I just posted THIS in xda general but thought i would give my kaiser peeps a head start!
to be completely redundant it says this.
"Give Skyfire to your friends Announcement started 18th August 2008 and ends 30th August 2008
On the eve of the Olympics, we added Silverlight support to Skyfire, meaning that Skyfire users can watch any ofthe 2200+ hours of Olympics coverage provided by NBC on their mobile phones. To celebrate Michael Phelps’s monumental accomplishment of winning 8 Gold metals in a single Olympic games, today we have released a special code “Michael8” which will give new users access to Skyfire and the games (and the full PC web).
Spread the code “Michael8” to your friends and let them part take in these historic games on the go."
Says: Only users who are currently participating in the Skyfire private beta can access these forums. If you have forgotten your password, Click here!
that would make sense that you can't see the post...
I will attach it.
Still though, you should be able to go to skyfire.com on your mobile to access the software with the code above. Since I already have access through beta testing (which is how i found that post in the forums) I cant test this out. will someone let us know if it works??
I just tried the code and it definitely works!
still only for us residents no?

Apparently not, I just went to the sign up page and there is now an "outside of the US" checkbox which doesn't require a mobile number to join up.
EDIT: Okay maybe still not accessible outside the US but getting closer.
From the email:
"If your phone is currently not supported or live outside the U.S., you will be notified as soon as Skyfire is available for your phone type or in your area."
I think it's a code for when you already have the Skyfire and want to have access to the Olympics on your phone...
I thaught it was a code for us to get the Skyfire - I too have signed up for the Beta 2 but they just say in the mail that they don't know when the testing will start...
Skyfire requires too many personal info hoops to jump through to get.
No thanks.

Thanks for sharing this, it's a good find, i hadn't even check on it recently.
Sweet... Thanks... i have skyfire on my phone. Now I cant wait to get home and play with it.
ok i signed up with code and got nothing.any ideas?
No SMS
I can't receive SMS messages. (I don't have it, not even pay per use) That means no Skyfire for me either. (Not that I would give them my number so they could send me SMS spam anyway!)

You cant use it without an account, as far as I know.
No u cant. it wont let u access much of anything
I can confirm that it doesn't work either unless you're already registered and accepted into the beta team of skyfire. It's pretty much a waste of space too bad, i would have really liked to see this puppy in action.
I have been using it and I really like it. It is very fast, even for me in a non 3G environment. The user interface is simple. the only real issue I have is the book marks. I cannot figure out how to delete bookmarks you don't want any more! there is very little in the way of tweaks. I wrote a review with a ton of screen shots here: http://tiltsite.com/2008/03/skyfire-my-initial-impression/

No, it's not Java based.
It is pretty quick and looks great, but seems kind of sluggish on my device when viewing videos, which makes it in my opinion no better then opera mini if not able to watch videos smoothly. Anyone else had this problem? Damn HTC, they really need to get their act together and fix graphics acceleration on these devices!
Is there no way to activate this?
I tried the cab but it doesn't work.
Must say Skyfire looks for very promising.
what is its benefits??
It's looking good, only check this
Only available in the US.
Hi Ron,
Thank you for your interest in Skyfire, we do have plans to introduce our product internationally. It’s just going to take us a little time to get there and we ask for your patience.
Here's an update on where we are with the beta:
On February 8th, we began to release the Skyfire beta 0.5 on Windows Mobile phones in the U.S. To give you a sense of our product roadmap, after Windows Mobile, we will support the Symbian platform in the U.S. – starting with Nokia N-Series and E-series phones. It will take us several months before we support both Windows and Symbian phones in the U.S. In that same timeframe, we will be rolling out support for Skyfire in Europe and Asia.
As soon as we support your phone in your region, we will notify you by email. In the meantime, to stay up to date about what’s happening here, you can read our blog. You can also refer to our FAQ.
The Skyfire Team
I signed up on the Skyfire website back in January and haven't received an email.
I forgot when I signed up for the beta but i finally got the email last week. Skyfire is still missing a lot of features. True it does load a lot faster than anthing else I've had on Edge Network.
Some of the most obvious feature missing is the Tabbed Browsing capability. You can only be at one website at a time and although it streams mp3s off the website almost flawlessly, Videos play almost as if it were just GIF images (sometimes & depending on the speed it will play a little bit better) well I do have to take into consideration that I have a tilt
Even though it has its advantages I still find that Opera Browser is still better than skyfire so far. Maybe in their official releases they will include a lot more features
Still waiting for my invite...
I emailed Skyfire to check on the status of my invite and got this :
Thanks for your enthusiasm and interest in Skyfire. We cannot specifically tell you when you will be receiving your beta invitation. You are registered in phase 1 of the beta and we will notify you by email and by SMS as soon as there is room for you in the beta program. Please ensure that when you signed up for the beta you entered the mobile phone number you want to download Skyfire on. We need that mobile phone number to notify you when it’s your turn to download. Rest assured, no one in beta 2 will receive their invitation to download until all beta 1 users have been invited into the program.
As reminder, first we are supporting Windows Mobile phones in the U.S. After Windows Mobile, we will support the Symbian platform in the U.S. – starting with Nokia N-Series and E-series phones. This could take a couple of months as we continue development and testing. For all you Blackberry, Palm and Linux users, we hear you, but know the wait will be longer. For our friends in Europe, Asia and around the world, we are working as hard as we can to roll out the service internationally. We ask for just a little patience. We are a small team after all.
To stay up to date about what’s happening here, you can read our blog. You can also refer to our FAQ.
Thanks,
The Skyfire Team
So I'm verified by them to be in 'Beta 1' ...but still no luck yet....
I also signed up but have not recieved an email. I tried logging into the skyfire website and it says that my email isn't even in there? WTF skyfire?
I have been using sky fire for s few weeks now. it is very nice. my favorite part is i can stream audio and video over the media net and not have to use the ATT isp (where i cant get MMS and email) so i am very happy with it. it is ok fast and easy to use.

I had this same e-mail, but finally got my text last week. I will agree that it definitely loads up very quick over wifi, haven't tried it on edge because I cancelled my unlimited plan b/c ATT charges an arm and a leg. Like others I have no problem streaming mp3's or videos, but it just isn't smooth when watching videos, someone was exactly right a couple posts up when they said it was like watching a gif. It only runs a few frames a second for me, on youtube, nhl.com, gametrailers.com, etc. Imo, opera mini still takes the cake. I think once (if) the video driver business gets straightened out and v1.0 is released from skyfire, this will be a great browser.
my understanding is that Skyfire renders the page on the server and streams that to the client in a compressed format. It's the same as Opera and that is how they circumvent Flash video issues.
Honestly, I'm not that impressed with Skyfire, but I don't live on my phone. I usually am just checking the weather and email.

Depends on your opinion of "slightly." If you get a high number of unknown calls its geared towards you. If it's not for you, by no means are you forced to buy. If you want to give it a try, please do. Simply uninstall at the end of your trial if you are not happy with it.

LOL exactly what I was thinking. Wouldn't you need the caller name to appear when they're calling you? What's the point if not lol.
Kraize
My guess is that it wouldn't be able to give that information as it probably searches an internet database and it can't get a data connection while the voice connection is going through. I guess it would work if the user was using a 3G phone on a 3G network where they could access voice and data simulatenously.
actually if you read it DOES do it at the time the phone rings. It's only certain devices that it is not able to do such. Kaiser is one of the devices that CAN
I hope everyone had a great weekend. The Kaiser is one of the devices that does realtime calling name delivery. As stated on our site, Windows Mobile 3g devices are able to do realtime delivery. Blackberry and non-3g devices will receive the data post-call.
after being with co.cc for a few months for my website theyve decided to change there T&C's so that after a year i have to pay

my question is can anyone recoment a free doamin name service the supports url forwarding, a google apps email inclsion (CNAME) and wont flood my site with pop ups

what are the pricing rates of vbulletin? How many members do you have on your site and how many do you predict would be there by the start of 2010? I'd be willing to assist you in financially if we could break-even by 2011 via donations or whatever.
well the forum is still young we have 303 or so members
i predict to have to have 400 to 450
as for donations ive not recieved anything since it began
vbulletin is roughly
160 $
well if you click on my website in my sig you can see my forum that i host. it is called simple machines forum. i am sure that vbulletin is much better but simple machines forum is free.
well ive got a free foum it invision power board 1.4 final
it just the domain i need
You should really slow down and wait to get some more members. Once your somewhere in the 10,000 then you should get a VB.
well ppl thx for omments but i have solution
have domain and working on vbull thanks to quicksite
also forumer doesnt let me have db so i already hv 300+ members to add manually so 10000 isnt practical
jayjay, you you really check out IPB Boards too, there not as expensive as a vbulletin, That is, if you buy a REGISTERED board. But other than that, good luck.
im using the free version of IPB from forumer.com at the moment
but ive finally got iy sorted im going back to phpbb since im fimiliar with it and then i can keep cabs on the websirte natively
with the fre version iof IPB will not do
For all those of you waiting for the official Facebook app and who haven't yet taken the leap and purchased the Bloo - Native Facebook App, heads up!
Starting tomorrow, Monday August 10th, through Tuesday August 11th, you can download Bloo for...absolutely nothing.
That's right, for...free!
According to its author, Bloo has gained over 6000 users since its first release, and because of that, he's promoting the application and giving it away free for 48 hours!
Now, if you're like me and you paid for it already, please don't complain. If you really don't have $1.49 to spare after paying your phone bill, then send a message to Dimitris. Otherwise, be happy that Bloo is gaining so much momentum, and that this promotion should draw in even more users.
As of today, Bloo 1.3.2's future feature list includes the following features:
Stream Facebook Filtering: You have been waiting for this. The ability to filter your posts based on your Facebook filters.
Expanded Stream: Show all posts even from other applications (such as the mighty Quiz app everyone wants!). Of course, for those who love (including me) the simpler stream there will be an option.
Notification links: Ability to click on a notification to take you where it is supposed to take you.
Gallery sharing: Instantly upload a photo from your Gallery.
So grab it tomorrow or Tuesday for free, and get in on the most beautiful native Facebook app for Android!
Check out more info on Bloo's website at http://fbandroid.wordpress.com/.

In order to receive this device, you must click through to this site, read the terms and conditions of the offer and fill out the registration form to give us your current mailing address so that we can ship your device.
You will receive either a Verizon Droid by Motorola or a Nexus One. Developers with mailing addresses in the US will receive either a Droid or Nexus one, based on random distribution. Developers from Canada, EU, and the EEA states (Norway, Lichtenstein), Switzerland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore will receive a Nexus One. The page it links to is (link changed just in case). I like the way it's on Google Sites instead of a real Google webpage, and the registration form is just an inlay of Google Docs with some info. Not sure I can see a point in this one, since it doesn't ask for any critical information except address & phone number, but pretty funny none the less lol.
EDIT: Also, by the way, I am a developer on the market with an app that meets the criteria, so it is targeted at the right person, but I just think it seems fake lol.
EDIT 2: AndroidAndMe is reporting it, it appears to be legit.

and just for the record, google has used google docs before for forms.

Thats what I was wondering too. I figure I'll wait and see if I see anything else about it, the requirements are pretty lax, so I figure quite a few people got it. I'll see what people say and if it turns out real I'm all for it lol.
Well it sounds kind of "too good to be true" and when it does it usually is.
However, check the mail headers. The sending server is one known to be used for Google mass mailings. Check for example
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/AdSense/thread?tid=127d121c2bc9d7a1&hl=en
It also seems like all the IP's involved checks out (ie are real Google IP's)
I got one of these mails as well and I do qualify. Sure hope it's legit.

Thats what I thought. What throws me off is it being on a Google Site instead of a real Google hosted page. I filled it out, since there is no personal info required really, and I hope its legit, but I don't hold high hope lol
The headers seem to be legit, and Google has used Google Sites before (the Wave Developer preview signup was through a Google Site). Unless someone hacked Google servers to send people emails just to steal peoples' addresses, order numbers (quite useless), and phone numbers.
Update: I see a lot of people think this offer is too good to be true and have concerns of a phishing scam. I’ve reached out to my contact at Google and will post a response if I get one. From what I can tell, the email appeared to be legit.
Update 2: Roman Nurik, Android Developer Relations for Google, states that this is real on the official Android Developers Google Group.
Update 3: I received a second confirmation from an official Google spokesperson.
“A thriving developer community is an important part of creating a better mobile experience for users around the world. We hope that offering devices to developers will make it easier for them to create and test great applications. This is inline with other efforts to support developers, which also includes our Android Developer Labs World Tour and our upcoming participation at the Game Developers Conference.”
