G'day champs!
I signed up for the x-series pack... wondering if anyone knows how to get the three services such as windows live msn etc etc... everytime I try, it gives me an error message
"Sorry, Windows Live Messenger isn't available on your mobile"
"To find out about upgrading your mobile, please call 3 Customer Care on 133 320"
Alternative: Install the actual windows live messenger app from msn website. With this option, I wonder if the data usage be counted towards my allowance?
Thanks
You won't be able to download 3's MSN messenger. You would need additional site certificates to be able to use them. These certificates are only included with 3 branded phones.
Just use your own client and use data. Yes it will be counted towards your usage, but it won't be that much..it's only text afterall. Be sure to monitor your usage from My3 and/or use the bundled GPRS monitor from the HTC cd.
I use the official msn version from MS, it doesn't use much data at all.
Also on the X-Series plan, but it does count towards your data as it's not the "3" client.
Thanks for the replies guys... Appreciated
While I am at it... I shall ask another question...
Windows Live Messenger adds all my msn messenger contacts to the contacts on my phone... now my contacts (phone book) is messed up with like 100s of email contacts...
Is it possible to change the settings so that msn messenger does not save the email addresses in my contacts list?

Hi guys
me again
Could someone please explain me how to set up a hotmail account on pocketpc to download the emails?
Get Pocket MSN.
It's finally released, has a one-time fee of $19.99 and integrates MSN Mobile, MSN Messenger, Hotmail. The payment also enables your MSN/Hotmail account to send and receive Hotmail through "Pocket Outlook" on your Pocket PC.
http://mobile.msn.com/Default.aspx
Just click on the second section labeled "Get Pocket MSN."
Try HTTPMail Provider 1.0
While people had issues with this recently due to Microsoft changing the way MSN/Hotmail is accessed, this is still available for trial download to see whether or not it still works. (I just went with Pocket MSN to make sure I got this working from Microsoft directly.)

I like to know that to, my contact list is an absolute mess right now.. everyone I ever send a mail appears in my contacts list.. a great feature microsoft... NOT!
Any other way, other than deleting them manually?
I just installed Orwells crossbow, and ran MS Live. The contact list is now a mess :-(

+1..........
well, you do have two options.
when you have duplicates you have to enter their hotmail address into the corresponding IM field.
If you dont want to show them it is best to put them all together in a group and then to setup a filter to not show this group. This wont prevent the contacts from being synched
BIG NOTE:
Do not remove manually
It will remove them from your global contact list (i.e when you sign in on your pc your list is empty!)
Still no solution for this really annoying issue?
remove msn contacts
just wondering the same....
it's really a very very horrible feature....if i filter by groups the upper index don't work and neither the search box....
I'm working on a similar problem. The first time I ran it it put all of my Live messenger contacts as separate contacts on my address book. I had to remove them multiple times and from multiple places to keep them from showing up. I have since put all of my contacts email addresses into the IM field of their address book entry. Unfortunately my Live Messenger is now blank and I've yet to be able to figure out a way to get them back over. I THINK that if I had a Live mail account I could make it work by importing all of my contacts into Live mail using the Outlook Connector. Unfortunately I set up my passport account years ago with my ISP email. You would think that MS would have a way to add live mail to an existing passport but apparently you can't. . Now my MSDN account as well as my Xbox Live accounts, neither of which can be changed I don't believe. Rather leaves me in a bind, unfortunately. I have put in emails to MS support trying to find a way to import the contacts into Live Messenger but, unfortunately, I don't think it's going to be possible.
the work around:
use an companyname i.e. Live Messenger for these Live Messenger "contacts"... in this way you can sort on company name....
it is not the best solution but it is a bit ordened then
How about Unchecking the "Contact And Messenger" from the
Options/Sync options.

nop....when u try to sing-in for the first time (also with the sync option uncheked) a pop-up appears telling you that the msn conctacs will be imported to the phone contacts...if u cancel, you can not sign in....
Stupid Feature!
This is the most annoying feature of the new Live Messenger. How come can MS think that people would like to merge their MSN contact list with the Phone contact list.
It is a mess!
I suggest using another messenger variant like IM+ or Agile.
Best regards,
Emre
Octro Talk is also very promising; but it sure would be nice to use the otherwise very well done Windows Live Messenger... it's hard to believe that Microsoft will leave that "feature" to be mandatory for long in a product that quite some work must have went into and that becomes a hassle to use because of the messed up contact list. I even lost some data due to the clunky handling of the Live and Exchange contacts combination...

Its the worst feature in windows live. I better use IM+ to enter MSN messenger. I hate that all my hotmail contacts are copied into my phone contacts. I tried to syn my outlook contact with my hotmail contacts but at the end i ended having duplicate contacts.
My advice dont sign in using Live Messger, find an alternative.
idea
I was trying some things with .net 2 but no success. MSN stores contacts on the outlook repository so there is no way to delete those entrys and not delete the MSN contact.
I think de only way to solve this is to find a way to start de contacts screen with a custom filter. For example not showing contacts that first name equals to empty. That will do the trick for me.
With custom ListViews or ChooseContactDialog of .Net 2 you can make some filters, but i canĀ“t find a way to make an exact replica of the original contacts screen and all of its functionality....
So there must be a way to start de original contacts application with a custom filter that doesn't show contacts having first name as empty.
any guru?
workarround
not a solution but a way to use live messenger and then restore contacts:
- log in to live messenger
- enjoy it
- sign out
- go to Windows Live
- go to options
- click on switch account
done...msn contacts are remove from outlook contacts
Please give more info
Dear Eljoe,
Can you give a little more info about switching the account to remove contacts imported from MSN to my Exchange/Outlook address book ?
Could you give a little more info on every step why and what you do exactly ?
If you really "tackled" this problem, it should be put in the WIKI for all devices !
Please enlighten us all a little more
Mike
Hi everyone
I was just wondering about what are cool program that you could use on the wing using the Data plan ( internet).
I currently have http://www.palringo.com/ which is a messenger program that runs on with data plan. It really nice program and for people that like to chat with aim, msn messenger etc...It doesn't require TXT plan.
I was also wondering about my mail. When i go to the AIM site to check my mails only see text, not picture what so ever..Is there something wrong with my phone or is just not mean to be??
aad4321 said:
is it an @aim.com? im sure thats a pop3 email account. Google pop3 settings for an aim account, and you can set it up so it uses the mail application on the phone, instead of using internet explorer. you can also set it to check for mail automatically anytime you want

Hi i kind of follow about what you said and instead of me cheking my emails on the internet explorer(My wing), I set up the email on my phone..So now i get my message on my phone directly but most of the picture theu dont display.. So i told my friend to send me a picture to my email, when i got the email and the attachment. I couldnt download the attch. or view it.. So i told him to send it as when you insert a picture . When i got the new messg. i saw the picture but i wasnt able to sae it to my phone.
** is there any plug-in for these **
Greets,
After following the Tilt pre-release to the present day, I have finally broken down and gotten one (yay!)
I was not an AT&T subscriber and so I would like to test out AT&T's service as well as my new phone, and do not want to do anything which would get in the way of the return, if necessary.
So ... I had a few questions:
1) I know I should not flash to a new ROM, but can I still do the hard reboot/soft reboot to remove the AT&T bloat, without jeopardizing the return?
2) If I do remove the AT&T bloat, how do I configure the phone to access the web, etc.
3) Can I install programs?
4) If I can install programs, which AIM client can I use to avoid hitting my 1500 maximum text messages.
Any responses or advice is greatly appreciated!
Answers:
1. Yes, you can do the hard reset/soft reset and not worry about it. If you need to return the phone, just do a hard reset and allow the customizations to install.
2. It'll be configured automatically, you don't have to worry about this.
3. Yes, I have not found a program yet that doesn't install.
4. For IM in general, I use Fring or Palringo, both of which are free and work over data, not text messages. Fring also works as a Skype client, so you can make Skype (or Google Talk, MSN, etc.) internet calls with it.
Hope this helps.
No AIM
snooginsguy,
Thanks for the info ... I take it (from their sites) neither Fring nor Palringo do AOL Instant Messenger ... am I correct?
Thanks

Palringo does support AIM.
What Instant Messaging Services Does Palringo Support?
Yeah, and I can't tell if Fring does from what it offers as services on the device (I don't use AIM) but there are ICQ, SIP, and Twitter options if those have anything to do with AIM.
Hey folks,
Sorry to post such a 'simple' question, but I can't seem to google up the right words to find what I'm looking for -- and the links I did find didn't give me much personal opinions of different services.
I recently lost Sync options with my work (yay economy and licensing costs).. I loved using Outlook to sync my calender from MS Exchange to my phone... and I could use OWA to enter in my calender events from my computer. It also allowed my calender to survive flashes w/o backups.
I can't survive without my calender syncing, since the change i'm late to work constantly (I used to enter my shifts in OWA w/reminders 2 hours before to make sure I'm moving early enough to get ready & to work on time -- In case I'm watching a movie with the dog and don't notice the time)
I found 2 solutions, but both are around Google's calender, which I'm not super keen on, but could work:
1. Google Calender Mobile Website -- My understanding is it does reminders by SMS(?) and is mostly managed by google -- not the phone.
2. GooSync / OogSync -- Looks like it'll sync right into the phone's native calender -- But I didnt see verification of it syncing with the native calender, and/or if it supports making sure my reminders & other 'extra' information is sync'ed
I don't want to give Microsoft any money for outlook, so what do you all use :-/
Thanks guys, again, sorry for posting this issue without spending 3 hours researching first :-/ but getting a headache from trying to find a solution!
So, My needs:
1) Bi-directional Sync
2) Extra Information (e.g. Reminders) Sync
3) Easy entry/editing of calender info from a computer
Hopes:
4) Can work behind corporate firewalls blocking gmail, yahoo mail, etc.
5) Task Syncing
Thanks guys, love XDA

Possible ways to sync
Unfortunately the easiest way would be to sync through outlook.
Though your company may have cut licensing cost ask the IT gurus if your company may have an agreement with MS. It's called Home Use Program (HUP) LINK.
If they do you can buy a full office pack for home use for ~ $20 which is definitely worth doing it. Afterwards simply maintain your contacts at your home PC and sync them through the PC. You may export them out of your office outlook either as PAB or CSV file and import at home. AFAIK this doesn't work with outlook express, you need a full blown office outlook.
You may also look at the link below if this would do it for you.
http://www.tipsfor.us/2008/04/15/sy...ontacts-and-calendar-using-funambol-for-free/
Perhaps you have a friendly IT group. Download the attached file, rename ZIP to PDF and take a look, it may work in your environment.
have you tried mail2web? its outlook (OWA), syncs with your phone (email, contacts, calender, etc..) and you can also manage it on your computer. Best of all, its free http://exchange.mail2web.com/
Hmmm.. with e-mail forwarding from my gmail to this that might actually work out well... save battery life on checking multiple e-mail accounts...
In case someone stumbles on this, link to account setup is: http://services.mail2web.com/Services/exchangesolutions.asp
Took a bit of searchign to find that page, most of their stuff advertises their paid services.... I'll give the free one a try, if I like it I'd be willing to pay (or at least donate) for it
instead of Mail2web try out seven, mail forwarding service. found here, i swear by it, it's been such a good service, you do have to sign up but it remembers you, so if you switch to another phone, ROM, etc your e-mail account(s) will be saved and you can add multiple accounts, and set times for mail forwarding. I'm not sure about contacts, but it asks every time i restart it if i want to import my contacts from g-mail. it's definitely worth a try.
