Garmin XT issue - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

does anyone have this? the program will not run anymore. it loads the splash screen then it goes back to my home screen? are there any solutions?

I had the same issue a couple of weeks ago - never figured out how to correct the problem so I re-installed the program from scratch (on SD card of course) and soft reset and it worked fine...but I don't like Garmin XT that much so I switched to Igo8 instead: the maps are not as smooth but works faster and better + Igo has maps of regions of the world that neither Garmin nor Tomtom have...
One thing for sure, this is not an issue related to your internal GPS so don't go around messing with those settings...
Oh, and you might want to try Tomtom Taster version (with 1 free area downloadable map) - it doesn't take up much memory and it would confirm to you that there is no problem with the GPS itself...

i had tomtom and it sucked. way to many buttons to push just go get a route

the only reason i stuck with garmin mobile xt for so long is because of the free traffic update and gas price, but the software and navigation is slow and choppy, and the random freezes (disabled the agps fixed the freeze issue).
now i finally settled with igo 8... had a good run with tomtom, and probably never touch garmin again. it is a shame, their garmin nuvi is so good

So does iGo have free traffic rerouting and gas price listings like Garmin Mobile XT? These two are my deal-breakers for selecting any GPS routing app.

My Garmin Mobile XT is flawless
I've not had one issue in over four months of use. I've run it at the same time as my Garmin in the car and they both are perfect. What do you mean by slow maps? I'm in the US and the maps have not sent me wrong once. I can't believe how well it works. What version are you using. There are updates online and their tech support is very good without a wait. The only issue I've had is the chip (hardware) doesn't sync up cold for three minutes at times. This happens with Google and Garmin. With garmin you can see the signal strength of each satellite. It usually syncs on eight or nine. I've noticed that several at a time start flashing. I've read that this is a faulty chip issue and HTC says they will replace the whole board free. I haven't sent it back yet because once it syncs it works great for hours of driving.
A hot and warm sync is less than ten seconds. I've tried to contact HTC and the chip manufacturer but haven't been able to reach anyone technical. They just want to change the whole board.

when i start navigation with garmin mobile xt, the position cursor updates once every 2-3 seconds (sudden jump), instead of the smooth movement like tomtom and iGo and google map, even to the highest detail.

Please report your GPS experience

For the lucky people who got their Kaisers already, would you please report your experience regarding the built-in GPS please specially the initial cold fix as it was very slow with the Trinity P3600
TomTom 6.030 does not work, instead you have to install the TT version 6.0.32 from the accompanying CD. The first fix (after QuickGPS ran) was almost instaneaous and a lot faster than on the Athena.
Agreed; and, at least in Google Maps, the position is more accurate than the Ameo.
For batterie Life
Hello,
Can you post hte comment of batterie life when you use the GPS.
For example: the phone
the telephone is load completely (100% full batterie) and when you use 1 hour of gps
how much battery it remains?
Thanks.

Am running 6.030 now!
Don't ask me how or why but it's working fine.
Joe
I now verified that on TT6.030 you have to use "Other NMEA GPS/4800Bd/Com 4: and on TT6.032 you can stay with "Internal GPS"
In any case, TT6.032 with "Internal GPS" the fix is aqcuired a lot faster than on TT6.030
TT6.032 is supplied with the TyTNN II on the accompanying CDRom
(TT6.032 incidentally does not allow itself to be installed on any other device, the installer prevents that, but after installation on the TyTN II, the directory can be copied to for instance the x7500 to replace the old installation there, and it will work fine. My first impression is that also on the x7500 with TT6.032 the fix is faster, but I still need to run the "dinner table test" )
its working fine now after i installed the version on the cd. thanks. my MapKing chinese version also working, GREAT!
When you use tt6.32 from the CD, can you use any tt6 map? or is it locked to 1 map only?
Can you have multiple maps with the tt6.32 from the CD?
Can you confirm that the version supplied with TyTn II i.e., TomTom 6.0.32, is a FULL version ? Licences? or is it a taster and you have to pay to register it as a full version? If it is full, does it come with Great Britain Maps (full) or you have to download them? In case of download, is it free?
Thanks
The CD version of TT 6.032 that comes with the Kaiser is as full as an update one would dowload from TomTom. There is no code. There are no maps either. One can download one area map (f.i. London) for free, but no country or continent maps are added. Those will have to be purchased separately.
If you install it on top of an already installed and registered TT6.0x0, it will not ask for a new code. Any old registration will remain valid.
On another note, sitting side by side in my car, I noticed that the x7500's GPS reception was a lot more consistent then the TyTNN II's. The TyTN II may acquire its fix a lot faster, but on the whole, the x7500's reception is better (even though my "dinner table test" would lead to believe otherwise) and more consistent.
While my x7500 had a permanent reception of 9-10 satellites (albeit with shorter bars) the TyTN II was jumping up and down between 3 and 7 satellites.
I currently use my Hermes in an 'in car' holder, with a bluetooth GPS reciever face up in the window. One thing that I would like to know, is that if I was to get a Kaiser and put it into my car holder, surely the orientation of the GPS reciever inside the Kaiser would be 'end on' to the sky, and the satelites.
This must affect performance?
I got mine this morning. Took me quite a while to get GPS working -- had to do a hard reset. It's now working with Route 66, which I used to use on my Wizard.
GPS data seems a bit bursty -- when I was viewing it with GPSViewer, I'd get a bunch of NMEA strings, then nothing for several seconds, then another burst.
Hum..seems to be same issue than Paul from Modaco :
"The GPS bug seems to occur with some applications whereby the GPS 'data stream' will pause for a few seconds at a time, which makes some apps think the GPS has gone away (e.g. Google Maps) and other apps just update in sudden jumps rather than smoothly." ?
Seems that HTC did not fix it in the final ROM.
Do you know if HTC is aware of this issue and plan to fix it ?
Thanks
don't know if i've encountered the bug but here's my situation: i cannot get the GPS Hardware Port (or COM) settings to "stick" after changing them. for example i can change GPS Program Port and it will stick but changing the Hardware Port and clicking OK has no impact. if i reopen the GPS settings, the Hardware Port shows "(NONE)". and this is after 4 hard resets. funny thing is that is worked when i initially set up my device, then all of a sudden, TT6 was reporting "No GPS Device"... it may be time to pack it up and return it for a replacement... any suggestions would be appreciated.
Update: Followed Paul's (on Modaco) suggestion to leave the default settings and now GPS is working.
Which Navigation programs work in landscape mode???
for those of you with a Tytn II, are you able to modify the GPS Hardware COM port from one setting to another? the fact that mine says "(NONE)" is leading me to believe i have a hardware defective unit. thanks.
Kaiser and mapking 2007
ive tried mapking 07 on kaiser and it doesnt work. It juz cannot pinpoint the location that I am at. I wonder if its the software problem??
I installed TOM-TOM from the HTC CD and it has worked with out problems, even installed US MAPS from another Tom-Tom CD I have from the original version. Only problem so far, once I was using it and received an SMS message and it locked up. Had to restart. Receiving email is fine but the SMS message freaked it out.

Using GPS brings machine to crawl

I have a HTC Tytn II Pro. Everything works great, except GPS.
The CDs did not have any Tomtom application, but I had my own copies of Destinator, Igo 2006 Plus and Mapopolis, along with Map4Pda.
When I try to access the GPS via any of these apps using COM4:, the machine slows down terribly. I haven't been able to get a fix so far either. This morning Quickfix GPS was downloading fine, now it gives connection errors.
I haven't messed with GPS Control Panel yet, but I am wondering if I have a faulty unit, or does the Tomtom 6.032 unlock/change something to make it work.
Has anyone used the unit's GPS without any Tomtom install first? Did anyone experience any slowness using GPS?
Any suggestions? I tried a hard reset and just installed Map4Pda after that, still no luck.
That strange if you dont have TomTom6 in the Application CD.
It is called:
Installer_Kaiser_ttn_6_032_8351_HTC_WWE_20070716.exe
Check your manual, is TomTom6 mentioned there?
If it is, why dont you contact your supplier and ask?
Btw, I use TomTom6 from CD and it is running fine. Got fix pretty quickly under 30 seconds.
TT6
Seems like TT is not on CDs in north america.
Get it - TT6 works like a charm, fix in less then 7 secs here (use the gps quickfix download) and very responsive - even at high speeds.
No complaints on TT for TyTNII
my app cds had the tomtom app.... bought in vegas (uk plug though)
Please test, some reports the gps lost signal after 1 hour.

My app cd says MEA, so it must be from Middle East/Asia. And manual does not refer to TomTom at all. I bought it through SuperiorGadgets. I don't think it is their fault though, it appears devices from certain regions don't have Tomtom.
With that said, I made another hard reset on Friday evening, first installed Beeline GPS, which got a lock after a minute and QuickGPS was updating fine too. Then I installed my apps, after installing several I checked it again, Beeline was fine. Finally I installed Igo 2006 Plus (June 2007 version) and that is working fine and slowness with GPS is gone away. It makes me wonder what caused it in the first place. I'll install couple more GPS apps and see what happens.
HTC TYTN II GPS (Kais 130) - Got it working.....YES
Hi Guys,
I just bougth this HTC TYTN 2 and it seems ok.
For the GPS, I installed Google maps which did not find any satellites either.
I then copied visualgpsce.exe ( in the attachment) on the kaiser and ran it from there, it got 7 sattelites in less than 10 seconds. after that, google worked like magic. I did not have TOMTOM on my CD either so i could not try it and I am in an area that is not covered by maps from TOMTOM, but i think it will work just fine after this nice warmup.
It seems that the first connection require some clear skies, nice warm up software and some patience.
Thanks and good luck.
I'm in the states, got it from Mobileocity. Came with TT6 on app disc. Works like a charm, finds location within 10sec, no slowdown on system.

Hw6510 & TomTom 6

I have just installed TomTom 6 on my HW6510. I can get the sound working by renaming the file BtCoreIf.dll. However I can't select the internal GPS receiver by following the instructions on a previous thread.
I deleted the file Navigator (under the directory navigator) - on restarting TomTom it just asks me for preferences (language, left / right handed etc..) it does not give me any options for selecting the receiver.
I must be missing something but don't know what.
Any help would be appreciated.
Dump tomtom
had loads of never ending issues with tomtom on my 6515. between map errors , no sound, hig system requirements and plain bad programming i eventually followed a complaint thread at pda4x.com and decided to go with IGO. never looked back, even dumped tomtom off my wifes pda and installed IGO for her as well.
Possibly its just the Australia maps that are that bad on tomtom but i find IGO to be a far superior product with greater ease of use and better routing. Easier to install, and NO ISSUES!!!
I am afraid i cant help you. tomtom runs buggy on my tornado and on my old blue angel when i had it , it worked ok, but slow, i got it running perfectly with the 6515 for about two weeks, after which it started loosing the gps.. (ie: had to find gps hardware every time i started tomtom). But note, when it was running it ws sluggish (possibly sd issues).I reiterate what i said in the last post. dump tomtom. on this device igo 2007+ runs waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better, much faster response and no bugs. Personally i find the routing to be better anyhow.
PS. Garmin XT runs fantastically. installed since my last post. if one was to install a cracked version, which of course one would not do, i would have to say the process was horribly complicated . But worth it. garmin has to date given me the best drive, plus integration of the garmin desktop map bundles available make it a win win
if you need help with the garmin install for integrated gps units pm me!
Thanks for the response - I will probably change to iGO. Before I do, one point to clarify, you state "after which it started loosing the gps.. (ie: had to find gps hardware every time i started tomtom)".
Was the finding of the GPS hardware an automatic action once TomTom started or was this something you had to force?
nope random, seemed to be tied to the autoupdate feature of the quickgps software on the 6515. if gprs was not connected then somehow it would not go over to old manual sattelite fix and just hung in limbo. if gprs is on or quickgps is in an "updated" state it seemed fine. the quickfix was to go into tomtom gps settings and "refind" the gps each time. damn annoying.
note here.. both tom tom and igo seemed to "lose focus" because of the quickgps app. basically you tap tomtom navigator shortcut.. tomtom boots, but then quickgps kicks in and shifts focus from tomtom and never gives it back until you tap the screen. in the case of IGO this was worse because if you tapped the [backarrow] button on the menu it would tap the windows key instead and the only way to fix that is to actualy start an app on the start bar drop down then kil it and "focus" would return to Igo. Once again only an issue if the quickgps software is not up to date. when i say update i mean that its downloaded the latest sattelite position files, not the actual program version update. I did update the version from ver 1.3 to ver 1.6 did not fix this issue
best of luck
PS I got a p3600i the other day.. lovely phone but sucks butt as a gps (very slow sattelite fix) compared to the 6515 running igo so my 6515 still lives in my car

Best GPS software

What is the best GPS software that works on the Diamond and why?
From what i can see the big ones are:
Tom Tom
iGo
Destinator
Route66
CoPilot
Google Navigator (yeah ok the wildcard!)
Do any of these have built in/downloadable speed cameras, and do any have traffic information?
I'm sure everyone is else will be asking the same question in about 1 week
Personally I like tomtom the most, it might be that im just used to it cuz I was using it for few years, Garmin mobile xt is pretty decent too. They both have speed cameras/ traffic but it's an extra service. I think traffic is free but you have to buy speed camera locations
i have used IGO,Destinator, Papago & TomTom.
Currently, I have TOMTOM on my diamond and it works great! I think TomTom is very user friendly and provides good info. You can get fixed red light cameras and fixed speed cameras.
I hope this helps

I have Garmin Mobile XT, it is pretty good. When you arrive at the destination, it tells you whether the address is at right or left side of the street. It is especially helpful when you are on a wide street with 2 or more lanes each side, you can be prepared to go left or right. On the other hand Tomtom does not tell you whether the address is on the right or left side of the street. Otherwise they both are comparable.
Just my 2 cents.
What is the difference between Google Navigator and Google Maps?
I´m not able to install tomtom on my diamond it does not find the maps any ideas?
best regards
Herby
I've always used Tomtom. But it hasn't been updated for two years and there is no news of a new verison coming out yet (apart from the usual rumours). I'm going to try Copilot 7.
Copilot was always good (had it years ago) but had a clunky interface. Looks pretty good now its had the interface re-done in the latest version.
Not a bad review of it here...http://www.trustedreviews.com/software/review/2007/11/01/ALK-CoPilot-Live-7-for-Windows-Mobile/p1
Don't know about Destinator or Route66. Never used them. And from other posts in this forum I don't think iGo will work. I think it will only run off a copy protected SD which rules out the Diamond, but I could be wrong on that.
Anyone know the situation with iGo?
Also any previous users have any comments about Route66 or Destinator?
IGo is locked to the micro SD card it is supplied on which is a real shame as it makes putting this application on to a device with no card slot impossible. It also makes it impossible to copy the app/ maps onto a larger card so once you have bought it you only have a small amount of free space available unless you are happy swapping cards all the time where a card slot does exist.
I would consider looking at Route 66, its a decent application although the maps are around 12 months old which seems strange for a very newly released application (version 8 for PPC). These maps are around six months more up to date than the v675 map which is the latest map release that works with TomTom Navigator 6.
Tried Destinator and never bothered putting it back on the PDA, too slow and clunky for my taste, I also have Co-Pilot Live 7 and that seldom gets used because I find the interface too slow although once you get used to it its a decent application, another one is Sygic Live, great potential but the version I used tended to route down back streets, narrow lanes etc to the extent I didn't trust it - Mike
I currently have TomTom and MioMap on my Touch Cruise.
I prefer MioMap.
I have just made the switch from CoPilot 7 to Garmin XT. Garmin seems to have more functionality- or maybe I'm more familiar with it because I have it in my car and it's EXACTLY the same interface!

Google Navigator: http://www.pdafun.net/
So it seems everyone has their favourites! How about from a speed camera/traffic update point of view? Please correct me if i'm wrong.
It seems all of them charge for speed cameras with some anual charge, but by registering for free here you can get an up to date speed cameras POI for the UK for free. http://www.poigenie.co.uk/speed_cameras
There are also other versions around compiled from the official tomtom update and other sources.
For traffic, it seems again they all charge unless your using TMC - which the diamond doesnt have (right?).
Since iGo doesnt work i'm now split between TomTom - because eventually we'll get a v7 rom / and Garmin - because alot of people seem to like it.
I think Copilot speed camera updates are free. But they charge for Traffic info (bout £35 for 2 years ).
Do any of these sat nav apps come with card readers seen as the Diamond doesn't have an SD card slot.
I'm assuming most of these are supplied on SD card
Thanks
I have MioMap3.3 and TomTom V7 on my trinity, I by far preferr MioMap but I have to use TomTom because it has more upto date maps and knows more POST codes than MioMap.
I dont think you have to have an SD card to install either of these programs and they both work perfectly.
I have tried Tomtom, Garmin, Navigon and iGO8 and I think that iGO8 by far is the best one. I think there is a version for the Diamond but I do not know if you can by it without the phone...
It is however quiet easy to install the regular version on a Diamond even without a SD-slot. Just use the searchfunction and you will find an answer in this forum.

GPS

What can you recommend to me a good Navigation app. and how to see if my GPS is working?. thanks in advance,
I've been using Garmin XT for a longer time and used to it.
But, (and there is allways one "butt" there, otherwise it would be so boring to live), after changing OS of the Xperia to custom cooked roms here in this forum I'm experiencing a litle bit trouble with this software, (garmin).
First of all, it aquires satelites slower and fixes position slower than ever, continuing to it garmin draws image slower, (maybe video drivers are related to it) and last but not leest it does not remember it's position resulting, (thus), every time You run garmin it runs at cold start, (each time it aquires new satellites, reads Almanah, and fixes it's position from new).
So It may be a good idea to try TomTom, iGo or Navigon.
After I install iGo I will tell you about this.
in the meantime I wish You lot of luck searching for Your answer.

Hi

Scared the crap out of me when I did the install...first took for ever to install....then ....phone ran out of memory ?? Could not open anything ...."not enough memory to open application"....resorted to the battery out trick....and everything went back to normal...very strange....
I took for ever to establish link to sat ..or whatever it is using to get your location...have to manually "autodetect" the receiver to get it working...but after that ...it's not bad....off by few meters in your location...but O.K
