Bloatware in ATT Windows 6.1 ROM - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I have installed
ROM version: 3.57.502.2 WWE
ROM date: 07/17/08
Radio version 1.65.21.18
Protocol version: 25.88.40.05H
I used the recommend method to have the bloatware not install by removing the battery before customization begins but when the device restarts it resets back to the welcome screen all over again. The only way I was able to more forward was to allow the customization script to finish. Any ideas on how to prevent the customization?

You are supposed to soft reset, not rip out the battery
BTW where did you get this rom?

I've done the soft reset just seconds before "The device will customize in 3 sec". It worked for me. I don't know how, cause people saying that this doesn't work anymore on WM6.1. But you can try. This works for me.
Cheers,
Chris

I've noticed on a lot of 6.1 ROMS if you press soft reset during the customization phase it actually hard resets the phone and makes you go through the whole process again

Hm, where did you get this ROM from?

Where did you get the final release?

He probably got a new Tilt that is shipping with 6.1. If that's the case, I hereby order him to perform a hard reset, and then proceed to dump the ROM for all of use to enjoy.

A friend of mine got one on the 13th with 6.0 on it.
EDIT--
There is a link on ATT's site that gives me the option to download the 6.1 rom for the tilt. I can't download at work though and I'm sure it's been said somewhere that it's a haox or something but here it is.

I think this guy is bogus because the radio version an protocol version differ from the supposed specs of the new ROM. So the ROM version should be different.

Im not very ROM savvy. But I think the claim of the poster being non legit is not called for. I have seen this ROM being posted on the HTC site from many different forums. Its sortve official from what I gather, meaning something about a tester ROM(?). Ive seen several places where this ROM was able to be downloaded from HTC. Although it was removed from their site recently.

The ROM in question was never available on HTC's site. There was a page that listed it as available, but the download link pointed to the 1.62.xx.xx ROM update from February 2008.
And I also agree that the non-legit claim was uncalled for.

Perhaps if the original poster realizes that the only way he or anyone is going to get a bloat-free rom is to have a copy posted and someone strip the bloatware out. As someone mentioned, soft reseting before the 3 second timeout produces a hard reset. They must have read this web site. I am a Tilt user eagerly waiting for the release, but I will still have to wait until is is cleaned out, similar to the Almost Official III w/o Bloatware.

You are probably right I should not have made such a call. He indeed may have the ROM. If I may elaborate.
Latest test rom form AT&T
ROM Version 3.55.502.1 WWE
ROM date 06/10/08
Radio version 1.65.20.29
Protocol version 25.88.40.04H
Supposed ROM to be Released at HTC. Click here for link.
ROM Version 3.57.502.2 WWE
ROM date 07/17/08
Radio version 1.65.17.10
Protocol version 25.83.40.02H
HIS version
ROM Version 3.57.502.2 WWE
ROM date 07/17/08
Radio version 1.65.21.18
Protocol version 25.88.40.05H
I would think that if HTC changed the radio and protocol as shown in his version. Would they not change the ROM version such as 3.58.502.2? Even more so because they have created two ROM's on the same date?
It could be possible the the information posted on the HTC web site is wrong, Maybe to possibly confuse us.

I got a brand new Tilt on Aug 21. I had 6.0 installed. I hope the update comes out Monday, but now I'm not sure. The stores here in New Orleans only have Tilts with 6.0.

I don't wish to disagree with you as you are a much more experienced user than I am, but I flashed the Almost Official III rom and repeated the process 5 times. If you soft-reset before the count down completes it does a hard reset and brings you back to the same spot as brfore and reruns the custom configuration. I tried this before the count down and during the running of the custom configuration with the same results. It is why I then loaded the stripped version. Note, I HAVE used the reset trick very successfully with WM 6.0.

It won't perform a hard reset, it just brings you back to that same screen over and over and over unless you let it go. That and hard reset are completely different.
One way i found to stop the bloatware loading is to let the customization begin, but as soon as it starts loading the first thing, do a soft reset, it won't restart it again

Not important..

You are right. It does not repeat once you start the customization, but I did find some bloatware installed. Perhaps I was not fast enough. But before, when it brings you to the same screen over and over again, it says "clearing storage." It is my understanding that the clear storage program in settings does the same as a hard reset, namely to reset to factory defaults. If they are different, then I am wrong.

8125 Dropping Calls -- Radio ROM Upgrade?

Hello all,
I've upgraded my Cingular 8125 device to the latest official ROM from Cingular/HTC. These are my current versions:
ROM Version: 2.25.11.1 WWE
ROM Date: 5/11/06
Radio version: 02.25.11
Protocol version: 4.1.13.12
ExtROM Version: 2.25.11.102
However, I've noticed that at least once or twice a day when I'm on a phone call, my call is suddenly dropped! I have to wait a few seconds before I'm able to make calls again. My guess is that there is something funky going on with the radio version that I'm using. Is there a later (more stable) radio ROM that I could upgrade to? Notice that I have my device configured quite well and I wouldn't want to wipe it out entirely again (as I already did to upgrade to the latest 2.25.11.1 Cingular-approved ROM). Is it possible to just upgrade the radio ROM without having to wipe my device again? If so, which radio ROM should I upgrade to, and where is it available?
Thanks!
Ryan
Ignore all I wrote, was a bit uninformed
sorry
Look for the 2.47.11 Radio Rom in the Wizad FTP section.
Molski
For the life of me, I can't find that ROM on the Wizard FTP site. Could you please post the path? Thanks!
_Nomad_ said:
I'm afraid that there isn't any way to upgrade to a later radio ROM for the wizard, there are a few later versions embedded in various ROMs available at the forum though there's always a minority of ppl that do experience call dropouts now and again with all of these, so upgrading doesn'y guaranty a solution . Best bet would in my opinion still be to hard reset your device and start from scratch... Best of luck

I sure do love it when people provide real links instead of "go check this/that".
I have a question also. I am getting my new TMobile MDA from a this seller on eBay
I want to know what I should do first? Do I need to CID unlock, Registry unlock. If so, how and in what order. I plan to use a T-Mobile SIM card so I probably don't need SIM unlock at least for now unless it is required to do some of the apparently needed OS and radio ROM modifications. I got the radio ROM you provided, so I assume I will need that.

From what I gather on here, you'll need to use a CID unlock, but only if you plan on putting an unbranded or custom ROM on your MDA...otherwise it will work find out of the box. Keep in mind that not having any restrictions (CID / Registry) is always preferred

I have the exact same setup, with no customizations on my 8125 and am having a terrible time with calls dropping. Did you find the radio ROM upgrade and did it work?
Thanks.
its already been solved in another thread. apparently its the data connection trying to activate 4 min into a call and dropping the call. the fix is a reg change so that data knows to remain suspended.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=995659&postcount=272
How to?
Well I downloaded the radio ROM but I have no idea what to do next. I searched the site for how to install the update but came up empty.
Any information on how to install the new radio ROM would be appreciated.
As for the registry edit for data connection I am not sure that this is the solution as the calls drop at random intervals, not 4 minutes. I don't have anything (that I know of) which would be trying to create a data connection anyway.
For the registry edit I would need Total Commander correct? Is it really safe for a Noob like myself to make these changes? I can program a vcr but I once deleted part of my operating system in an attempt to get more disk space on my computer. Now I know better but not a lot better.
Thanks

Thank you. Looks like exactly what I need. There wasn't the 2.47.11 radio rom in the list there but I will go through those steps to reinstall the ROM that I have and see what I can learn.
I installed the 2.47.11 radio ROM and calls kept dropping. I called Cingular and they assured me it must be the device so they are sending out my 4th 8125. I complained and made a nuisance of myself so they are sending me a free 8525 in addition to the 8125 I have. in the meantime I went to the Cingular store for a loaner so I wouldn't be dropping calls all the time. Even the nokia loaner was dropping all the calls, switched to my unlocked nokia 6820, still drops. Must be the network and not the device.

How to find out my IPL/SPL

Hi guys I have a new HTC Wing phone which has some issues with the GSM radio, I was going to update the radio for my device to solve the problem but I see that it requires an SPL/IPL version equal or higher than 4
Unfortunately, the IPL/SPL version numbers are not shown when I boot this device, is there any other way to find out
Here is the info I see on the device.
ROM version 4.10.531.3 WWE
Rom date: 03/15/07
Radio version: 02.83.90
Protocol version: 4.1.13.37
ExtROM version: 4.10.531.103
One other thing I have is that I have editied the registry to be able to see the band settings, however, the band information info is blank
Thanks in advance
Also a new Wing user (got it last week), and found out my IPL/SPL yesterday
You will see IPL/SPL info in bootloader
How you get into bootloader you ask?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327046
Try the following links as well. Keep reading, as there's a "wealth" of information on this site. I don't claim I am an expert on Wing, but I've been "soaking" in this site the last few days, and I "think" I know what I want/need to do
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Herald
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369397
Hope this help
From another new Wing fellow
hey pal, yeah today I figured out I would check with the bootloader option and I could see the IPL/SPL version, did the radio update to version 8.xxx which is supposed to be the one everybody is using but still canĀ“t get signal inside my apartment, I dunno if it is a particular problem of this one I have or if it is a more general issue, maybe I will try a ROM update...
anyway, thanks again for the reply
Just flashed my wing to Open Touch 3.0 Biggy, which include a new radio: 03.07.90
If you hate TMo ROM, or wanna try something new, maybe you should look into it
I flashed it to Toich It V2 but nothing has changed regarding reception quality while a wizard I have has perfect reception, I will try to install a ruu rom image instead and see what happens, the rom i have now shows nothing under device information which is weird to say the least

HELP! Unable to SMS!

This is reallyl frustrating, have had nothing but issues with this phone..but yet like little sheep i've been following along simply because i had such a great experience with the original HTC Touch.
So now my latest problem is that i am unable to SMS - either by going into Programs>Messaging or through TFLO3D.
When i press new message or reply a blank screen comes up, almost like it's trying to load something, but then nothing happens. I can click on the input selector on the bottom right and change the various input methods and they show up just fine - however, when i type or input characters, nothing happens.
Have tried soft-resetting already - am hesitant to do a hard reset yet.
Has anyone had the same issue, and recommended fixes?
Thank You.

Thanks.
i had that for some reason for an evening, although i think it was actually t-mob uk that had the problem cos it was fine in the morning.......
Anyhoo, try this
Start
settings
connections
advanced network
SMS service tab
There is a drop down box that has four different settings:
GSM, GSM preferred, GPRS and GPRS preferred. I have noticed that some etworks like different settings to be used here. Try the three that it is not currently set to.
change to a different setting, and then turn the phone off and back on again properly (Not soft reset) just to let it hold the settings. try it for an hour or so and if it doesn't fix it, try the next one and so on.
You can also try turning unicode off, as i have heard that sometimes that can screw it up as well.
Note that none of these settings changes should stop you from receiving SMS messages.
Edit: scratch that, i really should read these things first!
it does sound odd, have you installed any third party apps that might be interfering? sadly a hard reset may be just the thing.....

HTC TYTN II Weird Behavior After Upgrade to 6.1

Hi Guys,
thanks for the good job you'all are doing. Will appreciate whatever help i can get to resolve this issue with my phone. I have the HTC TYTN II which i recently upgraded to WM 6.1 using the official ROM which i donwloaded from HTC website. Since then i have noticed that sometimes it seems my phone is dialing itself or a call is coming in. The funny part is though every other function is working i wont be able to answer this phone. It will seem to hang. Then after a while i will get the cprog.exe error. To be able to make phone calls i have to soft reset the phone. i have had to hard reset my phone twice already with no solution. Also googling has not been able to provide any answer too. I just sent an email to HTC Technical support now but with experience i doubt if i will get any useful response. So this is my last resort.
It is also pertinent to note here too that intermittently i do get the tmail.exe errors.
Hi,
I am having the same problem after the upgrade..frequently its becoming stoned! requiring restart many time during the day...which was not the case before...anybody has got any solution???
I love my TyTn II but not the 6.1 ..its not stable!

Azuka, who so ever upgraded to 6.1 from HTC experienced the same problem even i myself suffered the same. So your only solution is to downgrade to 6 but before doing that you must HardSPL your phone ...
Two words... bad flash.
Regardless of what you might hear about WM 6.1 being unstable/unusable, it's simple NOT TRUE. Head over to the Kaiser Wiki, read up on flashing HardSPL (really read), and then once you have HardSPL'd your phone, flash a different ROM.
But please do not make the mistake of asking for recommendations on which ROM to use. The ROM that works best for me probably will not work best for you, in terms of programs loaded and cosmetically.

Thanks for your reply. Your two words "Bad Flash" got me thinking. How could that be. I thought so too and had to re-download the file from htc website and re-installed.
About HardSPL'd your phone, from reading the wiki i now know what it is. But there is no instruction out there to HardSPL'd. Do i need to get the file and copy unto my phone or what?
thanks.
Head over to the Wiki, and under ROM Upgrading - Tools, I added an entry to HardSPL v3.xx. All the instructions needed are in that thread.

Thanks for your help for far. This is an update of where i am today and a few questions i need your help to answer:
I took my phone into the retialer where i bought and who serve as the service center for HTC here in Doha, Qatar. They re-installed the WM 6.1 OS and so far i dont have the issues i was having before. However i do experience momentary screen freezes which eases off after a few second. Right the device information is as follows:
ROM Version: 3.28.405.0 WWE
ROM date: 05/02/08
Radio Version: 1.65.17.56
Protocol Version: 25.83.40.02H
Going into the bootloader the i see the following information:
KAIS130
SPL-3.28.0000
CPLD-8
Which i believe confirms that the HardSPL is 3.28 - please correct me if i am wrong. Now my questions are as follows:
1. How do i resolve the momentary freezing?
2. Do i still need to do a HardSPL giving that mine is showing 3.28?
3. And your answer to do above is Yes which version do i need to do? 3.28 or 3.29 or even 3.56
Thank you once again.

I have the freezing issues too. Two things has helped me reduce the frequency (and improve general responsiveness of the device):
1. I've disabled the HTC task manager application - that helps a lot on responsiveness
2. Each time I soft reset the phone, I manually kill the mstli.exe process - that helps a lot on the freezing issues.
regards,
Spip
Just to share some experiences
So I have the TyTN II and I recently upgraded to the official HTC WM6.1.
I have none of these problems of screen freezing, unstable rom, etc etc etc...
However, I do suffer from occasional program error message and asks me quite a few times to send the report to microsoft.
But this only happens when I load certain third party softwares and then close them down.
I attribute this to compatibility issues with WM6.1...maybe I'm wrong. But that's what I think anyway.

You do not have HardSPL on your phone. You have SPL 3.28, which was flashed to your phone as part of the WM 6.1 upgrade. If you want to try out custom ROMs, you will still need to flash HardSPL 3.xx.
I recommend flashing HardSPL 3.56. It was ripped from an AT&T build, but seems to work great with all flavors of WM 6.1.
As for the freezing, it cannot be eliminated 100%. But with a good cooked ROM and the right HardSPL, you will rarely experience one.
I had this issue and it was just down to previous HardSPL being left at an early version (I think around 1.02) on the device and if you apply this latest HTC stock ROM update you get a bad flash and freezing especially in the threaded SMS app.
Install any HardSPL later than 3.00 then redo the ROM update and it should cure it.
Thanks guys. I just did the HardSPL 3.56 and re-installed the HTC official 6.1 ROM. So let's see how it goes.
Btw, HardSPL-ing is not as difficult as it seems though.
Right now the following is my configuration:
KAIS130
SPL-3.56.Hard
CPLD-8

You do not have HardSPL on your phone. You have SPL 3.28, which was flashed to your phone as part of the WM 6.1 upgrade. If you want to try out custom ROMs, you will still need to flash HardSPL 3.xx.
I recommend flashing HardSPL 3.56. It was ripped from an AT&T build, but seems to work great with all flavors of WM 6.1.
As for the freezing, it cannot be eliminated 100%. But with a good cooked ROM and the right HardSPL, you will rarely experience one.

If I want to downgrade from official wm 6.1 to official wm 6.0 that is in xda, do I need a spl or hardspl ???
By the way, the problem I am having with WM 6.1 is support code 86000107, sync problem that until today don't see a solution
if u need upgrade or downgrade then u r speaking about a need for hardspl

Just a quick update. After HardSPL-ing my phone it worked well for sometime then the tmail.exe error surfaced. I have only had the cprog.exe error - where a call comes in and i can not answer neither can i make another call until i soft reboot - has only happened once or twice. Apart from these the phone has been working well.
Anyway i just got a reply from my earlier mail to HTC and thought i should post if here for people's information. Apparently they are aware of these issues and working on them. Read for yourselves:
New Response From [ Maha Mamer (Qatar Support (Tech)) ]

Just an observation here:
After reading somewhere on these pages that the erratic behavior of TYTN II could be due to bluetooth adapter i decided to go some days without my Motorola S9 bluetooth ear piece i am yet to experience any of the issues i had before. Could the bluetooth software for WM 6.1 be the issue?
Momentary Freezing - Resolved?

Thanks guys. I just did the HardSPL 3.56 and re-installed the HTC official 6.1 ROM. So let's see how it goes.
Btw, HardSPL-ing is not as difficult as it seems though.
Right now the following is my configuration:
KAIS130
SPL-3.56.Hard
CPLD-8

Did you ever resolve your momentary freezing issues? I have a new TYTN II that I upgraded to WM 6.1. I used hardspl 1.0 to do that but after reading numerous posts, I loaded HArdspl 3.28. After installing hardSPL 3.28, the 5 second freezes are less frequent but happen everyday.
I am not sure where to go from here? load another HSPL? Reload '3.28.405.0 (Radio 1.65.16.25) original HTC WWE (World Wide English) ' ROM?
As you know these pauses are very annoying.

I am looking for a solution. Not using Blue tooth to use a device that costs over 600.00 just doesn't make sense to me.
Is there a ROM hardSPL combination that will give me freeze-free performance or is this an HTC problem that is not solvable. I just can't believe that every Kaiser user that has upgraded to wm 6.1 has the same issue that I have with momentary freezes that last up to 5 seconds.
Is the solution another ROM, another Hspl, another phone? Who can help me resolve this issue? Is there a better place to post this?
Thank you
Freezes and locks.
Prior to my upgrading my AT&T Tilt to WM6.1 which I did today. I was experiancing LONG freezes, listening to music or just waiting for menus. I could not determine any specific software that was the cause. I tend to install a lot. Did a hard reset, didn't install the AT&T bloat, reinstalled my primary apps MS Voice Command 1.6 (a Must). Still same issues... Occationally could NOT answer calls. Hit the green button, or the answer option on screen. the onscreen 'answer' would flash, but I could not use the phone until a soft reset. LONG process when you are waiting for a call back.
AT&T sent me a new phone which I got and installed the NEW wm 6.1 before anything. Worked pretty well, but I had not made any calls or recieved any all day. I did listen to several hours of music on my Motorola S9 headset and made sure Audible Player would work. Two apps I use daily.
All seems well, except NOW I get the cprog.exe error. I decided to test my phone with a simple incoming call. Before I ended it, it went dead. Not sure what the HardSPL is yet. Will look into that. Just thought I'd let others know that the lag, AT&T seemed to think was a hardware issue so they replaced my Tilt.
Software installed; MS Voice Command 1.6, Live Search, Audible Player, TCPMP, FlashBundle, GPSToday. Pretty much it besides the AT&T bloat that came with the ROM. Good luck

Hard reset or ROM

Borrowed a test phone waiting for new ROM. First thing was to setup date and time, which lead to it getting locked with the message: "This concludes the beta test.........". I have tried everything to get rid of that lock/notification, without any luck.
Does anyone know to hard reset the device, so I can get back to play with it - remembering not to set the date again?
A better alternative would be to have a working ROM that i could flash.

Hi,
Can you do a task 28 via MTTY? That should do it I think...
Also, are you willing dump the ROM?
Dave
I am not that advanced that MTTY sayes me anything?
Have have flashed HTC phones several times, editet registry, but that is about it.
Can you point me in the direction of the MTTY - could not find the tool on the wiki-pages.
BR: Steen
PS: I can get it into bootloader mode by the way.
Volume Up, Volume down and Soft reset, then follow on screen instructions.
When you reboot, leave the date alone. Soon as it hits march 1st, you get that message.
I suggest you contact whoever gave you the device and ask for ROM 1.29.
BINGO - the one key combination that I have not tried worked
I will get a new ROM, but I don't know when.
It would be hard to go through the whole weeknd with at pice of brand new hardware that I could not use.
Thank's A LOT!!!
Br Steen
no probs. I was the same when mine arrived last week. I tried everything else before i twigged i had missed that combination.
Since people seem to have the device, I'm going to ask a similar thing to Dave...
What ROM version are you running, and any change we can get our hands on it?
New Topaz
I have one:
ROM 1.29.405.4 (44229) WWE
ROM Date 03/01/09
Radio 3.42.25.24
Protocol 61.15t.25.02H
OS 5.2.21028 (Build 21032.1.6.0)
exactly same as dazbert here.
I have an RUU but for business reasons i cannot post it (They know who i am...!!)
But i believe that Dazbert has already dumped it and put it in the ROM development forum
