Just curious if u did, I have the 4 euros/500 mb a month option.
What i mean by that is does the phone's oulook connect to gmail account or does the youtube player play videos on a gprs connection (or is it hsdpa?).
Yes, all on HSDPA normally. And gmail works in outlook, automatically sets up as an IMAP server (enable imap in GMAIL though).
Flawless.l
Good luck. When experiencing connection problems, look if vodafone auto-setup enables a proxy. Disable it (but be sure it don't cost any extra $$, normally not).

Whether it is GPRS or HSDPA depends on the settings. If phone setting is set to 3G, it will pick up HSDPA it signal strenght is good and it will pick GPRS if your settings are GSM and/or UMTS signal is weak.
Mmm yes but does your connection manage to connect to streaming media like youtube and does outlook work?
Mine work fine on wifi but on 3G for example, outlook says "Error syncronizing" and pops up the 3G connections buble. Browser works fine though.

tnyynt - does your vodafone GPRS config involve using proxy servers? I think this must be the problem for gmail, especially since they want us to use ssl now.
Some folks are not routed through proxies and thus can acces the gmail IMAP server.
If you have your config written somewhere, maybe I can take a look at it?

To be quite honest, I never use my provider's data connection, only WiFi and the MMS connection.
Also, I'm on prepaid, so settings are different, and NO, mine do not include proxy. Did you set your settings up with Connection Manager?
Might take a look here and enter your settings manually (don't get confused by the Trinity page, it's the only supporting all connections).

Yes I read somewhere only port 80 works (which is the standard http port). Also somehow POP3 might work but pop3 is ****tier than IMAP, I'm going to dig around more on this and if i find anything else i'll keep u guys posted.
hey there. vodafone here as well. i was thinking of getting that 4 euro extraoption too but in my city (oradea, and bucuresti from october) there are plenty of free wi-fi connections available; although it consumes more battery, the connection speeds are far better and, most importantly, FREE.
youtube and gmail works perfectly fine

Off topic: I'm from Oradea too but I don't know that many.

Before everyone cries "duh, of course GPRS doesn't work during a call!" let me say I'm not talking about GPRS/EDGE.
With PDAViet4, I was surprised today to discover that IE and Messaging wouldn't connect with wi-fi while I was on the phone. It used to with WM5.
Weird data points for diagnosing: Netfront and QMail (3rd party browser and e-mail clients) work with wi-fi while on the phone, so it's not a "port" issue, and IE can connect to my DSL modem and wireless router (192.168.x.x addresses work!) but if I try anything on the 'net I get "locating" forever, then when I hang up the phone, it connects!
Can anyone confirm this behavior and/or suggest a fix?
How are Messaging and IE set to connect to the net?

I use "My Work Network" for both settings in Connections ("programs that connect to the internet should use" and "connect to private network should use"), and have tried setting Messaging to both "Work" and "Internet."
I create a GPRS dial-up connection in "My Work Network", so everything falls back to GPRS/EDGE when wi-fi isn't on or available.
It all works as it should in WM5 regardless of phone status, and works in WM6 unless I make a phone call!
Weird. I don't really need web access often while on the phone, but I'm just trying to work out the WM6 "bugs" if possible!
Thanks!
I wasn't able to connect as well.

My only problem is live messenger wont connect with PV4. IE is fine with all roms for me.
FWIW, IE and messaging are now working for me over Wi-Fi during phone calls. I don't know what I did if anything, but it worked.
Now if only the random power ups would stop! ;-)
This is the most appropriate location I could find to post this, as I have three HTC devices (8525, TyTN 2, and Advantage) so I thought I would start here.
Issue:
I can no longer connect to my Slingbox on my home network when using my MediaNet (wap.cingular) connection on the TyTN 2 or the Advantage.
Error Message: Cannot connect using these settings. But email and web work from the MediaNet settings, so I am fairly certain the configuration is correct.
Facts:
- The connection works over Wifi on either HTC device, so I know my Slingplayer Mobile settings (Finder ID, etc.) are correct.
- The connection works using a Verzion Motorola Q. My corporate VPN connection also does not work with AT&T, but does on the Q through Verzion.
Conclusion:
AT&T has (or did) make changes to the proxy used which prevents services running on certain ports from working correctly.
Question:
Is anyone else having problems connecting to their Slingbox? If you can connect, what settings are you using?
Additionally, could someone please explain the differences between the wap.cingular and isp.cingular settings? Do you have to use isp.cingular to get VPN and other advanced services to work? If so, what is the minimum data plan you must subscribe to with AT&T to be able to do so?
Thanks in advance,
Rob
I cant say why you are having issues. My Slingbox connection works fine (actually much better than fine) via my Kaiser on AT&T with MediaNet. It works better than it ever did with my 8525. I do notice that I do have 2 separate Connections, one for MEdiaNet and the other called "My ISP" which both point to the same wap.cingular APN. Not sure why I have 2, but everything works fine. The MediaNet one is "hidden" and I can't change it. The My ISP one is visible, but I don't want to delete it since everything seems to work fine. It just switches between them (albeit unnecessarily) to make things work when needed.
Furthermore, I am using wap.cingular exclusively. If you do connect to a VPN, you must use isp.cingular. The normal MediaMax, MediaNet and smartphone plans give you wap.cingular. The PDA plans give you isp.cingular. Blackberry plans may give you neither (they go to blackberry.net).
Thanks
Can I ask what port # you are using for your Slingbox? I am using 5001 for one of mine. Did you have to make a rule entry in your router or firewall? I am just trying to determine why suddenly I cannot connect. I am going to pop my SIM card back into my 8525 when I get home and check it again. The last time I tried it on the 8525 it worked. The trouble is, there aren't a lot of changes to make. it's pretty much wap.cingular and the password.
Thanks, and if you think of anything else, please let me know.
Rob
my slingbox works just fine on att. WHen i had the isp.cingular it did not. i had to change it to wap.cingular to get it to work.
Hmmm, don't know th eport off hand, but I want to say i'm justusing the default.
Did you upgrade to the new Slingbox firmware the past couple of days?
I did and could not connect. I called Slingmedia and they told me they had some issus with the new firmware and UpnP settngs in some routers.
I had to go into the Slingbox settings on the desktop PC and manually open the port in the router. If you call them they will take you step by sep
I had the same problem it took me 10 hrs to finally find the answer. It has nothing to do with your port your finder ID at all. like the a previous stated you need to use a different connection setting to use slingbox. Use or create the my isp connection. the only difference is one use proxy settings and one does not. to be honest i just deleted the media net profile and used my isp exclusively. the only problem is medianet keeps showing up in my connection settings. the medianet setting can also screw with push email retrieval
Thanks so much NJXBEAN! I could NOT get Slingplayer to connect until I made that change in the modem settings. It works great now!

Proxy was blocking me...
After experimenting with mine further, I was FINALLY able to connect by unchecking the "use proxy server" setting on my unlocked Kaiser. I wonder if the AT&T "Tilt" build of the OS will even allow this?
AT&T Tilt and Slingbox
Right out of the box, Slingplayer worked on my Tilt. I made no changes to the proxy settings.
I have the media net unlimited plan.
It could be a firewall issue. If the connection you have is listed as "Connects to the Internet" it'll block some ports. If you have Connects to Work, it'll open all ports.
I just just want to say that you guys are great! I had a problem with sling, researched on it here, and found the problem without asking..People, u gotta love it!!!!!!

If you just make your default connection Media Net it's already going to be set for wap.cingular
isp.cingular is the default only if you have it set to use ATT ISP as your connection.
Wow, I want slingbox now. I didn't even think of it working on my Tilt....is the data transfer extreme????????
Installed Opera and it works fine.
For some reason, IE doesnt seem to use my GPRS connection to connect to the internet. If I enable Wifi, it works as well.
I noticed this trouble after flashing the rom to Dutty's TouchFlo AT&T beta 2. IE displays "Locating" in the status bar. After a couple of minutes I get the pop up message "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try again later."
I changed my network setting to use the same GPRS provider for both internet and private networks.
I can active sync with my exchange server. I can get weather updates. I can RDP my exchange server. All signs of internet connectivity are present.
I can live with Opera, but it beats me why and where in the registry is this set.
I have googled and researched on the net, most i found was a registry setting that pointed to the user agent. but i later found out that it wasn't necessarily causing the issue. It just instructed the site that you were a mobile device and too spit out a mobile page if available.
Your help is appreciated!

Ok this issue is resolved when i reverted to the original HTC Kaiser ROM...dont know why this happens only with dutty roms.

Any ideas?

Call your carrier and ask if there are any reports with GPRS/3G access at the area where you have problems. Sometimes a faulty cell transmitter can cause this.

From what we have heard on here for US settings you may to disable 'Use Proxy settings' for your connection. That may help.
IE Cannot Browse Internet ...
so sorry guys but i may be posting this under an inappropriate post...
but my problem here is that i cannot browse Internet via active sync USB connection. it is giving me an error saying "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try again later".. this is strange but i was able to browse before. this happened suddenly and i haven't changed any settings. Tried remedies posted on other forums, how ever it dint work for me, Appreciate if any one could help me.
cheers
It happens because it is a AT&T based rom. They orinally configured the rom to use a Proxy server. There is a program i have which unregisters the proxy from the registry and Walla!!!!!
It happeed to my WM6, same here can use IE to surf internet by GPRS or USB, after disable proxy setting, is bck to normal, thanks!!
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Internet settings\EnableAutoDetect = 1
It works!!!
I had similar issues with Orange in the UK.
Received phone on Dec 7th, worked an absolute dream til the 11th when started dropping calls (issues with 3g network) and unable to connect to the internet via IE though Blackberry/Opera could still connect.
Well, after 3 handset replacements and everyone at Orange having no idea I think I figured it out. It's the Blackberry software. It seems to 'trick' IE into thinking there is a present GPRS connection, but obviously the Blackberry connection seems to use different broadcast ports where as other apps like Opera actively try to 'lock on' to a valid GPRS signal.
So, long post short... Spend the $24 and get Opera and leave IE to be confused by itself. Oh, and don't expect the 'tech support' at Orange to ever know what's going on!
Which program

Hi,
I am trying to make my t zones work for the internet and I somehow made it work for the web access. But when I try to connect with the Live messenger, it tells me that there is no signal and that: "There is connectivity problem..."
When I am on WiFi it works without a hitch and when I am through USB as well. Just not through GPRS. I do not see it even attempt to connect through GPRS. Is there a way to tell it to connect through wireless?
Thanks
T-Zones is a proxy service and Messenger will not work with a proxy. For this, you need the full T-Mobile internet service plan ($20/month). At some point, it is assumed that the T-Zones work around to get internet access will probably go away... you really aren't supposed to use T-Zones the way many are using it. Until that time, consider yourself lucky to be getting access for email and web browsing.
yup, I am lucky

OK, I found out that the problem was on the T-mobile side. They did not activate the plan, but it is weird because I was able to got online couple times. Right now it is working, just like you said - internet, but not messenger. I think that at this point I will stick with T zones. Since T-mobile does not offer 3G, I do not know if to invest in $20 plan. I get through T zones pretty slow connection, but I do not know if through data plan you get faster connection. Anybody?

Data plan does not get you faster speed, but you could use socket services to say play online games or use different IMs, and of course if you travels a lot around airport or stay at starbucks a lot, the hotspot is a real plus, for just $14 more a month...

I actually changed to Data Plan, because the Hot Spot is really nice for my laptop and so I got it. The odd thing is I did not have to change anything in my settings and they still work. Have not tried the Proxy server yet for IM yet.
Check some forums, I think somebody posted exact setting on the forum, but I can give you mine:
WAP: 216.155.50:9201
Secure WAP: 216.155.165.50:9203
Socks: 216.155.165.50:1080
This should work just fine for the data (does fine for me). I know that somebody also posted a cab file for T-Mobile settings, look up the forums the name is tmobyjoe599
Good luck!

When trying to add a mail client (hotmail) I enter my ID/PW and then it says it has found the settings for Hotmail. I press next and it says that again it cant connect
When trying to sign into Windows Live it says it cant connect
I have evoked IE and opera to ensure I have internet connection
If I turn on WIFI, all connect perfectly.
I have not only tried the different Roms, but also tried other versions of Windows live cabs with no luck
Can anyone help?
I've only tries the TLR rom but i have the same issue, cannot connect using GPRS or 3G but connects fine using Wifi or via ActiveSync. Im also on Tmob
its to do with T-Mobile, they have limited the connection you get when dialing from the handset.
I had the same problem. You can phone T-Mobile and see if they can sort it out for you.
Cheers,
re Phoning T-Mobile
I did phone T-Mobile, and they said its not to do with them. I used to have the MDA Compact III and that works with MSN etc, and if i turn that phone back on with my tmobile chip, it works, so guess it isnt T-Mobile, unless they can block specifc requests from specific phones?

Nope, followed the instruction to the letter!
Also when I was using the standard T-Mobile ROM this following worked...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2422579&postcount=14
But now I’m using a custom ROM, I cannot get it to work...
Just a quick update, I too got it working!
You got to turn off 3G in the Comm manager, reset, then remove proxy setting, reset again, then syncronise via GPRS, then switch on 3G in the Comm manager, then reset then it should work!
You can probably reduce the number of soft resets, but that is what I did so left it in there...
As my hotmail and messenger is now working, im not going to fiddle with it. But if someone is still having issues could you try disabling HSUPA. Keep HSDPA enabled.
I know that I have disabled this somewhere along the way and it might be playing a factor in getting the above mentioned apps to work.
For people who have custom ROMs only it can be found in Settings > Connections > Advance Network Icon.
Post back here if you have any success for others to try...
Everything is working for me straightway whether it's the stock or the latest htc rom. I didn't have to fiddle with any settings.
I found this issue about 3 weeks ago, internet completely stopped working so i contacted T-Mobile and they said they were having issues and it would be fixed within a couple of hours, since it came back up some sites worked, some things wouldnt, my push email wouldnt work. Ended up unticking the proxies and it started working again perfectly have found i've had to do this with every ROM reflash so i think they perhaps have changed something at their end which is causing some issues.
i've been getting the same problems for about a month, funnily enough its only when boss changed account from normal to web and walk (had a 800 phone bill as thought wnw was enabled on the account already!)
tried disabling the proxy and it still fails sync'ing, the weird thing is that it does actually sync SOMETIMES.. ie i wake up in the morning and it has randomly synced once or something. so god knows what tmobile are up to
I have the MDA compact IV, Im using Dutty ROM V 1.5. had the same problem with MSN messenger and hotmail, contacted the T mobile support but they could not help me.
Now everything is working following just disabeling the proxy
But Im still not able 2 make the MSN 2 work on my laptop when I connect 2 the internet using the mobile phone! is there a fix for this problem?
when I try 2 connect I get this error: we were unable to sign u into windows live messenger, possibly because of a problem with your internet connection. please tru again later.
error code: 80072745
I don't know how it works on Windows but in Linux I have to transport MSN through HTTP mode when I'm connecting over T-Mobile . Is there a way to do that in Windows?
Similar issues here. When the proxy setting was enabled, I couldnt connect to either hotmail or gmail. When I disabled, gmail started working fine but so far I have only managed to sync with hotmail once!
I wish there was an easy fix for this because its a pain in the rear!
