I finally got WM6.1 installed and ran into a little issue. I tried to customize the device with my old ringtones from WM6.0.
The issue is that they do not show up in the Incoming Calls area of the ringtone section. I moved them into various FOLDERS hoping that WM6.1 would see them but this didn't work. I did notice that the ringtones were showing up in the area for RECEIVED TEXT MESSAGES and other types of the sound notifications.
How can I get the ringtones that were working perfectly fine on WM6.0 to work on the latest WM6.1?
Thanks!
Did you try putting them in the "Rings" folder. That worked for me.
I have tried the following FOLDERS without any luck:
/dev/My Documents/
/dev/My Documents/Ringtones
/dev/storage card/My Documents/
/dev/storage card/My Documents/Ringtones
/dev/Windows/Rings/
Seven ringtones (mp3) that worked perfectly on W6.0 are no longer visible as choices for the "Phone: Incoming Call" area. The only options are two WAV files I use for messages being received. However, those mp3 ringtones are visible and are options under all of the send/receive notification tone menus.
I don't get why I can't choose them as phone-call ringtones...
Any thoughts?
mine is doing the same. However, my song still rings even though it does not show being the ringer selected.
/dev/Windows/Rings/
That's where I have mine.
I had the same problem and the only solution that I found was from which ever folder you music is in just press and hold down on the song, and set as ring tone. Now your phone will ring with that song, but if you go in settings/sounds/notifications it still wont come up.

I assume you are on an AT&T Tilt? If so, I had the same problem as well. It turns out that it has something to do with the file size. There's some limit ~400k for the file for it to show on your notification lists for ringtone.
I had to chop off the end of my song, and get it to 300k and then it showed/worked just fine. I'm sure this will get fixed soon.
There's a cab that enables this function. You install it and voila all your mp3's can be set as ringtones. As soon as i find the link again Ill post it. I used it and it works great.
The Fix:
Install the .cab then move the desired MP3 File to Device\My Documents\My Ringtones and you should be able to see them in your Sounds & Notifications settings program.
Source: MikeFordMustang.com, Tiltmobility.com
Okay so I may not post it since someone beat me to it. LOL
http://mikefordmustang.com/downloads/NoRingtoneLimit.cab
I've got all mine on the root of the storage card and it works just fine - can have any size ring-tone you want...
Yo what a difference a .cab can make. I was racking my brain trying to figure out the solution to this issue. I was trying to convert .mp3 to .wma, I was downgrading the audio quality of my songs trying to get their filesize down, all with no positive results. Then I find this thread install the .cab and presto it works. To the creator and posters of this fix THANK YOU!!!!!!! You saved me from a downgrade back to 6.0. :-D
Hi,
I transferred the cab file to my xda ii, has a wm6.1 rom and it just seemed to open an html internet page with the commands in.
I see my ringtones now BUT i can't find ringtones for text.
Basically I want set my own ringtone for incoming calls and then set a differnt one for my incoming sms texts... but it just shows default when I go to look in incoming sms...
If that makes sense can someone help?
I should also mention when i extract the file it is .xml - i tried chaning the file ext to .exe or .cab but no luck... im probably being stupid but all help is appreciated,
thank you
wow, thank you
WM 6.1 registry edit for ringtone file size
I upgraded from WM 6.0 to 6.1 and now my custom ring tones that are over 500Kb do not show up in the pull down menu in order to select them for contacts. This fix is to edit the registry.
- Go into HKEY_Current User > ControlPanel > Sounds
- Delete the key of FileSizeLimit
- Done, You should now be able to set any MP3 as your ringtone.
Alan
Thanks for that .cab it was driving me insane as well not being able to have any of my old ringtones that I used for 6.0 work in 6.1 Thanks a ton!!
Thank you!!! This is just what I was looking for.
Happy Holidays!
I did not want to start a new thread for this secondary issue. I loved when my Nokia bar phone made that BEEP sound with vibration. I could hear it from a distance as it was so distinct even at low volume.
This new Windows based phones suck when it comes to rings and how they sound.
Does anyone have a very distinct beep / similar ring tone that is heard well from Tilt's loudspeakers? That would be appreciated.
New registry keys display list of ringtones.
This is my first post to these fantastic forums. I think I finally found something that merits a post.
Note: I am using WM6.1 AT&T build for Blackjack II. This may not apply here if you use a custom ROM, in which case the chefs may have already remove these keys. If not, here's how you get to see your ringtones, etc. from the Settings/Sounds menus.
In WM6.1 the registry key,
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds
have 2 new keys:
AllSounds
Ringtones
Each of these keys is a collection of sound files, obviously the ones shipped with the original rom. Use a registry editor to delete both keys. The time to display the list of sounds will increase if you have many sound files.
If you have a set of custom tones, you could put this list into the registry instead and the list will display much faster.
I hope this saves someone some time and frustration.

Can you tell me how to install the NoRingtoneLimit.cab to my phone. This is new to me thk u.

Fixing Ringtones
I had this problem and worked out how to fix it.
Look at the following Reg Key (change midifile to mp3file for mp3 issues)
Delete any EventSoundHandlers already in place and add this Key.
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\midifile\Shellex\EventSoundHandlers\{245F94CF-DD9C-46F9-B4C8-D2B14A877893}]
@="XME EventSound Player"

Hi
I just downloadet the programm "SMS reports eraser" from here: http://www.jgui.net/black/smsreportseraser/index.html
The problem is, that option "no sound" doesn't function on my diamond. I hate this sound on sms-delivery-reports ;-)
Can anybody help?
Use Schaps Advance Config instead

Could you export and send me the registry of HTC Diamond? I will fix.
For now, you can just manually delete two sound files SMSREPORT... wav from root Windows directory.

I'm not sure, but the following:
"Use Schaps Advance Config instead

does not make, what my small apps does.

Hi
There are no souch soundfiles in windows root directory...
I think the problem is, that delivery-reports have the caracter of a normal sms. And because of that, the sound appears. Erasing the corresponding soundfile may not be the solution because then, normal sms will also play no sound.
I try to export the registry this evening. If anybody else could do this, I would be very happy
Regards
if you instralled from my original setup file: exe or cab (directly from my above link web page)
and if you still hear the special sound prior to the default notification, you use for notify about new sms...
that means, absolutely, you have two SMSREPORTERASER1.wav and SMSREPORTERASER2.wav files in Windows directory.
because this soud file is listen. and because my setup file installed/copied these files there.
probably you have locked the view of some files inside \windows folder.
don't afraid to delete these sound files, because it does not use as the default notification about new sms or something others. these files are used by my program only.

No my mistake, in Advanced Config you can only turn sms notifications/reports off.
Sorry
Doesn't work for me too.
I have an WM6.1 ROM.
Normal SMS sound is the same has delivery report. No changes.
Did two soft reset... And it's the same.
Cheers
Working Ok on my Wizard, sound and delivery report to read
Installed in the SD Card
ps: Since this is generic app, I think that should be in the Development area ?
no, I think these theme should be in this thread ;-)
I hope the developer finds a solution soon, because this sound of sms-delivery is really annoying...
But did you noticed any changes or is the same sound has before?
In my case, i stayed with the same sound has before... Nothing changed...:S
Cheers
The only sound that you may activate or not, is the Woman/Man annouce, the other sound is the common sound of an SMS arriving, that probably you may change in Sounds and Notifications
I've mentioned that this app should be moved to Development area, since it is aplicable to any other devices

No. The other sound should be "No sound" and it's not working... That is what i was saying.

Yesterday i've uninstalled the aplication, but today when i wake up it said "Cannot run windows/smsreporteraser.exe"
When i installed it i configured to erase all reports at 6 a.m..
Now i've changed the clock to 5.59a.m but there was no message.
Hope it was only once...
Cheers
EDIT: Tried again with thw woman sound. Now it's playng the woman sound and then plays normal sms sound...:S

I should clearer explain how this program works.
It tries to recognize, if the received SMS message is the delivery report.
If it is a report, it will play own sound (woman's, or man's, or nothing), and then allows system to process default Windows Mobile "new text message" notification. This one what you set in system's default Settings Notification dialog. There's no common between default system's notification and my program. My program just hold default notification (if this is a report message) for the time of own process, and then release it in normal way. Also, it set the timer to run deleting of all reports, in the specified moment in the future. If this moment will become, it will delete all reports in Inbox. This moment is calculated from the last received and recognized report message.
FOr example, you sent one SMS at 13:45 and then received report at 13:46. If you set the deleting time in my program to "2 hours" you can expect the report will disappear at 15:46.
But, if in the meantime, you sent some other SMS message, and got next delivery report, for example at 15:10, you should expect both reports will disappear at 17:10.
I think (and tested) this idea, these rules, are "logical", and very usuful for daily activities.
It's enough conveniently way to control, what your message was delivered, and what not.
IF you want to hear woman's or man's voice notification, it will play before the system's notification, but ONLY if: you set ring sound, you set "new text message" sound, and you set volume greater than zero. This prevents from hearing the sound when you use "silence" profile, vibrate only, or something like this. I've decided to include such rules, because different devices organize and use "profiles" in different ways, if any at all: most Smartphones use profiles, but not all touch-screen devices use. So my program checks the volume of notification sounds and ring sounds, to be sure you will not hear anything when you in the dark cinema. If you have better idea how to prevent the hearing in various types of mobile devices, please share.
So, if you use 6a.m. time for deleting, and even if you will uninstall this program, the timer will run up to this moment, and try to execute = delete reports. Only once.
There is no way to break the timer. What for?
Alternatively you can only use some special program, where you can review all your system's timers of notifications, and delete SMSREPORTSERASER manually.
... still awaiting for someone who send me HTC DIamond registry exported copy.
What I have to review inside, to fix sounds problem in this device.
I thought that we could have only your sound when receiving a delivery report.
When i receive a delivery report i ear both sounds (male/female) and normal sound, one after the other, and thought that was a bug.
Thanks anyway
Cheers
do you think, I should add option "not play the default sound notification" in case of delivery report received?
Yes! I think think that should be a good modification to the program.
Also think that mutch people whould apreciate.
Please do!
Cheers

That would be perfect!
I just tried out your app, and it works very well. Cleared out yet one more problem from the Diamond!
But that last option you mention - that would fit very well imo.
I would really appreciate too....
could somebody send the registry-file to the developer of this appl.? Unfortunately I am to dumb to do this :-(
ok. I added the option "don't play default notification".
if you use such option, the systme's popup notification or sounds will not in use when new delivery report will arrive.
please redownload the new setup file, re-install, and - don't forget - make a soft-reset.
Hiya ladies & gentlemen,
Ok, yesterday I installed with WM5 Fix .cab and converted my tones into .wav. Now my phone rings within or JUST after the first ring on the calling phone. But my problem is the playback sounds slightly jerky and not fluent. Any ideas?
For FIX look here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=258109
Just install the .cab from the first post and ignore the rest and convert tones to .wav. I use mediacoder available free.
Works 100%
yup works like a charm. I do notice it first "stuter" about the first .5 of a second though (like the program loading it) but after that plays fine.
I wonder if this drains battery or not as in the post it says leave the program dormant in the background or something like that.
I'm just happy doesn't have to wait 3 rings anymore before the phone actually makes a sound
not too sure if it drains battery but it does work and i rather not miss those phone calls.
I've noticed the slight jutter in the first second also. I tried converting my .wav into a smaller file which helped but even the smallest of files it still exists.
tested and working, but sound isn't fluid.
i use this on all roms i have flashed
yes it does stutter for 0.5 of a second
but then you don't miss anymore calls
What happens if you convert your ringtone to .wma ? Or can this tweak only be used with.wav files ?
i belive wma will work the same as a wav.....
i am sure i read that on here
yes, its quite specific about wav. it must be wav. but who knows? its worth a try.
I don't need the .wav files in the .cab in this thread. I only need to know how to fix the delay.
Are the registry changes in the .cab the same as the ones available in, for example, Diamond Tweak or this registry tweak? If so: it doesn't work, only with default WM dialer and I hate that thing. Or rather: I like my slide-to-answer TF3D dialer
hey all~
so this is my first post here, hope this is in the right thread (if not i apologize and ask the admins to plz move it?)
anyhows, i has a tytn2 (at&t tilt of course) its all upto date and all. i was wondering....i know i can set custom ring tones for contacts for when they call, is there any way (free way) to set custom tones for when somebody texts?
i had my old phone (motorolla rokr z6) set to do that and would like to have my new phone set that way too but i can't find how to or if its even possible anywhere....
thanks all

Ok, I think I got two questions out of that test. J/K
1. Edit: Sorry about that. I didn't read properly.
2. To assign notification sounds. Start>Settings>Personal>Sounds&Notifications>Notifications. Open the Event: drop down, find the event, Open the Ring tone: select the sound, turn on Play sound, finished.
Notification sounds reside in the \Windows\ root folder of the device. I like to put ring tones into the \Windows\Rings\ folder. They work in other folders but I find the Rings folder neater than the root for example and thats what the Rings folder is meant for anyway.
Hope that works for you.
U cant assign different ringtones for text messages to contacts. For that u will probably need some 3rd party application.
hey all~
hurm, okay well if i can't then does anyone know of any 3rd party app that can do it? i know pcm can NOT do it for text's (but they can for calls) . . .
thanks for the help guys and gals
~j
try mortring. you can personalize rings for calls and sms according to individual or category.
although it's been slightly buggy since i upgraded to 6.1, it still does the job well enough.
somynex~
thanks ill google it right now
~j
Try photo contacts. You can assign text tones to individuals on it
hey all~
so igrabed mortringand installedit buthad no luck with it working :-( so i guess ill look into that other suggested program....
like i said it's not a big deal, just something i would likes (it shouldn't surprise anyone as my screen name should imply i'm a linux guy [ubuntu is a linux distro.] and i love everythiing tweaked as much as possible lol)
~j
sorry to hear that mortring didn't work. in WM6 and before it seems to intercept the call and then change the ring.
But in WM6.1 it seems to have to change the ringtone for each contact/category according to the ring i set it to, which can take a long time. the first time after i set the rings, thought my phone froze up. but actually it was just taking its time setting the rings for each contact (and takes a long time when one has a lot of contacts/categories).
anyway after the first couple days of freezes, it seems to work fine now and hasn't froze up on me since.
somynex~
maybe i'll give it another go then....i tried with my brothers contact info. changed his txt tone then had him txt me....maybe i needed to let it sit for longer to 'finish the change' . . .
thanks for the extra info

No problem mate.
Here's a post of mine from almost 4 years ago that you can use with Mortring (free) to make custom notifications for your contacts.
Okay I figured out how to create a custom notification/ringer.
1: go to http://public.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php
And type in what you'd like for the notification or ring to say and then
download it after picking a voice. (keep in mind sometimes you have to purposely
misspell certain word to get them to be pronounced correctly. For example for DJ
I had to spell it as d j).
2: rename that file you downloaded into something you'd like.
3: move that .wav file to your devices /windows directory.
4: go to start - settings - sounds & notifications - notifications (select the
event you'd like to change the ring for and select the respectable audio file).
If using Mortring in step 4 assign that .wav for your contact(s).
dj~
wow thanks, from 4 years ago...kewl that u looked it up fo rme i appreciate it and will be off to create
~j
Of course.. then there's always Electricpocket Ringo. It lets u assign ringtones and sms tones individually, or to groups. The best I've used so far.

Free? I tried Ringo over a year ago and it slowed down my phone a lot.
hey all~
i got mortRing working! seems pretty good, works for sure. one thing though...it seems that everytime i get a text from someone whos got a personalized tone, that wmp opens to try to play the wav file (and go figure, wav=windows audio video...wmp says it can't play wavs lol)
i think i may have fixedn it with a registry tweak, have to wait till someone with a custom tone texts me back lol
~j
hey all~
ok so this question is probably for those who have or have used mortRing....everytime a custom notification comes my media player opens :s
i went in the registry and undid the default wmp handling of wav files (as the ringtones...err text tones lol that mortRing recognizes are wav's) but then it opened a dialouge saying it didn't know how to handle the wav file (nvm it played lol) ii changed the default to mort player but it still opens whenever one of the custom contacts text me....at least mort closes quicker then wmp...but still would be nice to get it to stop...
so any ideas? a registry hack (i'm comforatable doing that, even though im a linux guy i work on peoples win-slows computers....a LOT) anything?
thanks
~j
I have an older version of Mortring that doesn't have that problem.
DJ~
do you happen to know what version number you have? thanks

Hi all, i have recently got an mp3 trimming program i found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4841262#post4841262 which works fine on the TD2, and i have chopped up a few mp3 tracks and put them in the ringtone folder(main memory) on my device. Now i can select one of these to use as my ringtone fine using the notifications tab in sounds but i cant seem to set a mp3 i have trimmed as an incoming text message alert. Does anyone know if this is possible and if so how?
no it is not possible, you have to put your file in wma format into windows folder
edit: sorry my mistake, mp3 works in wm6.5
I set one of my trimmed mp3s as my incoming text and mms alert. I renamed as "Alert-tonename" and dropped in into my windows folder. I also put into my ringtones folder for good measure so I don't know if you need to do both. But, that is how I got one of my trimmed mp3s available as a message alert. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info guys ill take a look now
Hmm if i try and move the file on my pc via sync for some reason it does not show the windows folder i need to move it to, and i have tried several things on the device itself i.e. touching the mp3 file till i get the pop up menu, pressing cut then going to the windows folder holding the screen again but i have no option to paste :S sorry if its a simple solution i just cant seem to work it out.
Many thanks guyd i have sussed it ou, im well happy thanks
P.S. if anyone else is unsure feel free to ask here or message me and ill do my best to explain.
Hi Shambolicuk, I'd be grateful if you could explain to me how you did it.
I copied them in My Ringtones and they automatically appeared in the ringtone list
Changing ringtone and alerts to Mp3's or Wav's
This is old but I wonder if there are any fossil TD2's that are still using TD2's. Change the login sound by setting "HTC-tonename" ? Cant delete the original HTC-Quietly...wav any ideas??
