I am leaving in a couple of days on a business trip to Japan and was hoping someone here would know if my HTC s730 will work. I have T-mobile USA, and my s730 Rev.A that is unlocked and unmodified.
The specs on the box *look right*, but I wanna double check before I leave. thanks for any information anyone has.

Edge should work just fine, not positive on 3g. You will get charged roaming fee's and such unless you get a pay for minute's sim for over there.
HTC S730 in japan is named "X03HT"
so...
They have their version of it yes, but did they change it internally... The base frequencies should be the same for edge / gsm, but the 3g I dont know which frequencies their carriers use.

I'm starting to see Diamonds for sale on Ebay. If I were to purchase one now, would it work on Sprint, even though they have not officially released it yet? Also, any reason to wait for the rumored Raphael; is it better?
Anybody switch to Diamond from Mogul; is it much better?
Thanks for your thoughts.
The diamonds you see is most likely unlocked, and can be used in any network you like.. I have no clue where in this world you reside, but US beware! No quad-band.
I'm in USA, so are you saying do not buy? Thanks for your response.

Yes dont buy unless its an American version of the Diamond...the ones on ebay are all asian versions which means that it wont work on the 3G network in America as far as i know. Judging by past posts on here by American forum members...best you will get is either Edge or GPRS if your lucky.
The American version of the Diamond should be released in july/august...best off waiting till then i would say.
Whoa! There is a lot of untrue information floating around here. First of all, Sprint runs on a completely different network than the rest of the world. So while the phones you purchase on eBay are most likely unlocked, they still run on GSM bands, which means you will only be able to use it with either AT&T or T-Mobile in the states. (Sprint/Verizon run on CDMA bands.)
Additionally, as noted - these non-US versions of the Diamond are not quad-band, and they do not run on the 3G bands used here in the states. I have one and live in the Washington DC area. I get fairly consistent Edge speeds, and slightly more dropped calls than with a US-release phone. It's well worth it to have the most kick-ass phone currently available, but it is a sacrifice nonetheless. Of course, depending on your geographic region, you may have more or less luck.
Finally, on a personal opinion note... Get off Sprint. Phones like this are always released first for the rest of the world, and have to be made with radios specific to Sprint/Verizon for use on their networks, which is always going to trail widespread release by several months at least (if not a year or longer). By using AT&T or T-Mobile, you are going to have access to much greater equipment selections on a regular basis.
I, have the Diamond in New York on T-Mobile Network, and my Edge connection is pretty quick with Opera, and as far as calls after two weeks of use I have yet to experience a dropped call or bad reception. I know this is not the same case in every area, but the fact that this device will not work in the US is not entirely true except 3G.
*Note* Neither Sprint nor Verizon will work.
The current versions of Diamond is not CDMA version. So they will not work on any CDMA networks in the US. That includes but not limited to Sprint, Verizon, and US Cellular. They will however work in the US with T-Mobile and AT&T with Edge connection. According to the FCC filing, they will do the full announcement of Diamond in the US by August 13 and PCS 1900Mhz was mentioned in the pdfs. All photos and such can not be disclosed by FCC until Aug 13th.
Any of you guys bought the unbranded Diamond that are using it in Canada? (Rogers, Fido) ? Are you able to take advantage fo the 3G network or no? Trying to figure out if I should wait for a possible North American release (not the Telus Diamond) or if it really matters at all. (North American one might have more ram??)
Thanks!
Anyone? :|
I'm on Rogers. Got my diamond last week and upgraded with the Diamond Project V2 ROM for quad-band. Don't have a data plan (too expensive), and only use wifi, but the phone has shown a G on the status bar once in awhile. Don't know if that means it's available....
I've had a diamond on Rogers for about 6 weeks now. No 3G, even with the newest ROM's. It does get EDGE (E) in most places in Toronto, and GPRS(G) elsewhere.

Hmm ok, not that I use 3G much (I usually disable it for battery reasons), but maybe I shall awhile just to see what happens. I'd like the option of 3G.
Thanks guys!~

Hi
You can use it with some networks (Not CMDA) and you´ll loose 3G pretty sure (Unless htc develops an american version)
However I´m using my Uni in Mexico since 2005 and works well on my carrier (www.telcel.com) and I can´t connect to 3G, but personally not care as long as I have WIFI or WIMAX wich I do.
Good day,

Yes sir, you are right. Verizon, Sprint and others use CDMA technology, wich is different from AT&T, T-Mobile, etc. that use GSM. If you don't know how to tell the diff, it's pretty simple....SIM card=GSM, NON SIM card=CDMA.
Also the US network uses UMTS/HSDPA (850/900/1900/2100 MHz), while the European network works on 850/900/1800/1900 MHz.
So, if you buy the touch pro2 you won't get 3G in USA, unless AT&T come out with......let's say something like "FUZE 2" or I read somewhere that the name was revealed already (but don't remember).
Hi,
I am new user and want to get the HTC Touch Diamond 2 ( Topaz ) next week. My current provider is AT&T.
I found some decent deals on eBay, but one seller wrote back saying that this phone is 100% working with AT&T and I only have to switch my SIM card out. Except for 3G....... he said, 3G won't work.
So my question is : Why would 3G not work ? Is this a phone normally used for other providers or is the 3G just turned off ? If so, can 3G be turned on easily via a hack or something ? I don't get it.
Thanks for helping.

the phone is 3G capable but I dont think the providers support it in your country.
If you are talking about AT&T in the USA, yeah 3G doesn't seem to work for me. I think the specific atenna range for 3G is not the one AT&T uses. I might be wrong though and just haven't seen a 3G link since its rare in my area and I don't use data that much. The best I can get is Edge.

America doesn't use the same 3G frequencies.., Europe 900/1200. America 850/whatever else. These phones are Euro 3G frequencies only so the best you'll get is GSM, which is quad band (i.e. work everywhere).
If you're cool with that that's fine, but when my phone drops from 3G to GSM I find it pretty unbearable (think dial up days).

Unfortunatley I don't think our phones support it. Here is my original post with the same question from May:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512828
Hi.
This summer I will be traveling in USA(New York and Florida). I have the LG Optimus 2X which according to the specs supports: "GSM (850/900/1800/1900), UMTS (900/2100), HSDPA 7.2/HSUPA 5.76".
1) Will I be able to use my Optimus 2x? I know that the US Nexus S works in Denmark because of the 2100 band..
2) If I can, what kind of pre-paid cards with data can I get? I saw T-Mobile has a Prepaid monthly plan called "Unlimited Talk & Text with 2 GB data" for 70$.
I have been searching but have not been able to get a clear answer. Hope you guys can help me out!
Last year I gave up trying to find any pre paid card with data on, for my HTC Desire. It really sucks to have a phone designed for having internet, when there is none!
GSM won't be a prob, all listed frequencies are used over here i guess the most hassle will be able to find a decent priced 3G prepaid sim; i do wish you luck with your journey; the phone can handle it!
p.s. any change if you can post your prepaid madness with us? Data roaming is a real ***** over here ....

It sure can. I dont mind paying the 70$ for the 2GB T-mobile prepaid that I found, but I cant help but wonder if there are any hidden extra charges(signup or whatever) and if It is possible to return the card if it does not work on 3G.

I had the same one when I was in L.A. But I only got Edge cause the phone I used did not support de band.
T-mobile use 700/2100 band for 3g/4g so it will not work with 3g just edge
I got my O2X from Singapore and it support 900/1900/2100Mhz UMTS and i am using it on AT&T's 3G without a problem.
Check the box of your phone, it should state the accurate frequencies as most online stores advertise the wrong frequencies.
My phone retail box states the 1900hz band and it is indeed working fine on AT&T's 3G.
