Okey so ive had my diamond for 3 weeks and have had this issue. The device worked fine for 2 weeks except for this problem that it keeps dropping the connection and just says "no service" but when i disable and re-enable the phone radio i get full signal. However one time the device froze and i had to soft reset. After which it said the "sim card is missing, you can make emergency calls if your service provider supports it" when the sim card was in the phone. I tried resets and cleaning the sim all to no avail. So after not being able to find anyone else with this problem i figured it must be my old 2g sim that had been causing the problems so i went and purchased a new 3g sim from my service provider (mobilezone [switzerland]) and inserted it into the device. Everything starts working again and i figure the problem is fixed. However the phone continues to drop the signal again and again over the next few days and finally kills the sim card again, and displays the same "sim missing..." error. So i have now taken it back to the retailer and they say there seems to be no issue with the device as the technichen inserts a new sim and everything works fine. The thing is that the sim cards are completely broken. They no longer work in any device!!! But it took 2 weeks the first time and 3 days the second, so the technicians agreed to test the device for a couple days, im just sure its gna work fine for that amount of time but screw up again after when i use it again. Can anyone provide any insight into this? I speculate that its perhaps an issue with my service provider since they do not have their own network but use orange (switzerland) with their custom network settings, and when configuring the device the WM6 connection wizard only has 3 options and my provider is not listed, so i use the orange config settings, which i thought may be slightly different and cause problems. Ideas?!?!?
Thanks in advance.
Sam

If it helps, I had to have a new sim to use it in my new phone (not the diamond, a nokia) because it didn't work properly, as it was a relatively old sim.
Hi did you ever get your sim problem sorted, have been experiencing same,
except my sim still work on other phones?

I have an orange sim wich does not work in the phone. It gives me the same error as when i don't have a signal.
Also, when i try a vodafone sim the same happens after a day or two and i need to reset my phone.
I have tried a couple roms and radio but nothing seems to work.
gps, bluetooth and wifi work normally
I haven't installed anything or dropped / hit / sat on the phone. It has worked perfectly since a bought it (almost a year).
Any other suggestions to fix it by installing software? I had only six months of waranty on it.
Thank you for your time
sounds more like a period defect simcard slot to me
Forgot to add that after a hard reset it correctly finds my provider
My Nexus was on 5.0.41, all working sweet, then it stopped "finding" the network. No update, flashing or anything was done prior to the problem.
I tried a SIM from another provider, but still - the "No Service" is written on screen, and when I try to search for networks, it says "Error searching for networks".
I then tried the following ideas (nothing helped):
- Reflashed the Radio image.
- downgraded the Radio image.
- Upgraded it again.
- Flashed the Stock ROM (unrooted and rooted).
- Flashed CM5053.
All was done with wipes as needed.
Any suggestions will be more than welcomed!
Can the device just get bricked like that? with no reason?
It sometimes identifies the SIM's provider (Orange for example) but always with No Service.
It sounds like your SIM card slot isn't holding the card in tight enough to make full contact... try putting a business card, cut down to size, between the SIM and the phone's frame (note, not the contacts side, but the back side) to force the SIM down onto the reader tighter.
If that does nothing, not sure what to tell you?
it didn't help
I'm Italian and I have the same your problem .. I only work in 2G GSM'...ve tried to see if you do so?
I opened another tread here Forum
You need a new SIM.
I just had this problem on Friday. The SIM some how falls of the network and your provider network will not allow it to reconnect.
I can't remember, but if I am right Orange is owned/owns by T-Mobile. Hence they have the same network.
The puzzling part about this is why it happens. This is the second SIM I have gone through with my N1, I also had one go with my G1, my sister bought that G1 and the SIM went out again. My mom bought her G1 same day as me and hers has died once. My friend has a MT3G and his has died two times now. I find this extremely annoying.
I tried every suggestion on the internet for repairing or troubleshooting a SIM. It is a waste of time. Well, everything short of dropping it in isoproply alcohol to clean the contact.
I tried a 2G and a 3G SIM on mine, and had the same result, so my problem is different.
My device just doesn't register with the network, no matter what provider or SIM generation I choose.
Can I ask for a RMA if I unlocked the bootloader?
I do not know you definitely do not pass it under warranty
Ryan then you say you clean the contacts of the nexus or the sim with isopropyl
Mine is now doing that as well and so far everything that I tried isn't fixing it. I get it to connect briefly with edge and then nothing. I am going to try a new sim tonight after work and see if that helps, otherwise unsure of what to do after that...anybody got any answers or suggestions?
I've been suffering from this... have an RMA coming but I got mine to work. Make sure you also have CDMA preferred on there or whatever the default is. If it says unknown you have to reboot the radio somehow. I pulled my battery, waited 5-10 seconds. Then i went and checked airplane mode on and off. Then i checked the service menu again. I can't remember if i had to pull the battery another time but it came back from "unknown" to cdma preferred. You can also try turning the radio on and off via the service menu. Finally select your radio bands for your region by pressing the menu button under phone information again in the service menu and select radio bands. I'm not sure if automatic is a good or bad idea but it couldn't hurt testing it if you still have some issues even after selecting your region specific bands. After this you should be able to maybe search and register or you may need to turn the radio on and off again via airplane or the service menu. I played around with it alot to get it running again.
Also I'm tmobile usa using the one for t-mobile bands. I'm not sure if CDMA preferred is a world wide setting or if its gsm or something else.. but the bands are specific to your region definitely.
I am working on a friend's HD7 locked to US TMO running stock US TMO Phone 7 ROM. A few days ago it suddenly started getting "Invalid SIM message". It is out of warranty coverage.
Swapping out for a known good TMO SIM it still gets the Invalid SIM message and his SIM works fine in another device so it doesn't appear to be SIM related.
I performed a hard reset on the device but it still gets Invalid SIM so it doesn't appear to be software related.
Suspecting hardware, I did a lot of searching of xda-developers and google for possible solutions.
I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127798 so per that thread I took the device apart and cleaned then reseated the SIM slot connection to the main board. It still gives Invalid SIM error.
I found references elsewhere that it might be due to the SIM being somewhat loose in the SIM slot so I shimmed it with a piece of paper, yet I still get Invalid SIM.
I'm not sure what direction to go from here. Has anyone ran into this and been able to fix it successfully?
A couple hours after posting the above, I noticed that the error message was gone and the device was connected successfully to the TMO network. I have no clue why. Hopefully the issue doesn't happen again.
This exact same issue happened with my T-Mo HD7 too.
I'm in Australia, and bought the phone off eBay brand new with an unlock code. I used to be with three (a dodgy network provider), and got a couple of new sims, with no avail. With a reboot though, the message would be gone.
Since then, I have changed network providers and reset the phone a couple of times, to find that I no longer have the issue at all (knock on wood).
Hope your problem is solved.
Dean
It seems to be. My friend hasn't had the error message since. Still, I wish I had a better grip on what caused it and what fixed it - makes me worry that it will happen again.
Hi chaps, I have tried searching across the internet with no luck, here's the deal.
I bought this p1000 galaxy tab some days ago from a guy on a forum. tried it thoroughly before paying, inserted my phone SIM, got a phone call, sms, 3G internet, wifi, all working flawless. I used it for some days wi-fi only waiting for my new tablet SIM to be ready.
Monday, I receive the SIM but it still had to be activated. I just kept it in the tablet waiting for it to be OK. Zero problems, just the usual "no service" message like you would expect from a sim that's yet to activate
This morning I finally get the SIM activated, but as soon as I try sending a text or something, the tablet just shuts down. After that, no way trying to boot it up again: it reaches the Samsung logo, then bye bye. If you remove the SIM from the tray it magically comes back to life.
I already tried the usual stuff, like hard resetting and like, cleaning the SIM or something. I also tried with another carrier sim and I get the same behavior. I'm starting to believe that there is some hardware fault with the SIM reader, but I thought I'd try to get some hints from here before calling Sammy's assistance. Also the weirdest part is that it worked some days ago!
If anyone has any idea/experience to share, I'd love to hear from you mates. thanks in advance!
(oh and btw I know how to hit a thanks button)
I'll update the post with further intel, maybe it will help someone down the road.
The tablet does not like freshly activated SIMs. I know it sounds crazy but that's where we are at. We have tried like 4 different SIM cards from different operators, all work flawlessly; The SIM card of the above NOW works flawlessly as well, it just needed a couple days to settle down. I have no idea if this is a software bug, a hardware fault or some strange network settings from my carrier, but the problem seems to be solved for now. Luckily i didn't send it in for repairs!
For some reason my LG Optimus 2x from Wind Mobile refuses to even look for a network. I go to settings and select manual for network, and it tries to look for half a second and then I get "error searching for networks" It's done this before, and usually just rebooting the phone would solve the problem. This time it had not solved the problem, my tried 3 different roms with no luck. I even took the sim card out and put into a my old Nokia, the phone was able to roam on the wind network and retrieve messages. I'm not really sure what the problem is anymore. I want to throw the phone against the wall, it's been a buggy piece of junk from the day I got it.
EDIT: It seems this is a Sim issue of some kind, I don't know if it's the Sim card or the Sim reader on the phone. It behaves the exact same way, regardless if there is a Sim card in it or not.
Final Edit: It was the Sim Card.
