using the right apps. A combination of coremedia and a good ROM should have video working just fine.
i have had my tilt for almost 6 months now and have fully customized it to suit my needs. Everything works exactly the way I need it to. Take time to customize your kaiser and it will be able to handle just about everything you throw at it.
Maybe I can help you out a little. Being a user of both the Hermes and the Kaiser, the Kaiser wins but it's a close race. Both devices are similar in form and function with the Kaiser navigation and function buttons in a slightly better layout. The Kaiser and the Hermes have 400mhz processors but from different suppliers, The Kaiser is a little faster and beats the Hermes in opening and running applications, not by much but it is noticable. The Kaisers built in GPS works fine for me, but then so is the Bluetooth receiver I use with the Hermes.
On the other hand the Hermes was easier to customize initially, one step to Hard SPL and CID unlock the Hermes, plug in the USB, Activesync, and run the RUU, in 10 to 20 min it's done. With the Kaiser, well it's not as easy, as there are a few extra steps and 4 or 5 different Hard SPL's to to choose from. After the Kaiser is Hard SPL'd, upgrading ROMs is a simple task.
ROMs, the Kaiser was built to run the WM6/6.1 ROMs and the Hermes WM5/6. Almost all the WM6.1 ROMs for the Hermes are based on the Kaiser ROMs.
As for customizing, both will run pretty much any WM5-6 programs and/or applications.
For me tho, the Kaiser is the better device, with the built in GPS and slightly faster performance being the deciding factor.
Hope this helps you and good luck with whichever device you choose.
So you think there should be no problem with the right amount of tweaking?
Because in some videos on the tube I even saw it lagging when scrolling up and down a list or a website whereas other vids of Duke or Quake looked absolutely playable and in the range of 30-40fps.
Edit: Thanks to both of you for your opinions. I'm just a bit worried how much this driver thing will affect the overall useability of the Kaiser when processing anything with graphics, from simple site layouts to vids or games. And in addition my head is still working on the whole ROM thing right now, at least I got the differences between SPL, Radio and ROM finally
Okay, just have to push this up again as there came up some new questions (before I can finally order this thing here):
1.) Graphic Drivers
I'm still a bit confused about those. HTC did not implement real drivers for hardware acceleration, that's what I already got. But then there are some roms like the HyperDragon III WM6.1 WWE (which seems to be ported from the Diamond) that has "Direct3D Mobile Display Drivers", there's the "26_Kaiser_Diamond_V8" release with some ATI Drivers and there is the OpenGL project which seems to get into the hot phase right now. So what is the real deal here, where is the difference between those drivers and which impact do they have, compared to an untouched Kaiser.
2.) Roms
Also, just to get it clear: Roms are a user "cooked" combination of a tweaked OS (Windows Mobile with drivers or registry changes) together with a mostly changed interace and a cleaned up program package (removed and/or added), right? But I will still be able to configure the whole unit by myself, maybe not on the driver/OS level but on the program or interface level (for example: enable slide to unlocked if not already included, or disable a touchFlo feature, add or remove other software and so on).
Again, thanks for your help.

Ok, the driver issue is a pretty complicated thing, to some it completely cripples the device, and others get annoyed by all the "buzz" created by such a "small" issue. It really varies from user to user how big of a problem the missing drivers are. Normal use of the phone, excluding 3d and some 2d games, is very good. As you may be aware there have been, and still are many focused on creating and implementing drivers, and if you take a look at the htcclassaction.org website you can get a lot more info on the subject, 3D drivers will not do much for the normal wm6 interface or any other uses as they are not 3d applications. take a look at the website i listed and you should have all of the information you need. Keep in mind that this is a very good phone and pda. If you want a phone with a smooth iphone like interface, take a look at other HTC devices or maybe even the new iphone, these are both good alternatives.
As far as the issue with ROMS, there are many different ROMS out there by many different chefs, if you decide to get the Kaiser you should try out anything that you think looks interesting until you find something you like. wanting to customize your phone is easy through ROMS as well, take a look at clean, or lite roms which have the registry changes and small driver implementations from chefs but no "extra" apps. There are a few new drivers floating around, some do make the device a little snappier but are not 3d or even 2d acceleration drivers.
Hope i answered your questions, good luck with what ever you choose!
Thanks, indeed this is a help. So all this ATI stuff coming from the Diamond is not the real deal, maybe a small improvement but nothing more since they are just ported. For sure I already read the site you proposed, but I especially wanted to be sure about those drivers the Diamond roms carry with them. I don't think they are mentioned there, or did I miss something?
Anyway, I think I will just have to try and see for myself if the Kaiser would be "crippled" or "absolutely useful" for me. The new iPhone is cool, but for my needs it will be far to expensive, same with the Touch Pro. And I still want to have the QWERTZ-keyboard, so the other HTC devices are not really satisfying either.
Did it, now the Kaisers on the way, for the cheap price of 350€ unlocked etc. pp. Thanks guys, now I'm going to get everything I need in advance for pimping up my new phone
I very recently bumped to the TouchFLO 2D interface on my Tilt, and have fallen in love with my phone all over again.
I took the time to attempt Android, and while it is still being developed and buggy and such, the nature of the interface alone is not as intuitive (to me) as HTC has made TouchFLO.
Anyone else tried Android? Anyone else sort of disappointed, at least initially?
I've had a small play with Android running on a friend's Kaiser, and honestly I'm not liking the look of it at all.
That said Google Maps is much nicer in Android.
Oops - Double post
I've been playing with the Android port to Kaiser (see this thread), have played with the emulator that's part of the SDK and played on a Android G1 phone.
I found the interface to be intuitive and have been able to navigate my way around the usual features with ease. It has a few rough edges but in general I'm very impressed.
The guys doing the port to the Kaiser are making tremendous progress, with big improvements coming almost daily. That said there's still a lot of work to do before it's ready to replace Windows Mobile. If the port is completed (and I suspect it will be) then I'm pretty sure I'll make the switch and give up on Windows mobile.
So no, I'm not disappointed with Android. I'm just disappointed I can't run it on my Kaiser properly yet ;-)
Cheers,
Lanroth
I really like android on my Kaiser. It is getting more upon usable release. The only problems I see are with connectivity like cellular service and Wi-Fi, calls only being on speakerphone, the issue where if you open the keyboard-the screen rotates the wrong way, and the touchscreen calibration being off. Android for Kaiser has come a long way from the simple and pretty much unusable test version that couldn't do really anything. Also, all the problems I mentioned above are currently being worked on my our best and brightest developers. Although I will certainly stick with windows mobile as my primary OS, I will definitely use Android more as it becomes more stable. All in all, I'm very happy with it.
Dave
I recently erased and reinstalled the rom (it just wasn't running as clean as I wanted to)which is the basic rom that came from ATT. Anyways. i'm having troubles as:
1) I get no response sometimes with the touch screen. Whether I touch hard or soft. After 3 seconds or so of constant tapping it comes to life but happens too frequently. I get so pissed I want to slam it the floor.
2)Another problem i'm having is I can't install many programs. I'm getting tons of errors. I can't install Kaiser tweak or advanced config. I can't install games.
3) when I'm in a wifi area (coffeeshop/restaurant) I go to activate the wifi card (wireless manager) and it gives me the 4 colored icon moving showing it's working for 4-5 seconds and it's still off. I can't activate the damn wifi card..
4)videos I converted with spb mobile dvd appear to play slow and have speech delays/synching, which they never did.
5) A wierd thing happened when I used "file explorer ex" to go to the storage card directory, all of a sudden I had tons of wierd files all having 3 characters only with numbers/letters with a windows icon and I couldn't erase it because it said it was a system file. something like 10-15 of them. I restarted the system and it went back to being normal.
DAMN TYTNII/TILT/8925! i'm fed up with slowness and problems with the phone. I'm considering the Touch pro2 but from what I see it has the same crap processor and so I'm wondering if they didn't include the video driver for that one (or any other model HTC has, and so I'm consider something besides HTC, maybe the xperia) as well. I want to be able to play full movies, skyfire, and a good keyboard not like the tilt. I want the UI to be very fast and smooth not like the tilt. And when I press the red button to hang up a call, I don't want to wait 2-3 seconds either. BTW, when is WM7 coming out cause this 6.1 aint doing it for me.
I AM NOT HAPPY.
That sounds bad.... When you say you reinstalled the ROM do you mean that you reflashed it or that you did a hard reset?
Have you tried a hard reset? (again)
Settings-> system -> clear storage
You could also try the official WM6.1 ROM that can be found on the HTC web site.
if the purpose of the thread was to rant/vent, i'll leave it at that
but if you want help to see if you can improve on some or all of your complaints, we will need more information, particularly:
A. was it fine before? when did each of the problems start? please go back to your original post and describe which problems existed from the beginning and which ones popped up later
B. describe your configuration. which version of windows mobile are you using? 6.0? 6.1? 6.5? is it an official ROM or a "cooked" one? whats your SPL version? which radio ROM are you using?
C. which software are you using for video playback? granted, the kaiser lacks proper video drivers (as do most of HTC's newer models), it can still be tweaked quite nicely to give very acceptable video playback...i play divx/xvid videos at FULL framerate with no lag on my set up, after appropriate tweaks of course
D. maybe the wifi networks you are trying to connect to are SECURE and/or MAC filtered...have you tried connecting to a network that you are certain is open-for-all?
E. have you tried a hard reset as suggested in the first response in this thread?
F. most of the problems you are mentioning sound like SOFTWARE and/or OS issues...hardware is quite a distant possibility to blame so considering moving to a new device based on your reported observations is uninformed. windows phones are windows phones and they are designed to be flexible and masters-of-everything and therefore require the user to be well informed and aware of what he/she is doing. if you can't keep up and don't desire and/or can't harness the uber-power that the kaiser delivers, move on to the iFart and be done with it
my advice is to provide answers to the above and/or perform a hard reset and/or change your ROM. OR, you COULD just have a lemon on your hands in which case a change of hardware is your only option. but you will only know for sure it is a lemon if you go through the motions mentioned here...
good luck!

No I haven't, but I will.
You could also try the official WM6.1 ROM that can be found on the HTC web site.
I will have to invest more time in learning in how to do that. I did try many months before to read up on how to do the rom stuff but (not to offend the website) the info is all over the place and not esthetically pleasing to read, I gave up. Plus it didn't answer a simple question of:"If you've cid unlocked your phone do you need jumpspl or just do hardSPL"
if the purpose of the thread was to rant/vent, i'll leave it at that
At first it was to write the problems I had but more and more when I was into writing the post I was getting so Pi**ed so mostly help, part rant..
a)I've had the phone since Sept08. After unlocking it using an ebay service I used it as it was. a few weeks after that I did my first hard reset ( I forgot the terminology before) and then a week later found out about the 3 second reset to remove bloatware, so did that. About every 2-3 months it seems to have little problems (not run smoothly, memory full)and I do a hard reset. The last one I did was 2-3 weeks ago. I missed the 3 second opportunity and did a HR again, then did it. On my Mi-SD card I have most of the software I need to get it going. All TCPMP extensions to play flash, windows DLL's , kaiser tweak, memmaid, aflashlight app, skyfire, opera, minimo, fonts, ringtone, HTChome6, a dialer to replace the junk one included, and other stuff, you get the idea. The screen was fine before. never had the tapping problem i'm having now.
b)I can't install KTweak or the andvanced config, which I was easily able to before. I removed opera because it was bothering me with the XML part of the Ktweak, but still not able to..
c) I have WM6 PRO CEOS 5.2.1620(build 18125.0.4.2) just the regular att one I recieved when i bought the phone (ebay)
d)which software are you using for video playback?
TCPMP with all the drivers/DLL's. Btw, for the heck of it, all video's of WMV I converted using SPB dvd mobile I played in windows mobile, and it plays it much smoother than the TCPMP.
e)As far as the wifi is concerned, I mean that first I activate wifi through CONN manager, and try to activate the 2nd icon on the right side going down, the "I" with the the 2 "c's" on each side..that's what i'm talking about, it doesn't want to turn yellow. Then after I activate it, I go to the wifi, see the available networks available then connect to one. I don't even get to the 2nd stage since it doesn't want to turn the wifi on..I tried it this second it works fine. I guess it works according to how it feels that day.. Not that I net so much with the phone. WhenI can't activate the wifi card,, the square "E" icon at the top starts searching using GPRS (if I recall) and it shows the "E" with 2 arrows moving to the sides (like the wifi does) and a windows keeps popping up and won't go away!!! it drives me crazy..I press the hang up button but it doesn't stop it, till I can take it no more and pull the battery out..
maybe the wifi networks you are trying to connect to are SECURE and/or MAC filtered no, their all public wifi's, in restaurants, coffee places..places like that..
f)I'm having another problem I didn't post before. When taking photos, there is no zoom out/in icons like they're used to be. This problem started about 3 months ago. H-reset or S-reset won't bring back the 2 icons. In Video yes, but in camera mode no..
most of the problems you are mentioning sound like SOFTWARE and/or OS issues...hardware is quite a distant possibility to blame so considering moving to a new device based on your reported observations is uninformed. windows phones are windows phones and they are designed to be flexible and masters-of-everything and therefore require the user to be well informed and aware of what he/she is doing. if you can't keep up and don't desire and/or can't harness the uber-power that the kaiser delivers, move on to the iFart and be done with it
YOU"RE 100% right!(Iphone..OH,GOD NO!!)I lack some knowledge as to how to work it properly, you're right about that. I don't want a phone that I buy to have to flash it it, and to do this and that, and blah blah blah. I want something that will work right out of the box. Will be quick, not lack drivers(which btw, HTC back stabbed everyone, and for this reason I'm not sure i'll go with HTC again) and be able to do it all. I'm willing to put down $1k for this phone, even $1400, but fo some reason or another no one can make one. Why I don't know. Why can't 1 smart manufacturer, look at all the flaws of the top phones and produce a perfect phone. People would jump all over it. I also feel like giving up with the TILT, only because it doesn't satisfy my needs. i'm not to happy with the TILT. At first I was extremly excited, but now, I want to slam it to the floor. The software lacks many things, and it can only do so much. The market and tech is there for many years, can't they make a perfect pda phone, and why the hell is taking M$ so long to make an OS that has it all? If they can make a great OS like Windows 7, why can't they implament that tech to PPC's? LAZY IMO!
I'm looking at all the phones on GSM arena, and none of them has it all, none. Considered the xperia, but crappy rez and small screen. The new Idou, only good because of the 12MP camera, but nothing else, and don't want symbian OS..fed up with Nokia..nothing normal out there. All HTC's. all the same..can't find something normal..
I will do the reset and i'll et you know in a few hours.
Thanks for all your help, I extremely appreciate it..
I should have posted the topic" I NEED HELP PLEASE. TILT AND OWNER FREAKING OUT+RANT"

jumpspl is needed ONLY AND ONLY to CHANGE your HardSPL...it is also needed to put on the HardSPL in the first place. it may not be a very intuitive read and certainly requires some effort on the reader's part but if you read it all carefully, your concepts will become rock solid and all further steps and conclusions will flow logically...the pieces will fall into place.

its a good idea to keep all installables on your micro sd card. BUT, you should install ONLY the stuff you TRULY need. also remember to clear up browser caches and temporary files that are dropped on the device internal memory from time to time. skyfire, opera, minimo...thats THREE browsers in addition to the builtin IE...i just stick to the latest official beta of opera 9.7 in addition to the latest IE built in to my winmo6.5 ROM. my point is, windows mobile (pre 6.x, 6.0, 6.1, and 6.5) is somewhat delicate and sensitive in terms of the specific versions of applications you install. i've had my kaiser (my FIRST winmo device) for just over a year...i still use pretty much the same applications as i did the first couple of months, i've abandoned some in favor of better ones, and nearly all of them are newer versions that i am certain are compatible with the winmo build(s) i am using at any given time. your stock ROM is quite an OLD build and quite a few corrections and improvements have been made to the OS, so much so that the build number is now in the 21xxx range (compared to your 6.0 build of 18125) and still going further (a bunch of new bugs and issues are inevitable as the OS moves forward). my point is, perhaps you have accumulated some newer installables that don't quite play well with your old OS build 18125.
b)I can't install KTweak or the andvanced config, which I was easily able to before. I removed opera because it was bothering me with the XML part of the Ktweak, but still not able to..

thats odd...once again, kaisertweak and advanced config have both progressed to newer versions...if you have an old installable, try a new installable. if you are already trying the new installable, try the old one from the era that your build belongs to.
c) I have WM6 PRO CEOS 5.2.1620(build 18125.0.4.2) just the regular att one I recieved when i bought the phone (ebay)

i'm not saying you should try att's newer official winmo6.1 ROM but some people have reported great improvements, but your milage may vary. i, on the other hand, SWEAR by "cooked" ROMs and there are some particular cooked ROMs that will impress the $H1T out of you
d)which software are you using for video playback?
TCPMP with all the drivers/DLL's. Btw, for the heck of it, all video's of WMV I converted using SPB dvd mobile I played in windows mobile, and it plays it much smoother than the TCPMP.

i never used TCPMP and i quickly moved on to coreplayer, even when i was on winmo6.0. so far, the BEST video performance i have gotten was with the following configuration:
1. Sakajati's HyperDragon IV Rhodium ROM (April 10th, 2009)
2. chainfire's gfxboost v1.1
3. coreplayer 1.3.2 build 6909
4. coreplayer configured to DISABLE QTV mode, and video mode set to DirectDraw @ medium quality
on a side note, the ROM mentioned in item 1 above is STELLAR if you're looking for a good cooked winmo6.1 ROM.
e)As far as the wifi is concerned, I mean that first I activate wifi...I guess it works according to how it feels that day.. Not that I net so much with the phone. WhenI can't activate the wifi card,, the square "E" icon at the top starts searching using GPRS (if I recall) and it shows the "E" with 2 arrows moving to the sides (like the wifi does) and a windows keeps popping up and won't go away!!! it drives me crazy..I press the hang up button but it doesn't stop it, till I can take it no more and pull the battery out..
maybe the wifi networks you are trying to connect to are SECURE and/or MAC filtered no, their all public wifi's, in restaurants, coffee places..places like that..

make sure your wifi is set for "Best Performance" as opposed to the default "Best Battery". you might want to look into changing your radio ROM as well, making sure to match the radio version with your winmo MAJOR version. that is, some radios are made ONLY for winmo6.0, others ONLY for winmo6.1 and winmo6.5. same concept applies to the particular HardSPL version you use. finally, quite a few senior members and cooks here claim that wifi is the ONLY radio that is NOT AFFECTED by your radio version but my experience has been different.
also, you need to understand how windows mobile "picks" an available connection and uses it. if your data connection is set up and enabled, it will almost always be picked and forced to connect, even if your wifi is already connected. you'll have to read up some more about the concept but here is what i do. i have my data connection DISABLED all the time. i force windows mobile to always pick "My Work Network" (which is usually the wifi). note that windows will NEVER force the wifi to connect and won't be able to connect the data connection because i have disabled it. this way, i have TOTAL control over how it "dials out". so when i am in a wifi area, i connect my wifi manually and when i am not in a wifi area, i enable my data connection and i let windows dial out onto Edge/GPRS, etc.
f)I'm having another problem I didn't post before. When taking photos, there is no zoom out/in icons like they're used to be. This problem started about 3 months ago. H-reset or S-reset won't bring back the 2 icons. In Video yes, but in camera mode no..

errr i think the zoom level is controllable in the camera ONLY in non-3-megapixel mode. that is, if your camera's picture taking mode is set to 3MP, you will NOT get any zoom control. set it to anything lower and you should get zoom control. you must have inadvertantly set the resolution to below 3MP and 3 months ago, either you or the hard reset must have caused it to revert to 3MP, hence your inability to zoom in picture mode.
most of the problems you are mentioning sound like SOFTWARE and/or OS issues...hardware is quite a distant possibility to blame so considering moving to a new device based on your reported observations is uninformed. windows phones are windows phones and they are designed to be flexible and masters-of-everything and therefore require the user to be well informed and aware of what he/she is doing. if you can't keep up and don't desire and/or can't harness the uber-power that the kaiser delivers, move on to the iFart and be done with it
YOU"RE 100% right!(Iphone..OH,GOD NO!!)I lack some knowledge as to how to work it properly, you're right about that.
Thanks for all your help, I extremely appreciate it..

i said it before and i'll say it again and i don't mean to sound harsh but windows mobile is powerful...and with great power comes great responsibility...the user HAS TO BE AWARE of what he/she is doing and what is going on in the device to be able to tweak it and customize it and to get it to do EXACTLY what is desired.
