The Story of Steve (aka the DJ_Steve needs Donations thread) - Dell Streak 7

Here is our little sob story.
DJ_Steve is a well known developer for not just the Streak 7, but also the Toshiba Thrive and Streak 5. About 7 months ago, he asked me to join up with him in development of ICS for the Dell Streak 7. Naturally I accepted to learn from a great dev.
In the past 4 months Steve has gone dark . After talking with him, it turns out he is having financial problems. He has been working double shifts at his job, left his apartment and moved in with his girlfriend, sold his Subaru, sold several tablets, computers, and other personal belongings in an attempt to get himself on the right track. Things are improving in his life, but he needs help with one other bill.
The server.
The server is a Core-i7 with 16GB of RAM with SSD drives. It lets us build a complete version of Android 4.0.3 in 40 minutes. It has all the things we need to build for all three devices plus experiment on other things, like kernel development and new devices that could lead to better things for our devices.
Current cost is $59.95 USD a month to pay for this server. We are looking for help paying for this. At the bottom of this thread will be two different donation links.
One is his USD/GB donation if you want to donate in small or big portions.
The other link is to pay a month of the bill itself, directly to the host of the server.
I am not asking anything I wouldn't do myself, as I will be paying for a month of the server myself.
I am asking for at least 6 months worth of donations (5 after I pay for a month), so a total of $300 is needed. This should be enough to get him through a tough time without the worry of another bill to stress about.
With the help from this, we can get Steve back on track and get him back to developing.
Pay for the Server directly: (removed because its a one-time only link)
Give donations to Steve:
GBP Donate | USD Donate

And Steve wants to add this:
"thanks folks now you know the reason i been so quiet lately i havent had the time to do anything due to this , if anyone did pay via the direct payment server link let me know the paypal transaction id(s) and i can pass the info to my server company to make sure it get credited correctly "

How is this going so far? Any response?
Regards,
Hans

We had one user on TabletRoms.com say he paid for a month of service, so its a great start

Since the sever donate link is gone, I just sent $60(6NG74443LG717281V) directly to Steve. Hope this helps out.

Made a donation. Best of luck Steve.
Sent from my VS910 4G using xda premium

Donated $60 to Steve.

Thank you so much, guys, I know Steve really appreciates it.

Will donate as soon as I have some more funds myself. Currently balancing a bunch of bills and rent that all came in at the same time this month.
Will donate once I have the money for sure though.

I put in 60 bones, since I couldn't find the "pay for server" option. Steve good luck dude, can't wait to see what you guys come out with next!

The link for direct pay to the server was taken down because it was a one-time-only link.

Maybe Dell should be hiring Steve....
Wish you luck! You are a very talented developer.

As soon as I get some funds I will throw a few bones his way. May not be much.but every little bit helps. If it wasn't for you guys development for this device would be dead. So it is greatly appreciated and anything I can do to help I will.

just sent him $60 ... hope to see him back in action soon

If he went to work for dell, he'd have to learn how to speak indian!

I'm curious what the total of donations has come to? Seems it should be close to if not past a 6 month cost of the server ($300?)
I get a bonus from work on Friday and want an update about the closeness of development continuing as I plan to contribute and will be using the same bonus to have my dell dock installed in me car. My streak will be sooo much better as a dash head unit running the latest and greatest, the current beta4 has caused me to hold off on the car install.
Thanks

Not to run too far off topic but I don't know how many times I have considered doing this with a 5 or 7 inch device. Wire the audio out to an amplifier and then out to the car speakers. Possibly use USB host to add a flashdrive or HDD for extra music storage.
Good luck! Should be a fun project

I sent a message to Steve to see how much he got

Donation fund for P1tater

NO MORE DONATIONS NEEDED
Phone purchased from leoiden
We all know how much P1tater has helped and contributed to this community. I thought it might be a good thing if we all chipped and showed him some support after all the help and support he has provided. He unfortunately had an accident and his phone ended up destroyed. How about we all chip in a little and get him a refurbished phone? What do you guys think???
I will be accepting the money on P1tater's behalf. Whatever you guys can chip in would be greatly appreciated.
$320 US Dollars donated as of May 5th, 2008 9:00pm PST.

i know its not much but i just donated $20. he's never personally helped me, but i certainly do appreciate what he does for this community
EDIT:
oh wait, i have downloaded from his 4shared folder......so there you go, thanks for that tater
Nice work guy's we are already up to $75
Can you outline what he has done for the community? I am up for donating by all means.
However, I don't believe I've ever used any of his ROM's, and I don't know what other contributions he's done. Has he made tools for use to developers and such?
Sell me with the points and things he's been credited for and I'll definitely donate. Just curious for what he's known for here. ;-)

P1 has done a lot for this forum including support a lot of people that needed help. Aside from that I am sure he has helped many cooks testing their work before they published it to this forum. He has done beta testing for ROMS that you might have used in the past or might be running now. I see him as one fo the key people that keeps information moving in this forum. Those are just my two cents.

Here are my 10$!
Pleased to help the forum.
Still no need of specific help, but doing my homework - who knows for tomorrow???
Indeed, an oiled phone lets you always make very fluid calls.....
$25 sent just a minute ago. Don't ask about the email address... it's left over from my days of running a Video Game Emulation site...
hi,
Ok, donation made, you can add another 15$
This way he can buy a brand new castrol... ops, i mean another kaiser...
glad to helt such a great member of this community.

ohhh myyyy gooood, you have got to be kidding me, the man dropped his phone in oil, if you want to donate then do so, if not don't, p1tater has a BIG reputation, the fact that he has a FTP site for everyone to use was well worth the donation i made. you can find all kinds of cool FREE software to download for FREE. If thats not justification for a donation i don't know what is. Also if you had dropped your phone in oil and helped a bunch of people on here wouldn't you hope that others would donate. Just for the fact of being able get him a new device so he can help beta test to make the programs you download work properly. you should be ashamed of even righting what you did.
For Tater I'll throw in $40.
Tater is the bomb.

Nobody need to sell you the idea because this is a DONATION.
Engrish is my 2nd language but I do understand the meaning and spirit of the word. If you dont , please look up in the dictionary.
Extra money in the pot is good , but there is no one come after your ass for this donation. If you care, thanks for your support. If you dont, mind your own business mate.
Can you sell me your idea of writing your post ? maybe penis envy or small man complex. You aint losing no money so drink your anger management pill and relax. Or just spend that extra money on some grass and call it a day.
important factor: P1tater himself did not ask for any donation. We doing it not for benefit nor fame , not even to prove that my pocket is deeper than yours. We do it cuz he is our fellas in the XDA care bear club.
Beside working on a new cheap Tilt, I guess $20 would help a bit. Its few weeks until my next pay check , but hey, p1tater may slit his wrist with his V3 by then .
He has not directly help me anything ,but I looted his cab here and there . and we all should not ignore the fact that his ****ty attitude keeps stupid post away !!!

p.s. we just need to make sure he does not end up dropping this one while working on his hot rod again ...
I'm kickin' in $5 just for all the times I've shot Red Bull out of my nose from reading his flames.
Sorry I can't give more, but they upped the rate on my truck insurance because I manage a business that does delivery in OTHER LOCATIONS!!!

Haykuro Donation App - Your oppinions needed.

NOTE TO MODS: I know you may consider this thread missplaced, It was posted here for greater exposure. If you feel it should be moved them I am sorry for taking up your time.
A while back someone suggested a Haykuro Donation App for the market and as I have finally got my dev setup up and running under Windows 7 and I have the nessicary dev account with Google I bashed out a quick App and have the aproval of the man himself to put it up.
The app itself is a simple thing, just a thank you message with a link to Hykuro's paypal account. My problem is with pricing, I know that many here are young, not working or otherwise short of cash so did not want to make it too expensive. On the other hand, I want this to raise as much money as possible for Haykuro.
My idea was a Gold,Silver and Bronze version priced at $10,$5 and $2 respectively, that way people could pay what they can afford up front and everyone would still be able to donate via the paypal link.
So, what do you think? I probably won't have time to put this on the market till the weekend so will follow the voting till then

Guys, I would appreciate if you posted something when you voted, just to keep this thread bumped.
I think haykuro will not do that . Donate application is really suck. If I want to donate him, just send $100 to his paypal.

If I may quote from his last PM to me
"that all sounds great, but i don't have a google account to publish to market
besides that, the way you wish to roll out is up to you. by the fans, for the fans. i do this for the community, as well as myself, so the money is just a bonus"
Haykuro himself is not bothered about the money, but I want to offer another avenue for people to donate to him.
Can people who are selecting Other please put their suggestion/reason in a post or I will have no idea what you want.
The 2, 5, and 10 sounds pretty fair to me, if there's some of you who wish to contribute more then just hit his donate link. Otherwise this would be awsome, I to have been waiting for an app of this sort to show my gratitude to the big guy..."Haykuro" ......Thanks Baldyman.

And thank you, seems like you have really understood what I am trying to do here. Also, I think it may be you who first suggested the App.
No offense BaldyMan, but if Haykuro doesn't have the ability to put the app up with a google account, then the 2, 5 and 10 would go to you since you would upload it, correct? Now I'm sure you're probably a good person and would give it to Haykuro, but I personally think the app should be coded so as to donate to his paypal account directly. I don't know if that's even possible, but I'm not a programmer. Basically, I think the app should be free, and you can pay haykuro directly when using it.
Just my 2 cents.

No offense taken, I currently have this poll running both here and Androidcommunity and am beggining to see the free with link as the best solution, Maybe if I release the Gold,SIlver,Bronze & a free version it will cover all bases.

Good thinking. I'm glad you didn't take offense, I'm just super paranoid. If I could hand-deliver a donation to haykuro, that'd be the best way to go for me.
Well it's been about a day since I put this up, from comments here and on Android community I have come to the following conclusions.
1. The majority are in favor of the gold/Silver/bronze option.
2. A number of people do not trust me to hand over the money to Haykuro.
3. A number of people don't like the fact that Google/T-mobile get a 30% cut.
My current thinking is to release the Gold/Silver/Bronze option at $10/$5/$2 as previously stated and also a free version. Since all versions will be identical except for the name and I will link to Haykuro's paypal in the market desciption for all of the paid apps this should please all Parties.
Please believe me that my only intention in doing this is to open another channel for donations to Haykuro, not to rip anyone off.
Just to let you all know these Apps are now on the market.
i just bought the gold edition. too bad it uses the browser to submit the donation. it would be nicer if you integrated paypal into it. imo.
I think it's a great idea, but I think a better way to go about it is to build an app similar to the JF Updater and let that have a donate button in it.
That way those who really enjoy his work also get the benefit of automatic notifications of updates.
Maybe too involved, but maybe not. Your thoughts?
I think there should be one app in the market and thats the free one. I think charging for this is a mistake. I'm sure most if not all people who have his builds also have his blog bookmarked so there really isn't a need for this whatsoever. I will use his donate link on his blog if i want to donate to him. All the money then goes directly to him.
i use jf builds and haykuro builds and other donation dev apps. it would be easy to download to any of them from one app. just an idea

NovaPorts.org Nook Color Tear down status

Update Jan 6 2011: First photos from teardown posted at http://gallery.novaports.org. First results: The standard WL1271's antenna switch support chip is installed and fully wired, the teething pain problems that the programmers are having with bluetooth are not hardware related.
Update Jan 3 2011. Teardown unit has arrived. Results will come out over the next several weeks, with the first appearing sometime Tues, 4 Jan 2011.
Please follow the progress of the Nook Color destructive teardown at: http://www.novaports.org/wiki/NookColor_Salting
After more than a week of frustration, NovaPorts self funded this teardown along with a seed gift from WebOS-Internals.
Information will be posted to the Novaports.org wiki as it is developed over the next several weeks. This is a complex and non-trivial process, and a full analysis will take time. We'll post what we know as we know it.
Beginning as early as Tuesday, we expect to begin to have information as to the results of the tear down.
Eventually we will know if Bluetooth is enabled in hardware, FM radio access, jtag access, the details of what's going on with the weird USB cable, and more.
This will involve removing every shield over every chip, heating and un-soldering the chips from the board, x-raying the board taking high resolution photos, and tracing internal circuits using a tone generator.
Anyone wishing to contribute to that process can use the donation button on that page.
Additionally Novaports.org is planning on additional ports of Optware for Android. Details of that are also on the page.
While we're not officially announcing any other projects quite yet, you might think about the group name and consider what ELSE we might be doing with the Nook Color.
Great work. Keep it up.

Thank you NovaPorts! I assume that all of the findings will be made public knowledge, seeing that you hosting your own wiki.
I was gonna donate to the CM fund, but if Ya'll are gonna make public your findings, that could help the CM efforts as well.
So now I think I'll split the donation between the two.
I would encourage others to donate as well!
Gotta love the Linux community!
The teardown unit arrived 3 jan 2011 (Monday )
First results tommorow but expect the entire project to take several weeks. Tues Jan 4's results are unlikely to be much more than closeup photos of the board without chips.
Follow us on the wiki
Hope we can get some bluetooth love...Keep up the good work fellas
Yes with Bluetooth the Nook would the ultimate cheap tablet!

This is not accurate. Please refrain from spreading rumors.
edit:
DroidTh3ory changed his twitter handle to @KillDroidHack
DroidHive is no longer DroidHive, the main contributors have set up at least 2 new sites, one of which is Rombot.org (krackflashers.org)
Donations are donations; if you appreciate the work that someone has put into a ROM, or an app, or a website, then donate. Donations are not a service agreement. If you like a site, and then donate, but the site operator decides he can lo longer support the site, this is not 'skipping off with the donations'. The developers on DroidHive, and many other android developer sites have jobs, families, and other obligations that sometimes cause their hobby of developing for Android to take a backseat.

At least what I posted is what has been said by some of the staff on Twitter and in the chat part of the Hive, if it's inaccurate maybe you can tell us why:
1. It has been operating under http://krackflashers.com,
2. The domain is up for sale @ godaddy.com?
3. The forums are offline?
4. The DNS as well as displayed sight names have been changing daily?
5. DroidTh3ory was the site owner, is that correct? what happened to his twitter account and why has he all of a sudden gone missing from everything?
You'll admit any website displaying the above listed facts should be approached with caution.
So what's the scoop then???? If your saying it's not accurate please inform us, the Android community (especially those who have contributed money) have a right to know don't we?
KDH did not just vanish and I highly doubt donations have been stolen. Unreal.

Cool, then what's the real story with DroidHive?
under new name and look, but droidhive community is bulletproof. we take care of one another and frankly *i dont even care* what my donation was used for. it was given as a sign of gratitude.
Why do people insist on spreading crap about which they know nothing about? If you MUST know what really happened, he went on vacation with his family and all this crap happened while he was gone. And people just made up rumors based on what they assumed happened. He was very pissed when he got back as he should have been. Believe what you want but stop spreading rumors and conjecture as fact. Honestly, I never understood why people get into this kind of nonsense...

Agreed...these people spreading rumors are idiots. What does it matter what he does with the donations anyways? People donate to him because he spends his time making amazing ROMs for people, and he has made countless amount of ROM's for us people who have no clue what we are doing. So we donate to him in appreciation for what he has done for us. So he can do whatever he wants with that money. It would be different if we donated to him in anticipation for something and then he bounced, however that is not the case.

I make donations for ROM's and feel people need to support those who develop for our devices. However I wouldn't put to much trust in Droid Hive right now.
Then don't donate. Who's holding a gun to your head to do so?

The OP asked about the web site and I answered the question with what I have heard in the last few weeks. I'm not saying anyone shouldn't donate (just I wouldn't @ this time) or the site owner shouldn't do whatever with the money, Just that everyone should look at whats going on and make a informed decision based on what they feel is happening.
And Sorry, I didn't mean to quote you in post #17
I support and wish the best for everyone involved with the hive, and will continue to support it with donations if it's still around in a month or so.
It appears that rombot.org is now gone as well.

[Donation Request] Imoseyon LeanKernel on the Nexus 7 - [Current: Goal!]

I'm greatly missing my favorite kernel developer on the Nexus 7.
I recently got the go-ahead to make a thread for this purpose:
Twitter Link
Donations should be sent to this Paypal account rather than Imoseyon's default account:
Link Removed. Goal reached!
Reasoning for a separate account:
I will be managing this account until the goal ($200/250 depending upon speed of arrival) is met; where it will then be forwarded directly to Imoseyon himself with the explicit intent of his purchasing a Nexus 7. Any other donations would be considered for his current or previous work which should be used however he pleases.
Please list your donor ID in this thread or leave a note in the "Special Instructions" box so I can add you to the list of Donors below.
New Stipulation: I'll match the highest donor up to $50.
Hate me? Awesome! Donate a lot =]
Holy Bat-Bananas! Milan616 brings the heat with a $50 donation. I'll match it!
Donors:
Byrong - $20
Allen Vogl - $10
Headcheese - $20
Craig Webster - $5
Elpeterson - $10
Sparkus - $15
Milan616 - $50
Jubakuba - $50
Shenglongdong - $15
RMarkwald - $30
wigsplittenhatchet - $10
Bwanshoom - $15
Total:
$250 USD Of $250 goal.

I don't know you or him/her. Maybe you could provide links to his/her work? You seem to want donations from XDA users so bad, maybe you should provide more info other than im collecting donations for some dev on my paypal, send money now!

Imoseyon is a huge name in the Kernel business.
I provided a link to (essentially) his twitter account.
I figure that (for now) my recognized contributor tag would suffice...
Or that by browsing my guides/posts that I am trusted here.
And I don't necessarily want XDA users money. I just find it funny that a few weeks back I had a huge falling out on Rootz...fight with two admins...and lost a lot of respect for the community.
XDA has always been the more pleasant home.
When the goal is reached I plan on filming my laptop screen via On Screen Recording and via my phone (seems, in my mind, harder to manipulate) of the Accounts screen on the Paypall account so that it's well-known that no funny business is going on on my end.
Every penny will be sent directly to Imoseyon.
I actually opened a new Paypal for this reason and am not using the one linked to my bank...it's linked to a bank account that I haven't touched in years. I don't even have a card to do so if I wanted to.
I understand the concerns.
Trust me, I do.
But I can assure you they'll be alleviated.
Imoseyon only has threads and notoriety on rootzwiki... and you're surprised that donations only came from rootzwiki?
Also I believe this is very much against XDA rules. I believe on XDA donations can only be requested AFTER the fact.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Do you actually have that money or are they promises to pay?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium HD app

Sending to imoseyon as we speak.
I already sent my personal $50 (which is more than I can afford...but hey...I'm no thief!)
Nice job he is a great dev and will provide a great kernel. His lean kernels runs great on my gnex.
No funny business:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DbP6-7x5zE
I wish we could see 007 kernel on the N7.
Maybe ask the developer if you could create a thread...
You never know.
All this time; I had no idea Imoseyon had told someone "if I had the device I would develop leankernel for it" (paraphrasing).
When someone repeated this information to me...
We got him a Nexus 7 in 60 hours.
