New Replacement - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Well, my Tytn2 failed this week. Stopped making a noise. Pretty [zb] when it's used as an 'on call' phone
Anyway, so being Orange Contract I've got a new one. Arrived with WM6.1
Stuck the battery, sim and msd in and rebooted it....
I wondered why it was taking a while to boot and saw the message "Please wait while the device clears the storage".
The storage card is 4gb and contains LOTS that I don't want to loose. Gee Thanks Microsoft!

Surely this is a joke. By now you should understand that "Clear Storage" refers to doing a hard reset on the phone itself, and has nothing to do with your SD card.

Might I suggest removing your number from post #2?

Oddly enough, no. On WM6 it doesn't refer to this and I guess I panicked

Actually, WM 6.1 didn't do this automatically at first, either. Only the builds released in the last 2-3 months (i.e "the official builds") do this. If you still had a stock WM6 phone up until it died, then I can understand how you might now know this.
Regardless, don't worry about it, it's perfectly normal, and enjoy WM 6.1!

07 Mobile Number
721 Used to belong to a particular network but that's not reliable anymore. followed by a six digit number
Previously, 07721 was 0421 and I started using this number in 1997 ish.
Vodafone & Orange are the network I have frequented with that number
As for stock phone; yes. I didn't feel the need to upgrade at the time

Someone I usd to work with had the number 07*** 777 777, no kidding. no idea how he got it.

Back in 1997, my dad's cell number was 1 *** 200 0000. Pretty easy to remember since back then the US only needed to dial the last 7 digits of any phone number with the same area code.

I know a computer professional with the mobile number of 286 386 as the last 6 digits
It's nice to have an easy to remember number

Radio ROM 2.25 on FTP

Stupid question, but is that 2.25 radio ROM on the /Uploads/Wizard directory on the FTP from the Cingular ROM, or is it the T-Mo ROM? I'm curious because there are numerous reports that the Cingluar radio ROM is "better" than the T-Mo one.
Thanks!
This is definately the Cingular version (I know because I made and used it).
Replaced the link with one that Mr Paditiot (first name Stu) can't delete!!!!
does that mean I can use this for tmo as well?

Using that Rom Update will only flash the GSM (Radio Rom) to the latest Cingular issued version 2.25.11.
It should work with any carrier.
oh nice
So I can basically install any rom I wanted and then load this radio rom afterwards to get the excellent reception I was getting with 2.25?
If so I could go back to 2.3

Thanks a lot! I was looking forward to it. I flashed my phone already, but I have yet to see any positive/negative effects. Of course, just sitting down at my desk, I don't think I will see any difference
This thing is beautiful...
I left my phone connected via USB on my desk for about 5 minutes to check signal strength before and after this update. Before, I had 2 bars. I ran the update, didn't touch the phone, let it reboot, and now I'm at full bars. Outstanding.
I get reception with this radio rom update that I can't get with any other rom I've run (except 2.25 of course). 2.25 was too buggy for me too keep on my phone so I was sad when I had go back to 2.17. Then 2.3 came and I was excited b/c I thought the bugs would be gone...and they were, but so was my reception. Now I get the best of both worlds.
Updated your 8125 to this seems like a no brainer to me regardless of what rom you're running.
THANKS!!
Losing stuff?
Sorry for this if this is a dumb question.
If I run the update utility, will I loose any stuff on the phone?
Or will this only overwrite the radio rom and keep the rest of my phone intact....
I don't want to install all my apllications like it's a hard reset....
Can someone please give me the "go" to install this to my qtek 9100 rom?

Likewise, can someone please confirm this will only update the Radio ROM? The warning message for the ROM installer says that all setting will be wiped!
BTW, I found the file in the Upload folder - /upload/wizard/ROMS/Cingular_2.25.11_Radinly.zip
it wont wipe your settings, i just flashed mine last night.
Sweet! Just ran the update on mine and can confirm all settings, data apps etc remained untouched! My Radio version has now increased to 02.25.11 and Protocol increased to 4.1.13.12. All other version numbers (ROM etc) remain as they were before.
Thanks guys!!

Maybe I can get a response here... I'm on GSM 2.25.11, but I'm having an issue with dropped calls left and right whereas I had no issue on the original ROM that came with the phone. After a couple of minutes, especially when people call me the connection just drops.
I've never believed Cingular has the fewest dropped calls as they're currently advertising, but i dont believe this is their problem either.
Any ideas?

since i stopped using weather panel, i haven't had a single dropped call in about 3 months now. and i'm using cingular.

8125 Dropping Calls -- Radio ROM Upgrade?

Hello all,
I've upgraded my Cingular 8125 device to the latest official ROM from Cingular/HTC. These are my current versions:
ROM Version: 2.25.11.1 WWE
ROM Date: 5/11/06
Radio version: 02.25.11
Protocol version: 4.1.13.12
ExtROM Version: 2.25.11.102
However, I've noticed that at least once or twice a day when I'm on a phone call, my call is suddenly dropped! I have to wait a few seconds before I'm able to make calls again. My guess is that there is something funky going on with the radio version that I'm using. Is there a later (more stable) radio ROM that I could upgrade to? Notice that I have my device configured quite well and I wouldn't want to wipe it out entirely again (as I already did to upgrade to the latest 2.25.11.1 Cingular-approved ROM). Is it possible to just upgrade the radio ROM without having to wipe my device again? If so, which radio ROM should I upgrade to, and where is it available?
Thanks!
Ryan
Ignore all I wrote, was a bit uninformed
sorry
Look for the 2.47.11 Radio Rom in the Wizad FTP section.
Molski
For the life of me, I can't find that ROM on the Wizard FTP site. Could you please post the path? Thanks!
_Nomad_ said:
I'm afraid that there isn't any way to upgrade to a later radio ROM for the wizard, there are a few later versions embedded in various ROMs available at the forum though there's always a minority of ppl that do experience call dropouts now and again with all of these, so upgrading doesn'y guaranty a solution . Best bet would in my opinion still be to hard reset your device and start from scratch... Best of luck

I sure do love it when people provide real links instead of "go check this/that".
I have a question also. I am getting my new TMobile MDA from a this seller on eBay
I want to know what I should do first? Do I need to CID unlock, Registry unlock. If so, how and in what order. I plan to use a T-Mobile SIM card so I probably don't need SIM unlock at least for now unless it is required to do some of the apparently needed OS and radio ROM modifications. I got the radio ROM you provided, so I assume I will need that.

From what I gather on here, you'll need to use a CID unlock, but only if you plan on putting an unbranded or custom ROM on your MDA...otherwise it will work find out of the box. Keep in mind that not having any restrictions (CID / Registry) is always preferred

I have the exact same setup, with no customizations on my 8125 and am having a terrible time with calls dropping. Did you find the radio ROM upgrade and did it work?
Thanks.
its already been solved in another thread. apparently its the data connection trying to activate 4 min into a call and dropping the call. the fix is a reg change so that data knows to remain suspended.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=995659&postcount=272
How to?
Well I downloaded the radio ROM but I have no idea what to do next. I searched the site for how to install the update but came up empty.
Any information on how to install the new radio ROM would be appreciated.
As for the registry edit for data connection I am not sure that this is the solution as the calls drop at random intervals, not 4 minutes. I don't have anything (that I know of) which would be trying to create a data connection anyway.
For the registry edit I would need Total Commander correct? Is it really safe for a Noob like myself to make these changes? I can program a vcr but I once deleted part of my operating system in an attempt to get more disk space on my computer. Now I know better but not a lot better.
Thanks

Thank you. Looks like exactly what I need. There wasn't the 2.47.11 radio rom in the list there but I will go through those steps to reinstall the ROM that I have and see what I can learn.
I installed the 2.47.11 radio ROM and calls kept dropping. I called Cingular and they assured me it must be the device so they are sending out my 4th 8125. I complained and made a nuisance of myself so they are sending me a free 8525 in addition to the 8125 I have. in the meantime I went to the Cingular store for a loaner so I wouldn't be dropping calls all the time. Even the nokia loaner was dropping all the calls, switched to my unlocked nokia 6820, still drops. Must be the network and not the device.

That is the Bootloader screen and you should be there. I would have sent you to the wiki, but it is not working currently. If you are updating to another WM2003 ROM then run the file you downloaded now, if you are updating to WM5 or 6 or 6.1 then run the MA_Upgrade file now.

I honestly have no idea what that file you have is. Go here and follow the steps to upgrade to WM6:

For the phone not working soft-reset. Some say you need to soft-reset twice, but I have never had to. There is a flaw in WM6 that when you disconnect the battery then connect and boot it fails to load the phone module. After booting a soft-reset will load it no problem.
For the wi-fi issue. Goto CommManager and click settings (in the lower right) and then click WLAN settings. Click turn on WLAN. This step loads the wi-fi driver. Now go to CommManager and click on wi-fi and it will work. This step must be done after EVERY reset/boot. But it only must be done once. after that you can turn on and off the wi-fi using only the CommManager as much as you like.
Glad to hear you got WM6.1 loaded and everything though.

Bloatware in ATT Windows 6.1 ROM

I have installed
ROM version: 3.57.502.2 WWE
ROM date: 07/17/08
Radio version 1.65.21.18
Protocol version: 25.88.40.05H
I used the recommend method to have the bloatware not install by removing the battery before customization begins but when the device restarts it resets back to the welcome screen all over again. The only way I was able to more forward was to allow the customization script to finish. Any ideas on how to prevent the customization?
You are supposed to soft reset, not rip out the battery
BTW where did you get this rom?

I've done the soft reset just seconds before "The device will customize in 3 sec". It worked for me. I don't know how, cause people saying that this doesn't work anymore on WM6.1. But you can try. This works for me.
Cheers,
Chris
I've noticed on a lot of 6.1 ROMS if you press soft reset during the customization phase it actually hard resets the phone and makes you go through the whole process again
Hm, where did you get this ROM from?

He probably got a new Tilt that is shipping with 6.1. If that's the case, I hereby order him to perform a hard reset, and then proceed to dump the ROM for all of use to enjoy.
A friend of mine got one on the 13th with 6.0 on it.
EDIT--
There is a link on ATT's site that gives me the option to download the 6.1 rom for the tilt. I can't download at work though and I'm sure it's been said somewhere that it's a haox or something but here it is.

I think this guy is bogus because the radio version an protocol version differ from the supposed specs of the new ROM. So the ROM version should be different.
Im not very ROM savvy. But I think the claim of the poster being non legit is not called for. I have seen this ROM being posted on the HTC site from many different forums. Its sortve official from what I gather, meaning something about a tester ROM(?). Ive seen several places where this ROM was able to be downloaded from HTC. Although it was removed from their site recently.

The ROM in question was never available on HTC's site. There was a page that listed it as available, but the download link pointed to the 1.62.xx.xx ROM update from February 2008.
And I also agree that the non-legit claim was uncalled for.
Perhaps if the original poster realizes that the only way he or anyone is going to get a bloat-free rom is to have a copy posted and someone strip the bloatware out. As someone mentioned, soft reseting before the 3 second timeout produces a hard reset. They must have read this web site. I am a Tilt user eagerly waiting for the release, but I will still have to wait until is is cleaned out, similar to the Almost Official III w/o Bloatware.

Latest test rom form AT&T

HIS version
ROM Version 3.57.502.2 WWE
ROM date 07/17/08
Radio version 1.65.21.18
Protocol version 25.88.40.05H
I would think that if HTC changed the radio and protocol as shown in his version. Would they not change the ROM version such as 3.58.502.2? Even more so because they have created two ROM's on the same date?
It could be possible the the information posted on the HTC web site is wrong, Maybe to possibly confuse us.
I got a brand new Tilt on Aug 21. I had 6.0 installed. I hope the update comes out Monday, but now I'm not sure. The stores here in New Orleans only have Tilts with 6.0.

I don't wish to disagree with you as you are a much more experienced user than I am, but I flashed the Almost Official III rom and repeated the process 5 times. If you soft-reset before the count down completes it does a hard reset and brings you back to the same spot as brfore and reruns the custom configuration. I tried this before the count down and during the running of the custom configuration with the same results. It is why I then loaded the stripped version. Note, I HAVE used the reset trick very successfully with WM 6.0.

It won't perform a hard reset, it just brings you back to that same screen over and over and over unless you let it go. That and hard reset are completely different.
One way i found to stop the bloatware loading is to let the customization begin, but as soon as it starts loading the first thing, do a soft reset, it won't restart it again
Not important..

You are right. It does not repeat once you start the customization, but I did find some bloatware installed. Perhaps I was not fast enough. But before, when it brings you to the same screen over and over again, it says "clearing storage." It is my understanding that the clear storage program in settings does the same as a hard reset, namely to reset to factory defaults. If they are different, then I am wrong.

Unlocking & related

Well. Last night I tried to unlock my Kaiser. Today something has broke bigtime
I followed the instructions for unlocking it from Olipro. However, I couldn't get it to go past the "SPL 1.93" on the screen or past the Tricolour. It wouldn't pass that stage and thus wouldn't go to Stage 2, and onwards. So ended up at another thread. It was the white screen one. I've managed to download and load JumpSPL1.56-KAIS and JumpSPL1.93-KAIS and once that was done return to the initial instructions and unlock the phone.
It reported all was OK but I've not got another sim to test it in. All was well today but this afternoon a call went to voicemail. When I tried to retreive it, I heard the voice then it made a buzzing noise and cut off.
A couple of soft resets later and turning the network off then on and I get part of the voicemail again, but most the time no sound at all when making/recieiving calls.
I would update to a newer rom but I don't know which one it is.
The following information I have.
Operator Version: 24.328.1.610
ROM Version: 3.28.61.0 WWE
ROM Date: 05/02/08
Radio Version: 1.70 OliNex
Protocol Version: 25.65.30.04H
Under the battery it states this is a Kais130
The options I have would be to contact the service provider and give these details to get a replacement. However, I'm worried that they will notice that the Radio Version is wrong and thus charge me lots of money. Or just complain more. If I can fix it myself I would like this option though because I do want it unlocked....
Soft resetting with the camera button in, gives me the following information:
Security Unlocked
Kais130 MFG
SPL-1.0.OliProf
CPLD-8
SERIAL (futher down).

Yeah! But which one do I choose?
Oh, well, um, I'm trying for one now. Except it might take a while. I don't have a small microsd card, only the 4gb one, so I'm copying my data off before I format it to fix what I broke
Thanks for your help
Try 1.65.16.25 it is the one that originally came with your rom.
