my question is can anyone recoment a free doamin name service the supports url forwarding, a google apps email inclsion (CNAME) and wont flood my site with pop ups
NB
This is not a request for money or finacial help. its not spam as im not advertising or offering a service

what are the pricing rates of vbulletin? How many members do you have on your site and how many do you predict would be there by the start of 2010? I'd be willing to assist you in financially if we could break-even by 2011 via donations or whatever.

well the forum is still young we have 303 or so members
i predict to have to have 400 to 450
as for donations ive not recieved anything since it began
vbulletin is roughly
160 $

well if you click on my website in my sig you can see my forum that i host. it is called simple machines forum. i am sure that vbulletin is much better but simple machines forum is free.

well ive got a free foum it invision power board 1.4 final
it just the domain i need

You should really slow down and wait to get some more members. Once your somewhere in the 10,000 then you should get a VB.

well ppl thx for omments but i have solution
have domain and working on vbull thanks to quicksite
also forumer doesnt let me have db so i already hv 300+ members to add manually so 10000 isnt practical

jayjay, you you really check out IPB Boards too, there not as expensive as a vbulletin, That is, if you buy a REGISTERED board. But other than that, good luck.

im using the free version of IPB from forumer.com at the moment
but ive finally got iy sorted im going back to phpbb since im fimiliar with it and then i can keep cabs on the websirte natively
with the fre version iof IPB will not do

It seems like we have our site OWNER...
It did a whois serch.. followed by a high level telephone# search and got address and company associated with the exact telephone number as stated above in www.000webhost.com whois info.
I don't know but from the entire database of that single phone number thedomain is hidden behind the PROXI....this may be a deliberate deed to "not get caught"... or something elas...who knows...
The amazing part is that some people actually said they got paid for their referrals...one guy got $330 from them... so he said... and allot of other people had and are great full for success and their "great" service ...it FREE right..TOTALLY FREE thats why they don't offer upgrades and so on... it like having free online storage.
BUT ITHINK THIS IS A SCAM... so be ware guys...!!!! better to PAY or use freeservers ad supported.pages... a great hosting company is www.dot5host.com

I also am using 000webhost.com
but i am keen about security... whle doing intense investigation i found out that the EXACT "website whois" of this hosting server belonged also to a number of sites of which one was LABELED SCAM... because they steal passwords adn user info and sell these.. stuff or send you SPAM.
You have to admit its not worth it...

Exchange 2007 pushmail accounts

Hello all, I really debated on where to post this..I havent been too active for awhile on the forums, been busy, but I imagine I'll be snagging a Kaiser sometime coming up, so I suppose I'll stick it here.
I am offering Exchange 2007 pushmail accounts, with Outlook Web Access, and alias's, you can find more details, and pricing at http://gfyinc.org
My value plan monthly price is $4.00, or $44.00 for a year, but if you have donated to XDA Developers(as in star by your name) I will provide you with details to sign up for $3.00 a month, or $32.00 a year, or a $1.00 off any of the larger plans listed.
I am in no way trying to affiliate myself with XDA by offering the discount, and Im not setting a very good example by not having donated yet, I just know I or a lot of us wouldnt be here without this place, and want to encourage donations, I would rather you donate here, and receive the dollar a month discount.
Less than you pay for a cheeseburger and fires, and you get a whole month of instant html email sweetness.
P.M. me for details. sorry to kinda spam you, and thank you.

Like its says in my FAQ, if youre less that 15 days into the 30 day billing period, and unsatisfied, I will return your payment.
I do still have a couple upgrades I would like to put in place within the next month, but I really hate to spend too much more, when Im not really seeing that much interest from the get go, but if you want a month for free to check it out, let me know, I would appreciate any business.

Thanks for your input, after dumping a few grand into building redundant servers, and taking the time to set it all up, not to mention the stress, I really like to have some really nice person chime in and tell me and others its free elsewhere, its hard enough being the small guy and trying to compete in a world of giants.

Rather than complaining surely the best response would of been why your service is better than mail2web's? For example...
$4 a month gets you a mail alias. At M2W it's $4.95 a month.
Does your service included access using Outlook on a PC?

pocketpcaddict.com spam overrun

Hi All!
Over the past few months pocketpcaddict.com has been overrun by driver-ant-spam, and the admins seem to have gone dark.
Does anyone have *any* other personal contact info for the site admins other than what's publicly available?
I follow only one forum there and get the daily summary email. One worst day there were *900* posts to that *one* forum. Other days that week there were 200, 400, 600, whatever-hundred. (The past week or so has been a lot lighter; maybe the spammers figured out that readers of a pocketpc site aren't really looking for a pharmacy. LOL!)
About a month ago I wrote to the sites email addresses, contact form page on the site, and domain registrars 'proxy'/private email addresses, about three times each, offering time to help clean things up. No response/reply, and no errors/bounces either.
Over the past week or so I spoke with domain registrar, site host, ICANN, and even google and at&t as they have vested interests. The upshot was that because of the *private* domain registration there is absolutely *no* way to directly contact the admins. (Which I can understand an accept at face value, and though there really oughta be some sort of 'panic button' contact method but that's a totally unrelated topic.)
Digging further I fould a couple of 'higher end' site -participants-, but they had no info about contact with the current admins.
Worst case, I actually half-thought about cracking the site with force and just getting the job done. I'm the kinda person who doesn't sit around and wait for ppl to do things I just *do* it. LOL! Buuuut I decided against that because I could get in faaaar more trouble that it's worth. I also have no experience with anything like that and don't have the time or interest to muck around with it.
So again the question is does anyone have *any* other personal contact info about the pocketpcaddict.com site admins?
Thanks much. Have a day!
Jim

Third party site SELLING paid apps

androidplayground (link removed to comply with forum rules, google and take the first result, it's the ****hole in question)
This actually disgusts me.
I won't lie, I'm pro-piracy, and don't mind sites that host apps for free download, but profiting off someone else's work is frankly, sickening.
They do have a contact page, why not let them know how much you appreciate your hard work being stolen?
Looks pretty shady anyway, I'd much rather use the Android Market.
I agree. Charging people do get software you stole is worse than stealing it in the first place IMO.
I feel like I just took a trip back to a 1997 Geocities website
this is pretty much a site that leads to warez and shouldnt be posted. i am just saying.

And changed.
It's being hosted by hostedsolutions, their contact info is here:
http://www.hostedsolutions.com/contact/
I'm sure they'd like to know what's on their servers.
Wow that's ballsy.
They even link back to the xda forums for formatting and rooting info.
And Dev's they are taking paypal payments. File a complaint with Paypal too.
They used a privacy company to hide who they are.
And then they used Tucows address as their domain registration address?
The whois phone number rings to a looped recording telling you to go to the privacy companies website. Which does not seem to work.
To bad these A$$munchs didn't also make the stupid Android7 Flash Player. We could have killed 2 birds with one stone.
If the site ever starts 'offering' SetCPU, I will do whatever is in my legal power to take them down. I can't do anything about those Chinese or Russian websites, but if it's hosted in the USA, they're going down.

Piracy is piracy. Don't think somehow a for-free piracy distribution site is any more justified than a paid one. If anything, for-free distribution sites hurt developers more than paid sites: which one do you think attracts more pirates? (Note: Don't somehow come to the twisted conclusion that I support piracy of any kind; I don't.)
The difference between the two jashsu is that there is a large contingent of the "try before you buy" type of pirates out there. They'll get a warez version of an app, and if they like it, they'll often uninstall it and pay for the market version. However, if they pay for it through a third party website, the original developer never sees that profit.
Thats not to say I support piracy, because I dont. I fully believe that people should be compensated for hard work. I'm more than willing to pay for an app up front, and if it sucks, the dev will find out by reading the refund notice when i uninstall it within 24 hours.

Please show me some numbers. To get the ball rolling, i'll post a link.
http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2...-more-serious-than-first-though-on-iphone.ars
"The numbers that developers might find most interesting are the ones that show "conversion rates" from "lite" versions to full. Only one out of every 14 average users tends to purchase the paid version of an app after using the lite version, which is just under 7.5 percent. For pirates, the conversion rate is less than half a percent, or one out of every 233."
I download apps. If I like 'em, I pay for them. I'll usually go for a "lite" version if one exists. Anyway, rather than have this thread derailed into a debate about piracy, can we get back to the topic at hand?
I've notified the host, lets see if that does anything.
Sigh. Nothing like a little bit of piracy to set a forum on fire. Doesn't matter what forum you're visiting, could be a forum for food - and the first mention of piracy is bound to bring up what I like to call the forum nazis. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and no amount of gestapo trolling will change that. I find it interesting that people break various laws of various countries / cities / states daily and of course, it's overlooked. Someone makes mention of piracy and all of a sudden you've got the ePolice regime banging on your every post as if it were going to change something. What's my point? None, really. (But there again, there's also no point in bashing piracy, it's not going to make it any less existent.)

I hope you don't think that I assumed my post would change ThrashWolf's perception on piracy. I was merely pointing out how humorously sad this statement is:

I mean.. maybe i'm the only one who finds that just a bit hypocritical? I would have been completely okay if he/she just said "hey dudes, theres a paid piracy site, lets get it shut down" or "I like piracy". But to go and say "I am a pirate, but these other pirates disgust me".. idk.. maybe it's just me, but that's just ridiculous.
Then again what do I know?
Also they spam the android market with there links so make sure if you see it report it as spam.
Doesn't anyone pay for their apps anymore ...
I'll admit it, I pirate apps too, but only to either try it or if I have no other way to even purchase the application.
The thing is, being a high-schooler, I have a cheap, prepaid credit card that only allows transactions in USD. Many apps aren't available in the Market in currency other than Euros or Pounds so I have no other choice to use the apps than to pirate them.
This kind of behavior where people are selling pirated copies instead of just making it available for people who otherwise can't even buy them is really annoying though... anybody thought of a way to get them shut down?
I'm honestly debating to pay for a membership and email every dev that has an app on their. The other known site I've already found 6 apps from me on their and they were removed. But since this place charges just to get a peak I'm very tempted to pay and make sure every company knows and can write C&D's to them and the host.
Piracy is always going to be an issue. Always. I have pirated apps before, usually to test out an app update I have already downloaded and refunded from the marketplace. If the update fixes things I had issues with, I will buy it. If not, then I delete it. I have bought and kept 21 apps from the marketplace so far. I believe my use of pirated apps is fair.
I am not trying to justify piracy, but merely stating it is a great tool for me. I am aware that a lot of people pirate apps just so they don't have to pay for them. I believe that is wrong. However when comparing those who distribute an app for free to those that charge for an app that is not theirs, I believe that the one who distributes for free is the lesser of the two evils. The one who distributes for free is going to reach out to more of the potential market yes, but the scumbags who actually charge for apps that someone worked hard on are the true thieves IMO. They affect a lesser share of the potential market, but keep in mind their "share" is willing to make a purchase in the first place, while the freeloaders "share" is questionable in that department.
Just my 2 cents.

The Story of Steve (aka the DJ_Steve needs Donations thread)

Here is our little sob story.
DJ_Steve is a well known developer for not just the Streak 7, but also the Toshiba Thrive and Streak 5. About 7 months ago, he asked me to join up with him in development of ICS for the Dell Streak 7. Naturally I accepted to learn from a great dev.
In the past 4 months Steve has gone dark . After talking with him, it turns out he is having financial problems. He has been working double shifts at his job, left his apartment and moved in with his girlfriend, sold his Subaru, sold several tablets, computers, and other personal belongings in an attempt to get himself on the right track. Things are improving in his life, but he needs help with one other bill.
The server.
The server is a Core-i7 with 16GB of RAM with SSD drives. It lets us build a complete version of Android 4.0.3 in 40 minutes. It has all the things we need to build for all three devices plus experiment on other things, like kernel development and new devices that could lead to better things for our devices.
Current cost is $59.95 USD a month to pay for this server. We are looking for help paying for this. At the bottom of this thread will be two different donation links.
One is his USD/GB donation if you want to donate in small or big portions.
The other link is to pay a month of the bill itself, directly to the host of the server.
I am not asking anything I wouldn't do myself, as I will be paying for a month of the server myself.
I am asking for at least 6 months worth of donations (5 after I pay for a month), so a total of $300 is needed. This should be enough to get him through a tough time without the worry of another bill to stress about.
With the help from this, we can get Steve back on track and get him back to developing.
Pay for the Server directly: (removed because its a one-time only link)
Give donations to Steve:
GBP Donate | USD Donate
And Steve wants to add this:
"thanks folks now you know the reason i been so quiet lately i havent had the time to do anything due to this , if anyone did pay via the direct payment server link let me know the paypal transaction id(s) and i can pass the info to my server company to make sure it get credited correctly "
How is this going so far? Any response?
Regards,
Hans
We had one user on TabletRoms.com say he paid for a month of service, so its a great start
Since the sever donate link is gone, I just sent $60(6NG74443LG717281V) directly to Steve. Hope this helps out.
Made a donation. Best of luck Steve.

Donated $60 to Steve.
Thank you so much, guys, I know Steve really appreciates it.
Will donate as soon as I have some more funds myself. Currently balancing a bunch of bills and rent that all came in at the same time this month.
Will donate once I have the money for sure though.
I put in 60 bones, since I couldn't find the "pay for server" option. Steve good luck dude, can't wait to see what you guys come out with next!

The link for direct pay to the server was taken down because it was a one-time-only link.
Maybe Dell should be hiring Steve....
Wish you luck! You are a very talented developer.
As soon as I get some funds I will throw a few bones his way. May not be much.but every little bit helps. If it wasn't for you guys development for this device would be dead. So it is greatly appreciated and anything I can do to help I will.
just sent him $60 ... hope to see him back in action soon
If he went to work for dell, he'd have to learn how to speak indian!
I'm curious what the total of donations has come to? Seems it should be close to if not past a 6 month cost of the server ($300?)
I get a bonus from work on Friday and want an update about the closeness of development continuing as I plan to contribute and will be using the same bonus to have my dell dock installed in me car. My streak will be sooo much better as a dash head unit running the latest and greatest, the current beta4 has caused me to hold off on the car install.
Thanks

Not to run too far off topic but I don't know how many times I have considered doing this with a 5 or 7 inch device. Wire the audio out to an amplifier and then out to the car speakers. Possibly use USB host to add a flashdrive or HDD for extra music storage.
Good luck! Should be a fun project
