Small pictures on received MMS - o2 UK - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi,
I've had my Diamond for a couple of weeks now (bought sim free).
I used to have a Sony Ericcson P1 with the same SIM and when I received MMS, the picture had the original size (set by the sender).
Now on my Diamond, the picture is really tiny after download (4k usually) and thus useless.
I've read a few posts on other forums for other HTC phones which advised to edit an entry in the registry, but nothing for the HTC Touch Diamond.
Others says that the operator reduce the size of the picture so that you have less to download (rather stupid if it's the case).
I was wondering if any of you guys had the same issue.
For info I'm using the latest official HTC ROM.
Thanks for your help.

I have the same issue as I bought sim free and on o2, When I called them they said it was becuase the phone is not supported on their system yet and when someone sends and Image to an unknown phone it is automatically gets downsampled. As a result the pic comes in very small. I am finding it very annoying but hopefully when o2 UK finally get their acts together and get the Diamond, instead of pratting around with the crappy iPhone, it will probably start working ok. Although you might need to download new MMS setting files from the web site.
Hope this helps
Richard

I've had this issue with all my previous xda phones.. I'm pretty sure its not o2, as when I use my sim in a 'normal' phone, any mms I get turns out fine. Would love to find out what causes this though.

Let's wait for o2 to sort out their system.

thanks, I will take a look into the cabs if I can find them.

i had the same problem
i used this fix and it worked.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359584

Its an 02 problem. Seems only 02 do it. Their network doesn't 'recognise' your phone so it defaults to the smallest resolution as a default.
I had this problem with my s710 and had to edit the registry so that the network thought it was an xda phone.

small video
Hi
When sending or receiving video in mms the video shows up so small that it is not worth watching.
It is possible though, to save the vide and watch it in WMP with good size and quality.
It is obvious that the operator does not reduce the size of the file. It must be something related to the arcsoft mms application.
Kindest Regards

Best anti-theft software for Kaiser?

Hello community!
I just wanted to see some input from you guys as far as what is your preferred anti-theft application for your Kaiser phone? There's a few applications out there, and the following is a short list of the most popular apps out there:
- WIMP (Where is my phone)
http://www.wimp-software.co.uk/
- MobileJustice
http://thinkabdul.com/2007/03/02/mo...monitor-sim-card-changes-via-gps-coordinates/
- Sprite Terminator
http://spriteterminator.com/
Theres a few more out there, and I am curious as to see which one has the best options and capabilities. Some of them have GPS tracking systems, others can wipe all your information remotely, either way they have the potential to become real handy in extreme cases.
If anyone has a story to share where they used these applications in a real world situation please share it with the community as well!
Thanks
Sprite
I have tried Remoteprotect, and Ultimate theft before Sprite Terminator. Remoteprotect works great but no GPS and Ultimate theft would not shut off when tested. It keeps forwarding the text and its also a gimick you have to buy it in three separte sections. So I would recomend Sprite Terminator.
you can also try this on http://smartphonetracker.blogspot.com/
free and working.
I am also interested in installing one of these programs. Is there anyone who has tried more than one of them? Which do you recommend?
does anyone know if there is any possibility that we could implement the HP security system for there new ipaq phones into other WM phones?
something like what is explained in the end of this video...

MODS. This thread should be in the general Kaiser forum....it would get more relevant views there I would think.

Thats cool, I was thinking of looking for a program that did this. You cant be too careful .
The only downside I could think of if the sim gets yanked out you´re screwed - right? :S
How does it work, does it trigger a GPS connection every couple of minutes?

yes i am also concerned for that aas well... but i remember reading up on one of those programs listed above that also works in the background even when the sim card get pulled out...
There was one I was looking at, don't remember the name now. Maybe it is one already listed. Anyway, you could go on the internet at any time and see on a map where your phone is, and if someone thought they were going to just take your SIM out and replace it with theirs the phone immediately sends you a text with the phone number of the new SIM card. I thought that was cool, because you would then know who was using your phone.

Wow awesome! Thx for this! The only thing to find out is how to hide it, and cook it with settings into a ROM.
These are all great programs but.....
I had my 8125 stolen and the crook just did a hard reset and the recovery software was gone. Luckily the bad guys had other bad habits and the cops found them. They recovered my phone but it was totally wiped clear, had been reinstalled with new music but no tracking software.
Because not just heavy users know how to do a hard reset the thing that is missing is having the tracking software burned into the rom so it can't be erased. I know this is quite A challenge. But when and if that can be solve we will have a good tool to protect our Under perfoming HTC devices (could not help that last part)
Cook the app into a ROM isn't that hard i think (also i haven't cooked a ROM until now, but seen tutorials which explain how) and in case of smartphonetracker the settings are saved in "settings.config" so we need to cook in a file which 'simply' copys this file into the "Program File" folder. Doesn't sound too hard but the "simply copy.." is may the biggest problem.
For sure nearly everybody who visit this forum is capable of flashing a new ROM and therefore can avoid tracking. But the bit more security is worth the effort, in my opinion.
I still don't understand.
Let's assume some asshole and steals your phone. Why do they do with it?
Option A - Re-sale. Surely this shouldn't be possible as the original owner of the phone will contact the network and the IMEI will be blocked.
Option B - Access to Data. You're device is password protected (right?) so they need that to get into the phone via activesync. As long as they don't switch it off, it might not lock the screen so they'd have to leave your SIM in... but then they'd surely be intelligent (they want data after all) go to flight mode and it won't be able to dial home. And then there's the media card.... even encrypted it probably wouldn' be hard to bypass. Surely the best you can hope for is to send a message and have the phone kill itself.
Option C - Phoning <insert foreign country>. Same answer as A.
Result is, I do not see how this software can be of real use. The best thing that I can think about for this software is someone can text you while you are driving and have it reply where you are on your behalf.
Or am I missing something?

Many Kaisers are not bound to their phone network. I can insert another sim card and use it without limitations.
well how about some thug takes your phone and isn't to savy tech wise. He doesn't take it because it's "the top of the line" driverless phone, no he takes it because it's shinny and looks expensive. So maybe they are smart enough to just turn it off for a little while but at some point they turn it on to check out what it does and to see if it works. I'm thinking at this point you get an email or txt with the gps location. Drop that into google maps, call the coppers, grab a chainsaw and head to where google leads you.
Am I missing something?

Here in the US IMEI blacklisting is not done on GSM phones. The phones are locked to the carrier though, but the phone can be unlocked.

HTC Tytn II or O2 Xda Stellar?

Hi,
I'm in the UK and renewing contract as I type. It's a business contract for approx. 11 sim card and 4 new handsets.
We go through a telecom company who provide the contract (this one is with O2) and the handsets.
Now, one of the handsets we've asked for is an HTC Tytn II...
BUT I'm not 100% sure if they plan to send an O2 Xda Stellar or an HTC Tytn II, as they are the same phone they may be planning to send either.
My question is this. Should I insist on an HTC Tytn II or would I be better with the Stellar?
I plan to use it as follows:
WIFI access wherever I can get it
3G/GPRS internet access on the phone
Use the phone as a 3G/GPRS modem for my laptop via bluetooth
Use a Jabra BT Headset
Use it as a tomtom satnav
Sync to Outlook 2003
Does a UK supplied Tytn II come with the tomtom taster software?
If not can the downloaded copy (of the taster software) I have got be used on it easily?
Can I easily put the tomtom software on a stellar (I'm concerned about the problems I've read about the internal GPS setting)
If I get the Tytn II will it be hard to get the 3G/GPRS and laptop modem stuff working with 02 setting etc.?
I'm concerned that the Stellar would be locked to O2 so perhaps less future proof (If I leave O2)
In a nutshell, should I be concerned which version I get given that I will be on O2 and want to use it as described?
I hope you can help as I want to send an email asap if I should be insisting on one version.
Regards
Bryan
I'll be very surprised if you get the HTC Tytn II and not the O2 XDA Stellar. My company is with O2 and we have been sent the Stellars (which do all the things you are asking about, by the way)
The other good thing is that, from my experience, all O2 phones are unlocked anyway (I've tried a SE K850i, a Nokia E90 and the Stellar and all can be used with other sims right out of the box)
The O2 doesn't come with the TomTom taster software though (We bought full copies of it and it works beautifully)
If you're really concerned, ask O2 to they will send you a O2 Stellar on trial so you can confirm everything for yourself. That's what I did
Hope that helps

Thanks for the quick reply.
O2 aren't sending the phone as such, we use an intermediary as we get a better deal from them. They may of course just be getting the phones from O2 anyway and that's why I'm concerned that I may be getting a Stellar when I asked for a Tytn II.
I'm just wondering if I would be better insisiting on a Tytn II or on a Stellar or should I not be bothered?
I understand it's the same device and the hardware is the same so they will both do the same job, just wondered which was best for me given that the O2 will be branded in the software (I assume) and maybe the vanilla Tytn II will be easiest to get working with other stuff. Or will the Stellar work better/easier with their 3G settings etc...
The Tytn II is a charcoal type colour isn't it? and the Stellar silver?
If so, I prefer the aesthetics of the Tytn II but can't just make a decision on colour now, can I
Well, from what I've read on this forum, it seems that the O2 software for whatever reason seems to run a bit better than the standard HTC stuff. If you don't want the O2 branding on there, hard-reset the phone when you get it and do a soft reset when it starts installing the O2 software. Hey presto, clean O/S.
From my usage of the Stellar, I've noticed a few things based on comments by other TyTnII/XDA users on this site.
1. Camera - Quality is reasonably good if you can keep your hand steady while you take the picture. The preview isn't very good but I think that's more the camera sensor constantly trying to re-adjust the brightness/contrast/colours more than anything else.
2. Screen Change (when opening/closing the keyboard) - I've looked at a few videos on YouTube showing some appalling screen change times. The Stellar that I have doesn't seem to suffer from this problem. It swaps between portrait/landscape extremely quickly with only a slight delay when going from landscape back to portrait.
3. Data connectivity - Overall, I haven't had a problems with data connections whether using Wifi or 3G/GPRS. Pocket IE is garbage but the new Opera browser is pretty good. Still not as good as the browser on the iPhone but it's certainly getting there.
4. Tomtom - The full version of TomTom 6 works fine with my Stellar. Set the GPS to Other NMEA GPS Receiver, 4800 Baud Rate on Com 4 and it works fine. To speed up Satellite acquisition times, I always use the QuickGPS software that comes with the Stellar.
5. Audio - I have noticed the occasional playback glitch that others on this forum are reporting although it doesn't seem to happen as frequently. There does however always seem to be a slight stutter when the audio hardware is initialised for the first time, whether playing back a MP3 or using a Ring/Message tone. I suspect this is a driver issue and may get sorted in time. It's certainly not a deal-breaker for me though.
That's all I can think of at the moment. If anything else springs to mind, I'll put another post up.

Hi Bryan,
To answer in turn
Yes, a hard reset would bring back the branding unless you performed another soft reset after the hard reset (if you see what I mean )
Yes, they are the settings for the internal GPS. Initial satellite pickup after using QuickGPS (and using TomTom for the first time) was about 30 seconds.
Glad the rest was useful!

setting sproblem - Unlocked o2 stellar with TMobile sim card

I have just bought a replacement for a lost Tmobile vario III, which is an unlocked O2 stellar. All works fine except I cannot receive MMS and internet settings from T mobile. Maybe this is because the existing O2 configuration software is still on the phone?? So questions: how doe I remove all the O2 software and settings, can anyone give me the right T mobile settings in case the automatic download never works??
I think you could be right there Jeremy - although your phone will pick up the right SMS address from the network, it needs to be taught the right MMS and GPRS/3G settings for those to work.
Easiest way is to go to T-Mobile's website, look in Support, enter your phone number and they'll send you the correct settings direct to your phone.
Next easiest is to find an HTC Network Wizard cab, as this will install the correct settings for many networks (all the ones in the UK are supported) automatically.
Last method is to enter the details manually. The T-Mobile website doesn't list them (only offers the text-to-you method) and I've used the Network Wizard for so long I can't find my piece of paper with the settings on anymore! I'm pretty sure this site has them listed correctly though http://www.mphone.co.uk/mms_wap_settings_t_mobile.html
The T-Mobile settings should overwrite the O2 ones (or show as two separate selections) but if you want to remove the O2 software completely then you're in the realms of flashing a non-O2 ROM, in which case you've come to the right place but got a lot of reading in front of you.
Stu - thanks for your reply. I have tried several times to get the setting downloaded to the phone by Tmobile but for some reason they never arrive. So I may try to download and instal the HTC Network Wizard cab although this makes me a bit nervous - if I get it wrong can I seriously screw up my phone??
Stu - I did it anyway and it worked - what a great little piece of software! Thanks so much for the help.
Next question - can I remove the O2 flash screens from the phone - any idea?

Nice thing about phones, make sure your contacts, calendar are backed up onto a PC and you can install ANYTHING without fear - if it goes really wrong, just Hard Reset to get back to factory-fresh and reinstall your contacts, etc. The only way you can seriously screw your phone up is playing with the Radio or ROM without Hard-SPL being installed or being stupid with MTTY.
Or using a big hammer on it will work well too at screwing it. As will letting my kids play ClickBall when they're in a strop....

Easy enough, thanks to POF! The wiki has a link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334907 and LOADS of useful info.
Thanks for all you helpfula dvice Stu. Took a deep breath and falshed my ROM, bit scary and bit complicated but finally managed to get it to work!

Problems so far .....

Having used the phone for x2 days here are a list of the problems I have noticed so far ...
1) Battery life sucks. After a full recharge overnight the phone lasts from about 8am to 5pm, and that is without using it too much. I have pushmail activated so GPRS is always on.
2) The reception is definitely not as good (c/w trinity and tytnII). I am on T-mobile in the UK. My reception at work is not usually that good, but now it is non existant.
3) At times the Touchflo 3D menu can be quick jerky/sluggish taking more than a few seconds to refresh which makes selecting the correct menu item difficult. Other times it is smooth and works well.
4) Very tempermental when answering a call. Often cuts off after a few rings or when the green button is pressed. My wav ring tone file doesn't start properly and is distorted intially, then begins to work.
5) Despite having a gprs connection the weather doesn't always update.
6) On the browser tab of the TouchFlo, it can be difficult to select one of your favorite links, it doesn't always select.
Agree with above. In addition:
1. Does not remember backlight settings in battery e.g. I would like the backlight to remain for 1 min, but it always defaults to 10 sec (I have unchecked auto light adjustment)
2. Does not remember phone view settings under MENU\VIEW. I would like it to display ALL CALLS, but it defaults to CALLS AND CONTACTS even without a reset i.e. if I exit the phone screen and return after a few minutes, it shows this behavior.
3. ROM definately slower than Athena AP4 (6.1 base) by PK.
4. I thought it had 256 ROM and 192 RAM (thats what the box says), but the memory app reports 82.81 and 133.08M respectively (waiting for Comnex, PK team to see if they can come up with a similar cracker that they did for Athena)
I definately agree with the signal strength, my touch cruise had stellar signal strength in my house, the diamond is poor.
not had chance to fully test battery.
My weather has always updated regularly and phone calls have been great on 3uk, no dropped calls at all.
Touch flow 3d is taking some getting used to but i definately think its an improvement.
All in all my moans are:
1. Signal not as good as cruise.
2. It was nice to have memory card in touch cruise (8gig) for dam fast file transfer (when taken out and used as usb drive) the 4 gig in the diamond is quite sluggish if your moving a lot of files.
Earlier this week I could have sworn you all would think I am nuts when I did my review.. I guess you are all experiencing the same problems I had!! HTC needs to fix!
The ringer is also quite soft !!!!
I'm sure a radio update, albeit not for USA, will be out and will improve reception!
If there really is a software issue thats holding back the UK release i'm sure you can expect a new rom in a matter of days.
But since all current diamonds are grey, where would you get that rom from?
Also if they are branded for a HK operator will you even be able to install the HTC rom without hard/soft spl.
Is anyone with a diamond able to register to any HTC site? UK, USA or HK?
Why are they saying they are grey?? All Diamonds are made in HongKong anyway!

Physically there's no difference of course, its just the serial number - which means HTC may not honour waranty in a different country, and possibly CID lock if its made for an operator - which means generic roms may not work.
In this case i think its just about the waranty and not being able to register to the HTC website to get ROMs.

What about the camera on the diamond ?
Is it the same as on the tytn2 and touch cruise (meaning dropping fps and lagging as hell in darker places) ?
the camera seems quicker in darker conditions, on other thing i need help on, how do you delete files in the windows folder, i need to free up some space as these vga apps kill the free storage space and i like to keep most progs installed to the main mem. The reason i ask is because there is alot of wasted space ie the opera cab file is in the windows folder at 4meg. i have resco explorer but cant unchecck "rom file". This opera browser is amazingly fast btw!

afaik you cant delete those files. to get rid of those you need your own cooked rom, where you exclude those files, before uploading the rom to your device.
there is a lot of information about rom cooking in the hermes thread and in the wiki, if you are interested.
hope that helps,

MMS/SMS Pics too small

Apologies if this has been posted before. (I couldn't find it in the Diamond archive).
Whenever I receive either a picture or video in a text message it is almost too small to see.
I am using an unlocked Diamond on O2 in the UK.
Thanks

You can edit the send recieve size limits in the reg.
Is there a difinitive fix for this yet? prefrably without altering the reqistry. I am still having this problem! o2 seem to be a bit stumped with it!
Is there anyone that can help here?
Who else is having this problem on o2 or even other UK networks. I think it really needs looking into but never seem to get any response.
o2 don't seem to be able to help us and all they suggested was xda-developers.
Personally I think it is o2 causing the problem and they just don't know how to fix it!!
It does seem like an o2 problem. A new Vodafone HTC worked fine. It received 3m pics from my old Nokia but when I tried to send a 3m pic with the HTC it failed. All I could send was a low res version. It arrived in full screen size, unlike the tiny ones I receive.
I don't seem to have any problems sending MMS's to people, just receiving them. They always come in at 3k. All settings on phone are fine regarding resolutions and download limits. All the same as my girlfriends XDA Ignito and hers works just fine. I just can't understand it.
This is an O2 diamond issue, as the diamond isn't supported by O2 when images are sent the sending server cannot recognise the phone and send it as a default image size, you need to fool the sending server into thinking the phone is supported.
follow this fix, worked for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359584

Worked great. Thank you!
I know this thread is somewhat old, but these tiny MMS pics were driving me insane. I just wanted to express my appreciation.
Thank you. This worked perfectly on my unlocked Fuze.
Didn't seem to work on my diamond damnit!
