I doubt att going to have this phone, seeing how they going all out for there isuck phones, and also im not counting on htc to release a 3g diamond or pro with the 850 1900mhz, after 4 months i got tired, and i bought a UK phone touch pro, it works pretty cool. the net is not 3g but edge is pretty ok for me, and gps works fine too, i use tomtom on the phone and its pretty cool, and wiki is also cool if you live in a city with hotspots and what not.

Hello,
I have been really interested in buying this phone for quite a while now. But with it being Triband and not supporting any 3G in the US (which I only really use for internet sharing), I am still wondering if I should spend the money and get this phone or another one. My main question is, even without 3G support, I should still be able to get Voice and EDGE coverage correct? I currently have a Cavalier (S630) which I can use for Internet Sharing only if need be. I still cant see why its not Quadband =( and oh yes, I am on AT&T.
Any help on this topic would be great. Thanks =)
Man why waste 600+ dollars for half a phone. you have waited this long just wait for the us version. Trust me. You have no idea how slow edge is. I used to live in 3G/HSPDA terriroty and now i dont. I havent used my kaiser for web surfing in a while becasue its painfully slow. Save the dough

I know how slow EDGE is, it sucks lol. The thing is I know how HTC likes to delay their phones all the time, and I really haven't seen a solid release for the US. I have seen Q2, but since they delay their phones so much you can never tell.
Edge won't work in part's of America either. The Diamond that is out currently is tri-band GSM and doesn't have the 850 mhz which is what at least part of America works on. It's possible, depending on where you live, that even the edge won't work for you.
You really need to wait for the American version to come out.
See this link for the bands.

The specs on this site state that is has 850mhz band which is not correct. According to the detailed specs thread on the Diamond fourm it says the phone has a GSM band 1900. I went to www.gsmworld.com to look at the network for AT&T (1900mhz band only) and it covers the major cities and surrounding areas (almost exact same coverage map as 850mhz band) unless your in the friggin mountains.
Hello all-
I just got in my Diamond today and after working on it about an hour, I still can only get Edge (and very small reception and SSLLOOWW data). I currently have a tilt with a flashed ROM running 6.1 and got perfect 3G reception from it here at my desk. I use At&t here. Could the lack of the 850 band be my issue. Please give me some clues or point me to a tutorial to get everything set up to par for my Diamond. I've already searched this whole forum.
Thanks a lot!
Oh dear here we go again....if you had done a search you would have saved yourself so much hassle.
The Diamond you have wont support 3G on AT&T because its missing a £G attenna...even though your settings will show that it can support the band for AT&T 3G but in reality you CANNOT get 3G access with the Diamonds that are out at the moment.
Only way your going to be able to get 3G in America is by waiting for the proper American version of the phone...as to when its out...could be july/August.
Well...Thats the bad part of me that gets way too excited. I'm going to try to return it. I'm sure my fiance that im marrying in 3 weeks will love to hear the news of my lack of research. Thanks!
LOL its ok...its just been explained a few times on here that the Diamonds that are on the market arent really suitable for the American 3G market...your just gonna have to wait a bit for the American version.
For what i's worth - thanks for your time with a stupid question.

No problems buddy, its ok...thats what we are here for...to help each other out.
Apologies if i was a bit abrupt in my first post...been a long day
no 3g
for what it is worth, i have the same issue with no 3g but i have edge and so far find it fine for what i need it for. For others, the added speed that you get may be worth it. I love my Diamond otherwise, despite the battery. I will however get the usa version when it comes out, mainly for reception purposes since i feel the lack of 850 band lessens the reception a little... But so far I love it. Btw i have the ME rom which is fast and smooth and have no issues so far other than i cant hide the SIM contacts even with the tweak.
Alright just saw this on Engadget, Telus will be releasing the phone this summer with a 449.99 no contract cost, I think that equates to like 470 American? Anyways here is the link!
http://www.telusmobility.com/on/pcs/handset_htc_p3100.shtml
EVDO capable!
looks like the taiwan version HTC P3702 Victor.
same hardware T-Mobile will use for it's Compact IV i think.
technically the devices are identical
I am almost 100% sure the image is just some stock photo Telus took. I don't even think it is a diamond. Just something to put up there for now.
i work at telus and have been waiting for this news since i first heard of the diamond. i guess this timing is supposed to counter the iphone release in canada july 11. they are not giving us any details, would not even confirm if it has gps. it seems hard to say as this is diffeerent than the gsm version of this handset. i can't wait to get my hands on one..... im torn on if i should give up my p4000 (titan) for this when it comes out

Currently, it says it'll have WIFI, Rev.A, and Telus Navigator, etc.
Those are the features that Vogue users on Telus have been fighting for so this could be a better alternative to waiting for a firmware upgrade... especially given the across-the-board improvements.
I'll bet that GPS is locked to Telus Navigator only... but at least it'll be active and I'm sure someone will free it before long.
Is there anyone here that lives in Southern California and owns a Touch Diamond? How is the reception? I did a search but nothing turned up except someone who said he "heard" california gets good reception. I'm planning to get a Diamond next week so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Sorry, cant give a specific answer but I've used the phone on AT&T in the Puget Sound area and in Manhatten without problem either indoors or out. No 3G of course, but 3 or 4 bars in most places. Check out the maps on this site to see how well your carrier's various frequencies cover SoCal.

Did you download the last radio version?
It makes this phone quadruband for voice and GPRS-EDGE
Philippe
Using mine in Oxnard... with the 05 radio, I get reception on par with my Q9h and better than my ELFin, TYTNII, Dash, Treo 750, and Advantage.
No 3g obviously, but EDGE works fine (actually, I prefer EDGE as it is better for my battery life and I don't "surf" with my phone).
My guess is that there is a NAM HSDPA radio in there and it is just a matter of time for it to be unlocked... or at least one can hope. =)
I live in Huntington Beach CA and own the Diamond. I am with T-Mobile and have no reception problems with the diamond.
you guys that bought your diamond(and live in the us), where did you buy it? can you give me a link? i found this one but i dont know if i should trust it: http://www.htcphonestore.com/product.asp?itemMDL=HTC_DIAMOND
edit: i use t-mobile and therefore dont use 3g so that doesnt matter to me.
thanks.
05 radio working great in San Jose, CA. bought mine from expansys usa
Diamond user in Garden Grove/Anaheim area. Reception is GREAT with .05 radio. Heck, my quadband Samsung U600 gets worse signal than my diamond (with .05 radio) when I'm at work (in santa ana).
Got mine from Amazon. Also... I am on AT&T.

Ditto in Pasadena,CA. Works great on EDGE. Radio 1.00.25.05
Any of you guys bought the unbranded Diamond that are using it in Canada? (Rogers, Fido) ? Are you able to take advantage fo the 3G network or no? Trying to figure out if I should wait for a possible North American release (not the Telus Diamond) or if it really matters at all. (North American one might have more ram??)
Thanks!
Anyone? :|
I'm on Rogers. Got my diamond last week and upgraded with the Diamond Project V2 ROM for quad-band. Don't have a data plan (too expensive), and only use wifi, but the phone has shown a G on the status bar once in awhile. Don't know if that means it's available....
I've had a diamond on Rogers for about 6 weeks now. No 3G, even with the newest ROM's. It does get EDGE (E) in most places in Toronto, and GPRS(G) elsewhere.
DT
Hmm ok, not that I use 3G much (I usually disable it for battery reasons), but maybe I shall awhile just to see what happens. I'd like the option of 3G.
Thanks guys!~
