Hi, I have used this site for around 2 years, and often found answers…..however, this one I cant get round…I hope someone can help..here goes :-
Have tried the following on all of these ROMS
RUU_Diamond_HTC_WWE-ME_1.93.456.2_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship.exe
SwiftBL-WWE-Diamond-ROM-v2-0
SwiftBL-Diamond-ROM-v3-0
When trying to sign into MSN Messenger I don’t even get to the “enter Name/PW” section, it simply says “There was a problem signing you into messenger. It may be the service or you may be in a place with bad reception. Please try again later”
When trying to add a mail client (hotmail) I enter my ID/PW and then it says it has found the settings for Hotmail. I press next and it says that again it cant connect
When trying to sign into Windows Live it says it cant connect
I have evoked IE and opera to ensure I have internet connection
If I turn on WIFI, all connect perfectly.
I have not only tried the different Roms, but also tried other versions of Windows live cabs with no luck
Can anyone help?
I've only tries the TLR rom but i have the same issue, cannot connect using GPRS or 3G but connects fine using Wifi or via ActiveSync. Im also on Tmob
its to do with T-Mobile, they have limited the connection you get when dialing from the handset.
I had the same problem. You can phone T-Mobile and see if they can sort it out for you.
Cheers,
re Phoning T-Mobile
I did phone T-Mobile, and they said its not to do with them. I used to have the MDA Compact III and that works with MSN etc, and if i turn that phone back on with my tmobile chip, it works, so guess it isnt T-Mobile, unless they can block specifc requests from specific phones?

i was having problems with my MDACIII, thats when i found out it was T-Mobile.... dont use 3G or GPRS anymore, just WiFi, so cant say if it happens on my Diamond...
I just had a fiddle around and i may have fixed this issue.
Settings - Connections - Connections - Click Manage existing connections - Proxy settings tab - Untick "this network uses a proxy"
I can now sync my hotmail fine.
Re Proxy / connection settings
wahoo - thats fixed it
Thanks alot James, i will no longer throw the phone out of the window
Excellent
Paul
Have a t-mobile mda compact iv(t-mobiles diamond version)you cannot do this fix on it because the internet connection is disabled by t-mobile from altering manual,it says it is preconfigured and manual setting is disabled.very clever of them
yeh

This did not work for me. In fact all my internet stopped working!
If anyone has he original proxy setting IP address kindly post it here for me.
That is UK T-Mobile proxy setting...

You can just redo the connection wizard also
Sure you didnt untick "This network connects to the internet"?

This worked for me on ProjectDiamond rom. Had to switch to GPRS for setup, but switched back to 3g after and now it syncs fine.

Nope, followed the instruction to the letter!
Also when I was using the standard T-Mobile ROM this following worked...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2422579&postcount=14
But now I’m using a custom ROM, I cannot get it to work...
Just a quick update, I too got it working!
You got to turn off 3G in the Comm manager, reset, then remove proxy setting, reset again, then syncronise via GPRS, then switch on 3G in the Comm manager, then reset then it should work!
You can probably reduce the number of soft resets, but that is what I did so left it in there...
As my hotmail and messenger is now working, im not going to fiddle with it. But if someone is still having issues could you try disabling HSUPA. Keep HSDPA enabled.
I know that I have disabled this somewhere along the way and it might be playing a factor in getting the above mentioned apps to work.
For people who have custom ROMs only it can be found in Settings > Connections > Advance Network Icon.
Post back here if you have any success for others to try...
Everything is working for me straightway whether it's the stock or the latest htc rom. I didn't have to fiddle with any settings.
I found this issue about 3 weeks ago, internet completely stopped working so i contacted T-Mobile and they said they were having issues and it would be fixed within a couple of hours, since it came back up some sites worked, some things wouldnt, my push email wouldnt work. Ended up unticking the proxies and it started working again perfectly have found i've had to do this with every ROM reflash so i think they perhaps have changed something at their end which is causing some issues.
i've been getting the same problems for about a month, funnily enough its only when boss changed account from normal to web and walk (had a 800 phone bill as thought wnw was enabled on the account already!)
tried disabling the proxy and it still fails sync'ing, the weird thing is that it does actually sync SOMETIMES.. ie i wake up in the morning and it has randomly synced once or something. so god knows what tmobile are up to
I have the MDA compact IV, Im using Dutty ROM V 1.5. had the same problem with MSN messenger and hotmail, contacted the T mobile support but they could not help me.
Now everything is working following just disabeling the proxy
But Im still not able 2 make the MSN 2 work on my laptop when I connect 2 the internet using the mobile phone! is there a fix for this problem?
when I try 2 connect I get this error: we were unable to sign u into windows live messenger, possibly because of a problem with your internet connection. please tru again later.
error code: 80072745
I don't know how it works on Windows but in Linux I have to transport MSN through HTTP mode when I'm connecting over T-Mobile . Is there a way to do that in Windows?
Similar issues here. When the proxy setting was enabled, I couldnt connect to either hotmail or gmail. When I disabled, gmail started working fine but so far I have only managed to sync with hotmail once!
I wish there was an easy fix for this because its a pain in the rear!

Installed Opera and it works fine.
For some reason, IE doesnt seem to use my GPRS connection to connect to the internet. If I enable Wifi, it works as well.
I noticed this trouble after flashing the rom to Dutty's TouchFlo AT&T beta 2. IE displays "Locating" in the status bar. After a couple of minutes I get the pop up message "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try again later."
I changed my network setting to use the same GPRS provider for both internet and private networks.
I can active sync with my exchange server. I can get weather updates. I can RDP my exchange server. All signs of internet connectivity are present.
I can live with Opera, but it beats me why and where in the registry is this set.
I have googled and researched on the net, most i found was a registry setting that pointed to the user agent. but i later found out that it wasn't necessarily causing the issue. It just instructed the site that you were a mobile device and too spit out a mobile page if available.
Your help is appreciated!
Update
Ok this issue is resolved when i reverted to the original HTC Kaiser ROM...dont know why this happens only with dutty roms.
Giving Custel Roms a shot to see if this is still an issue
IE Cannot Browse Internet via GPRS/3G
I have exactly the same issue with my HTC 8525 Cingular with the original WM 6 ROM from HTC Web Site.
Any ideas?
Thanks!!!

Call your carrier and ask if there are any reports with GPRS/3G access at the area where you have problems. Sometimes a faulty cell transmitter can cause this.

I'm reasonably sure it's the phone, happens at home, happens at work, happened on vacation in both San Antonio and South Padre Island.
From what we have heard on here for US settings you may to disable 'Use Proxy settings' for your connection. That may help.
IE Cannot Browse Internet ...
so sorry guys but i may be posting this under an inappropriate post...
but my problem here is that i cannot browse Internet via active sync USB connection. it is giving me an error saying "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try again later".. this is strange but i was able to browse before. this happened suddenly and i haven't changed any settings. Tried remedies posted on other forums, how ever it dint work for me, Appreciate if any one could help me.
cheers
It happens because it is a AT&T based rom. They orinally configured the rom to use a Proxy server. There is a program i have which unregisters the proxy from the registry and Walla!!!!!
It happeed to my WM6, same here can use IE to surf internet by GPRS or USB, after disable proxy setting, is bck to normal, thanks!!
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Internet settings\EnableAutoDetect = 1
It works!!!
I had similar issues with Orange in the UK.
Received phone on Dec 7th, worked an absolute dream til the 11th when started dropping calls (issues with 3g network) and unable to connect to the internet via IE though Blackberry/Opera could still connect.
Well, after 3 handset replacements and everyone at Orange having no idea I think I figured it out. It's the Blackberry software. It seems to 'trick' IE into thinking there is a present GPRS connection, but obviously the Blackberry connection seems to use different broadcast ports where as other apps like Opera actively try to 'lock on' to a valid GPRS signal.
So, long post short... Spend the $24 and get Opera and leave IE to be confused by itself. Oh, and don't expect the 'tech support' at Orange to ever know what's going on!
Which program

Hi,
So far the AT&T Tilt has been kicking some serious ass. However, there has been one glitch that I'm hoping someone might know more about.
Twice now, the internet connection has stopped working through the cellular data connection. Connecting through active sync and wi-fi still works. The last time this happened I called Fido (Calgary, Canada), found out that everything was OK on their end and then tried a bunch of connection settings. Doing what they asked me to do didn't solve the problem. Then, seemingly by magic without doing anything in particular, the connection started working again and I could connect to web pages again through IE.
So it has happened again, and I can't to connect to the internet using IE (or any other application). Here is the status so far:
- tried rebooting the device
- been able to connect via wi-fi and active sync
- Installed Microsoft's Network Analyzer application which reports the following: IP address is assigned (cellular connection) and able to ping microsoft's http server (www.microsoft.com ). Note that when I disconnect my data connection the ping to microsoft fails so I believe it is actually reaching the server. There is no MAC address for the cellular network adaptor, but I don't know if this is normal or not. See the attached document which is the log file it generated.
- Tried to connect via Google Maps, Direct push (Exchange), Octro Talk. All of the applications give the same message that the page or service can't be found. It is odd that the Network Analyzer seems to be the only application that can talk to the outside world.
- Also re-ran the diable proxy cab for the Tilt
I didn't play with any of the connection settings prior to this happening so it's hard to tell what is causing the problem.
Thanks in advance,
Alan
Flash your ROM
If you are having the same trouble, I fixed my problem by flashing to an HTC ROM. Screen layout switching is faster now, my network connection is working and the system seems generaly faster. I'm using Dutty's Hybrid test final rom V4. If there is stuff about your tilt that you don't like, and you aren't actually using AT&T as your carier, then I would just ditch their ROM.
Alan
I spent a good bit of the day today researching this issue, but i have run into a brick wall - please help me out if you have any ideas.
The issue is that i can't access my gmail account via messaging on my at&t tilt except via a WIFI connection. If my phone is hitting my local wireless router i can send/receive fine, if my phone is hitting 3G, Edge, or HSDPA i receive 'Error Synchronizing" - "Cannot connect with current connection settings".
So, i read as much as i could on this issue and found a few common suggestions - all of which i have tried with no avail.
1) When i click settings -> advanced -> select networks - both are now set to MEdia Net ("programs that.. connect to the internet" and "programs that.. connect to a private network")
2) I have unchecked "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet" in my MEdia Net proxy settings
3) I have tried removeHiddenProxy4CWS_0522.cab and checked the registry setting as listed here to ensure that EnableAutoDetect is set to 1
4) I have set "network connection" under advanced in my gmail settings to both "The Internet" and "MEdia Net" with the same results
5) I do have pop3 enabled on my gmail account (it works fine on the phone when connecting via WIFI)
6) I have tried both via pop3 and imap settings for my gmail account setup
7) The connection being used is set to wap.cingular (not isp.cingular)
Please keep in mind that this gmail account works perfectly fine in messaging so long as i am connected to a local wireless router, it is only when going through AT&T's network that it does not work.
Is there any chance that AT&T has changed how they are forcing the use of their proxy? Am i wrong to assume i should be able to download my gmail through their network?
(p.s. thanks for any insight or help you might provide, i have managed to get my tilt flashed with dutty's latest release as well as my radio flashed, but i am having no luck with this issue)
note: during these issues with gmail, my live.com email was working successfully - you can always setup forwarding on your gmail account for a temporary solution
In your isp settings does it say "isp.cingular" or "wap.cingular". I had the same problem until i changed it to "wap.cingular". When it fails to connect it pops up a bubble window with a warning that it failed. Click settings, isp settings, next until you get to the setting that says isp.cingular. This is all granting that you're in the USA.
Problem confirmed for me as well. Cannot connect to gmail via the messaging app unless connected to wifi. I'm using MediaNet connection using wap.cingular when not connected to wifi.

yes, mine is set to wap.cingular.. i switched everything to use the MEdia Net connection (not the My ISP one) - which was already set to wap.cingular.. thanks for the suggestion though, i left it out of my list - if anything this can be a consolidated spot for common causes.
FYI, it actually started working on its own since my initial post (after not having worked all day).. the only things i have done tonight are the following:
1) did a send/receive via a WIFI connection on the gmail account
2) setup outlook 2007 on my PC and synched my contacts/notes/email
3) upgraded my radio from default .11 to .17 (perhaps .11 radio restricts proxy settings?) (*soft reset - may have played a role?)
i wish i had tested it between each of these steps, but i wasn't really doing these things to try and fix the gmail issue.. hopefully it will stay working
Here's a silly question - had you tried simply soft-resetting the phone? I had the same problem for a bit, was absolutely driving me nuts, and all it took was a soft reset to get it to connect and work fine ever since. Maybe for future reference...

not a silly question.. i had tried resetting somewhere amongst my attempts during the day with no avail, but obviously i reset during flashing the radio rom, so who knows, maybe that did play a factor.
all i know is it is still working today from work, so that is a big plus.

try everything in the list, and try a soft reset as well.. if that doesn't do it you may want to try and update your radio rom to .17 since you are on .11 as i was..
I had the same problem and had to enable SSL for incoming and outgoing mail under the advanced settings in the Outgoing mail server setup page. Once I did that everything has worked perfect since then.
Hope it solves your problem aswell.
I've never had an issue with Gmail and wap.cingular...except HTML messages still not working.
The SSL thing is most likely it. If you read google's instructions for setting up the account it clearly states that ssl with authentication has to be enabled.
Gmail
For those having issues with Gmail, has anyone looked into Mobipush? This service allows you to use your device's Direct Push Technology to get your Gmail sent to your device in real-time. I had previously mentioned this in another thread. All you have to do is turn on POP or IMAP access in your Gmail settings and setup your device as per the instructions on Mobipush's site. I've been using the service and it seems to work great...and did I mention its free?
here's the link...

I use Java for my Gmail account its very nice and fast with 3G. I have never tried setting it up on an account inthe built in Messaging App. I use Pocket MSN for my primary Hotmail account. Just download the Gmail IMAP software from Google and try it out and see what you think.

i had the same problem with bellsouth as my email provider when using outlook email but i got it to work on xpressmail - i still dont know what was wrong...
Same problem, I think
Gmail app loads and maybe 1kb comes down but then after a short time it errors saying that it needs a data connection and to look at the FAQ. This only started happening after upgrading to ATT ROM AKU 0.4.4. Worked on my stock ATT TILT no problems.
mobiPush looks good. I use Seven's extended beta. http://community.seven.com/forum/main.php They now support Gmail IMAP. It works great, and I like how it fixes Gmail's imap problems. I'll have to check out mobiPush to compare the two.
Funny, I was able to get G-mail to work fine on my first Tilt and I got the new one (red light of death issue) and now my G-mail won't work...

I had this when I upgraded to Dutty's new rom, and I was panicking like mad. I tried everything - but nothing worked apart from wifi sync - so I went to bed. When I got up I tried to sync and worked right away...
So I dunno if you've been hard at work at this non stop - best thing to do is seemingly to let it settle, same thing happened for me when I upgraded again to V3 Dutty's (which is awesome by the way) - gmail started working after a little while (this time I did nothing)
hi all could use some advise
HTC diamond - T-Mobile UK
Dutys ROm 1.4 (updated on monday)
Radio : 1.00.25.05
It connects to the internet via the web browser no problem, but it does not connect my data connection to check my mail etc - every time i do a send recieve on my mail it says error synchronising.
data connection is greyed out cant acess it, yet the H logo is showing and says its connected
settings from T-Mobile are:
APN: general.t-mobile.uk
Password: one2one
any ideas anyone?
have you removed the proxy?

thanks guys that seemed to work..
the only thing is it worked for 2 days fine before and then konked out, ive just upgraded to Dutty's v1.5 rom with - Radio 1.00.25.05,
if happens again what should i do as i dont fancy reflashing the rom weekly.
any ideas?
I used to have a similar issue, but mine worked straight out of the box for week and i was able to send/recieve mail from aol and update the weather, then all of a sudden it decided i could only use the net connection for web browsing,so i removed the proxy and all was good except for sending mail through aol,but that is a mystery in itself.
Now everytime i flash a rom i remove the proxy settings and it works fine.
There is also a reg tweak that can stop touchflo from using the proxy but i cant remember the exact thread, its on here somewhere.
So in answer to your question,I dont think the problem should re-occur but if it does then just kill the network connection and the connect again.
thanks dude, appreciate your help.
Huh. Odd. I had the same problem: Opera works fine, no problem, so does weather, stock quotes and QuickGPS; but email wouldn't connect and neither would YouTube... Clear the proxy and it's fine.
(using Gen.Y D2 R1.25 on radio 1.11.25.01)
EDIT: Apologies for the thread resurrection!
Hi guys,
I have just bought an HTC Touch Diamond 2 and very happy with it.
But, there is one problem which is nagging me a lot. I am able to fetch my mail when connected to WiFi or Edge, but when use GPRS, Send/Receive errors out by asking me to check my connection settings.
After going through a lot of forums, it was suggested that i change the Connection in Advance Server Settings from "Internet" to my GPRS connection, which is "Vodafone Live".
Once this was done, i dint get the connection error message, but a new one, which said "Message cannot be downloaded to your mobile device". This is really strange, because i can open websites from Opera on my GPRS connection.
Also, when i modify the connection to Vodafone Live, if i switch to WiFi, i have to modify the connection to Internet, to be able to use mail with WiFi. Isn't there a simpler and cleaner approach to the whole thing?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Sid
Vodafone Live automatically uses a proxy. This proxy only allows you to use their mail services. You need to disable the proxy in settings > connections > connections > Existings connections > Vodafone Live/GPRS etc..
I have the same problem: "Messages cannot be downloaded" or "Error synchronizing". The only way to get your mail going again is a hard reset, and then you can wait for the next time this problem occurs....
I think it's a WM 6.1 problem, possibly in combination with the TP2. I also have a TytnII with WM 6.1 and it's mail is working perfectly well.
What I've discovered so far:
- it's NOT a settings problem. It occurs suddenly after days of troublefree emailing.
- it's not a networkproblem.
What might be causing it:
- downloading your mail via ActiveSync of Wifi. I've noticed the problem occurs mostly shortly after doing so.
- a certain combination of installed programs. I'm now starting with a "blank" TP2 (just Windows and TomTom), and install a new program every day, when the mailproblem has not occurred.
It looks like the SMTP-issue in WM 6.0: once you've had 1 bad connection, your mail wil never work again.
I'm now using SpriteBackup and can restore my TP2 easily to the "out of the box" state + emailsettings after the problem has occurred.
Works absolutely fine with T-Mobile and a new TD2.. Used the e-mail for a week now, constantly. HSDP always on, and receiving e-mail every 30 mins. I think it's just Vodafone being sh*t instead of the SMTP protocol in Windows
I've also got Vodafone, but with a KPN-sim the same problem occurs.
My TD2 has been working fine for 4 days now, untill this afternoon I've been connected to the internet via WiFi (including automatic mailchecks). Shortly after disconnecting from WiFi and thus reconnecting to 3G/HSDPA for mailchecks, the dreaded message appeared again: "cannot download messages from the emailserver". And again, a hard reset was the only way of getting my email going again.
It seems WM6.1 in some way stores the (in my case: static) IP-address through which it connects to the mailserver. When this address changes or is unreachable, mail stops working.
It really is a combination of TD2 and WM6.1. My TytnII is working fine!
I'm getting sick and tired of this sh*t now!
